Use the official Protean NPS CRA service that matches your situation. A pending application is checked with either the CRA-FC acknowledgement number or the 17-digit POP-SP receipt number; a PRAN that has already been allotted is checked by signing in to the subscriber portal and opening your account details or statements. PRAN-card dispatch and change-request status have separate checks.
Choose the status check that matches your question
NPS status checks are not one universal search. The CRA separates application processing, registration or contribution confirmation, PRAN-card dispatch, access to an active account, and submitted change requests. Start by identifying the document or event you are checking, then use the identifier printed on the related receipt.

The labels and page locations can change. Use the current Protean NPS CRA website rather than an old bookmark or a page copied by an unofficial helper. The CRA has announced that its informational website moved from its older CRA domain to the Protean domain, so verify that you are on the live official destination before entering any personal information.

How to check a pending PRAN application
If your PRAN has not yet been allotted, keep the submission receipt beside you. The number you need depends on how you are tracking the submission.

1. Open the current official CRA tracker
- Go to the current Protean NPS CRA homepage.
- Open the service labelled PRAN Application Status if you are checking the application submitted through a CRA-FC.
- Choose Registration and Contribution Status if your question concerns a registration or contribution submitted through a POP-SP.
- Choose Track PRAN Card Status only when the PRAN has been generated and you are checking card dispatch.
Do not substitute one tracker for another. Each service validates a different record and therefore asks for a different reference number.
2. Use the CRA-FC acknowledgement number for application status
For the application-status route, enter the acknowledgement number allotted by the CRA-FC when the application form was submitted. Copy it exactly, including every digit, and follow the page’s verification instructions. The acknowledgement number is not the same as the receipt number issued by a POP-SP.
The official subscriber FAQ describes this distinction in these terms: “Subscriber can check the status of his/ her PRAN application by 17 digit receipt number provided by POP-SP or the acknowledgement number allotted by CRA-FC at the time of submission of application forms by POP-SP.” In practice, select the tracker that corresponds to the document in your possession rather than trying random numbers in multiple forms.
3. Use the 17-digit POP-SP receipt number for registration or contribution tracking
If the POP-SP gave you a 17-digit receipt number, select Registration and Contribution Status and enter that number. This route is for the registration or contribution record associated with the receipt; it is not a replacement for the CRA-FC acknowledgement-number route when you are specifically asking about a PRAN application.

Check the receipt for transposed digits before submitting. If the tracker rejects the number, compare the number with the original receipt and confirm that you selected the POP-SP service. Keep a clear scan or photograph of the receipt for any follow-up.
4. Check PRAN-card dispatch separately
A PRAN-generation result and card delivery are separate events. After allotment, open Track PRAN Card Status when your question is whether the physical kit has been dispatched. Use the details requested by that tracker and save the result for your records.
5. Watch the registered contact details
The CRA says it sends an email and SMS to the registered contact details when the PRAN is generated and sends an alert when the PRAN kit is dispatched. Check the inbox, spam or junk folder, and the mobile number you supplied on the form. An alert is useful, but you can still use the official trackers when you need to verify the record yourself.
There is no single guaranteed processing time
The cited CRA FAQ does not establish one universal current turnaround for every application route or issue type. Processing can depend on the submission channel and whether the record requires correction. Treat any fixed number of days quoted by an unofficial website as unverified; use the tracker and registered-contact alerts instead.

How to check an allotted PRAN and NPS account
Once the PRAN has been generated, stop using the pending-application form to inspect your balance or transactions. Use the subscriber portal.
1. Reach the subscriber login from the official CRA homepage
- Open the current official Protean NPS CRA homepage directly or through a trusted bookmark you have recently verified.
- Select the subscriber login option.
- Enter the user ID and I-PIN supplied by the CRA.
- Complete any on-screen verification and sign in.
Never enter your PRAN, I-PIN, one-time password, or date of birth into a link sent by an unknown person. If a page address or design looks different from the official CRA site, close it and navigate from the verified homepage.
2. Review account information
After signing in, open the account-information or profile area offered by the portal. Confirm the details relevant to your question, such as whether the PRAN is present in the account and whether the displayed contact information is current. The exact menu wording may change as the CRA portal is updated.

3. Open a Statement of Holding or Statement of Transactions
Use a Statement of Holding when you need a record of your NPS holdings. Use a Statement of Transactions when you need activity over a period. The CRA also describes an ad hoc transaction-statement request and access to an annual statement. Choose the statement type that answers your question instead of assuming that a balance screen contains the full transaction history.

- Holding question: open the Statement of Holding.
- Contribution or activity question: open the Statement of Transactions and select the relevant period if the portal offers a date range.
- Year-end record: use the annual statement option described by the CRA.
- One-off documentation: use the ad hoc statement request option when you need a statement outside the regular annual cycle.
Download or securely save the statement if you need to reconcile it with payroll, bank, or POP-SP records. Avoid storing it in a shared public folder because it contains personal account information.
Other ways the CRA describes for account information
The CRA contribution FAQ lists additional access paths: the NPS mobile app, an IVR request for a statement, delivery of statements to the registered email address, and account alerts. These are alternatives for obtaining information, not substitutes for the application tracker. Availability and menu wording can change, so follow the current instructions presented by the official CRA.

- Select Forgot Password.
- Choose Instant Reset I-PIN, if that option is displayed.
- Enter the requested details, which the FAQ describes as including your PRAN and date of birth.
- Select the verification method offered for your account, such as an OTP sent to the registered mobile number or registered email address.
- Complete the verification and set the new I-PIN according to the page’s rules.
- Return to the subscriber login and test the new I-PIN. Do not disclose it to anyone who offers to “check” the account for you.
If the registered mobile number or email is no longer accessible, the instant reset may not complete. Use the official support route or your associated nodal office to update the contact details rather than sending credentials through an informal channel.

How to check the status of an NPS change request
A change request—such as an account-detail update—has its own acknowledgement number and status path. It is not the same as a PRAN application number or a contribution receipt.
- Locate the acknowledgement issued when you submitted the change request.
- Use the CRA IVR and choose the status option for a submitted request.
- Enter the acknowledgement number when prompted.
- If the automated route does not resolve the question, ask a CRA call-centre executive to check the request.
The cited CRA FAQ lists 1800 2100 080 for call-centre assistance. Confirm the number and the current IVR menu on the live official CRA website before calling, because contact details and menu choices can change.
You may also approach your associated nodal office for account changes or help with a request. Keep the acknowledgement, submission date, and copies of any supporting documents available so the office can locate the record without asking you to resubmit unnecessarily.
What to do when a tracker or login does not work
The number is rejected
- Check whether you entered the CRA-FC acknowledgement number or the POP-SP’s 17-digit receipt number, as required by the selected service.
- Compare each digit with the original receipt; do not replace a missing digit with your PRAN.
- Return to the CRA homepage and confirm that you selected the matching tracker.
- If the number still fails, contact the associated CRA-FC, POP-SP, nodal office, or official call-centre route with the original receipt.
No email or SMS arrived
- Check spam, junk, blocked-sender, and filtered-message folders.
- Confirm that you are checking the mobile number and email address registered on the submission.
- Use the official tracker instead of waiting indefinitely for an alert.
- If your contact details are wrong, request an update through the official CRA or nodal-office process.
You cannot reset the I-PIN
- Confirm that the PRAN and date of birth match the CRA record.
- Try the alternate OTP destination offered by the reset page if both mobile and email options are available.
- Do not create a new registration to work around a locked or forgotten I-PIN.
- Escalate through official support if you no longer control the registered contact route.
The portal shows a different or missing menu
CRA labels and page layouts can change. Start again from the current official homepage, sign in through the subscriber option, and look for the account, holding, transaction, or statement service described there. Avoid relying on screenshots or menu paths copied from an older article.
Protect your PRAN information while checking status
- Use only the live official CRA site, the official mobile app, or the official support channels.
- Keep your PRAN, acknowledgement numbers, and receipts private. Share them only with the CRA, your authorised POP-SP, CRA-FC, nodal office, or another official channel when necessary.
- Never post your PRAN, I-PIN, password, OTP, date of birth, or statement in comments, social-media replies, or public forums.
- Type the official site address yourself or use a verified bookmark instead of clicking an unexpected login link.
- Log out after viewing statements, especially on a shared computer, and close downloaded files when they are no longer needed.
A practical record-keeping checklist
Before contacting support, assemble the information that identifies the exact workflow:
- The CRA-FC acknowledgement number, if you are checking an application.
- The POP-SP 17-digit receipt number, if you are checking registration or contribution submission.
- The PRAN, if it has already been allotted and you are using the subscriber portal or I-PIN reset.
- The PRAN-card tracking details, if the question concerns dispatch.
- The change-request acknowledgement number, if you are checking an account update.
- The registered mobile number and email address, plus the date and location of submission.
- A copy of the receipt, acknowledgement, or statement, with sensitive data stored securely.
Providing the correct identifier at the first contact reduces the chance that a support agent sends you to the wrong tracker or asks you to repeat a completed submission.
Quick decision guide
- Have you not received a PRAN yet? Use the application tracker with the CRA-FC acknowledgement number, or the registration/contribution tracker with the POP-SP’s 17-digit receipt number.
- Has the PRAN been allotted but the card has not arrived? Use the separate PRAN-card tracker and monitor the registered SMS and email alerts.
- Do you want holdings, contributions, or account activity? Sign in with the CRA-supplied user ID and I-PIN, then open the Statement of Holding or Statement of Transactions.
- Did you forget the I-PIN? Use Forgot Password, then Instant Reset I-PIN, and complete the offered OTP verification.
- Did you submit an account change? Use its acknowledgement number through the CRA IVR status option or official call-centre support.
These paths keep each status question tied to the record and identifier that created it. When a page, number, or contact detail appears different, return to the live Protean NPS CRA site and verify the current instructions before proceeding.
