How to check your NPS account status and contributions online (India)

To check an Indian National Pension System (NPS) account, sign in through the official website or mobile app of the Central Recordkeeping Agency (CRA) that issued your Permanent Retirement Account Number (PRAN). Open the Statement of Transactions (SoT), confirm the account status and statement period, then review contribution, employer-share, transaction date, NAV and units entries. PFRDA says a contribution normally takes three working days to appear. A bank debit, payment receipt or payroll deduction shows that money was sent or withheld; it does not by itself prove that NPS units have been allocated.

What you need before checking an NPS account

Have your PRAN, the password or login credentials issued by your CRA, your date of birth and access to the mobile number registered on the NPS record. PRAN is the unique identification number for an NPS individual pension account. PFRDA says it remains the same when you change employer, sector or location, so changing jobs does not normally require a second PRAN.

Your CRA is the recordkeeper for the account. It maintains contribution and withdrawal transactions, issues statements, supports subscribers and handles grievances. The CRA is therefore the place to verify whether a contribution has actually reached the NPS record; your bank and your employer hold related evidence but not the official unit-allocation ledger.

Find the CRA that maintains your PRAN

Do not select a login site at random. Check the account-opening pack, an earlier Statement of Transactions, correspondence from the CRA, or official employer records. A workplace subscriber with an existing PRAN can generally give that number to the employer so the corporate account is tagged to the existing record.

The NPS Trust subscriber login page lists three CRA choices—CAMS, Protean and KFintech—and asks for PRAN, password, date of birth and a one-time password (OTP) sent to the registered mobile. That page displayed “Page Under Maintenance” when checked on 2026-10-13. The notice is a time-specific observation, not evidence that the service is permanently unavailable. If it still cannot be used, go directly to the official web portal or app of the CRA associated with your PRAN.

Choose an official way to sign in

Access route Best use What to confirm
CRA web portal Detailed review, downloading or generating a Statement of Transactions The site is the CRA that issued your PRAN and your registered mobile can receive the OTP
CRA mobile app Quick checks from a phone and account access while away from a computer Use the CRA’s official app listing and the same registered contact details; menu names can differ by CRA

PFRDA identifies both web login and a mobile application as account-access methods, but it does not say that every CRA presents identical menus or features. Never enter PRAN credentials after following an unsolicited SMS, email or social-media link. Open the CRA site or app from a trusted, previously verified source and check the address before entering an OTP.

Step-by-step: check status and contributions

  1. Locate the PRAN. Use the number printed on your PRAN communication or prior statement. If you cannot find it, use the CRA’s official recovery or support route rather than creating another account.
  2. Identify the CRA. Match the issuer shown on your statement or account-opening material. An employer’s payroll system is not a substitute for identifying the CRA.
  3. Open the official portal or app. Use the subscriber login, not a general payment page. The Trust login flow, where available, requires PRAN, password, date of birth and an OTP to the registered mobile.
  4. Complete authentication. Enter the OTP only on the official login screen. If the code does not arrive, confirm that the registered number still works and use the CRA’s current recovery process; there is no single recovery procedure that applies to every CRA.
  5. Open the statement area. Look for “Statement of Transactions,” “Transaction Statement,” or an equivalent statement/download option. Select a date range that includes the contribution date, because a statement generated for a different period may not show it.
  6. Read the subscriber-details section. Confirm the PRAN, account status and period covered before interpreting any balance or transaction list.
  7. Review contribution and transaction lines. Check the contribution amount, whether the line is a subscriber or employer contribution, transaction date, pension-fund manager (PFM), NAV and units allocated. Download the statement and retain it with the related payment or payroll record.

How to read the Statement of Transactions

Account status and statement period

The subscriber-details block identifies the account status and the dates included in the generated statement. Verify the period first. A contribution outside that range is not proof of a posting failure; generate a wider or corrected range and check again.

Contribution and redemption details

The contribution/redemption section records funds uploaded by the office and distinguishes subscriber and employer contributions where applicable. For a workplace account, that split helps you reconcile your own deduction with the employer’s remittance rather than treating the combined amount as your personal contribution.

Transaction and investment details

Transaction entries can show the date, amount by PFM, applicable NAV and number of units allocated. These fields explain why a cash amount on a receipt may not equal a simple balance change: the contribution passes through investment and NAV calculation before units are credited.

Summary figures

The statement explainer describes a period summary containing total pension amount, contributions and returns for the covered period. Treat those figures as period-specific. They are not a substitute for checking each transaction line when reconciling a recent payment.

Checking NPS investment performance online

If you want to know how the investment is performing, use the same SoT rather than relying only on the amount debited from your bank. The transaction section shows the amount invested, the NAV applied and units allocated; the summary gives contributions and returns for the statement period. Compare like-for-like periods, because a short statement window can show only part of a contribution cycle and returns can differ when the selected dates change. The SoT is an account record, not a promise of future returns.

When reviewing a workplace account, separate your own contributions from the employer portion before judging how much you paid. A combined pension amount may include both. If a figure looks different from your expectation, check the transaction date, PFM and units columns and then reconcile the total with the relevant payslips or remittance record.

When should a contribution appear?

PFRDA’s NPS All Citizen Model FAQ says: “It normally takes three working days for the contributions to get reflected in your NPS account.” This is typical processing guidance, not a user-specific guarantee or a promise that every payment will post on the third working day.

The delay reflects several stages: payment realization, upload or remittance by the service provider, investment, NAV declaration and allocation of units by the CRA. PFRDA says subscribers receive an SMS and email confirmation when units are credited. A bank debit or employer payslip can therefore precede the CRA entry without proving that the money has been lost.

Count the three-working-day guidance from the payment or remittance event, while allowing for weekends and other non-working days. If a payment was made late in a cycle, the service provider may still need to upload or remit it before investment and unit allocation occur. Do not treat the normal period as a guaranteed deadline; use it as the point at which a careful reconciliation is appropriate.

If a payment or payroll deduction is missing

First, check the date range and identifiers

Generate an SoT covering the payment date and confirm that you are viewing the correct PRAN. Compare the amount and date in the statement with the bank receipt, payment confirmation or salary slip. Keep the receipt, payslip and any transaction reference; they are useful evidence for a support request.

Then check for the unit-credit message

Search the registered email inbox and SMS history for the CRA’s confirmation that units were credited. The absence of a message is a reason to investigate, not proof that the payment failed, because contact details or message delivery can be wrong.

Escalate through the right channel

If more than the normal processing window has passed and the line is still absent, contact the CRA that maintains the PRAN. For a payroll contribution, also ask the employer’s NPS or payroll service channel to confirm that the remittance was uploaded under the correct PRAN. A Point of Presence (PoP) may be the appropriate service channel for a contribution made through one. PFRDA assigns CRAs subscriber-support and grievance-resolution responsibilities, so use the CRA’s current official complaint or support process if ordinary assistance does not resolve the discrepancy.

Describe the issue precisely: PRAN, contribution date, amount, payment or payroll reference, employer or PoP details, and the date you checked the SoT. Do not send an OTP or full password to a support agent. Because the official guidance does not establish one universal resolution time, ask for a case number and follow the CRA’s stated escalation steps rather than relying on an assumed deadline.

What account statuses mean

Active

An active account can receive and display transactions subject to normal processing. Continue to use the SoT and the CRA’s notices as the authoritative record for contributions.

Frozen

PFRDA’s all-citizen FAQ says an account is categorized as frozen when the applicable minimum contribution has not been received. It is activated upon contribution. Frozen does not mean the account has been closed; check the CRA’s current instructions for the amount, channel and documentation needed in your case.

Closed

Account closure occurs when the subscriber submits an exit request. A missing recent contribution, an inactive login or a frozen label should not be interpreted as closure without an exit request and the CRA’s confirmation.

Other ways to receive the statement

Statement channel Timing and convenience Best use
Online SoT through CRA login Direct access to the current record and selectable period Checking a recent contribution or downloading evidence immediately
Periodic emailed SoT Sent to the registered email address; timing follows the CRA’s statement cycle Routine monitoring when your contact details are current
Annual physical SoT Sent to the correspondence address on record Paper filing or access when digital access is temporarily unavailable

PFRDA describes online, periodic email and annual physical statements as available channels. The online statement is the practical first choice for a current check; email and post are useful records but may not cover a transaction that has not yet completed processing.

Workplace NPS reconciliation

For a salary-linked account, compare three records: the payslip showing your deduction, the employer’s remittance or payroll confirmation, and the CRA’s SoT. The subscriber/employer bifurcation in the statement should explain how the total was divided. If your deduction appears on the payslip but neither the employer share nor the combined contribution appears in the SoT after the normal processing period, ask payroll to verify the PRAN and remittance file before opening a CRA grievance.

If you changed employers, give the new employer your existing PRAN rather than accepting a new number without checking. PFRDA’s guidance treats PRAN as portable across employer, sector and location, and the account record—not a particular payroll system—should follow you.

Keep your contact details and access secure

  • Use only the CRA portal or app connected to your PRAN; do not rely on a link in an unsolicited message.
  • Keep the registered mobile number and email address current so OTPs and unit-credit confirmations reach you.
  • Never disclose a password, OTP, debit-card PIN or full login credentials to an employer, agent or caller.
  • Save downloaded SoTs with the statement period and the related payment or payslip reference.
  • Log out on shared devices and avoid saving PRAN credentials in a public browser.

PFRDA confirms that contact details can be changed online, but the exact screens and identity checks vary by CRA. If you no longer control the registered mobile number, follow the current CRA recovery or contact-detail-update process; do not attempt to bypass OTP verification through an unofficial service.

A practical reconciliation checklist

  1. Write down the PRAN and the CRA name from an official statement.
  2. Record the payment or salary-deduction date, amount and reference number.
  3. Wait through the normal three-working-day reflection period stated by PFRDA, allowing for weekends and other non-working days.
  4. Generate an SoT whose coverage period includes the payment date.
  5. Match the transaction amount, date, subscriber/employer split, NAV and units.
  6. Check the registered email and SMS for a unit-credit confirmation.
  7. If still absent, contact the CRA and, for payroll payments, the employer or PoP; provide copies of the receipt or payslip and request a case number.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Using the wrong CRA: credentials for one CRA will not necessarily open an account maintained by another.
  • Checking a bank balance instead of the SoT: a successful debit confirms a payment event, not unit allocation.
  • Choosing the wrong statement period: a narrow range can hide an older contribution.
  • Calling a frozen account closed: PFRDA distinguishes a frozen status caused by a missing minimum contribution from closure after an exit request.
  • Assuming three working days is a guarantee: it is PFRDA’s normal timeframe, while processing includes several intermediate stages.
  • Sharing OTPs with supposed support staff: use the CRA’s published support route and keep authentication codes private.

What to do when the login page is unavailable

Because the NPS Trust login page showed a maintenance notice on 2026-10-13, start with the CRA’s own official portal or app if you need to check the account now. Confirm the CRA from your statement or account-opening documents, use its subscriber login, and retry later if the service itself is undergoing maintenance. The maintenance message does not change which CRA owns the record or extend the normal contribution-processing guidance.

Frequently overlooked checks

Before reporting a missing contribution, make sure the statement was generated after the relevant transaction date and that the PRAN on the screen matches the PRAN on the payment or payroll record. In a corporate account, verify that the employer used your existing PRAN and not a duplicate number. Check both subscriber and employer columns, since looking at only one can make a correctly posted combined contribution appear incomplete.

Also distinguish a contribution entry from a unit-credit confirmation. The payment may be realized first, uploaded by the service provider next, and invested only after the applicable NAV is declared. The CRA entry and units are the evidence that the NPS record has been updated. Keep the bank or payroll record as supporting evidence, but do not substitute it for the SoT.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I access my NPS account online?

Use the official web portal or mobile app of the CRA that issued your PRAN. The login normally uses the PRAN, CRA credentials, date of birth and an OTP sent to the registered mobile. If you do not know the CRA, check an earlier SoT, account-opening material or official employer records rather than guessing.

How long does an NPS contribution take to show?

PFRDA’s NPS All Citizen Model FAQ says contributions normally take three working days to be reflected. Payment realization, remittance or upload, investment, NAV declaration and CRA unit allocation occur in sequence, so the timeframe is typical guidance rather than a personal guarantee.

Does a bank debit prove that my NPS units were credited?

No. A bank receipt or payroll deduction proves that money was paid or withheld. Check the CRA’s Statement of Transactions and the SMS or email confirming unit credit to verify that the NPS record was updated.

What should I do if my contribution is missing from the SoT?

Generate a statement covering the payment date, confirm the PRAN, compare the amount and date with your receipt or payslip, and look for the CRA’s unit-credit message. If it remains absent after the normal processing window, contact the CRA and, for a payroll contribution, ask the employer or PoP to verify the remittance under the correct PRAN.

What does a frozen NPS account mean?

PFRDA says an account is categorized as frozen when the applicable minimum contribution has not been received and is activated upon contribution. Frozen is not the same as closed; closure follows a subscriber exit request. Follow the CRA’s current instructions for your account.

Can I keep the same PRAN after changing jobs?

Yes. PFRDA describes PRAN as portable across employer, sector and location. Give an existing PRAN to the new employer so the account can be tagged correctly instead of creating a duplicate record.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How can I check NPS performance?

Review the SoT’s transaction and summary sections. Transaction lines show contribution amount, PFM, NAV and units, while the period summary identifies contributions and returns for that covered period. Select comparable date ranges and remember that period returns do not guarantee future results.

What if I cannot receive the OTP?

Use the CRA’s current official recovery or contact-detail-update process. Recovery steps vary by CRA, and there is no universal route. Do not give an OTP or password to a caller or use an unofficial service to bypass verification.

The Bottom Line

Use your PRAN to reach the CRA that maintains your NPS record, open the Statement of Transactions, and check the status, period, contribution split, NAV and units. Allow PFRDA’s normal three-working-day reflection period, then reconcile any missing line with your bank, payroll or PoP record and contact the CRA through its official support route. A payment receipt is supporting evidence; the CRA statement and unit-credit confirmation show what has actually reached the NPS account.
