How to Check Your CIBIL Score and Credit Report for Free in India (2026 Guide)

You can check your TransUnion CIBIL score and full credit report online at no cost once in each calendar year. Use CIBIL’s official free Score and Report route, complete identity authentication, and review the report on screen. The Reserve Bank of India’s rule is broader than CIBIL: every credit information company (CIC) that holds your credit history must provide one authenticated free full report, including the score, during the January–December calendar year.

The free entitlement is not a rolling 12-month offer. If you used CIBIL’s free report on or after January 1, 2026, CIBIL says the next free-report opportunity is January 1, 2027. Paid monitoring plans are optional and are not required for the annual check.

What you receive for free

The CIBIL free product is a score together with a full credit report, rather than a score-only snapshot. The report is compiled from information that banks and other financial institutions have supplied to TransUnion CIBIL. It normally lets you inspect your identifying details, credit accounts, repayment history and recent credit enquiries, along with the latest exposure recorded by CIBIL.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) directed all CICs on September 1, 2016, with the requirement effective January 1, 2017, to provide an authenticated individual one free full credit report (FFCR), including the credit score, once in a calendar year. RBI describes the FFCR as electronic and with the same contents as the most detailed report that the CIC supplies to credit institutions. The entitlement therefore covers a complete bureau file, not merely a promotional score estimate.

Question Free-report answer
How often? Once per calendar year (January through December), not once every rolling 12 months.
Does it include the score? Yes. RBI’s FFCR direction explicitly includes the credit score.
Is it a full report? Yes. RBI says it should match the CIC’s most detailed report supplied to lenders.
Does it cover every bureau? Each CIC must provide its own report when it holds your credit history; a CIBIL report is not the same file as an Equifax, Experian or CRIF High Mark report.
Is payment required? No for the annual report. CIBIL’s more frequent monitoring products are optional.

Before you start

Use a device and connection you control, and begin at CIBIL’s official website. CIBIL also identifies digital distribution partners; use a partner only when CIBIL lists it and the page carries the Powered by CIBIL mark. Do not enter your details on a search-ad landing page or send them to a person who offers to retrieve the report.

Have the information needed for authentication

CIBIL’s support instructions refer to personal information such as your Permanent Account Number (PAN) and date of birth, followed by system-generated identity authentication. Keep your details exactly as they appear on your official records. The precise questions can vary because the system uses information in your credit file to verify that you are the requester.

Keep credentials and one-time passwords private

Complete authentication inside the official CIBIL flow. Never disclose an account password, one-time password (OTP), PAN scan or banking login to an intermediary. A legitimate support representative should not need you to read an OTP aloud or send it through messaging.

Step-by-step: get your free CIBIL score and report

  1. Open the free route. Go to CIBIL’s official website and choose the free CIBIL Score and Report option. If you already use myCIBIL, sign in rather than creating a duplicate account.
  2. Choose the correct account path. Existing users open My Account and select Get your Free Report. New users begin the free-report enrollment flow and provide the requested personal details.
  3. Enter identifying information. Supply the requested details, which can include PAN and date of birth. Check spelling, numbers and dates before submitting; a mismatch can prevent the system from matching you to the correct file.
  4. Complete system-generated authentication. CIBIL will ask questions or request confirmation based on information associated with your credit history. Answer only within the authenticated CIBIL page. This identity check is required before the report is displayed.
  5. View the report online. After successful authentication, CIBIL presents your score and report electronically. Read the entire file, not just the headline number, because an incorrect account, payment entry or enquiry can matter when a lender evaluates an application.
  6. Record the date you used the entitlement. The free allowance follows the calendar year. Note when you successfully accessed the report so you know when the next annual window opens. If you used it at any time on or after January 1, 2026, CIBIL says the next eligibility date is January 1, 2027.

If online authentication fails

Do not keep guessing answers or create multiple accounts. CIBIL’s stated fallback is to contact customer support so it can complete identity verification. Have the email address used for registration and the relevant identifying details ready, but provide them only through the support channel reached from CIBIL’s official site.

When the free link is missing

CIBIL says the annual free-report link may be absent when the calendar year’s free report has already been used. It also notes that the link can become available after an active unlimited plan expires. A missing link does not by itself mean that you must buy a plan: first check the date of your last successful free access and whether an existing paid plan is still active.

The calendar-year rule explains common confusion. For example, a report obtained on December 20, 2025 and another obtained on January 2, 2026 are in different calendar years, even though only 13 days separate them. Conversely, a report obtained on January 2, 2026 generally uses the allowance for all of 2026; the next CIBIL free-report date is January 1, 2027.

How to read the report

Read each section against your own records. The report reflects data available to CIBIL from reporting institutions; it is not a promise that a bank will approve or price a future loan in a particular way.

Personal information

Check your name, date of birth, PAN-related details, addresses and other identifying fields. Variations can be legitimate, but an unfamiliar identity detail may indicate that an account has been associated with the wrong file or that your information has been misused.

Credit accounts and exposure

Look for every loan, credit card and other account you recognize. Check the lender name, account type, opening and closing dates, current balance and status. CIBIL’s report reflects the latest exposure it has received from the institution, so a recently paid or closed account can remain visible while the lender’s next update is pending.

Repayment history

Review month-by-month payment entries and any overdue or default indicators. Compare them with statements and payment confirmations. A single wrongly reported late payment can affect how a lender interprets your file, so capture the account and period that appear incorrect before opening a dispute.

Credit enquiries

Enquiries show requests for your credit information. Identify each one by institution and date. An enquiry you do not recognize deserves investigation, especially if you did not apply for a product around that time. An enquiry is not the same as a new account, but it can signal an application that needs checking.

Score and context

The score summarizes information in this particular bureau file. It is not interchangeable with a score from another CIC, and it is not a guarantee of approval, interest rate or credit limit. Lenders can use their own policies, income checks and other information in addition to a bureau score.

What to do when something is wrong

  1. Identify the exact entry. Note the account or enquiry number, lender name, date, balance or payment month, and explain what your records show instead. Specific descriptions are easier for the reporting institution to investigate than a general statement that the score is wrong.
  2. Collect supporting records. Keep statements, closure letters, payment receipts or identity documents available. Upload or provide only what the official dispute form requests, and redact unrelated account information where practical.
  3. Open CIBIL’s online dispute process. CIBIL says inaccuracies can be disputed online from its consumer service flow. Select the relevant personal, account, payment or enquiry field and submit the correction request.
  4. Track the response. CIBIL’s FAQ gives an approximate resolution time of 30 days, but the period depends on how quickly the relevant credit institution responds. Treat 30 days as an estimate, not a guaranteed deadline.
  5. Escalate with the lender when necessary. CIBIL says it does not modify a record without written confirmation from the relevant credit institution. If the lender’s data is wrong, contact that lender as well and request written confirmation of the correction it sends to CIBIL.
  6. Check the updated file. Once the institution confirms a change and CIBIL processes it, review the affected field again. If it remains incorrect, retain the dispute reference and correspondence and continue through the official CIBIL and lender channels.

Consumers are not required to pay a fee for rectifying discrepancies or updating their credit information.

That statement appears in TransUnion CIBIL’s consumer guide, Understanding CIBIL: Functions, Product and Service. A request to pay someone simply to correct a discrepancy is therefore not a requirement of the CIBIL process.

Free CIBIL access versus other official bureau reports

RBI’s annual FFCR rule applies to each CIC that holds your credit history. The consumer material names TransUnion CIBIL, Equifax, Experian and CRIF High Mark. You may therefore request the free annual report from another CIC through that company’s own authenticated route, subject to its process and to whether it has a file for you.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Comparison point What to check
File being viewed Confirm which CIC supplied the report. Each bureau maintains its own data received from lenders.
Eligibility Check that the CIC holds your credit history and that you have not already used that CIC’s calendar-year free report.
Identity verification Follow the bureau’s own authentication steps; do not assume another bureau’s login proves identity for CIBIL.
Contents RBI calls for a full electronic report including the score, but field labels and presentation can differ.
Corrections Dispute an error with the CIC displaying it and with the lender that supplied the information.

Scores can differ between bureaus because their files, update timing and scoring models may differ. Checking another CIC does not alter your CIBIL report, and a CIBIL dispute does not automatically correct another bureau’s file.

Security and scam checks

  • Type CIBIL’s address yourself or use a bookmark you created from the official site. Verify that the page is secure and that the domain is correct before entering PAN or date of birth.
  • If you use a distribution partner, confirm that CIBIL lists it and look for the Powered by CIBIL mark. Do not rely solely on a logo copied into an unsolicited message.
  • Never send an OTP, password or complete report to an agent who promises a higher score or guaranteed loan approval.
  • Do not pay a third party to obtain the annual report. Paid CIBIL monitoring can provide more frequent access, but it is optional and does not replace the free calendar-year entitlement.
  • After reviewing the report, sign out of shared devices and store any notes or downloaded material where other people cannot access your personal information.

Troubleshooting common situations

What you see Likely explanation What to do
The free-report button is not shown. The calendar year’s report may already have been used, or an unlimited plan may still be active. Check your access date and plan status; contact official CIBIL support if the dates do not explain it.
Authentication will not complete. Answers may not match the file, or the online check may have failed. Stop repeated attempts and ask CIBIL support to complete identity verification.
An account or enquiry is unfamiliar. The lender may have reported an error or someone may have applied using your identity. Capture the details, contact the named lender, and submit an online CIBIL dispute.
A correction is still pending after 30 days. CIBIL’s estimate depends on the credit institution’s response. Follow up with both CIBIL and the lender using the dispute reference and request written confirmation.
Another bureau shows a different score. Bureaus can hold different files or receive updates at different times. Compare the underlying accounts and dates; dispute errors separately with each affected bureau and lender.
No report appears for you. The CIC may not hold a credit history for your identity. Confirm that your personal details were entered correctly and ask the relevant CIC’s support team how it handles a file with no available history.

What the report can—and cannot—tell you

The report is a record of information supplied by lenders, not an independent investigation of every debt and not a decision by a future lender. It can reveal whether accounts, balances, payment markers and enquiries appear to be associated with you. It cannot guarantee that a lender will approve an application, offer a particular interest rate or update an entry immediately after you make a payment.

Use the free check as a factual audit. If everything is accurate, keep the report date and continue paying accounts on time. If an entry is wrong, begin the dispute while you have statements and lender correspondence available. If you are preparing to apply for credit, checking before the application gives you time to resolve a genuine reporting problem without paying for a monitoring subscription.

Key takeaways

  • Use CIBIL’s official free Score and Report route, complete authentication and view the score and full report online.
  • The CIBIL allowance is one report per calendar year. A report used in 2026 becomes available again on January 1, 2027, not after a rolling 12-month wait.
  • RBI’s entitlement applies separately to each CIC that holds your history, including CIBIL, Equifax, Experian and CRIF High Mark.
  • Review personal details, accounts, repayment history and enquiries. Dispute inaccurate information online through CIBIL and contact the lender that supplied it.
  • CIBIL estimates about 30 days for a dispute, subject to the institution’s response, and says consumers do not have to pay to rectify or update information.
  • Paid monitoring is optional; it is not needed to complete the annual free check.
