To verify the latest increase, use the pensioner-specific Dearness Relief (DR) order—not the employee Dearness Allowance (DA) notice—and compare it with your own pension record. The latest Department of Pension & Pensioners’ Welfare (DoPPW) memorandum is dated 24 April 2026. It raises DR from 58% to 60% of basic pension or family pension, including additional pension or additional family pension, with effect from 1 January 2026.
Check the order and your payment history through the Centralised Pension Accounting Office (CPAO) Pensioner’s Service (WRPS) portal at https://cpao.nic.in. The record should show the revised DR, any arrears and the underlying basic-pension figure. If the credit is wrong or missing, the pension-disbursing bank’s Central Pension Processing Centre (CPPC) is the operational contact; CPAO provides information and grievance tracking but does not itself disburse every pension.

What changed in the latest DR revision?
The Union Cabinet announcement was made on 18 April 2026, and the DoPPW pensioner memorandum followed on 24 April 2026. The memorandum changes the rate as follows:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems| Item | Official figure | What it means for your record |
|---|---|---|
| Previous DR rate | 58% | The percentage previously applied to basic pension or family pension |
| Revised DR rate | 60% | The percentage to use from the effective date in the memorandum |
| Effective date | 1 January 2026 | The period from which the two-percentage-point difference can generate arrears |
| Rounding rule | Fraction of a rupee rounded up | The DR amount is rounded to the next higher rupee when a fraction occurs |
| Government announcement estimate | About 68.27 lakh pensioners | A figure stated in the Cabinet announcement, not an independently verified count |
The 60% rate applies to basic pension or family pension and includes additional pension or additional family pension where applicable. The memorandum’s effective date is not the same thing as the date your bank posts the credit. Your individual payment date and arrear-processing status must be confirmed in your pension record or with the bank.

DA and DR are related, but they are not the same payment
Dearness Allowance (DA) is the inflation-relief component for serving Central Government employees. Dearness Relief (DR) is the corresponding component for pensioners and family pensioners. A DA announcement may be reported first because it concerns employees, but it does not replace the pensioner order used to calculate your pension.
For a pensioner’s entitlement, use the DoPPW DR memorandum dated 24 April 2026. The Department of Expenditure’s employee DA listing and the DoPPW pensioner DR memorandum are separate official documents. Your bank should apply the pensioner rate to the pension basis shown in your own record; copying a percentage from an employee DA notice without checking the DR memorandum can lead to the wrong effective date or calculation.
Before you start: confirm that CPAO is the right channel
CPAO’s WRPS service is designed for the Central Civil pension cases that it handles. CPAO states that it does not handle pension work for Railways, Posts, Telecom, Defence, State Governments or public-sector undertakings. The DoPPW memorandum may describe broad categories to which the DR rate applies, but the online checking route depends on the authority that sanctions and pays your pension.
| Your pension category | First checking route | If the payment is wrong |
|---|---|---|
| Central Civil pension handled through CPAO | CPAO WRPS profile, revision orders and monthly payment details | Your pension-disbursing bank’s CPPC, followed by CPAO grievance tracking where applicable |
| Railway, postal, telecom or Defence pension | The relevant department or pension authority’s pension portal or records | That authority and its designated disbursing bank |
| State Government pension | Your state treasury or pension authority | State pension grievance channel or disbursing bank |
| Public-sector undertaking pension | The PSU’s pension administrator and bank | The administrator or bank named in your pension instructions |
If you are unsure, look at the authority named on your Pension Payment Order (PPO) or earlier revision memorandum. Do not assume that a CPAO login can display a pension administered outside CPAO’s scope.
How to check your pension and DR revision in CPAO WRPS
1. Open the official CPAO service
- Type https://cpao.nic.in into your browser and choose Pensioner’s Service (WRPS).
- Use the registration or sign-in option shown on the official site. Avoid links sent by callers, text messages or social-media accounts claiming to update your pension.
CPAO’s service is the authoritative starting point for the records it receives from pension-disbursing banks. The portal may change its screen labels, so follow the current WRPS menu rather than an old screenshot.

2. Register with the details requested by WRPS
For a new pensioner registration, CPAO identifies the PPO number, date of birth and date of retirement or death as required details. Its step-by-step guidance also mentions the bank account number for new registration. Have the information exactly as it appears in your pension documents and bank record; a mismatch can prevent registration or produce an incomplete profile.
- PPO number, including any letters, prefixes or leading zeroes
- Date of birth in the format requested on screen
- Date of retirement, or date of death for a family-pension case, as applicable
- The pension account number if WRPS asks for it during registration
3. Open your pensioner profile and revision orders
After signing in, review the profile for the correct name, PPO and pension category. WRPS provides a digital record of pension and revision orders sent to the bank. Open the order that corresponds to the latest DR change and download or save a copy for your records.
Check the order’s effective date, rate and pension basis. A revision order is evidence of what was sent for implementation; it is not, by itself, proof that the bank has already credited the amount.
4. Review monthly pension payment details
Use the monthly payment-details section to inspect the actual payment entries. CPAO says these details can show basic pension, DR, medical allowance and arrear payments, based on monthly scrolls received from banks. Its service description says the latest six transactions are displayed, while a separate dashboard description refers to the last 36 payment transactions. The number visible may therefore depend on which WRPS view you open or how the portal is currently configured.
Open each relevant month and record:
- Basic pension or family-pension amount
- DR rate or DR amount
- Medical allowance, if listed
- Any arrear line, its period and amount
- The net amount credited and the transaction date
Download the page or save a PDF if the portal provides that option. Keep the bank statement for the same months so you can distinguish a calculation issue from a posting or account-credit issue.

5. Compare the order with the payment entry
Make the comparison using the same effective date and the same pension basis. For the 2026 revision, the rate difference is two percentage points: 60% minus 58%. The expected increase for a month is therefore generally 2% of the applicable basic pension or family pension, subject to the memorandum’s treatment of additional pension, additional family pension, rounding and any other applicable pension components.
For an illustration only, if the applicable basic pension were ₹30,000 for a full month, the two-percentage-point difference would be ₹600 before considering any separate arrear-period or record-specific adjustments. Your own amount must be calculated from the basic figure in your PPO and payment record, not from this example.
The DoPPW memorandum states: “The payment of Dearness Relief involving a fraction of a rupee shall be rounded off to the next higher rupee.” Apply that rule to the DR calculation shown for the relevant payment period. Do not round the underlying pension arbitrarily or treat the rounded result as a different basic-pension amount.
How to check DR arrears
Because the revised rate is effective from 1 January 2026, an eligible pensioner may see an arrear for one or more months if the bank first paid DR at 58%. The exact arrear period depends on when the revision was implemented in your account and on the months for which you were eligible.
- In WRPS, open monthly payment details covering January 2026 onward.
- Look for a separate arrear entry, an expanded DR line or a revision-related credit.
- Compare the months covered by the arrear with the difference between 60% and 58% of your applicable pension basis.
- Check the bank statement for a matching credit date and amount.
- Keep the revision order, payment-detail printout and bank statement together if you need to raise a query.
Official material confirms the rate and effective date, but it does not establish when any particular bank will finish processing an individual pensioner’s arrears. A missing arrear is therefore a case-specific processing question for the CPPC, not evidence that the national rate is different.

What to do when the amount does not match
The portal shows 60%, but the bank credit is lower
- Check whether the entry is a partial month, a family-pension transition or another period with a different pension basis.
- Verify that the bank statement date and the WRPS transaction month refer to the same payment cycle.
- Check whether an arrear was credited separately rather than included in the regular monthly amount.
- Ask the bank’s CPPC to explain the calculation and implementation status, supplying the PPO and revision order.
The portal still shows 58% after the effective date
Save the displayed payment detail and the DoPPW memorandum reference. Ask the CPPC whether the revision order was received and queued. If the bank has not received or acted on the order, CPAO’s role is to provide the relevant service or grievance route; CPAO does not independently revise a pension sanctioned by the parent office and does not itself make the pension payment.
The revision order is missing from WRPS
Confirm that you are using the correct PPO and that your pension falls within CPAO’s service area. If the pension is for Railways, Posts, Telecom, Defence, a State Government or a PSU, contact that system’s pension authority instead. For a CPAO-covered case, ask the disbursing bank whether the order was transmitted and request an explanation for the missing digital record.
The payment is correct but the portal history is incomplete
WRPS displays data received from banks. Because one CPAO description refers to six latest transactions and another refers to 36 dashboard transactions, an older month may not appear in the view you opened. Use the available download, switch to the dashboard or request the bank’s statement and scroll details for older periods.

Protect yourself from pension fraud
CPAO warns about callers who claim to help with a Life Certificate or pension update and ask for a PPO number, bank or identity details, or an OTP. CPAO, banks and other government agencies do not call pensioners asking for an OTP to complete such assistance.
- Never tell a caller an OTP, debit-card PIN, internet-banking password or full login credentials.
- Do not install a remote-access app because someone promises to fix a DR payment.
- Close the call and open https://cpao.nic.in yourself, or contact the bank using the number on its official statement or website.
- If you have disclosed banking credentials, contact the bank immediately through its official fraud-reporting channel.
A practical record-keeping checklist
Keep a small file—paper or digital—with the documents below. It makes a calculation query much faster and helps separate an entitlement question from a bank-posting problem.
- Current PPO and any subsequent revision orders
- The DoPPW DR memorandum dated 24 April 2026 or its official reference details
- WRPS registration and profile information
- Monthly payment details for January 2026 onward
- Bank statements showing regular pension and any arrear credit
- CPPC correspondence, grievance number and status updates
When sharing documents, mask account numbers, Aadhaar or other identity fields that the recipient does not need. Retain the unredacted originals securely.

A completed check has four matching elements: the DoPPW memorandum shows 60% effective 1 January 2026; your PPO or pension record identifies the basic pension or family-pension basis, including any applicable additional pension; WRPS or the bank payment detail shows the revised DR and any arrears; and the bank statement shows the corresponding credit. If one element is absent, identify which party controls that step and raise the query there rather than treating the employee DA announcement as your payment record.
