Use the ZIP code’s median family income, not your household income or your personal income. Enter the ZIP code in the Census Reporter median family income table, select the matching place, and compare the displayed figure with $117,300. A result of $117,300 or less meets the finalized ZIP threshold for Michael and Susan Dell’s $250 Trump Account contribution, based on the 2020–2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 5-Year Estimates, as of October 9, 2026.
This lookup tells you whether the ZIP code was within the Dell contribution allocation. It does not prove that an individual child’s account received a deposit. Account ownership and deposit status must be confirmed through official Trump Accounts channels.

The short answer: compare median family income with $117,300
For the Dell-funded contribution, the qualifying measure is the median family income (MFI) for the ZIP code. The finalized cutoff is $117,300 or less, using the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2020–2024 ACS 5-Year Estimates. Invest America identifies that threshold as current as of October 9, 2026.

The comparison is straightforward:
- $117,300 or less: the ZIP code falls within the published Dell allocation threshold.
- More than $117,300: the ZIP code is outside that allocation threshold.
The number is a ZIP-level statistic. It is not a test of the family’s tax return, wages, assets, or individual income. A family can earn more or less than the ZIP’s median and still receive the same ZIP-level result.

How to check a ZIP code step by step
- Open the Census Reporter median family income table. Invest America directs users to that table for the exact ZIP lookup.
- Enter the five-digit ZIP code. Use the ZIP connected with the child’s residence for the lookup you are evaluating.
- Select the ZIP from the results list. Selecting the matching place matters because a typed number alone is not the completed lookup.
- Locate median family income. Read the field labeled for median family income, rather than a similarly named household-income field.
- Compare the figure with $117,300. A value at or below the cutoff is within the published threshold; a value above it is not.
- Check the data vintage. The finalized allocation uses the 2020–2024 ACS 5-Year Estimates. Older pages may show a different cutoff or an earlier data set.
- Verify the child’s account separately. Use official Trump Accounts channels to check whether an account exists and whether the contribution appears. The ZIP lookup is not a deposit receipt.
For a reliable record, save the ZIP result, the displayed median family income, and the data vintage on the date you checked. That makes it easier to explain how you reached the result if an account representative asks which measure you used.
Use median family income—not the other income numbers
Median family income
“Median” means the middle value when family incomes in the ZIP are ordered from lowest to highest. Half of the families have income below that point and half have income above it. The Dell allocation uses this ZIP-level middle value as reported in the ACS data.
Median household income
A household can include people who are not related, while a family is defined differently in Census statistics. Because those populations are different, median household income and median family income can produce different numbers for the same ZIP. Using the household figure can therefore lead to the wrong conclusion even when the amount looks close to the cutoff.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesYour family’s own income
Invest America says the allocation relied on ZIP-code data rather than an individual family’s income. Do not substitute a pay stub, tax return, adjusted gross income, or benefit amount for the Census ZIP statistic. Those figures do not answer the Dell ZIP test.

What the $250 Dell contribution covers
Michael and Susan Dell’s contribution is a $250 deposit per child allocated by ZIP code. Invest America describes an allocation that began with the lowest-income ZIP codes and expanded until 25 million children were reached. The final boundary was ZIP codes with median family income of $117,300 or less.
The allocation applies to children born from 2016 through 2024. Eligible children living on military bases were included as well. Those birth years and the military-base inclusion are part of the Dell allocation description; they do not change the income measure or the $117,300 comparison.
| Item | Dell contribution |
|---|---|
| Contribution amount | $250 per child |
| Funding source | Michael and Susan Dell |
| Birth years covered | 2016–2024 |
| Allocation method | ZIP-code median family income |
| Final ZIP threshold | $117,300 or less |
| Population reached | 25 million children |
| Income data | 2020–2024 ACS 5-Year Estimates |
| Threshold date | As of October 9, 2026 |
A ZIP match does not confirm an individual deposit
There are two separate questions:
- Was the ZIP within the Dell allocation threshold? The Census Reporter lookup answers this ZIP-level question.
- Does a particular child have an account and the $250 contribution? Only the child’s account record and official Trump Accounts channels can answer this individual question.
Invest America specifically cautions that having a Trump Account and receiving the Dell contribution are separate matters. A qualifying ZIP result is evidence that the ZIP met the published allocation rule; it is not confirmation that money has posted to a named child’s account.
When checking an account, have the child’s identifying information available and follow the verification process provided through the official account channels. If the account record does not show the contribution, do not treat the Census result as proof that a deposit must already be visible. The ZIP lookup and account-status inquiry use different records.

Keep the federal $1,000 pilot contribution separate
The federal pilot contribution is a different program with different eligibility rules. IRS and U.S. Department of the Treasury materials describe a $1,000 federal contribution for qualifying U.S. citizen children born in 2025 through 2028 who have a valid Social Security number and meet the election requirements. IRS Form 4547 is used for the account and pilot-contribution election.
| Feature | Dell contribution | Federal pilot contribution |
|---|---|---|
| Amount | $250 | $1,000 |
| Birth years | 2016–2024 | 2025–2028 |
| Funding source | Michael and Susan Dell | Federal government |
| Income test described | ZIP median family income of $117,300 or less | IRS eligibility and election requirements; no Dell ZIP cutoff |
| Key election document | Account verification through official Trump Accounts channels | IRS Form 4547 |
Because the birth-year ranges are different, do not describe the two contributions as one combined ZIP rule. A ZIP above $117,300 does not by itself prevent a child from opening a Trump Account or qualifying for a separate contribution. Conversely, a ZIP below the Dell threshold does not replace the federal pilot’s citizenship, Social Security number, or election requirements.
Common mistakes and how to correct them
Using an outdated $150,000 cutoff
Earlier explanations may mention a $150,000 figure. Invest America’s current guidance identifies $117,300 as the finalized threshold after auto-enrollment expanded the eligible pool. Use the $117,300 figure and state that it is current as of October 9, 2026.

Comparing the family’s income with the ZIP statistic
The allocation is not based on what a particular parent or guardian earns. Recalculate using the ZIP’s median family income from the ACS-based table.
Stopping after the ZIP lookup
A qualifying result does not establish that the child’s account was created or funded. Complete the separate account-status check through official Trump Accounts channels.
Assuming a nonqualifying ZIP blocks every Trump Account benefit
The Dell allocation threshold applies to that $250 ZIP-based contribution. A ZIP above the cutoff does not make a child ineligible to open a Trump Account or to receive another contribution whose rules are different.

Worked comparison using the cutoff
The rule is inclusive at the boundary. A Census Reporter result of exactly $117,300 is at or below the threshold. A result of $117,301 is above it. The comparison concerns the displayed ZIP statistic, not a rounded estimate of the family’s own income.
Suppose two ZIP lookups produce different MFI values. The ZIP with the lower value is not automatically associated with a particular child’s deposit; it simply has a lower ZIP-level statistic. In each case, you still need the child’s birth year, account record, and the official contribution information to determine what actually posted.
A practical checklist before you rely on the result
- Confirm that the child was born in 2016–2024 for the Dell contribution.
- Enter the exact five-digit ZIP and select the matching result.
- Read median family income, not median household income.
- Compare the amount with $117,300.
- Confirm that the result is based on the 2020–2024 ACS 5-Year Estimates.
- Record that the threshold is stated as of October 9, 2026.
- Remember that eligible children living on military bases were included in the Dell allocation.
- Check the child’s Trump Account through official channels; do not treat the ZIP result as a deposit confirmation.
- If evaluating the federal $1,000 pilot instead, use its separate 2025–2028 birth-year, citizenship, Social Security number, and election requirements.
What to do when the result and account status seem inconsistent
The ZIP is at or below $117,300, but no $250 is visible
Recheck the selected ZIP, the income field, and the ACS vintage first. Then use the official Trump Accounts account-status process. The published guidance treats ZIP eligibility and an individual deposit as separate questions, so an account review is necessary.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The ZIP is above $117,300
That result places the ZIP outside the finalized Dell allocation threshold. It does not, by itself, bar the child from having a Trump Account or from qualifying under another program. If the child was born in 2025–2028, review the federal pilot rules instead of applying the Dell cutoff.
The child lives on a military base
Invest America says eligible children living on military bases were included. Perform the same median-family-income lookup and then verify the account through official channels.
The child’s birth year does not fit the Dell range
The $250 allocation described here covers births from 2016 through 2024. For a child born in 2025–2028, the relevant comparison is the separate federal pilot contribution and its IRS election requirements, not the Dell ZIP threshold.
Bottom line
To check the Dell $250 contribution, look up your ZIP code’s median family income in the Census Reporter table and compare it with the finalized cutoff of $117,300 or less, using the 2020–2024 ACS 5-Year Estimates as of October 9, 2026. That result identifies whether the ZIP falls within the published allocation. It does not verify a child’s individual deposit, so complete the separate official Trump Account check. Keep the federal $1,000 pilot contribution distinct: it covers qualifying U.S. citizen children born in 2025–2028 and uses IRS election requirements rather than the Dell ZIP test.
