AT&T does not provide a confirmed, universal public form that reveals every data field exposed for an individual. A separate official settlement website can help determine whether you fall within a settlement class, but settlement eligibility is not the same as an account-specific exposure report.
There were two separate AT&T incidents in 2024
Do not treat every reference to an “AT&T breach” as one event. The official AT&T Customer Data Security Breach Litigation settlement website identifies two incidents:

If you received a notice, use its incident date and the details in that notice when speaking with AT&T. Settlement dates, claim deadlines and incident-specific information can change, so check the official settlement administrator’s website for the current status rather than relying on an old article or social-media post.

A Massachusetts breach notice says the affected information differed by individual and account. Potential fields included:

“Could include” is important here. The list describes possible data elements, not a checklist that applies to every customer. Your individual AT&T notice, or an explanation obtained through trusted AT&T support, is the appropriate source for the fields associated with your record.
How to check whether your information was exposed
1. Search for the original AT&T notice
Check the email account associated with your AT&T service and your physical mail. For the March incident, the Associated Press reported that affected consumers were to receive an email or letter directly from AT&T. Search for messages from AT&T using terms such as “data security,” “data incident,” “breach,” or “notice,” but do not trust a message solely because its display name looks familiar.
Review the entire notice for the incident date, an explanation of the data involved and instructions for contacting AT&T. Save a copy for your records. If the notice identifies particular fields, record those fields separately so you can take the right protective action without assuming that all possible fields were exposed.

2. Treat links, attachments and phone numbers in an unexpected message as untrusted
A breach notice can be imitated in a phishing campaign. Do not click an unfamiliar link, open an unexpected attachment or call a number printed in a suspicious message. Instead, open AT&T’s website by typing the address yourself or use a telephone number from an existing bill, contract or other AT&T correspondence you already trust.
AT&T’s general breach guidance recommends confirming breach communications through trusted contact details. A message that demands immediate payment, asks for a password or one-time security code, or pressures you to “verify” personal information is a reason to stop and verify through an independent channel.
3. Ask AT&T support whether the notice applies to your account
Use the independently sourced AT&T contact route and ask whether the account-specific notice is genuine. Ask the representative to identify:

- Which of the two 2024 incidents the notice concerns
- Whether the notice is associated with your account or former account
- Which categories of information were identified for your record
- What security or fraud steps AT&T recommends for your situation
Have an account number or other verification information ready, but do not disclose a password or security code to someone who contacted you unexpectedly. The available AT&T and government materials do not establish a universal public lookup tool that returns a definitive, individualized list of exposed fields. Signing in to your account by itself therefore does not prove that you were unaffected.
4. Keep the two incidents separate when you follow up
If a representative or notice mentions March 30, 2024, ask about the dataset released on March 17. If it mentions July 12, 2024, ask about the separate incident. A response about one event may not answer a question about the other. Record the date of your conversation, the department contacted and any case or reference number provided.
How the settlement website fits into the check
The official AT&T Customer Data Security Breach Litigation settlement website is a legal settlement resource. It explains class definitions, eligibility and claim procedures for the two 2024 incidents. People whose data elements were included in either incident may qualify for settlement benefits, subject to the settlement’s rules.
That site is not a universal AT&T exposure scanner. It does not replace the individual notice or a conversation with AT&T about which fields were connected to your account. Being an AT&T customer alone does not establish that you qualify for a payment or other benefit. Read the current class definition and filing instructions on the official site, and use the administrator’s current deadlines because settlement schedules are subject to change.
Choose the right route for your goal

How large was the reported population?
An April 3, 2024 alert from the Michigan Attorney General, summarizing AT&T’s announcement, referred to approximately 7.6 million current AT&T account holders and more than 60 million former account holders. Those are population figures associated with the announcement; they do not determine whether any particular reader’s information was exposed or which fields were involved.
Do not infer your status from being a current or former customer, from the number of people mentioned in a headline, or from a notice sent to someone else in your household. Only your own notice or a trusted AT&T response can address your account-specific question.

What to do if your Social Security number may be involved
If your notice identifies your Social Security number, AT&T Cyber Aware recommends considering a credit freeze. A freeze is placed with each credit bureau separately; it restricts access to your credit file for most new-credit applications until you lift it. Follow the current instructions provided by each bureau and keep the confirmation details in a secure place.
A freeze does not change the information already in an existing account and does not stop every type of identity theft. Continue reviewing account statements and credit reports for unfamiliar activity. If you need help responding to identity theft, the Federal Trade Commission’s identity-theft resource at identitytheft.gov provides a government checklist and recovery steps.
What to do if a password or passcode may be exposed
Change an exposed AT&T passcode and any password that was reused elsewhere. Make each replacement long and unique, and change it directly in the official app or website for that account. Do not use a link from a breach email to reset credentials.

AT&T’s compromised-password guidance makes an important distinction: “The compromised password alert doesn’t mean there’s been a breach at AT&T.” A username-and-password pair can appear in a non-AT&T breach, and an alert alone is not proof that AT&T itself was breached. Treat the alert as a reason to replace reused credentials on every affected service, while relying on the AT&T notice and support channel for questions about AT&T incidents.
If available on your accounts, enable multifactor authentication, review active sessions and remove devices you do not recognize. Never disclose a one-time code to a caller or texter who initiated contact.
What to do if you see unauthorized AT&T activity
Contact AT&T’s Global Fraud Management team if you see an order, charge, account change or device activity that you did not authorize. Use contact details obtained from AT&T’s official website, an existing bill or another trusted record. Ask AT&T to secure the account and document the unauthorized activity.

Also contact your bank or card issuer about unfamiliar financial transactions, preserve emails and billing records, and change credentials through the official websites or apps. If an account takeover affected other services, notify those providers individually; securing only the AT&T account may leave reused credentials exposed elsewhere.
How to recognize a fake breach notice
- Urgency without specifics: The message threatens immediate closure or financial loss but does not clearly identify the incident or affected service.
- Requests for secrets: It asks for your password, multifactor code, full payment-card number or other information AT&T should not need by email.
- Suspicious destination: The link leads to a misspelled domain, a shortened address or a page that does not match the AT&T site you reached independently.
- Unexpected attachment: The message asks you to open a file to “see your exposed data.”
- Payment demand: It requests a fee to release information, prevent account closure or obtain a settlement benefit.
If you clicked a suspicious link, close the page, change any credential you entered using the legitimate account site, enable multifactor authentication and monitor the account. If you downloaded a file, run your device’s current security scan and seek professional assistance if you observe unusual behavior.
What AT&T’s ActiveArmor alerts do and do not tell you
AT&T describes ActiveArmor Data Breach Alerts this way: “These alerts let you know when services or companies you select have a security breach.” The alerts can provide incident details and recommend checking whether you were impacted. They are a monitoring notification, not a substitute for the direct AT&T notice about either 2024 incident.
An alert about another company may explain why a password appears compromised without establishing that AT&T suffered a new breach. Check the named service’s official communication and change any reused password directly in that service.
Records to keep while you investigate
- The original email or a scan of the postal notice
- The incident date and any reference number
- The data categories identified in your notice
- Dates, departments and case numbers from AT&T contacts
- Credit-freeze confirmations, fraud reports and dispute correspondence
- Copies of unauthorized orders, invoices, texts and account alerts
Keep these records in a secure location. They make it easier to explain the issue to AT&T, a financial institution, a credit bureau or a government agency without repeatedly relying on memory.
Common mistakes to avoid
Assuming every listed field was exposed
The March notice describes fields that could vary by person and account. Do not tell others that their Social Security number, date of birth or passcode was exposed unless their own notice says so.

Using a settlement claim page as an exposure checker
Settlement eligibility and account-specific exposure are different questions. The settlement administrator decides whether the legal class and claim rules apply; AT&T support handles questions about an individual notice.
Trusting a search result or forum post over a direct notice
Public discussion can help you recognize the incident, but it cannot verify your record. Use your AT&T notice and independently sourced support details.
Changing only one reused password
If the same credential was used on several services, change it everywhere. Otherwise, an attacker may use the unchanged copy to enter another account.

Waiting for proof before taking low-risk precautions
You can change reused passwords, enable multifactor authentication and monitor statements while you verify the notice. Those steps do not require you to assume that every possible data field was exposed.
When you still cannot get a clear answer
Ask AT&T to escalate the question and provide the incident date and any case number from your notice. Send no sensitive information to an address or phone number supplied by an unverified message. If AT&T cannot confirm an individualized exposure report, you can still follow the protective steps tied to the fields actually identified in your notice and review the settlement administrator’s current class information separately.
For suspected identity theft, use the Federal Trade Commission’s identity-theft recovery guidance and notify affected financial institutions. For unauthorized AT&T orders or account changes, continue with Global Fraud Management rather than waiting for a settlement decision.
