Enter the Jeevan Pramaan ID (As per DLC)—the DLC transaction ID shown on your submission message or certificate—and inspect the beneficiary details returned by the enquiry. This is the official way to check whether the digital life certificate has reached the EPFO record.
A submission receipt alone is not proof of acceptance. If you also need the status of the pension account itself, use EPFO’s separate Know Your Pension Status form with the issued office, office ID and PPO number. These are different checks and use different identifiers.

What the two EPFO enquiries actually check
EPFO provides two different lookups. Choosing the right one avoids entering a PPO number where a Digital Life Certificate (DLC) transaction ID is required.

Jeevan Pramaan Enquiry: the life-certificate lookup
Open the EPFO Pensioners’ Portal and select Jeevan Pramaan Enquiry. The form labels the required field “Jeevan Pramaan ID (As per DLC)”. Enter the ID from the Jeevan Pramaan submission message, receipt or certificate. The enquiry then displays a beneficiary-details area.

The live page confirms the enquiry fields and the beneficiary-details section, but it does not document one universal result phrase such as “accepted,” “approved” or “rejected.” Read the information that is returned rather than assuming that a particular wording will appear on every version of the portal.
Know Your Pension Status: a separate pension-record lookup
Use Know Your Pension Status when your question concerns the pension record rather than the DLC transaction. The current form asks for the issued office, office ID and PPO number, then provides a Get Status control. It is not a substitute for Jeevan Pramaan Enquiry and should not be described as a DLC transaction search.
For example, a pensioner may see a pension-record response through Know Your Pension Status while still needing to verify that a newly submitted life certificate is attached to the correct record. Conversely, a DLC enquiry result does not by itself answer every question about pension payment, office records or the PPO.
Step-by-step: check your DLC in the Pensioners’ Portal
- Find the official Pensioners’ Portal. Start from EPFO’s official website and open the Pensioners’ Portal. Portal labels and page layouts can change; the instructions below use the labels visible on the live service checked on October 13, 2026.
- Choose “Jeevan Pramaan Enquiry.” Do not select Know Your Pension Status for this particular check.
- Locate your Jeevan Pramaan ID. Look at the DLC transaction message, acknowledgement or certificate issued when the life certificate was submitted. The same identifier may be described as the DLC transaction ID. Copy it exactly, including every digit.
- Enter the ID in “Jeevan Pramaan ID (As per DLC).” Use the identifier associated with the certificate you most recently submitted. A PPO number, bank account number or Aadhaar number is not a replacement for this field.
- Submit the enquiry. Use the page’s enquiry or submit control and wait for the beneficiary-details area to load. Avoid opening several old portal links at once, because an older page may have a different layout.
- Review the returned beneficiary details. Match the details with the pensioner and the certificate you submitted. Check the name and other details shown against the acknowledgement you kept. Save or print the result for your records if the page provides that option.
- Keep the original transaction evidence. Retain the message or certificate containing the Jeevan Pramaan ID. You may need the same identifier if you contact EPFO about a result that is missing or unclear.
Use a careful, exact entry. If the message contains spaces, punctuation or a line break, follow the way the portal accepts the identifier rather than adding characters that are not part of the ID. If more than one DLC was submitted, identify the certificate you are trying to trace before starting the enquiry.
How to interpret the result without overclaiming
A DLC moves through more than one point in the process. The certificate can be submitted through a channel, generate a transaction ID and still require EPFO’s record-level verification. Therefore, possession of a receipt proves that a submission was initiated; it does not, by itself, prove that EPFO accepted the certificate.
EPFO’s January 9, 2026 circular describes a successful DLC in the context of its India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) initiative as one that is due, or due within 30 days, and is approved at EPFO. The circular says approval can occur automatically or manually after verification of pensioner details. Those conditions describe that specific initiative; they should not be treated as a complete rule for every DLC submission route.
In practical terms, a useful enquiry result is one that returns beneficiary details corresponding to the pensioner and the DLC transaction being checked. That lets you preserve evidence that the transaction is visible in the EPFO enquiry. It is still safer to quote the exact wording on the page rather than translating every response into a label that EPFO has not published for all versions of the service.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe enquiry page does not publish a guaranteed approval service-level time for an individual pensioner. It also does not establish a single result label that appears in all cases. If beneficiary details are displayed and correspond to the pensioner and certificate, keep that record. If the page gives an ambiguous response, record the exact wording and the date you checked it before seeking assistance.

What to do if the Jeevan Pramaan ID returns no useful result
An empty, unavailable or unclear response is not enough evidence to call the certificate rejected. The official material reviewed for this procedure does not define what an empty result means or set a fixed waiting period after submission. A blank response can require clarification rather than a conclusion about the certificate.
Check the identifier first
- Compare each character with the transaction message or certificate. Avoid typing a PPO number into the Jeevan Pramaan ID field.
- Use the ID for the specific DLC you want to verify, especially if more than one certificate was submitted.
- Retry the enquiry from the current Pensioners’ Portal rather than relying on an old bookmarked page whose fields may have changed.
- Check that you are using the complete ID from the acknowledgement, not a shortened reference copied from a text-message preview.
- If an assisted operator submitted the certificate, ask that operator to confirm the ID recorded on the receipt instead of guessing from the PPO.
Record what the portal shows
Note the date and time, the ID used, and any message shown on screen. A screenshot can help an EPFO representative identify the transaction, but it should not be treated as proof of acceptance unless the portal’s returned beneficiary details support that conclusion. Keep a copy of the original SMS, email, downloaded certificate or paper acknowledgement as well.
Escalate through EPFO’s pension channels
If a correct ID continues to produce no identifiable beneficiary details, use EPFO’s pension enquiry or contact channels. Provide the pensioner’s identifying information, PPO details when requested, the DLC transaction ID and the submission date. Ask the representative to verify whether the transaction is present in the relevant EPFO record.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Do not promise yourself a particular response time: no individual DLC approval deadline is established on the pages used for this check. If you are close to a pensioner’s required annual certificate date, explain that urgency when contacting the official channel and retain the case or enquiry reference if one is issued.
EPFO warns that information displayed on its portal is for information purposes and may change without notice. A later portal display can therefore differ from an earlier screen capture; keep the underlying transaction message as well as any online result.
Checking the pension record separately with PPO details
Some pensioners want to know both whether the life certificate is recorded and whether the pension record itself is active or showing a current status. Perform those checks separately:
- Open Know Your Pension Status on the Pensioners’ Portal.
- Select or enter the issued office.
- Enter the corresponding office ID.
- Enter the PPO number.
- Choose Get Status and review the pension-record response.
A result from this form answers a pension-status question. It does not replace the Jeevan Pramaan Enquiry that uses the DLC transaction ID. If the two pages appear to show different information, save both responses and ask EPFO to reconcile the pension record with the DLC transaction rather than assuming that one page overrides the other.
Where the life certificate may have been submitted
EPFO’s 2023–24 Annual Report lists several submission routes. The route used to submit a DLC does not change the identifier needed for the Jeevan Pramaan Enquiry: keep the transaction ID supplied by that route.

| Submission route | What the route involves | Practical point for later checking |
|---|---|---|
| Online Jeevan Pramaan portal | Digital submission through the Jeevan Pramaan service | Keep the transaction message or certificate containing the Jeevan Pramaan ID. |
| Pension-paying bank | Submission assistance through the bank paying the pension | Ask for the DLC acknowledgement and its transaction ID before leaving. |
| EPFO office | Submission at an EPFO office | Retain any receipt or message that identifies the DLC transaction. |
| Common Service Centre (CSC) | Assisted digital submission | Request the transaction details generated for the certificate. |
| India Post Payments Bank or post office | Submission through the IPPB/post-office channel | Keep the transaction ID supplied after the submission. |
| Doorstep or banking-alliance service | An assisted service arranged through a participating provider | Confirm that the agent gives you a receipt or transaction message. |
| UMANG | Submission through the UMANG route listed by EPFO | Save the digital acknowledgement and Jeevan Pramaan ID. |
EPFO does not establish that every route is available in every locality or that all routes have the same approval timing. Availability can depend on the service, the pensioner’s location and the channel’s operating arrangements. A route listed in the Annual Report is not a promise that a particular branch, post office or agent currently offers it.
When comparing routes, consider four practical questions: can the pensioner complete face authentication on a suitable smartphone; is travel to a bank, EPFO office, CSC or post office manageable; is IPPB doorstep service available for the pensioner’s due or pending certificate and location; and will the operator provide a transaction ID or receipt to keep? These questions affect convenience and traceability, not the identifier used in the later EPFO enquiry.
Do you need a smartphone to check acceptance?
No smartphone purchase is needed for the status enquiry itself. The enquiry uses the Jeevan Pramaan ID from the transaction message or certificate. EPFO describes smartphone Face Authentication Technology as one way to submit a DLC, but submission and later status checking are separate tasks.
For pensioners who cannot use a smartphone or travel to a bank or EPFO office, EPFO describes a free IPPB doorstep service. The January 9, 2026 circular sets conditions for successful DLCs under that initiative, including that the certificate is due or due within 30 days and is approved at EPFO after pensioner-detail verification. The service’s availability depends on the applicable IPPB arrangements and location; it is not a universal statement that every doorstep request will be accepted.
There is no evidence that a biometric reader, printer, special manual or new phone is required merely to perform Jeevan Pramaan Enquiry. If someone offers to sell equipment specifically for this lookup, verify the official procedure first. The important item to preserve is the DLC transaction ID, not a particular device.
Choosing a submission route before the next annual certificate
The status-check procedure is the same regardless of where the DLC was submitted, but the most suitable submission route depends on access and the ability to preserve the transaction evidence.
Use smartphone face authentication when the pensioner can complete it
Face authentication can allow an at-home submission on a suitable smartphone. Before finishing, make sure the service displays or sends a transaction acknowledgement. That ID is what you will later enter in Jeevan Pramaan Enquiry. Confirm the pensioner’s details on the final screen and store the message somewhere it will not be deleted automatically.

Use an assisted location when travel is manageable
A pension-paying bank, EPFO office, CSC or post office can provide an assisted route. Ask the operator to show or provide the DLC transaction ID, and check that the pensioner’s details are entered correctly before the session ends. If the operator gives a paper receipt, photograph it and keep the original.

Consider doorstep assistance when travel or smartphone use is difficult
IPPB’s described doorstep service is intended for pensioners who cannot use a smartphone or travel to a bank or EPFO office. Confirm local availability and retain the acknowledgement. Do not assume that using a doorstep route removes the need for EPFO verification or that every request qualifies under the circular’s due-or-within-30-days condition.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Common mistakes that lead to confusing checks
- Using the PPO number in the wrong form: PPO details belong to Know Your Pension Status; Jeevan Pramaan Enquiry asks for the DLC’s Jeevan Pramaan ID.
- Treating submission as approval: A generated receipt confirms a transaction was initiated, while EPFO approval follows the relevant verification process.
- Expecting a fixed result phrase: The live enquiry page does not document one standard accepted or rejected label for every response.
- Assuming a missing result means rejection: The reviewed EPFO material does not define an empty response or provide a universal waiting period.
- Losing the transaction message: Without the ID, it is harder for EPFO or the submitting channel to locate the DLC. Save the message, certificate and any paper receipt together.
- Assuming all channels work identically: EPFO lists multiple routes, but availability and processing arrangements can differ by route and location.
- Using an outdated link: The portal can change without notice, so begin at EPFO’s current website instead of trusting a forwarded URL.
- Sharing identifiers publicly: A PPO number, Aadhaar details and DLC ID should be given only through an official support channel when requested.
Information to have ready when contacting EPFO
Prepare a concise record before opening a pension enquiry or contacting EPFO:
- The pensioner’s full name as used in the pension record.
- The PPO number and issued-office details, if the support channel requests them.
- The Jeevan Pramaan ID or DLC transaction ID.
- The date and route used for submission.
- A copy of the certificate, acknowledgement or transaction message.
- The exact result or error displayed by Jeevan Pramaan Enquiry, together with the date checked.
- The name of the bank, CSC, post office, EPFO office or other channel used, if an assisted submission was made.
Give only the information requested through EPFO’s official channels. Do not post the full PPO number, Aadhaar details or DLC transaction ID publicly on social media or an open forum. If a representative asks for additional proof, follow the official channel’s instructions and keep a note of what was submitted.
Frequently asked questions
Is a Jeevan Pramaan receipt proof that EPFO accepted my life certificate?
No. It shows that a DLC submission was initiated and provides a transaction ID. EPFO acceptance involves the relevant record-level approval or verification. Use Jeevan Pramaan Enquiry and review the beneficiary details rather than relying only on the receipt.
Which number should I enter to check the DLC?
Enter the Jeevan Pramaan ID (As per DLC), also described as the DLC transaction ID, from the submission message or certificate. Do not substitute the PPO, bank-account or Aadhaar number.
Can I use Know Your Pension Status to confirm the life certificate?
No. That page is a separate pension-record lookup using issued office, office ID and PPO number. Use Jeevan Pramaan Enquiry for the DLC transaction.
How long does EPFO take to accept a DLC?
The official enquiry page and the cited EPFO material do not provide a universal individual approval deadline. Do not infer rejection solely from a new or empty result, and do not promise a fixed waiting period.

Is a smartphone required?
No. A smartphone with face authentication is one submission option, but the later status enquiry only requires access to the portal and the DLC transaction ID. EPFO also describes a free IPPB doorstep route for eligible pensioners who cannot use a smartphone or travel, subject to the applicable initiative and location.
Does every submission route have the same processing time?
EPFO lists online, bank, EPFO office, CSC, post-office or IPPB, doorstep or banking-alliance and UMANG routes, but it does not establish that every route has identical availability or approval timing. Keep the acknowledgement regardless of the route used.
Key takeaways
- For DLC acceptance: use Jeevan Pramaan Enquiry and enter “Jeevan Pramaan ID (As per DLC).”
- For pension-record status: use Know Your Pension Status with issued office, office ID and PPO number.
- For an unclear result: do not infer rejection or promise a processing time; verify the ID, record the response and contact EPFO’s pension channels.
- For future submissions: choose a practical route and preserve the transaction acknowledgement so the certificate can be traced later.
- For equipment: do not buy a smartphone, biometric reader or printer just to perform the enquiry; the transaction ID is the essential item.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a Jeevan Pramaan receipt proof that EPFO accepted my life certificate?
No. It proves that a DLC submission was initiated. Check Jeevan Pramaan Enquiry and the beneficiary details returned for the transaction.

Use the “Jeevan Pramaan ID (As per DLC),” also called the DLC transaction ID, from the submission message or certificate. A PPO number is for the separate pension-status form.
How long does EPFO take to approve a life certificate?
The official pages do not establish a universal individual approval time. Do not treat an empty result as automatic rejection or promise a fixed turnaround.
What should I do if no beneficiary details appear?
Recheck the complete transaction ID, use the current Pensioners’ Portal, record the exact message and date, and contact EPFO’s pension enquiry channels with the transaction evidence.
Do I need a smartphone to check acceptance?
No. A smartphone may be used for face-authentication submission, but the enquiry itself requires the portal and the Jeevan Pramaan ID. EPFO also describes a free IPPB doorstep option for applicable pensioners.
The Bottom Line
To check an EPFO life certificate, open Jeevan Pramaan Enquiry and enter the DLC’s Jeevan Pramaan ID. Use PPO details only in Know Your Pension Status. A receipt is not the same as approval, and an empty result is not proof of rejection; preserve the transaction evidence and contact EPFO if the beneficiary details remain unclear.
