To check whether an AI agent or another app can access your bank account, open your bank’s official app or website and look for connected apps, third-party access, Open Banking, data sharing, or access and consent. Review the provider, the accounts and permissions listed, and the authorization’s duration; revoke anything you do not recognize or want to keep. The exact menu and available controls depend on your bank and country.
An AI label does not change the procedure. What matters is whether the AI service—or an integration it uses—has an active bank authorization, what that authorization permits, and whether you gave it bank credentials instead of approving a limited connection through your bank.

“Access” is not one permission. It can mean that a provider can read selected account information, request a payment, or act under a formal authority granted to a person. Those are different arrangements, and a connected-app list does not mean every listed provider can move money.
A data-sharing connection may let an app retrieve information such as balances or transactions. Payment initiation is a separate capability that can let a provider request a payment. A formal account authority may grant a person broader powers, potentially including transactions or withdrawals. Check the wording in your bank’s permission record rather than inferring the scope from an app’s name or purpose. CommBank, for example, describes formal third-party account authorities separately from app data feeds and explains how to view or remove access in NetBank: Third-party access to accounts.

The same distinction applies to AI tools. The sources available here describe third-party providers generally; they do not establish that every AI agent connects to bank accounts or that AI products share a universal permissions screen. If an AI product can use a bank integration, find the actual provider or integration name in both the bank’s records and the service’s account settings.
How can I check which apps are connected to my bank account?
Start with the bank, not a link in an unexpected message. Banks use different labels and menus, so search the official app or website for permissions and data-sharing terms, then contact the bank through a verified channel if you cannot find the record.

One-click scans. No signup required.
- Open the bank’s official channel. Use its installed app or type the bank’s web address yourself. Do not use a link in a suspicious text, email, or pop-up to check account security.
- Find the permissions area. Search settings, security, privacy, or help for “connected apps,” “third-party access,” “Open Banking connections,” “data sharing,” “authorisations,” or “access and consent.” The bank may use another label.
- Review each provider entry. Note the provider’s name, which accounts are selected, what data it can access, whether it can initiate payments, and any authorization date or expiry shown.
- Identify the kind of access. Check whether the entry describes a data-sharing consent, payment permission, or formal account authority. Do not treat these as interchangeable.
- Investigate entries you do not recognize. Do not approve a new request to “verify” an unfamiliar connection. Use the bank’s own cancellation controls and ask the bank about activity or access you did not authorize.
- Check the service as well. Its connected-account or privacy settings may identify the integration and offer a way to disconnect it. This is useful, but it does not replace checking the bank’s own record.
If the bank does not show a clear path, contact it using the number on your bank card or a contact channel reached through its official website. Avoid relying on contact details in a message about the connection.
What should I look for in a bank permission record?
Read the permission details, not just the provider name. A useful review tells you which company received access, which accounts are covered, what it may do, and how long the authorization remains active.
- Provider identity: Compare the listed name with the service you intentionally connected. An AI product may rely on a separately named integration provider, so look for that provider as well.
- Accounts in scope: Confirm whether access covers one chosen account or several. Do not assume that connecting one account limits the permission to that account unless the record says so.
- Data permissions: Look for the categories of information the provider can retrieve, such as balances or transactions. The bank’s wording is the guide to the actual scope.
- Actions: Check specifically for payment initiation or other transaction authority. A read-only data feed and permission to request payments are materially different.
- Duration: Look for when the consent began and whether it has an end date or expiry. UK Open Banking’s standard says customers should be able to review provider information, permissions, and duration; that standard is not a statement that every bank in every country exposes the same controls. See the Payment Systems Regulator’s Open Banking Standard report.
- Connection method: Determine whether you approved access through a bank sign-in and consent flow or handed your bank login details directly to the provider. The latter is a different and riskier pattern.
Keep a brief record of unfamiliar or unclear entries—the provider name, accounts, permission, and date shown—before contacting the bank. That gives you specific details to ask about without approving another request or guessing what the connection permits.

How do bank-mediated consent and shared-login access differ?
In a bank-mediated consent flow, you authenticate with your bank and approve a described permission. If a service instead asks you to give it your bank username and password directly, it is using a different access pattern that can expose broader access and stored credentials.
| Question | Bank-mediated consent | Shared bank credentials |
|---|---|---|
| Where do you sign in? | You are sent to the bank’s sign-in and approval flow. | You enter bank login details directly into the third-party service. |
| Does the provider receive your bank password? | In the consent-based flow described by Open Banking guidance, the third party should not receive the bank password. | The provider receives the credentials you entered, creating exposure beyond a limited consent. |
| Can you review a specific permission? | The approval flow and bank record can show the provider, scope, and duration; the precise information depends on the bank and connection. | The same bank-mediated permission record may not describe the access. Do not assume a listed consent covers it. |
| Can you find and revoke it through the bank? | The bank may list the consent and provide cancellation controls. | A provider using shared credentials may not appear in the bank’s secure data-sharing list. |
Open Banking Limited explains the consent-based approach in its Open Banking FAQs. Bank of America likewise says its data-sharing list covers providers using its secure data-sharing method; a service that received login credentials may not appear there: Third Party App/Service Data Sharing.
Australia’s ANZ guidance also advises customers not to share passwords, PINs, or one-time payment codes with third-party platforms: What you should know about linking third-party platforms to your bank account. Protections and rules vary by country, so UK Open Banking guidance should not be treated as a universal description of every bank’s process.
How do I remove access I no longer want?
Use the bank’s own revocation or cancellation control for the permission, then check the provider’s settings if you also want to disconnect the service there. Removing access at the bank can stop further sharing under that consent, but it may not erase information the provider already received.
- Open the bank’s official app or website and return to the connected-app, data-sharing, Open Banking, or third-party-access list.
- Select the provider or authority you want to end and read the bank’s description of what cancellation will affect.
- Use the bank’s revoke, cancel, or remove control. If the control is unavailable or the entry is unclear, contact the bank through its official channel rather than approving a replacement request.
- Check for a confirmation. Record what the bank says has been cancelled and whether the change takes effect immediately or follows another process.
- Disconnect the account in the provider’s settings if that option is available and you no longer want the service linked.
- Request deletion from the provider if needed. Revocation addresses future access under the permission; it does not necessarily delete a copy of data already received.
Controls differ between institutions. HSBC UK says customers can cancel a relevant connection under “Open Banking Connections” in mobile or online banking, with immediate effect, and says cancellation can also be requested from the third party: Open Banking Frequently Asked Questions. Griffin’s UK documentation gives a different example: open the app, go to Settings, then “Third party apps,” review the list, and revoke a provider: Integrate with open banking. These are examples for those services, not universal instructions.

BNZ says customers can view, remove, or restore third-party connections in its app or Internet Banking: Open banking. A restore option at one bank does not mean every bank offers one, or that restoring a connection is appropriate; check what would be re-enabled before using such a control.
What if I do not recognize a provider or cannot find it in the bank’s list?
Do not assume the list is exhaustive or that an unfamiliar name proves fraud. Check the bank’s explanation of what its list covers, compare the name with the services and integrations you use, and ask the bank to identify an unexplained connection.
Some dashboards show only a particular kind of connection. Bank of America says its list covers providers using its secure data-sharing method; a provider that received shared login credentials may not yet use that protocol and may therefore be absent. The absence of a provider from that list is not proof that it never received account access.
Use these checks to narrow down the issue:
- Look at the connected-account or privacy area in the app you suspect, including any integration or linked-service name.
- Check whether the bank has separate records for data-sharing consents and formal authorities. CommBank’s guidance illustrates that an account authority and an app data feed are different kinds of access.
- Ask the bank whether its dashboard includes the connection type you are concerned about and how to revoke it.
- If you did not authorize the activity, contact the bank through a verified channel and ask it to review the account.
UK Open Banking guidance says regulated providers are enrolled in its directory and points customers to the FCA or relevant regulator registers. That is useful context when checking a UK provider, but it should not be read as a global directory or as confirmation that a provider is approved for every bank or country. See Open Banking Limited’s FAQs.

Treat direct credential sharing differently from revoking a normal data-sharing consent. Change your bank password, review multifactor authentication and account alerts, and contact the bank about the exposure or any activity you do not recognize.

- Change the bank password using the bank’s official app or website—not a link supplied by the third party or an unexpected message.
- Review multifactor authentication and alerts in the bank’s settings. Follow the bank’s guidance if you need to secure or reset an authentication method.
- Contact the bank promptly through the number on your card or its official website. Explain what information you shared and when, and ask whether it recommends additional account safeguards.
- Review recent account activity and report payments or changes you did not authorize to the bank.
- Remove any available connection or authority through the bank, and separately ask the provider to delete stored information if that is your concern.
Bank of America recommends changing the bank password when credentials have been shared. ANZ warns against sharing passwords, PINs, and one-time payment codes. A one-time code can be sensitive even though it is temporary, so do not give another party a code intended for your bank sign-in or payment approval.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How does this apply if the service calls itself an AI agent?
Follow the same account-control steps as for any third-party app, but identify the actual integration that connects to the bank. The term “AI agent” by itself does not tell you whether the product has bank access, what it can read, or whether it can request payments.
Check the AI product’s linked-account or integration settings for the provider name, then look for that name in the bank’s permissions area. If an AI tool operates through a separate financial-data provider, the bank may list that provider rather than the AI product’s consumer-facing name. The bank’s record and the service’s settings answer different questions: the bank shows the authorization it recognizes, while the service may show how the connection is used within its product.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →If you find no entry, do not treat that alone as proof of no access. The connection may use a different provider name or method, and some bank lists are limited to a particular secure data-sharing protocol. Ask the bank and service to clarify the connection method, what data or actions it permits, and how to end it before granting new access.
What does a safer connection process look like?
A safer process makes the provider and permission visible before you approve access and lets you authenticate through the bank rather than handing your login details to another service. Before confirming a connection, pause long enough to check the details the bank presents.

Open Banking protections and directory rules are jurisdiction-specific. For UK connections, Open Banking Limited’s FAQ describes the customer-facing consent model and provider directory; in Australia, ANZ’s guidance covers local considerations. For other countries, use the bank’s own terms and the relevant local regulator’s information rather than assuming those protections apply unchanged.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will revoking a bank connection delete the app’s old transaction data?
Not necessarily. Kiwibank says revoking data sharing does not necessarily remove information already shared, so contact the provider and request deletion if that matters: Kiwibank’s data-sharing guidance.
Can I approve an unfamiliar connection just to see what it is?
No. An approval can create the access you are trying to identify. Ask the bank or the service through an independently verified contact channel to explain the provider and permission before authorizing anything.
Does a bank’s connected-app list show every company that has ever seen my data?
A list may cover only certain connection methods and current permissions, not every historical copy of information. Ask the bank what its list includes, and ask the provider about data it already received.
Are UK Open Banking protections the same in every country?
No. The cited Open Banking standard and directory guidance are UK-specific, while ANZ’s material addresses Australia. Check your own bank’s terms and your local regulator for the rules that apply where your account is held.
