Check an Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) appeal first on the official ITAT Case Status page. Choose Appeal Number, Date of Filing, Assessee Name, or Acknowledgement Number, then select the bench and appeal type, enter the requested details, solve the captcha, and submit. Use the separate e-Filing Appeal Dashboard for e-filed documents, defects, rectification and petitions; use Tribunal Orders when you are specifically looking for a published order.
Which ITAT status tool should you use?
ITAT provides several related searches. The right one depends on the information you have and what you need to verify.

| What you need to know | Official tool | What it is for | Information normally required |
|---|---|---|---|
| Whether an appeal appears in the Tribunal’s case records | Case Status | Public case-status search | One of four routes—appeal number, filing date, assessee name, or acknowledgement number—plus bench, appeal type and captcha |
| Details of an e-filed appeal, defects, or filings | e-Filing portal and Appeal Dashboard | View e-filing details, rectify defects, and file documents or petitions | Dashboard credentials or OTP/PVC, case identifiers and registered contact details |
| Status of an e-filing submission | “Know Your e-Filing status” described in the ITAT E-Filing FAQs dated 24 June 2021 | Submission-status lookup described by the Tribunal’s FAQ | PAN, email ID and acknowledgement number |
| Whether an order has been published | Tribunal Orders | Searches available orders | Appeal number or order date |
A case-status result and a published-order result are not the same thing. An appeal can appear in case records without the order you want being available in the orders search.
How to check an appeal on the public Case Status page
- Open the official page. Go to itat.gov.in/judicial/casestatus. Avoid relying on an old bookmark if the site has changed its navigation.
- Select the search route. The live form offers Appeal Number, Date of Filing, Assessee Name and Acknowledgement Number.
- Choose the bench. Select the ITAT bench connected with the appeal. A number without the correct bench may not return the expected record.
- Choose the appeal type. Select the type shown on your filing acknowledgement or case papers. Do not substitute a different category simply because it looks similar.
- Enter the identifier or date. Provide the appeal number, filing date, assessee name or acknowledgement number requested by the selected route. Preserve the spelling, punctuation and number format used in the official filing.
- Complete the captcha. The public form uses a captcha. If the characters are difficult to read, use the page’s refresh or reload control and enter the new image rather than repeatedly submitting the old one.
- Submit and read the returned record. Check that the returned bench, appeal type, parties and identifiers correspond to your matter. Save or print the result with the date you checked it.
Choosing the most reliable search route
- Appeal Number: usually the most specific route when the number, bench and appeal type are known.
- Acknowledgement Number: useful when you have the e-filing acknowledgement but not the final appeal-number format shown in a case record.
- Date of Filing: practical when you know when the matter was submitted but do not yet have a confirmed appeal number. Select the correct bench and appeal type to narrow the search.
- Assessee Name: useful when the name is available but a number is not. Try the spelling used in the filing and review results carefully for similarly named assessees.
The page requires both a bench and an appeal type for the search. Keep the filing acknowledgement, notice, or other Tribunal correspondence beside you while entering these fields.
#1 Best Overall
What to have ready before searching
Gather the exact details from the acknowledgement or Tribunal correspondence:
- appeal number, if assigned;
- acknowledgement number from the e-filing submission;
- the filing date;
- assessee’s name as filed;
- the relevant ITAT bench;
- the appeal type; and
- the email address and mobile number registered for e-filing if you will use the dashboard.
Keep a simple record of the date searched, route used, bench, appeal type and result. This prevents confusion when a later search uses a different identifier or when you need to describe a portal problem to the bench.
Using the e-Filing Appeal Dashboard
The public Case Status page is for a case-record search. If your matter was e-filed and you need filing-level information or want to take an action, use the ITAT e-Filing portal. The portal directs users to the Appeal Dashboard to view e-filing details, rectify defects, or file documents and petitions.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Open the ITAT e-Filing home page.
- Open Appeal Dashboard. The portal indicates that dashboard access may use a password or OTP/PVC.
- If the portal takes you to the dedicated login, the official Appeal Dashboard login asks for the appeal type, appeal number, bench code and filing year.
- Select your role and enter the registered email address and mobile number, then complete the captcha.
- After authentication, review the e-filing details and look for any defect, document or petition action relevant to the matter. Follow the current on-screen instructions for submitting or rectifying material.
Have the bench code and filing year available in addition to the ordinary appeal identifiers. A mismatch in any of these fields can prevent a dashboard login even when the underlying case number is correct.
Password, OTP and PVC access
The live e-Filing portal warns that OTP delivery can be delayed by network traffic. It also allows users to prevalidate their email and mobile details and use a Pre-Validation Code (PVC) instead of an OTP. The portal describes a PVC as valid for one month from generation.

- Check that the email address and mobile number are the ones registered for the e-filing account.
- Allow for network-related delivery delay before requesting repeated codes.
- If available on the portal, prevalidate the contact details and generate a PVC.
- Use the PVC within its stated one-month validity period; generate a new one after it expires.
Checking the status of an e-filed submission
The Tribunal’s E-Filing FAQs, dated 24 June 2021, describe a separate “Know Your e-Filing status” function. That FAQ says the lookup uses your PAN, email ID and acknowledgement number.
- Start from the current ITAT e-Filing portal rather than an unverified third-party link.
- Locate the current menu item corresponding to “Know Your e-Filing status.”
- Enter the PAN, email ID and acknowledgement number associated with the submission.
- Submit the request and compare the result with the acknowledgement and the details shown in the Appeal Dashboard, if you can log in there.
The FAQ is an older document, so the exact menu wording or screen layout may have changed. The identifiers it describes remain useful for locating the function, but follow the labels and instructions on the live portal if they differ.

1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteHow to look for an ITAT order
If your question is “Has the Tribunal published an order?”, go directly to the Tribunal Orders page. It provides searches by appeal number or order date.
- Open the Tribunal Orders page.
- Choose appeal number or order date.
- Enter the matching value and submit the search.
- Confirm that the order belongs to the same bench, appeal and parties before relying on it.
Do not treat an empty order search as proof that an appeal does not exist. The orders page and the public Case Status page serve different purposes, and an order may not yet be listed even when the case is present in the case-status records.
How to interpret a search result
Use the result as a record-location tool, not as a prediction of what will happen in the appeal. First match the bench, appeal type, appeal number or acknowledgement number and assessee name against your own papers. If several records appear for a similar name, compare every available identifier before saving a copy. A result that does not match your filing may belong to another assessee or another proceeding.

Keep separate notes for three events: the original e-filing acknowledgement, the appearance of the matter in public Case Status, and publication of an order. These events are checked through different pages and may not occur in the same search. If you need to explain a discrepancy, recording the exact page, search route and date is more useful than simply noting that “the portal was checked.”

| Your situation | First action | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You have a final appeal number and know the bench | Use Case Status by Appeal Number | This is the most specific public search when the identifiers are confirmed. |
| You only have the e-filing acknowledgement | Try Case Status by Acknowledgement Number, then the e-Filing status function | The acknowledgement can connect the filing to the public record and submission-status lookup. |
| You know when the filing was made but no number was assigned | Use Case Status by Date of Filing | Bench and appeal type narrow the date-based results. |
| You need to correct a defect or upload a petition | Sign in to Appeal Dashboard | The dashboard is intended for e-filing details and related actions, not merely a public record search. |
| You are looking for the judgment document | Use Tribunal Orders | That page searches published orders by appeal number or order date. |
What to do when no result appears
Recheck the search inputs
- Confirm that the selected bench is the one shown on the acknowledgement or correspondence.
- Try the exact appeal type used in the filing.
- Remove accidental spaces and check every digit in the appeal or acknowledgement number.
- For a name search, use the assessee’s filed spelling and inspect all returned records for the correct matter.
- If searching by date, verify the date format expected by the page and use the filing date rather than a later notice or hearing date.
Try another official route
If you have an acknowledgement number, try it on the Case Status page even if an appeal-number search failed. If the matter is e-filed, check the Appeal Dashboard. If you are looking for a decision document, use Tribunal Orders rather than repeating a case-status search.
Distinguish a technical failure from an absent record
A captcha error, login failure or OTP delay is a portal-access problem, not evidence that the appeal is missing. Refresh the captcha, check the registered contact details, allow for OTP network delay, or use the PVC option described by the portal. Record the exact error and the time it occurred.
Whom to contact if the portal does not resolve the question
For a question about an already e-filed appeal or application, the ITAT FAQ advises contacting the relevant bench. Use the bench email address published in the FAQ’s official bench list; do not guess an address from an internet search or from another bench.
For technical difficulty with the e-Filing portal, the official ITAT e-Filing Help page lists [email protected] and [email protected].

Include enough information for the support team to identify the problem, without sending unnecessary sensitive documents:
- your name and role in the appeal;
- appeal number or acknowledgement number;
- bench, appeal type and filing year;
- the portal page and search route used;
- the date and time of the attempt;
- the exact error message; and
- whether you were using a password, OTP or PVC.
For bench-specific correspondence, follow the contact instructions in the official FAQ and the current Tribunal website. Keep copies of emails and any automated acknowledgements.
Security and record-keeping precautions
- Use the official itat.gov.in pages linked above and check the address bar before entering PAN, contact details or login information.
- Do not share an OTP, password or PVC with anyone claiming to “check” the appeal for you.
- Do not email a complete PAN or other confidential material unless the official contact specifically requires it and you understand the transmission instructions.
- Save the acknowledgement number, appeal number, bench, appeal type and filing year in one secure record.
- When a result is important, save a PDF or screenshot that includes the page date or your contemporaneous search note.
Current notices and changing portal labels
Portal menus can change. The FAQ describing the e-filing status lookup is dated 24 June 2021, while the Tribunal’s live pages are the best guide to current labels and login steps. The ITAT What’s New page showed a Practice Note dated 30 September 2026, uploaded 7 October 2026. Check current official notices when a procedural detail, filing requirement or portal instruction matters to your case.
No official source cited here supplies a guaranteed processing time, success rate or decision date. A status search tells you what the portal currently displays; it does not predict the outcome on the merits of the tax appeal.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I check an ITAT appeal without an appeal number?
Yes. The public Case Status page also offers searches by date of filing, assessee name and acknowledgement number. You still need the relevant bench, appeal type and captcha.

- Comes with secure packaging
- Helpful in various ways
How do I track an ITAT appeal using an acknowledgement number?
Open the official Case Status page, choose Acknowledgement Number, select the bench and appeal type, enter the number and complete the captcha. For an e-filing submission lookup, the FAQ-described function uses PAN, email ID and acknowledgement number.
Where can I see defects or file additional documents?
Use the ITAT e-Filing portal’s Appeal Dashboard. It is intended for viewing e-filing details, rectifying defects and filing documents or petitions.
What details are needed for the Appeal Dashboard login?
The dedicated login asks for appeal type, appeal number, bench code, filing year, user role, registered email address, mobile number and captcha. Authentication may use a password or OTP/PVC.
What if my OTP does not arrive?
The portal notes that network traffic can delay OTP delivery. Check the registered contact details, wait before requesting repeatedly, or prevalidate your email and mobile details and use a Pre-Validation Code (PVC), which the portal describes as valid for one month.
How do I find the actual ITAT order?
Use the separate Tribunal Orders page and search by appeal number or order date. An empty order search does not establish that the appeal itself is absent from ITAT records.
Who should I contact about an e-filed appeal?
For an existing appeal or application, use the relevant bench email address listed in the official ITAT FAQ. For technical e-Filing problems, the help page lists [email protected] and [email protected].
Does an online status search show when my appeal will be decided?
No. The official pages provide search and filing information, but they do not supply a guaranteed processing time, success rate or decision date.
