To check a CBI fraud matter online, first determine which court is handling it. Use the official eCourts district or High Court service, entering the 16-character CNR when you have it. Without a CNR, search with the case number and year, party name, advocate, or FIR details. Open the matching case history to see hearings and order links. A court-status result is not the same as a live CBI investigation update: the official services document court records, and no verified public tracker for every pre-court CBI investigation is established.
What an online CBI case search can—and cannot—show
A CBI fraud matter can exist at several stages. Investigators may be examining allegations, a charge sheet may have been filed, a case may be pending before a trial court, or an appeal or related proceeding may be before a High Court or the Supreme Court. The public eCourts services primarily expose the court record: registration details, hearings, case history and orders made available by that court.

That distinction matters. If a search returns no court case, you cannot safely conclude that the CBI investigation is closed, inactive or nonexistent. The matter may not yet have been registered in court, may be listed under a different jurisdiction or identifier, or may not be exposed through the particular public service you searched. Conversely, a court listing confirms a judicial proceeding, not every step being taken in the investigation.

- Court status: the procedural record maintained by the relevant district court, High Court or Supreme Court service.
- Investigation status: the CBI’s investigative activity before or alongside court proceedings; a universal public progress tracker was not established in the official material for this guide.
- Order: a judicial document issued in the proceeding. Its legal effect depends on the wording, the court and the surrounding record.
Use an online listing to locate records and dates. For a decision about compliance, arrest, bail, limitation, appeal or any other legal action, have the complete order and case file reviewed by your lawyer or an appropriate legal-aid service.

Choose the correct official portal
The court level and location determine where to start. District and taluka courts use the district case-status service; High Courts use a separate interface. Government listings also point to services for Supreme Court and High Court status.

Start with the court named on a summons, charge sheet, prior order or other official paper. If the document names a court complex, district or High Court bench, select that jurisdiction rather than relying on a broad web search.
Fastest method: search by CNR
The Case Status/Case Number Record (CNR) is normally the most direct route when it appears on a court document. The eCourts CNR service says: “Enter the 16 digit alphanumeric CNR Number without any hyphen or space.” Use the official eCourts CNR search.

- Remove spaces and hyphens. Do not add punctuation or explanatory text.
- Submit the number and review the court, case type, parties and registration details in the result.
- Open the case history and examine the latest listed proceeding and any available order links.
Before relying on a result, compare the displayed parties, court and case number with your own papers. Similar names or multiple proceedings can produce a plausible-looking but incorrect match.
Search a district or taluka case without a CNR
The district and taluka case-status service provides several alternatives. The exact labels or arrangement can change as the portal is updated, but the search is organized around the identifier you possess.
Case number and year
Select the relevant court complex and case type, then enter the case number and year shown on the filing or order. The type and year are required because the same number can recur across different categories or years. If the search returns multiple entries, match the parties and police-station or CBI details before opening the history.

Filing number and year
A filing number may identify a matter before a final case number is assigned or where the filing reference is the number you have. Enter the filing type or related field, the number and the year exactly as recorded. A filing result may not have the same procedural history as a subsequently registered case, so check whether a final case number or CNR is also displayed.
Party-name search
Use the name of an accused, complainant, applicant, respondent or other recorded party. The district instructions call for at least three characters. Try the spelling used in the court document, then broaden or narrow the search if several results appear. Names can be transliterated or abbreviated, so confirm the case number, court and other parties rather than selecting the first match.
Advocate search
If the advocate’s name is on a vakalatnama, order or cause list, use it as the search key. This can return several unrelated matters handled by the same lawyer; filter by court, party and year before opening a case history.
Case type or act/section
Where you do not know the case number, the case-type and act/section filters can narrow a list. A fraud allegation may involve multiple statutory provisions, and a CBI case may be categorized by the court’s case-type code rather than by the everyday word “fraud.” Treat these filters as discovery tools and verify the resulting record against official papers.
FIR number and year
For an FIR-based search, select the police station shown in the record, enter the FIR number and year, and choose pending, disposed or both when you are unsure of the current status. Then inspect each matching case history. This is a court lookup keyed to FIR information; it is not a complete timeline of police or CBI investigative work.

- Confirm identity. Check court complex, case number, CNR, case type, parties and the originating FIR or agency reference where shown.
- Read the status and registration fields. Note whether the portal labels the matter pending or disposed and whether a disposal date appears.
- Review the chronological history. Look for filing, registration, appearance, hearing, adjournment, charge-related and disposal entries. A “next date” is a scheduled listing, not a guarantee that a substantive hearing will occur.
- Open the order or document link. Use the date and description to identify the relevant order. Some entries may have no downloadable document, or the document may be available only through the court’s order-search function.
- Save an accurate copy. Keep the downloaded file with its date, case number and source page. Do not alter the PDF or rename it in a way that removes identifying information.
Portal data can lag a hearing or contain transcription differences. If an order is central to a deadline or legal decision, compare the online copy with the copy supplied by the court, your lawyer or the certified-record process available in that jurisdiction.
Find and download a High Court order
High Court services are separate from district services. Open the High Court eCourts interface, select the relevant High Court and use its case or order-search options.
By case details
Use the CNR or the case details shown on the High Court filing. Confirm the bench, case number, parties and year, then open the history and document links attached to the relevant date.

The High Court service describes order search by case number or order date. If you know when the order was pronounced, search that date and then match the document’s case number and parties. A date-only result can include many matters, so do not download a document until its identity fields match your case.
Verify the downloaded document
- Check that the heading names the expected court and bench.
- Match the case number, CNR, parties and order date with your record.
- Read the operative portion, not only the first page or case title.
- Retain the original file and the URL or portal path used to obtain it.
When the case is before the Supreme Court
For a Supreme Court proceeding, use the government-listed Supreme Court and High Court case-status service or the court’s current official service reached from that listing. The government description identifies searches by case number and by petitioner, respondent or advocate. Enter the identifier exactly as it appears in the Supreme Court papers, then verify the parties and listing date before opening an order.
A Supreme Court appeal or special-leave matter can coexist with the original district or High Court case. Search the higher-court record for the appeal’s orders and the lower-court service for the underlying proceeding; neither record automatically replaces the other.

What to do when no result appears
A failed search is a troubleshooting signal, not a conclusion about the CBI matter.
- Recheck the identifier: compare every character of the CNR, case number, filing number and FIR number with the source document.
- Try the correct year: a filing year, registration year and FIR year may differ.
- Check jurisdiction: switch between the district or taluka court, the relevant High Court and, where applicable, the Supreme Court service.
- Check the court complex or bench: a district may have more than one complex, and a High Court may have multiple benches.
- Vary the name carefully: use at least three characters for party-name search and test the spelling used in the order.
- Use both pending and disposed: a disposed filter can hide an older case if you search only pending matters.
- Allow for registration timing: a filing or investigation may not yet have become a public court case.
- Ask for the authoritative record: if the issue affects a hearing, deadline or liberty, contact your advocate or the court’s filing/record office rather than relying on repeated portal searches.
Do not report that the CBI has dropped a case, that no FIR exists or that an accused has been cleared solely because an online query produced no match. The available services cannot establish those conclusions from an empty result.
Understanding common status situations
Pending
“Pending” generally indicates that the court proceeding has not been marked disposed in that service. It does not describe the CBI’s current investigative workload or predict the result.
Disposed
“Disposed” indicates a court-record outcome or closure entry. Read the associated order to determine whether the matter ended by judgment, withdrawal, transfer, settlement where legally applicable, dismissal or another procedural route. The label alone does not explain the legal effect.
Next hearing date
A listed date is an administrative scheduling entry. Hearings can be adjourned, preponed, taken up for a different purpose or omitted from a later update. Check the subsequent history and order rather than treating the date as a completed event.

Some history entries do not contain a public PDF. Record the date and description, then seek the order from counsel, the court record section or the procedure provided by that court. Do not substitute an unrelated order merely because its date is similar.

Practical record-keeping for a fraud case
Create a simple chronology with the CNR or case number, court, FIR reference, hearing date, event description and order filename. Keep the untouched downloads and note when each portal search was made. This helps distinguish a newly uploaded order from an older document and gives your lawyer a consistent set of references.
Use only official court services for status and orders. Search-engine snippets, social-media posts and third-party summaries can be incomplete, stale or attached to a different case with a similar name. The official portal is a record-access tool, not legal advice or a substitute for reading the complete case file.
Can you track a CBI investigation before it reaches court?
The official material reviewed for this guide does not establish a public, universal CBI tracker showing every pre-court investigation stage. An eCourts search becomes useful when a court proceeding has been filed and exposed through the relevant court service. Before that point, rely on notices, correspondence or other official documents you have received, and ask your lawyer how to obtain an authoritative update.

Do not infer investigative status from a court portal’s silence. A missing entry may reflect timing, jurisdiction, a different identifier or the absence of a registered court case, rather than closure or inactivity.
When professional help is necessary
Online records tell you what the service displays; they do not interpret an order or calculate the consequences of a procedural event. Get case-specific advice if you need to respond to a summons, understand bail or custody conditions, meet an appeal or compliance deadline, challenge an order, or determine whether a CBI filing affects another proceeding. Give counsel the complete PDF, the case-history page and the identifiers used in your search so the advice is based on the same record.
