Use a web browser to change a Netflix profile’s maturity rating: sign in, open Account > Profiles > Adjust parental controls, choose the profile, verify your identity, select a maturity level, and choose Save. The browser route is the dependable option because Netflix does not allow maturity-rating edits from a TV or streaming device.
For tighter control, add title-specific blocks or protect the profile with a four-digit Profile Lock PIN. These controls solve different problems: the maturity setting limits the overall catalog, title restrictions remove particular shows or movies, and the PIN prevents someone from entering the profile.

What a Netflix maturity rating controls
A maturity rating is a ceiling for one profile. Netflix states that a profile will see shows, movies, and games with a rating at or below the level selected for that profile. Raising or lowering the setting changes the broad range of content available when that profile is browsing or searching; it does not change the settings of other profiles on the account.

A rating determines what content the profile can see, while a lock controls who can open the profile in the first place. If another household member can freely switch into an unrestricted profile, changing the rating on a child’s profile alone will not prevent access to that other profile.

Change a profile’s maturity rating in a web browser
Netflix’s account page is the cross-device method for changing maturity ratings. Use a phone, tablet, or computer browser rather than the Netflix app on a television or streaming player.
- Sign in to Netflix. Open Netflix in your browser and sign in to the account that owns the profile.
- Open Account. Select your profile icon or account menu, then choose Account.
- Open the parental-control settings. In the Profiles area, select Adjust parental controls.
- Choose the profile. Select the profile whose viewing range you want to change. The setting applies only to that profile.
- Verify your identity. Netflix may request a code sent by email or text message, or the Netflix account password. Complete the requested verification before editing the controls.
- Set the maturity level. Under Maturity Rating, select the level you want Netflix to allow for this profile. The available labels and levels are the ones Netflix displays for your account.
- Save. Choose Save to apply the change.
The selected level is an upper limit, not a recommendation list. Content at lower ratings remains within the permitted range, while content above the selected level is excluded from that profile’s normal browsing and playback options.
Change restrictions from the Android, iPhone, or iPad app
The Netflix mobile app can expose the same profile controls, although the path differs from the browser account page.

- Tap the profile name to open the profile menu.
- Choose Manage Profiles.
- Select the profile you want to edit.
- Open Viewing Restrictions, then choose Maturity Rating.
- Complete the identity check Netflix presents, using the requested code or account password.
- Select the desired level and save the change.
Netflix specifically notes that a Kids profile’s maturity-rating changes require a web browser. If the mobile app does not present the setting for a Kids profile, use the browser procedure instead. The same browser route is also the practical fallback when app menus differ by device or app version.
Why the option is missing on a TV
Netflix says maturity-rating changes cannot be made on a TV or streaming device. Television interfaces are intended for playback and browsing, not for this account-level edit. When the setting is absent from a smart-TV, game-console, or streaming-player menu, open Netflix in a browser and use Account > Profiles > Adjust parental controls.

You can still watch on the TV after saving the change. If the TV continues to show the old catalog, refresh the session as described below rather than trying to edit the rating from the television.
Block one show or movie without lowering the whole rating
A maturity rating is broad. If one particular show or movie is the concern, use a title restriction instead of reducing the profile’s entire allowed range.

- Open Netflix’s account controls and go to Profiles > Adjust parental controls.
- Choose the profile.
- Find Title Restrictions.
- Search for the show or movie you want to block.
- Select the matching title and save the restriction.
The blocked title is removed from that profile. This lets you leave other content at the selected maturity level while excluding a specific program.
Mobile-app instructions
- Open My Netflix and tap the profile name.
- Choose Manage Profiles, select the profile, and open Viewing Restrictions.
- Choose Block Titles.
- Search for the show or movie, select it, and save.
Netflix shows only the first 100 blocked titles in the visible list. You can block additional titles beyond that list, but removing one later may require searching for its name rather than selecting it from the displayed history.
Use a Profile Lock PIN to stop profile switching
A maturity setting is effective only when people remain in the restricted profile. A four-digit Profile Lock PIN adds an access barrier so someone cannot simply open that profile or use its downloads without the PIN.

- Sign in to Netflix in a web browser and open Account.
- In Profiles, select the profile you want to protect.
- Choose Profile Lock.
- Verify your identity when Netflix requests a code or account password.
- Create and save a four-digit PIN.
Netflix requires the PIN to open the protected profile and to play downloads from it. Keep the PIN separate from the device’s unlock code and do not store it where the person you are restricting can easily find it.

These controls can be combined. For example, set a maturity ceiling, block a title that still falls within that ceiling, and add a Profile Lock PIN so the viewer cannot bypass those settings by opening another profile.
Refresh devices after saving a change
A device that was already signed in may not display the new restrictions immediately. Netflix advises switching to another profile and back again, or signing out and signing in again, to refresh the device. Start with the profile switch because it is quicker; use a full sign-out when the old catalog or profile behavior persists.
- Save the setting in the browser or mobile controls.
- On the affected device, switch to another profile and then return to the edited profile.
- Check whether the restricted title or content range has updated.
- If it has not, sign out of Netflix on that device, sign back in, and select the edited profile.
Check the profile name before testing. A correct change on one profile will not alter what another profile can see.
Kids profiles and other special cases
Kids profile
Netflix requires a web browser for maturity-rating edits on a Kids profile. Use the browser account page even if you normally manage that profile from the mobile app. Title blocking is also available through the account controls; if the app does not expose the option, use the browser route.

Several profiles on one account
Every profile has its own maturity setting, title restrictions, and optional lock. Repeat the procedure for each profile that needs a different range. Editing one profile does not copy the setting to the others.
Downloads
A Profile Lock PIN is also required to play downloads from the protected profile. This matters when a device is used offline, because the profile lock still controls access to those saved programs.

The maturity-rating control is not visible
Move to a browser and open the account page. Netflix does not provide maturity-rating editing on a TV or streaming device. For a Kids profile, use the browser even when you started in the mobile app.
Netflix asks for verification every time
Identity verification is part of changing parental controls. Complete the emailed or texted code request, or enter the Netflix account password when that is the option shown. Without successful verification, Netflix will not save the new setting.

The old content still appears
Refresh the affected device by switching profiles and returning, then sign out and back in if necessary. Confirm that you are testing the same profile you edited; restrictions are profile-specific.

A blocked title still appears in search
Confirm that the title was selected in Title Restrictions or Block Titles and that the change was saved. Then refresh the device session. Search results can reflect an older session until the profile is reloaded.
Someone can still watch unrestricted content
Check whether that person is switching to another profile. A maturity rating governs only its own profile. Add a Profile Lock PIN to the restricted profile and consider protecting any other profile that provides access to content you intend to limit.
You cannot find an old blocked title to remove
Netflix displays the first 100 blocked titles in the list. If the title is beyond that visible list, search for its name in the title-blocking control and remove it from the search result.
A practical setup for a child’s profile
- Open the browser account page and select the child’s profile under Adjust parental controls.
- Verify your identity and choose the appropriate maturity level shown by Netflix.
- Use Title Restrictions to block any individual show or movie that should not appear.
- Save the changes and refresh the child’s usual devices by switching profiles or signing in again.
- Open Profile Lock for the child’s profile and create a four-digit PIN.
- Test the setup by opening the protected profile without entering the PIN, then confirm that a blocked title is unavailable.
This sequence separates catalog limits from access control: the rating defines the range, title blocks handle exceptions, and the PIN prevents an easy switch into the profile or its downloads.
