Before canceling, gather your records
Have these details ready:
- AppleCare agreement number
- Covered device’s serial number
- Original AppleCare or device receipt
- Apple Account used for purchase
- Name of the company on the receipt or payment statement
Apple specifically recommends having the agreement number, serial number, and original receipt available if you need help. Check your bank or card statement as well: the company that charged you is often the correct company to contact.
Cancel a recurring AppleCare plan billed by Apple
- Open Settings on the covered Apple device.
- Find the recurring AppleCare plan in the Apple Account or subscription area.
- Open the plan and choose the cancellation option, such as Cancel Subscription.
- Confirm the cancellation.
- Save the confirmation screen or email.
Apple’s labels and menu locations can vary by device, operating-system version, region, and purchase method, so there is no single universal Settings path. If the plan does not appear on the device, check Apple Account subscriptions. Apple also lists its Report a Problem portal as an online option where available.

Apple says cancellation through these recurring-plan methods ends coverage immediately. That means canceling is not merely stopping the next renewal: it can remove your ability to make future AppleCare claims. Stopping future billing and receiving money back for an already billed period are separate questions; any refund for the current billing period depends on the plan terms, timing, location, and billing channel.
Cancel a prepaid or fixed-term AppleCare plan
A prepaid plan may not appear as a normal subscription because it was paid in full rather than renewed monthly or annually.
- Start Apple’s online cancellation process for a plan paid in full.
- Request both cancellation and a refund of the eligible unused portion.
- If the online process is unavailable or requires assistance, contact Apple Support.
- Provide your agreement number, device serial number, and original receipt.
- Ask for a cancellation reference number and retain the correspondence.
Apple’s support flow may require you to sign in and may not display a permanent, device-independent set of instructions. If the plan was purchased through a carrier or reseller, use that seller’s cancellation process instead.
Cancel AppleCare purchased through a carrier or retailer
If a wireless carrier, electronics retailer, device-financing provider, membership program, or other reseller billed you, Apple may not be able to cancel the plan or issue the refund. Apple says recurring coverage purchased through a carrier or reseller should generally be handled by contacting that seller. Fixed-term coverage bought from a network provider or reseller may also require you to contact the provider or reseller, particularly when requesting cancellation soon after purchase.

Check the original receipt, device invoice, confirmation email, membership account, and payment-statement descriptor. When you contact the seller, ask specifically for cancellation and a refund of any eligible unused amount—not merely removal of a device from an account.
How much of a refund can you get?
There is no single refund formula for every AppleCare plan. The agreement, plan version, seller, jurisdiction, purchase date, and services used control the result.
Cancellation during the initial period
Under many current U.S. AppleCare+ single-payment terms, canceling within the applicable 30-day period after purchase or receipt of the plan terms—whichever is later—may qualify for a full refund. Apple or the plan administrator may deduct the value of benefits or services already provided. State-specific terms can change the outcome.

Original plan price × percentage of coverage remaining − applicable cancellation fee − value of benefits or services used
Many current North American terms describe a cancellation fee of $25 or 10% of the prorated amount, whichever is less, but this does not automatically apply to every AppleCare product, plan, state, country, reseller contract, or legacy agreement.
A prorated refund is therefore not necessarily a simple daily calculation. Repairs, replacements, accidental-damage services, technical support, or other covered benefits can reduce the amount. If the refund is lower than expected, ask for an itemized explanation showing the dates used, services deducted, and cancellation fee applied.

Canceling may not be the best option. Eligible single-pay plans may be transferable once to a new owner, subject to requirements such as transferring the original proof of purchase and plan documents, notifying Apple as instructed, and having the new owner accept the agreement.

- Consider transferring if the buyer values the remaining coverage.
- Request cancellation and a refund if the buyer does not want the plan or transfer is unavailable.
- Do not assume a trade-in cancels AppleCare. Confirm the plan separately.
Do not cancel before completing a desired transfer. Once coverage ends, it may no longer be available to the buyer.

A replacement, return, or exchange can complicate the plan record and refund calculation. AppleCare may remain associated with the original agreement, while the replacement device may have a different coverage record. Do not assume the plan automatically transferred or automatically ended.
Ask Apple to verify the agreement number and covered serial number before canceling. Have documentation for both the original and replacement device available.
What if AppleCare is missing from Subscriptions?
It may be missing because the plan was prepaid, billed by a carrier or reseller, linked to another Apple Account, not linked to the current account, governed by a legacy agreement, expired, or already canceled.

- Check every Apple Account used when purchasing the device or plan.
- Review the original receipt and payment statement.
- Check the device’s coverage information.
- Contact the seller named on the receipt.
- Contact Apple with the agreement number, serial number, and receipt.
Apple says a plan that does not appear in subscriptions may not be linked to your Apple Account. That does not necessarily mean the plan does not exist.
Refund timing and where the money goes
Refunds generally return through the original payment channel, but timing can depend on whether Apple or a reseller processed the request, the payment method, bank or card posting times, and any manual review. AppleCare agreements can include state-specific timing provisions, so do not rely on a universal number of business days.
Keep the cancellation confirmation, monitor the original payment method, and contact the seller with your reference number if the applicable processing window passes. If Apple or the seller denies or underpays the refund, ask for:

- Check whether transfer is preferable if the device changed owners.
- Gather the agreement number, serial number, receipt, and Apple Account details.
- Cancel through the correct channel.
- Ask specifically for any eligible refund.
- Save the confirmation and monitor the original payment method.
