To stop a Roku subscription, first determine who bills it. Roku-billed subscriptions that Roku manages are canceled by signing in to my.roku.com, opening Subscriptions, selecting the service, and choosing Turn off auto-renew. If the service manages its own billing, cancellation must be completed with that provider instead. After every Roku-managed subscription is canceled, you can remove a saved payment method at my.roku.com > Payment methods by opening its three-dot menu and selecting Remove.
Start by finding who controls the billing
The place where you watch a channel is not necessarily the company charging your card. Roku accounts can show subscriptions that fall into different billing arrangements, and the cancellation route depends on that arrangement. Checking the account that receives the charge prevents a common mistake: turning off a Roku setting while the service provider continues to bill you.

Roku lists Disney+, Hulu, Sling TV, and Netflix as examples of services that may be billed by Roku while being managed by the provider. Treat those names as examples, not as a guarantee that every account uses the same arrangement. The subscription details and the charge on your financial statement are the best evidence for your account.

Cancel a subscription that Roku manages
For a subscription listed as Roku-managed, the key action is turning off auto-renew rather than looking for an immediate termination button. Roku says the subscription remains active through the end of the billing cycle already paid for.

- Open a current web browser and go to my.roku.com.
- Sign in to the Roku account associated with the charge. If you have more than one Roku account, use the account shown in the subscription or payment details.
- Open Subscriptions.
- Select the service you want to stop.
- Choose Turn off auto-renew and complete any confirmation shown.
- Record the displayed end date or confirmation for your records. Access should continue until the end of the existing billing cycle, but the subscription should not renew afterward.
Turning off auto-renew prevents the next recurring charge; it does not normally create an immediate loss of access. If you cancel near a renewal date, keep the confirmation and check your card or bank statement for the next billing event. A charge that posted before the cancellation took effect can belong to the prior billing period.
What the cancellation does not do
- It does not automatically cancel a separate subscription that the provider bills directly.
- It does not necessarily remove the saved card, bank-linked method, or wallet from your Roku account.
- It does not normally produce a partial-term refund. Roku says partial-term refunds are not provided.
Cancel a provider-managed service
Some subscriptions can be discovered or watched through Roku while the provider controls the subscription. In that situation, Roku is not the place where the recurring contract is ended. Sign in to the service provider’s website or app, open its account or subscription settings, and use that provider’s cancellation control.
This route applies when the service does not appear as a Roku-managed subscription, or when Roku identifies the service as provider-managed. Disney+, Hulu, Sling TV, and Netflix are examples Roku gives for this type of arrangement. The exact menu names, notice period, and access end date are set by the provider, so do not assume that Roku’s end-of-cycle rule or refund policy applies identically.
How to verify that the provider cancellation worked
- Look for an on-screen confirmation or an email from the provider.
- Save the cancellation date and any stated final-access date.
- Check the provider’s account page again to confirm that recurring billing is disabled.
- Review the next card or bank statement for a charge from that provider rather than relying only on the channel disappearing from a Roku device.
If the charge continues and the service never appeared under Roku’s Subscriptions page, contact the provider that appears as the merchant. Roku cannot turn off a subscription that it does not manage.

Free trials require a separate deadline check
A free trial can convert to a paid recurring subscription unless it is canceled before the trial period ends. If Roku manages the trial, use my.roku.com > Subscriptions and choose Turn off auto-renew before the stated trial end. Do not wait for the final day if you can avoid it; leave enough time to sign in, confirm the correct account, and retain the confirmation.
Roku says partial-term refunds are not provided. That means canceling after a paid period begins generally stops the next renewal but does not create a prorated refund for unused days. Any different refund promise must come from the provider that controls the billing.
Remove a saved payment method from Roku
Payment-method deletion is performed on the Roku website, not through a television’s on-screen channel interface. Roku also blocks removal while an active Roku-managed subscription remains on the account.
- Cancel or turn off auto-renew for every active subscription that Roku manages.
- Sign in at my.roku.com using the same Roku account.
- Open Payment methods.
- Find the saved card or other payment method you want to delete.
- Open the three-dot menu beside that method.
- Select Remove and confirm if prompted.
Roku’s stated requirement is: “Before your payment method can be removed, you must cancel or turn off auto-renew for any active subscriptions billed through Roku.” If Remove is unavailable, return to Subscriptions and look for any service whose auto-renew is still on. A provider-managed subscription may need to be canceled with the provider, but the payment-method lock specifically concerns active subscriptions billed through Roku.

What happens after removal
Removing a saved method does not erase a charge that has already been authorized or posted, and it does not cancel a provider-managed subscription. It only removes that method from the Roku account for future use. Keep another way to pay available if you intend to purchase or renew anything later; Roku may require a valid payment method for new transactions.
Why you may still be charged after canceling
“I canceled Roku but I’m still being charged” usually describes one of several different situations. Work through them in order rather than canceling the same screen repeatedly.
The cancellation was completed after the renewal
Turning off auto-renew stops a future renewal, but it does not reverse a billing event that already occurred. Compare the transaction date with the confirmation date and the subscription’s stated end date. The existing paid period can remain active until its scheduled end.

The subscription is managed by the provider
If the service is missing from Roku’s Subscriptions page, inspect the provider account. A charge labeled with the provider’s name generally follows that provider’s cancellation process. Roku’s presence on the television does not establish that Roku is the merchant.

You used a different Roku account
Households sometimes have more than one Roku login. Sign out and check the account associated with the payment details or the original subscription confirmation. Looking at an empty Subscriptions page in the wrong account will not stop a charge attached to another account.
The charge is for a different service or transaction
Compare the merchant description, amount, and date on your statement with the services listed in both Roku and provider accounts. A one-time purchase, a different subscription, or a household member’s account can produce a charge that is unrelated to the cancellation you just completed.
The cancellation did not finish
A page that was closed before the confirmation step may leave auto-renew enabled. Reopen the subscription, check its current renewal status, and save the confirmation after selecting Turn off auto-renew. If the account page continues to show an active renewal despite a completed confirmation, use Roku’s account-support process and provide the confirmation details.

The most important cause is an active Roku-managed subscription. Roku requires those subscriptions to be canceled or placed into a non-renewing state before the payment method can be deleted. Check every item in Subscriptions, not only the service connected to the most recent charge.

If no active Roku-managed subscription is visible, use a current browser, sign in again, and open Payment methods directly. Roku recommends checking the account’s payment details and using a current browser when managing payment methods. Browser-session problems can hide controls even after the account requirement has been met.
A subscription that is managed by a provider may not appear in Roku’s list. Cancel that subscription with the provider, then recheck Roku for any separate Roku-managed services. The payment-method removal control becomes relevant only after the Roku-managed requirement is satisfied.
Roku purchase protection and accepted U.S. payment methods
Roku recommends setting a purchase PIN. A PIN adds a confirmation step for purchases and subscriptions made through the Roku account, which can help prevent accidental enrollments after you have removed an unwanted service. A PIN does not replace cancellation and does not stop a provider from billing an account it controls.
Roku says accepted payment methods in the United States include cards, Apple Pay, PayPal, Cash App Pay, and qualifying prepaid gift cards. Availability can depend on the account, transaction, and region. Removing one saved method does not imply that every listed method is available for every purchase or that a provider-managed subscription can be paid through Roku.
A practical account-audit sequence
Use this sequence when you want to stop all Roku-related recurring charges and then delete the stored payment method.
- Gather the latest statement and write down each merchant name, amount, and transaction date.
- Sign in to the Roku account you believe is being charged and review Subscriptions.
- For every Roku-managed service, select the service and choose Turn off auto-renew.
- For any charge not represented there, open the corresponding provider account and cancel it through the provider.
- Save each confirmation and note the final access date shown by the relevant billing party.
- After all Roku-managed renewals are off, open Payment methods on my.roku.com.
- Use the three-dot menu beside the saved method and select Remove.
- Recheck the next statement. If a charge remains, match its merchant to the Roku or provider account rather than assuming it is a Roku-managed renewal.

What to keep for your records
- The Roku account email or login used for the cancellation.
- The service name and whether Roku or the provider managed it.
- The date and time auto-renew was turned off.
- The stated final-access date.
- The confirmation email, screenshot, or account-status page.
- The merchant descriptor and amount from the next statement.
These records make it easier to distinguish a valid final-period charge from a renewal that should not have occurred, and they give Roku or the provider the information needed to investigate a disputed transaction.
