Hasbro’s October 8, 2026 notice gives 587 employees in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, a stark choice: accept a transfer to the company’s Boston Seaport offices or lose their jobs. Their final scheduled workday in Pawtucket is December 24, 2026; employees who accept the transfer are scheduled to begin in Boston on January 4, 2027.
Hasbro says the notice is a formal step in a relocation announced in 2025. The company has not disclosed how many of the affected workers will accept the transfer, nor has it published individual commuting, relocation-assistance, severance or tax terms.

Federal WARN rules generally involve at least 60 days’ notice for qualifying mass layoffs or facility closings; the October 8 notice provides more than that period before the stated December 24 end date.

Why Hasbro is moving its headquarters to Boston
Hasbro announced the relocation on September 8, 2025. The Boston Seaport location is intended to bring together teams working on toys, board games, licensing and most corporate services. Hasbro said the move should improve collaboration and innovation, help recruit talent and support long-term growth.

The company expected at least 700 full-time employees to transition to Boston by the end of 2026. The new offices at 400 Summer Street are planned to occupy 265,000 square feet over seven floors.
Hasbro spokesperson Abby Hodes said, “We know any change in commute matters to our people, so we’ve been working closely with them throughout the transition.” She also said the company looks forward to beginning the year in its new location.

Commuting and relocation costs
The notice turns the location decision into an employment decision for covered workers. A Pawtucket employee who accepts may face a longer or more expensive commute, a move to the Boston area, or both. The reports do not state whether Hasbro will reimburse transportation, provide relocation assistance, pay moving expenses or adjust compensation.
Before accepting, employees should request the written terms and calculate the recurring cost of the new work location: transportation, parking, tolls, travel time, child-care timing and any required change in housing. Those costs can materially change take-home value even if salary stays the same.

Job-loss timing
For an employee who declines, the reported employment end date is December 24, 2026. The available reports do not specify severance, continued benefits, outplacement support or eligibility details for individual workers. Employees should obtain those terms directly from Hasbro’s human-resources team and, where appropriate, from Rhode Island or Massachusetts labor agencies.
Questions to get answered in writing
- Is the Boston position identical in title, pay, bonus eligibility, benefits and working hours?
- What is the required in-office schedule at 400 Summer Street?
- Are commuting, parking, rail, toll or relocation costs covered, and for how long?
- What happens to accrued vacation, retirement contributions, health coverage and other benefits if a worker declines?
- When would any severance or final paycheck be paid?
- Can an employee accept the transfer and later withdraw, and what deadline applies?
What will happen to the Pawtucket headquarters?
Hasbro has slated the Pawtucket headquarters for sale after the transition. The property includes a 343,000-square-foot main building and an adjacent 23,000-square-foot building, according to a Hasbro securities filing reported by Boston.com.

The sale plan means the move is more than a temporary office consolidation. Once the transition is complete, the company’s principal Pawtucket facilities are expected to leave Hasbro’s operating footprint, although the timing and buyer have not been reported.

Hasbro’s move affects a company with deep local roots. At the time the relocation was announced, Hasbro had about 1,000 Rhode Island employees and approximately 4,500 employees worldwide, according to Rhode Island Current.
Pawtucket Mayor Don Grebien said, “Hasbro has an obligation to engage with the community that has supported it for generations.” The concerns include the loss of a major employer, the effect on nearby businesses and the future use of the headquarters property.
Hasbro has said it will continue annual support for Hasbro Children’s Hospital and recruit from Rhode Island colleges, indicating that some state ties are intended to continue even after headquarters operations move to Boston.
What is still unknown
- How many of the 587 covered employees will accept the Boston transfer.
- The salary, benefits and work-schedule terms attached to each transfer.
- Whether Hasbro will provide relocation assistance, commuting subsidies or severance.
- The buyer, sale price and final timing for the Pawtucket properties.
- How the move will affect other Rhode Island roles not included in the October 8 notice.
For now, the reported decision deadline is defined by the employment consequence rather than a published election date: accepting the transfer preserves a scheduled Hasbro role in Boston, while declining it ends the covered Pawtucket employment on December 24, 2026.
