The legal-AI company had announced a $160 million round at an $8 billion valuation in December 2025, making the latest step-up a $3 billion increase in roughly three months. The financing is confirmed; whether Harvey’s growth can ultimately support that private-market price remains an open question.
From February report to March confirmation
On February 9, 2026, TechCrunch reported that Harvey was seeking about $200 million at an $11 billion valuation, citing a Forbes report. The account said Sequoia Capital and Singapore’s GIC were expected to lead; Harvey declined to comment at the time. That was a report about a prospective transaction, not confirmation that the round had closed. TechCrunch’s February report

A private financing valuation is not the same as a publicly traded market capitalization. It is generally inferred from the terms and price of shares sold in that round. Preferred shares can carry rights that differ from common shares, so the headline valuation does not necessarily translate into the same value for employee equity or every other class of ownership.
What Harvey sells and what the new money is for
Founded by Winston Weinberg and Gabe Pereyra, Harvey sells AI software for law firms and corporate legal departments. Its offering spans legal research and analysis, document review, drafting, due diligence and other legal workflows. The company’s positioning has broadened from an AI assistant toward agents that can support multi-step work, with legal-engineering staff helping customers configure and optimize workflows. Harvey said customers were running more than 25,000 custom agents on its platform. The company said it would use the new financing to expand its agent offering and its embedded legal-engineering teams. Those teams add an implementation and workflow-customization component to a business that is also selling software. Harvey’s funding announcement
That product model should not be confused with Harvey owning a frontier foundation model, or with an AI system independently taking over a lawyer’s professional responsibilities. A legal-AI application can combine models supplied by outside providers with software for retrieval, permissions, interfaces, auditability and workflow orchestration. The available financing announcement does not establish that Harvey owns a foundation model. Lawyers still need to review work product and remain responsible for client matters.
What operating evidence is public
TechCrunch reported that CEO Winston Weinberg put Harvey’s annual recurring revenue run rate at approximately $190 million by the end of 2025. The same report said the company had passed $100 million in ARR in August 2025. These are attributed operating figures, not public audited financial statements. TechCrunch’s February coverage

In December 2025 coverage, TechCrunch reported Harvey’s claim that it served 50 of the top 100 AmLaw firms. That signals adoption among large U.S. law firms, but it does not disclose contract values, renewal rates, how intensively each customer uses the product, or whether those accounts are profitable. - A customer count is not a measure of account quality. It does not, by itself, show retention, customer satisfaction, usage, or return on investment.

Why investors may value a legal-AI company so highly
The valuation can be understood as a bet on future growth and workflow adoption, not simply a multiple applied to one reported ARR figure. Several features of legal work could make a specialized application attractive to investors:
- Repeatable, document-heavy work: research, contract review, drafting and due diligence involve substantial information processing and recurring workflows.
- Potentially high value per user: firms and legal departments may pay for software if it saves attorney time or allows teams to handle more work. That value must be demonstrated in actual customer use.
- Enterprise distribution: adoption by well-known firms can provide credibility and reference accounts in a market where confidentiality and reliability matter.
- Workflow integration: software woven into document, research and transaction processes may be more useful—and harder to replace—than a general chatbot used in isolation.
- Agent expectations: investors may be valuing the prospect of automating portions of multi-step legal workflows, rather than only text generation.
- Scarcity and investor signaling: a company with legal-sector distribution, reported revenue and prominent venture backing may attract a premium. Sequoia’s repeated participation signals confidence, but is not proof that the price is justified.
These are plausible explanations for investor interest, not confirmed accounts of how any particular investor calculated the $11 billion figure.

- High-Resilience Molded Foam Seat – Won’t Flatten After 1 Year – Instead of budget foam that hardens and sags within months, the seat is built with high-density, high-resilience molded foam that bounces back day after day. It maintains its shape and cushioning far longer, preventing the “bottoming out” discomfort common at this price point
- Adjustable Lumbar, Not a Fixed Afterthought – Unlike flimsy plastic supports that crack or lose tension, this chair features a durable lumbar mechanism that adjusts depth to match your spine’s natural curve. Genuinely relieves lower back pressure during long sitting sessions
- Breathable Mesh Backrest – No Peeling, No Heat Buildup – Say goodbye to flaking faux leather. The high-tension mesh back promotes continuous airflow, keeping you cool in warm environments and eliminating the mess of peeling upholstery. Mesh holds up significantly better over time and looks professional years later
- Anti-Sink BIFMA Certified Gas Cylinder – A common failure in budget chairs: the pneumatic cylinder loses pressure and slowly sinks during use. Our Class 3 BIFMA-certified gas lift is built to hold its height reliably, so your chair stays exactly where you set it—year after year. No more sudden drops or mid-work adjustments
- Heavy-Duty Metal Core Base (330 lbs Capacity) – Thin plastic bases can crack under stress, especially near the cylinder hub. We use a reinforced nylon base with a metal core, providing the durability and peace of mind you need. Smooth-rolling, 360° silent casters glide across hardwood, tile, or carpet without scratching or catching
The valuation’s risks and unanswered questions
To sustain a higher valuation, Harvey would need to turn fast adoption into durable customer value and attractive business economics. The main questions concern the product, the buyer’s return, and the company’s ability to defend its position:
- Accuracy and citations: AI can generate unsupported or incorrect legal propositions. Lawyers need to check citations against authoritative primary sources and review outputs before relying on them.
- Confidentiality and professional responsibility: firms must assess data retention, model-training restrictions, access controls and subprocessors. Lawyers remain responsible for client confidentiality and their work product.
- Customer economics: a high subscription price only makes sense if usage and measurable time savings or other business benefits justify it. Publicly cited figures do not establish customer ROI.
- Services intensity: embedded legal engineers may help customers adopt the software, while also raising questions about how much growth depends on implementation labor and what that means for margins.
- Dependence on model providers: improvements from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google or other providers could benefit Harvey, but could also narrow the differentiation of application-layer products.
- Competition and market reach: Thomson Reuters, LexisNexis, Microsoft, general-purpose model providers, internal systems and specialists such as Legora can compete through distribution, content or workflow tools. The valuation also assumes Harvey can grow beyond a limited set of large law firms into broader legal work.
- Vendor dependence: customers need to consider pricing changes, integrations, data practices, audit logs, matter-level permissions, and whether workflows and firm knowledge can be transferred if they change vendors.
- Private-market repricing: financing marks can rise quickly in a strong funding market and fall if growth, margins or financing conditions weaken. The $11 billion price is not a guarantee of what a future sale or share transaction would yield.
For a firm evaluating Harvey, relevant diligence includes testing citation quality on its own practice areas, reviewing data and retention terms, checking integrations and administrative controls, measuring usage and savings, and comparing pricing with alternatives. The funding announcement alone does not establish that Harvey is better than those alternatives.
