No—the Google AI Pro student offer is not currently free in India. Google’s India-specific student page says the previous promotion ended on September 30, 2025. Students who find old posts or videos claiming they can still claim a free year should not expect the redemption process to work in 2026.

When did the India promotion end?
Google published more than one date across its official pages:

Who was eligible when the offer was active?
The historical India offer was aimed at students aged 18 or older. Google’s general student-offer requirements also included the following conditions:
- You had to be an eligible higher-education student in a supported region.
- You needed a personal Google Account.
- You had to complete student-status verification, generally through SheerID.
- You needed a Google Payments account and a qualifying payment method.
- The offer was tied to one personal account and was not intended to be shared through a family plan.
Being enrolled in any school or college did not automatically guarantee eligibility. The institution, country, age, account status, campaign availability, and successful verification all mattered.
How the claim process worked in 2025
The following is the historical process documented by Google. It is useful for understanding the old promotion, but a reader in India who follows it now may simply see that the offer has expired.

- Complete SheerID verification. If automated verification failed, Google’s instructions indicated that the student might have to upload proof of enrollment for manual review.
- After verification, select “Get Google AI Pro” or “Get student offer.” The exact button label could vary by page or campaign.
- Add or select a Google Payments payment method and complete the subscription confirmation.
If the current page no longer shows the student-offer button, that is consistent with the India promotion having ended. It is not necessarily a problem with the student’s documents or Google Account.

Why did Google require a payment method for a free offer?
The historical promotion required a payment method even though the promotional year was free. This allowed the subscription to continue under Google’s normal billing system after the free period unless the subscriber canceled.
Before accepting any replacement trial or paid Google AI plan, check:

However, free Gemini access is not equivalent to the expired student Google AI Pro promotion. The old offer bundled premium capabilities and expanded storage for a limited period; ordinary free access has different limits, features, and availability.
Regular Google AI Pro subscriptions
Google AI Pro remains a paid option for eligible users in India. Google’s current India subscription information describes it as an over-18 plan requiring a personal Google Account, with premium Gemini capabilities, Gemini features in Google applications, and expanded cloud storage.
Because plan benefits and prices can change, review the current India subscription page—not an archived student-offer article—before buying. Pay particular attention to the storage amount, included models, usage limits, renewal price, and cancellation terms displayed at checkout.
How to avoid expired-offer and billing mistakes
- Check the country. A student offer shown on a United States or global page may not apply in India.
- Check the date. Articles from July through September 2025 may accurately describe the launch but not current availability.

Your current choices are to use Google’s free Gemini access or compare the ordinary paid Google AI Pro plan on Google’s current India subscription page.
