It has operated for years under the First Prudential Markets name and is associated with regulated entities in jurisdictions including Australia, Cyprus and South Africa. The important qualification is that FP Markets is not one single legal entity for every customer. Your regulator, leverage limit, compensation arrangements and dispute process depend on the company named in your account agreement.
That makes the entity check more important than the brand name. FP Markets can be a competitive choice for experienced traders who want MetaTrader, cTrader or TradingView access and relatively low advertised spreads. It is less suitable for someone looking for guaranteed returns, simple investing or protection from the substantial risks of leveraged CFDs.
Is FP Markets legitimate?
Yes. FP Markets is a genuine brokerage brand rather than an anonymous website taking deposits. Its main operating company in Australia is First Prudential Markets Pty Ltd, which is authorised by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) under Australian Financial Services Licence 286354.
FP Markets also uses separate entities for customers in other regions. Depending on where you live, your account may be opened by a Cyprus-regulated company, a South African entity or an offshore company. Those entities do not provide identical protections.

| What to check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Exact legal entity | Determines which regulator and client agreement apply. |
| Regulator and licence number | Shows whether the company is authorised for the service being offered. |
| Country of residence | Controls available leverage, products and investor protections. |
| Official domain and payment details | Helps distinguish FP Markets from impersonators and clone websites. |
A regulated broker can still lose money for customers, suffer platform outages or receive regulatory criticism. Regulation is evidence that a real company is subject to supervision; it is not a promise that a trading strategy will work.
Which FP Markets entity will hold your account?
FP Markets’ protections depend on the entity onboarding you. The Australian company is supervised by ASIC. European customers may be onboarded by First Prudential Markets Ltd, which operates under Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) authorisation. Customers in South Africa may deal with an FP Markets entity regulated by the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA). Other residents may be directed to an offshore entity, subject to the local rules and eligibility policy in force when they apply.
Do not assume that an offshore account receives the same safeguards as an Australian or European account. In particular, leverage may be higher offshore, compensation schemes may differ, and the procedure for making a complaint may not be the same.
- Open the account only through the official FP Markets website.
- Read the client agreement before depositing funds.
- Find the legal company name, registered address and licence number.
- Search that information in the regulator’s own register—not just on a broker comparison website.
- Confirm that the bank or payment account receiving your deposit belongs to the named company or an approved payment provider.
FP Markets trading accounts
FP Markets commonly offers two core pricing structures, although names, minimum deposits and availability can vary by jurisdiction:

| Account type | Typical pricing model | Who may prefer it |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | No separate forex commission, with the broker’s charge built into a wider spread. | Infrequent traders or people who prefer simpler calculations. |
| Raw | Spreads closer to the underlying market price plus a commission, commonly quoted around US$3 per side per standard lot on some offerings. | Active traders, scalpers and automated strategies comparing all-in costs. |
The headline “from 0.0 pips” figure on a raw-spread account is not the cost of every trade. It is a minimum or near-minimum spread that may occur under favourable conditions. The final cost can include commission, spread widening, swaps, slippage and currency conversion.
Before choosing an account, compare the all-in cost. For a raw account, that means:

- BUILT FOR YOUR MARKET, FUTURES, STOCKS, FOREX, OPTIONS & CRYPTO: 4X is a mindset and process journal, not a strategy tool tied to one instrument. The plan, the trade log, the deep dive and the weekly review work the same whether you trade ES, EURUSD, SPY or BTC. Traders use it across all five markets every day.
- THE 2026 EDITION, REBUILT FROM TRADER FEEDBACK: Same trusted system, better in every way. An extra daily page for more room to log the session. Weekly reviews now grouped with each week's trades, so no more flipping back and forth. Crisp, darker print that's easy on the eyes after hours on a screen. A Quick-Start QR that scans straight to step-by-step instructions.
- NOT A NOTEBOOK, A COMPLETE 12-WEEK SYSTEM: Start with a one-time 9-part Trading Plan (your market, setups, risk rules and discipline checklist). Then twelve identical weeks: five Daily Logs, five Deep Dive trade pages, and a two-page Weekly Review. 189 guided pages, roughly 80 trades. Guided prompts walk you through every step. You never stare at a blank page.
- RATE YOUR EXECUTION, NOT YOUR RESULT: Your platform tracks the P&L. Nothing tracks the why. Log energy, sleep and mindset before the open; grade every trade A to F on whether you followed your plan, not on whether it won; then face the pattern every weekend with START / STOP / IMPROVE / CONTINUE. That review habit is the edge. You're 42% more likely to hit a goal you've written down.
- BUILT TO LAST, ARRIVES GIFT-READY: Vegan-leather hardcover, 100gsm bleed-resistant paper, two ribbon markers and an elastic closure band. Bound to lay flat so you're not fighting the spine while you write. 189 pages, 5.75" x 8.5", carries in a bag. Ships in a premium gift box: the gift every trader in your life actually wants.
spread cost + opening commission + closing commission + overnight financing + conversion charges
A standard account can be cheaper for a small or infrequent trade, while a raw account may be more efficient for high turnover. The answer depends on the instrument, trade size and holding period.
Fees and trading costs
Forex commission and spreads
FP Markets’ raw pricing is designed to offer tight spreads with a separate commission. Standard pricing generally removes the separate commission but widens the spread. Check the schedule attached to your specific entity and platform because the advertised rate may differ by account currency, instrument or customer location.
Swap and overnight financing
Holding a leveraged forex or CFD position past the broker’s daily rollover time can create a swap charge or credit. This can materially change the result of a trade held for several days. A strategy that appears profitable from the entry and exit prices may become unprofitable after financing.
Inactivity and administration charges
Broker fee schedules can include inactivity, conversion, data, payment-provider or corporate-action charges. FP Markets’ terms should be checked before opening an account rather than relying on an old review. Fee pages and account conditions can change, and a fee that does not apply in Australia may apply to an offshore customer.
Deposits and withdrawals
FP Markets generally supports methods such as bank transfer, cards and selected electronic payment services, but the exact options depend on country and entity. The broker may require withdrawals to return to an account in the customer’s own name. That is normal anti-money-laundering practice, not by itself evidence of a scam.
Rank #3
Common causes of withdrawal delays include incomplete identity verification, a name mismatch, a request to withdraw to a third party, pending card refunds, bank compliance checks or missing proof of funds. Keep deposit receipts and use the Client Area to submit a withdrawal request. If a stranger asks for an extra “tax”, “release fee” or “insurance payment” before your balance can be withdrawn, stop communicating and contact FP Markets through the official website.
Platforms: MetaTrader, cTrader and TradingView
FP Markets is known for offering several mainstream trading platforms, including MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5 and cTrader. Some regions and account types may also support TradingView integration. Availability should be confirmed during registration because platform access is not necessarily identical across entities.
MetaTrader is familiar to many forex traders and supports expert advisers, custom indicators and automated trading. MT5 provides additional markets and order features compared with MT4, but an MT4 expert adviser normally cannot simply be installed in MT5 without the appropriate version. cTrader is often preferred by traders who want a modern interface and depth-of-market tools.
Platform choice does not remove execution risk. During major news, market gaps or thin liquidity:
Recommended Free Tools
- spreads can widen;
- orders can fill at a worse price than expected;
- stop-loss orders can suffer slippage;
- quotes can briefly become unavailable;
- an internet or device failure can prevent manual management.
A stop-loss limits risk only under normal execution assumptions. It does not guarantee that the position will close at the exact stop price.
Leverage and negative-balance protection
Forex at FP Markets is generally offered through leveraged CFDs, not ownership of physical currency. Leverage lets a small deposit control a larger position, so a relatively small market move can consume a large part of the account.
Retail leverage is usually restricted more tightly by regulators such as ASIC and CySEC than by offshore jurisdictions. A higher maximum leverage is not an advantage if it encourages an oversized position. It increases the chance of a margin call, forced liquidation and rapid loss of capital.
Negative-balance protection may apply to retail clients under particular regulatory regimes and products. Its scope should be confirmed in the account agreement. Do not assume that a professional-client election or an offshore account carries the same protection as a regulated retail account.
What are the main risks?
FP Markets displays the standard warning that a high percentage of retail CFD accounts lose money. That warning is relevant to the broker’s business model and to any leveraged forex review: most retail customers should expect that CFD trading can result in losses, sometimes quickly.
| Risk | Practical consequence |
|---|---|
| Leverage | A small price movement can create a large percentage gain or loss on margin. |
| Spread widening | A trade may begin with a larger loss than expected during volatile conditions. |
| Slippage and gaps | A stop may execute beyond its selected price. |
| Swap charges | Multi-day positions can accumulate financing costs. |
| Currency conversion | Deposits, profits and withdrawals may be affected by exchange rates or conversion fees. |
| Entity risk | Offshore customers may have a different complaint route and fewer statutory protections. |
How to spot an FP Markets clone scam
Scammers often borrow a genuine broker’s name, logo, licence details and staff photographs. An unsolicited WhatsApp message or social-media account is not proof that it belongs to FP Markets.
Warning signs include:
- promises of guaranteed profits or fixed daily returns;
- pressure to deposit immediately;
- requests to install remote-access software;
- payment to a personal bank account or cryptocurrency wallet;
- an unfamiliar domain that differs from the official FP Markets website;
- requests for a fee to release or recover funds;
- claims that losses can be reversed if you deposit more money.
Type the broker’s website address yourself rather than following a message link. Compare the legal entity and contact details with the regulator’s register. If you have already paid a suspected clone, contact your bank or card issuer promptly, preserve messages and transaction records, and report the matter to the relevant financial regulator and police.
Strengths and weaknesses
| Potential strengths | Potential drawbacks |
|---|---|
| Established broker brand with regulated entities | Protection varies significantly by customer jurisdiction |
| Raw-spread pricing can suit active traders | Commission, swaps and slippage make “zero spread” claims incomplete |
| Several established trading platforms | Platform and account availability differs by entity |
| Forex, indices, shares, commodities and other CFDs may be available | CFDs are complex, leveraged products and many retail accounts lose money |
| Demo trading is useful for testing the platform | A demo account cannot reproduce every live-market fill or emotional pressure |
Who should consider FP Markets?
FP Markets may suit an experienced trader who understands margin, compares raw and standard pricing, and is comfortable using MetaTrader or cTrader. It may also appeal to someone who wants to test automated strategies on a demo account before considering a small live balance.

FAQ
Is FP Markets a scam?
No. FP Markets is a genuine forex and CFD brokerage brand with regulated operating entities. However, customers should verify the exact entity in their account agreement because protections differ by jurisdiction.
Is FP Markets regulated by ASIC?
The Australian FP Markets company, First Prudential Markets Pty Ltd, is associated with an ASIC Australian Financial Services Licence, number 286354. This does not mean every FP Markets customer is onboarded by the Australian entity.
Does FP Markets accept customers from the United States?
FP Markets is generally not a broker for U.S. residents. Country restrictions can change, so prospective customers should check the current official eligibility list rather than attempting to use an unapproved intermediary.
What is the minimum deposit at FP Markets?
The minimum deposit can vary by account type, entity and promotion. Check the live account-opening page and client agreement before transferring funds; do not rely on a figure from an old comparison article.
Does FP Markets offer a raw-spread account?
Yes, FP Markets commonly offers raw pricing with a separate commission, alongside standard spread-based pricing. The exact commission, minimum deposit and available instruments depend on the entity and account selected.
Can FP Markets guarantee stop-loss prices?
No. In fast markets, gaps or low liquidity, a stop-loss can be filled at a worse price than the trigger. Guaranteed-stop features, where available, are separate product terms and should not be assumed.
How can I verify an FP Markets representative?
Start at the official FP Markets domain, check the legal company name and regulator licence, and never pay a personal account or an intermediary claiming to unlock profits. Guaranteed-return promises and recovery-fee requests are strong fraud warnings.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe Bottom Line
Verdict: FP Markets is legitimate, but forex trading through it is not safe or guaranteed. Its regulated entities, established platforms and raw-spread pricing are genuine positives. The decisive checks are the entity named in your agreement, the regulator supervising that entity, the complete cost of trading and the rules for withdrawals. Treat any person promising guaranteed returns or requesting extra money to release funds as a potential impersonator—not as evidence of what FP Markets itself offers.
