On an eligible long-haul international Delta One flight, expect a complimentary, multi-course meal rather than a single tray: a pre-departure beverage, appetizer, bread, your choice of entrée and dessert. Delta also describes warm nuts and, on international services, plated desserts and fruit-and-cheese service. Beer, spirits, wine and premium tea are included. The exact dishes, brands and even course mix depend on the route, aircraft, season and menu loaded for your flight.
The safest way to know what you can actually order is to check the flight-specific menu in Delta’s menu tool and watch for the airline’s preselection invitation. Eligible customers can generally choose from the available entrées in the Fly Delta app between seven days and 24 hours before departure.

How the service usually unfolds
Cabin crew typically begin with the pre-departure drink, then complete the meal service after takeoff. The appetizer, bread, entrée and dessert may arrive as separate courses or in a coordinated presentation depending on flight length and crew workflow. If you need to sleep, tell the flight attendant early; the crew can often adjust the timing, but they cannot create a dish that was not catered for the flight.
What food quality and style to expect
Delta frames Delta One food as chef-curated and connected to regional or seasonal ingredients. That means the menu is not a single permanent list. A flight from one departure market can have entirely different appetizers and entrées from a flight operated by the same aircraft type elsewhere.
On international flights, Delta specifically calls out warm nuts, plated desserts and fruit-and-cheese service. These are premium touches, but they are not a promise that every departure will contain all three. Aircraft swaps, last-minute catering changes and supply constraints can affect what is loaded.

The list can include different culinary styles, but the available dishes are determined by the specific flight rather than by a permanent Delta One menu.

If an entrée disappears from the app or email invitation, do not assume it will be loaded anyway. Delta’s flight-specific menu terms say the airline may change or remove a selection because of menu, aircraft or flight changes.
Which drinks are complimentary in Delta One?
Delta One includes complimentary beer, spirits and wine. Delta also promotes sommelier-selected wines, craft beer and Thrive Farmers tea. Named examples on Delta’s food-and-drinks material include Du Nord Foundation Vodka, Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey and Lunazul Blanco Tequila. Brand availability is itinerary-dependent, so a named product is an example of what Delta may offer, not a guarantee for your departure.

Can you choose a Delta One meal before the flight?
Often, yes. Delta says eligible Delta One guests can use the Fly Delta app to choose from a limited menu from seven days until 24 hours before departure. The airline may also send a flight-specific invitation by email. The practical deadline is at least 24 hours before departure, not at the gate.
How to preselect an entrée
- Open the Fly Delta app. Sign in to the SkyMiles account associated with the reservation, then open My Trips.
- Select the Delta One itinerary. Open the relevant flight segment rather than a different leg on the same booking.
- Look for the meal or entrée-selection prompt. Delta displays the available choices only when the flight is eligible and the menu has been published.
- Review the dish details. Check the description for ingredients that matter to you, including meat, dairy, nuts or other allergens. A menu description is not the same as a guarantee of an allergen-free kitchen.
- Submit your choice before the cutoff. Complete the selection no later than 24 hours before departure and keep the confirmation screen or email.
- Recheck close to departure. If the aircraft or menu changes, revisit the trip. Delta reserves the right to change or remove a selection.
If the option is missing, first confirm that the segment is an eligible Delta One flight and that you are inside the seven-day-to-24-hour window. Some flights expose the menu through an email invitation rather than an in-app prompt. If neither appears, the flight may not support preselection or the menu may not yet be loaded.
What preselection does and does not guarantee
Preselecting tells the catering team which entrée you want; it does not guarantee that every component of the meal will be identical to the displayed description. Delta’s terms allow changes caused by menu, aircraft or flight updates. A substitution is also possible if a meal is unavailable at the departure station.

Delta’s current special-meals policy says special meals are offered on international flights and most domestic routes for customers traveling in Delta First. Delta One is the international premium cabin most commonly associated with this service, but availability is controlled by the route and departure market. Not every airport supports every special-meal option.

Requesting a special meal
- Check the listed options. Delta requires passengers to choose an item from its special-meal menu; a free-form request is not a substitute.
- Submit the request in My Trips, through Delta messaging or by calling 1-800-221-1212.
- Allow advance notice. The airline requires time to source and load the meal, so do not wait until boarding.
- Confirm at the airport. Tell the gate agent that a special meal is attached to your reservation.
- Confirm again onboard. Ask the flight attendant to verify the meal before service begins.
Delta’s March 3, 2025 update said menus for U.S.-departing First Class and Delta One customers were being revamped with chef-curated meals made fresh in-house and refreshed periodically. The same update said kosher meals continue to be produced in a kosher-certified kitchen. The update does not mean every route has the same menu or that a newly announced dish is available on every departure.
When to bring your own backup
Bring a suitable snack if your dietary requirement is strict, medically necessary or difficult to satisfy with the listed options. Catering can fail, a request can be missing from the manifest, or an airport may not support the meal you selected. Keep any medication, infant food or medically required nutrition in your carry-on and follow applicable security rules.

- Season: Delta refreshes menus and uses seasonal or regional framing.

- Supply and operational changes: Delta can substitute or remove selections when the planned menu or aircraft changes.
- Eligibility: Not every premium-cabin itinerary is covered by the same preselection or special-meal rules.
These variables explain why a photograph or review from another Delta One route is useful only as an illustration. Your flight-specific menu is the stronger source for the actual entrée and beverage list.
A practical checklist before departure
- Confirm that the itinerary is marketed and operated as an eligible Delta One segment, especially if the booking includes domestic connections.
- Open the Fly Delta app during the seven-day-to-24-hour preselection window.
- Check your email for Delta’s flight-specific meal invitation.
- Save the displayed menu or take a screenshot in case the app is unavailable at the airport.
- Submit any special-meal request through My Trips, Delta messaging or 1-800-221-1212 with sufficient notice.
- Tell the gate agent and cabin crew about the special meal.
- Pack a backup snack for allergies, medical diets or religious requirements.
- Recheck the itinerary after an aircraft or schedule change.
What to do if the meal or drink you expected is missing
Your preselected entrée is unavailable
Ask the flight attendant what alternatives were loaded and choose from the remaining dishes. Show your confirmation if necessary, but recognize that Delta’s terms permit substitutions after a menu or aircraft change. If none of the alternatives meets a medical or religious requirement, use the backup food you packed and report the problem to Delta after the flight.

The special meal is not onboard
Tell the lead flight attendant immediately rather than waiting for the general meal service to finish. Ask whether another sealed meal matches your requirement, and avoid assuming that a vegetarian, kosher, halal or allergen-sensitive label makes a meal suitable for your particular restriction. Document the flight number and what was requested; those details help Delta investigate the catering failure.
A named drink is not available
Ask for another option in the same category. Delta’s named spirits, wines, craft beers and tea are examples of the program, and availability varies by itinerary. The complimentary benefit is the beverage service, not a guarantee of one specific brand.

Plan on a chef-curated, multi-course experience on eligible long-haul international flights: a pre-departure drink, appetizer, bread, entrée choice and dessert, with warm nuts and fruit-and-cheese service highlighted by Delta for international operations.
