Engadget’s roundup was updated December 1, 2025, and covered Cyber Monday 2025 promotions. The biggest advertised saving was $270 off Samsung’s 8TB SSD 9100 Pro, listed at $750 at B&H. Cyber Monday 2026 falls on November 30, but its prices and stock have not been verified here.
The offers covered four different storage categories: microSD and microSD Express cards, internal NVMe SSDs, portable USB SSDs and proprietary Xbox expansion cards. They are not interchangeable, so compatibility matters more than the headline discount.

Best historical microSD deals
Switch 2 requires microSD Express
Nintendo Switch 2 owners need a microSD Express card for expandable game storage. A cheaper standard UHS-I card, such as the Samsung Evo Select, should not be presented as an equivalent substitute.

The 256GB Samsung microSD Express card at $39 was the lower-cost option. The 512GB Samsung P9 Express at $75 offered more room, while the 1TB Lexar Play Pro at $186 targeted buyers with large game libraries. The roundup’s testing context suggested that gameplay differences among several Express cards were small, making capacity, price and availability more important than modest benchmark gaps.
Before buying, confirm that the listing explicitly says microSD Express, not merely “microSDXC” or “UHS-I.” Also check the card’s seller, return policy and authenticity. Counterfeit flash storage remains a recurring risk, particularly when a price is unusually low.
Standard microSD for older Switch systems, Android and tablets
Devices that accept standard UHS-I microSD cards do not automatically need Express. The Samsung Evo Select 512GB at $33 was positioned as a budget-capacity option for older Switch consoles, Android devices and tablets. Its write performance was not ideal for demanding sustained-write workloads such as intensive camera recording.

The Samsung Pro Plus 1TB two-pack worked out to $68 per card. That was useful only if you genuinely needed two cards; a multi-pack is not a bargain if one card will remain unused.

PCIe 5.0 drives: impressive, but platform-dependent
The SK hynix Platinum P51 1TB at $110, Crucial T705 2TB at $170 and Samsung SSD 9100 Pro 8TB at $750 were enthusiast-class PCIe 5.0 offers. Each required a compatible motherboard, CPU and M.2 slot to operate at its intended interface speed. A PCIe 5.0 SSD can physically fit in a system and still run at PCIe 4.0 speeds if the platform lacks the necessary support.
PCIe 4.0 remains the value baseline for many gaming PCs and ordinary desktop workloads. Paying for PCIe 5.0 makes more sense when the computer supports it and the workload benefits from high sustained throughput. High-end PCIe 5.0 drives can also need effective cooling and may throttle under prolonged workloads. Check whether the drive’s heatsink fits beneath the motherboard cover before ordering.

The biggest discount was not the best value for everyone
The 8TB Samsung 9100 Pro had the roundup’s largest nominal saving—$270—but still cost $750. That makes it a capacity purchase for users who genuinely need 8TB, not a default recommendation for a typical gaming PC. Compare price per terabyte, warranty terms and endurance rather than relying on the dollar discount alone.

Handhelds need the correct physical size
The Crucial P310 2TB at $130 used the compact M.2 2230 form factor. That makes it relevant to compatible Steam Deck-class handhelds and thin laptops, but it is not the same physical size as the common desktop and laptop M.2 2280 drive.
Confirm the device’s supported length, mounting point, single- or double-sided clearance and repair procedure. The P310 also uses QLC NAND. QLC can be a sensible value for a game library, but sustained write performance and endurance can be less favorable than with TLC-based alternatives.

Crucial X10: check the host device first
The 1TB Crucial X10 was listed at $84.99, roughly $15 below its usual price. Its USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 interface can be substantially faster than older USB connections, but only when the computer supports that standard. A USB-C connector by itself does not guarantee USB 3.2 Gen 2×2, USB4 or Thunderbolt performance.
Many Macs and PCs will run such a drive at a slower negotiated speed. Check the host device’s specifications before paying a premium for a performance level it cannot deliver.

The 4TB Crucial X10 Pro was listed at $210. Compared with the X10, the roundup highlighted its metal enclosure, longer warranty and hardware encryption. Those features can justify the higher price for travel, business files or sensitive data, but they are not essential for every buyer.

For portable storage, also check cable compatibility, enclosure durability, dust and water resistance, sustained-write behavior and the retailer’s return policy. A 4TB drive can be cheaper and simpler than several smaller drives, but losing or damaging the only copy of important files is still a serious risk. Use a separate backup.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Xbox Series X and S storage
The Seagate Xbox Storage Expansion Card was listed at $200 for 2TB, a $60 saving, and $380 for 4TB. It uses Microsoft’s proprietary expansion approach and is the relevant option for adding internal-equivalent storage for Xbox Series X/S optimized games.
An ordinary USB SSD is cheaper and useful for storing games or running backward-compatible titles, but it cannot fully replace the proprietary expansion card for current-generation optimized games. Choose the card for convenient full-capability expansion; choose a normal external SSD when inexpensive archive or backward-compatible storage is sufficient. Microsoft’s Xbox support resources provide current platform guidance.
How to judge a storage sale
- Start with compatibility. Identify whether the device needs microSD Express, UHS-I, M.2 2230, M.2 2280, PCIe 5.0 or an Xbox expansion card.
- Compare with the normal street price. A discount from MSRP may look large even when the product regularly sells below MSRP.
- Calculate effective capacity pricing. For example, the 1TB Samsung Pro Plus two-pack worked out to $68 per card, but only if both cards were useful.
- Read checkout conditions. The Platinum P51 required a Newegg promotional code, and some offers could depend on stock, seller, membership or checkout activation.
- Check the exact SKU. Capacity, heatsink inclusion, form factor and interface can differ within the same product family.
- Do not confuse speed with value. PCIe 5.0 and USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 are worthwhile only when the workload and host hardware can use them.
- Maintain a backup. More capacity is not a backup strategy if all important data exists on one drive.
What to verify before a 2026 Cyber Monday purchase
A refreshed 2026 deal page should show the exact price timestamp, live stock, seller identity, shipping terms, return policy, coupon requirements and price history. It should also distinguish retailer price from MSRP and typical street price.
Manufacturer pages can confirm specifications: Samsung SSDs, Crucial T705, Crucial P310, Crucial X10, Crucial X10 Pro, Samsung memory cards, Lexar Play Pro and Seagate Xbox storage.
