Capital One Savor is a strong $0-annual-fee card for people who regularly spend at qualifying grocery stores, restaurants, entertainment venues and eligible streaming services—and who pay the balance before the regular variable APR applies. It earns unlimited 3% cash back in those categories, plus 5% on specified Capital One Travel hotel, vacation-rental and rental-car bookings and 1% on other purchases. The current offer includes a $200 bonus after $500 in purchases within the first three months and a 12-month 0% introductory APR on purchases and balance transfers. The main caution is that rewards follow the merchant’s category code, so a purchase that looks like groceries or dining to you may not receive 3%.
Is Capital One Savor worth it for dining and groceries?
For a cardholder with substantial restaurant and supermarket spending, Savor’s unlimited 3% categories and no annual fee make the value proposition straightforward. You do not have to track a spending cap or recover a yearly fee. The card is less compelling if most of your spending falls outside its bonus categories, if your grocery shopping is concentrated at superstores, or if you carry balances after the introductory period.

What rewards does Savor earn?
| Purchase type | Cash-back rate | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Qualifying grocery stores | 3% unlimited | Superstores such as Walmart and Target are excluded |
| Dining | 3% unlimited | Restaurants, cafes, bars, lounges, fast-food chains and bakeries when coded as dining |
| Entertainment | 3% unlimited | Eligible ticket and attraction purchases, subject to listed exclusions |
| Eligible streaming | 3% unlimited | Music and video services; examples named by the issuer include Netflix, Hulu and Disney+ |
| Specified Capital One Travel hotel, vacation-rental and rental-car bookings | 5% | Must be booked through the qualifying Capital One Travel channel |
| All other purchases | 1% | No additional general-spend bonus stated |
Capital One says rewards do not expire for the life of the account and can be redeemed for any amount. That flexibility is useful if you prefer statement credits or small, frequent redemptions rather than waiting to reach a threshold.
What is the Savor welcome bonus and introductory APR?
Eligible new primary account holders can earn a one-time $200 cash bonus after spending $500 on purchases within the first three months from account opening. The bonus is applied within two billing cycles after you qualify. Anyone who received this product’s bonus during the previous 48 months is excluded.
Popular on Amazon
The issuer currently displays a 0% introductory APR for 12 months on purchases and balance transfers. After that period, the listed regular APR is 18.74%–28.74% variable. A balance-transfer fee applies, so calculate the fee and your payoff schedule before transferring debt. Rates can change, and the issuer’s current application disclosures control the terms you receive.
Does Savor really earn unlimited 3% cash back?
There is no published annual spending cap on the 3% categories. “Unlimited” does not mean every purchase at a supermarket, restaurant or entertainment business qualifies, however. Capital One assigns rewards using the merchant category code supplied by the merchant or payment processor.

Why a grocery purchase may earn only 1%
- Superstores such as Walmart and Target are excluded from the grocery definition.
- Purchases at gas stations, convenience stores, warehouse clubs and discount stores may code outside grocery.
- A supermarket purchase routed through an unusual payment channel can receive a different code.
Why dining and entertainment can miss the bonus
Restaurants, cafes, bars, lounges, fast-food chains and bakeries generally fit the dining category when coded that way. Food trucks, third-party ordering or ticket sites, hotel restaurants and mobile-wallet transactions can be classified differently. Entertainment examples include movie theaters, sports and theatrical promoters, amusement parks, tourist attractions, aquariums, zoos, dance halls, record stores, pool halls and bowling alleys, but the issuer lists exclusions. Keep receipts and check posted rewards if a category result matters to your budget.
What counts as streaming?
The named 3% streaming category covers eligible music and video subscriptions. Netflix, Hulu and Disney+ are examples given by the issuer. Some FIOS on-demand charges, audiobook services and fitness programming are excluded, so do not assume every recurring digital subscription qualifies.

What fees and credit requirements apply?
| Term | Current stated detail |
|---|---|
| Annual fee | $0 |
| Foreign transaction fee | None |
| Introductory APR | 0% for 12 months on purchases and balance transfers |
| Regular APR after the intro period | 18.74%–28.74% variable, according to the current issuer display |
| Balance transfers | Fee applies |
| Typical credit profile | NerdWallet characterizes the standard card as intended for good-to-excellent credit |
Applicants with weaker credit may be offered a different Savor version that does not carry the same bonus or introductory APR. Approval, credit line and pricing depend on the individual application, so a stated credit range is not a guarantee.
How should you decide whether Savor fits your spending?
- List your real merchants. Separate true supermarkets from superstores, warehouse clubs and convenience stores.
- Estimate annual bonus-category spending. Include dining, eligible streaming and entertainment, then compare the expected 3% cash back with a flat-rate alternative.
- Check your payoff plan. The 0% period can help with planned purchases, but interest at the regular variable APR can outweigh rewards once it begins.
- Confirm the bonus deadline. Count the first three months from account opening, not from the date you receive the card, and exclude returns from your spending calculation.
- Review posted coding. If a merchant repeatedly earns 1%, treat that result as the practical rate for future purchases rather than relying on the product description.
A flat-rate card may be simpler when most spending is outside Savor’s bonus categories. A competing grocery card may also define eligible stores differently. Compare annual fee, category definitions, bonus requirements, introductory-APR length, regular APR, foreign-transaction fee and redemption rules using current disclosures rather than an older review.

What are the main drawbacks?
- Category-code uncertainty: the merchant’s classification, payment processor and purchase channel determine the rate.
- High potential borrowing cost: the regular APR is variable and can make carried balances expensive.
- Limited value for nonbonus spending: purchases outside the listed categories earn 1%.
- Offer changes: welcome-bonus and APR terms can differ by date, applicant and product version.
Who should get Capital One Savor?
Savor is best suited to a good-to-excellent-credit applicant who spends heavily at qualifying supermarkets and restaurants, values entertainment or streaming rewards, wants no annual fee or foreign transaction fee, and can pay in full or finish planned purchases before the introductory APR expires. It is a weaker match for shoppers whose “grocery” spend is mostly at excluded superstores, people seeking a simple rate on every purchase, or anyone likely to carry debt at the post-introductory APR.

When is the Savor welcome bonus paid?
After you meet the $500 purchase requirement within the first three months, Capital One says the bonus is applied within two billing cycles. Returns, fees and other non-purchase amounts do not substitute for qualifying purchases.

Yes. The stated terms list no foreign transaction fee. Merchant coding rules still apply overseas, and exchange-rate or merchant-conversion choices can affect the amount charged.
