Yes, but it depends on the fuel network. At participating CITGO stations, Walmart+ Gas Savings can be combined with eligible Club CITGO discounts after you link the accounts in the Walmart app. You can pay with a credit or debit card at CITGO, but card acceptance does not guarantee that your issuer will award a gas-category bonus on that transaction. At Exxon/Mobil and Murphy USA, available operator guidance says station loyalty benefits do not combine with the Walmart+ fuel discount. What can be combined—and what cannot
There are three separate benefits that people often call “fuel rewards”:

- Walmart+ Gas Savings: a price reduction available at Walmart fueling stations and selected third-party providers through the Walmart app. Participation, discount amounts and availability can vary by location, state law and operational controls.
- Station loyalty savings: a program operated by the fuel brand, such as Club CITGO, Exxon Mobil Rewards+ or Murphy Drive Rewards.
- Credit-card rewards: points, miles or cash back awarded by the card issuer under that card’s terms and based on how the transaction is coded and processed.
A station may allow the first two to combine, while your card issuer separately decides whether the resulting purchase earns a bonus. Paying with a card is therefore not proof that you received all three benefits.
CITGO is the documented stacking option
Walmart’s September 14, 2026 announcement added CITGO to Walmart+ Gas Savings and said the network then covered more than 17,000 participating stations nationwide. At participating CITGO locations, Walmart announced savings of 10 cents per gallon, subject to the program terms. CITGO’s Club CITGO materials say eligible Club Status or Premier Status savings, seasonal offers and monthly bonuses can be combined with the Walmart+ discount.

The combination is not automatic merely because you have a Walmart+ membership or a Club CITGO account. You must activate CITGO in the Walmart app and use the linked Club CITGO account identifier at the pump.
Set up the accounts before you arrive
- Open the Walmart app and go to the Gas Savings area.
- Select CITGO from the available fuel providers at your location.
- Create a Club CITGO account or link an existing one when the app prompts you.
- Confirm the phone number or other account information that will serve as your Club CITGO Alt ID.
- Use the app’s station finder to verify that the specific CITGO location participates. A CITGO-branded station is not necessarily a participating Walmart+ location.
Redeem the discount at the pump
- At the participating CITGO pump, begin the fuel transaction.
- Enter the phone number associated with the linked Club CITGO account as the Alt ID when the pump requests it.
- Follow the pump’s payment prompts and choose a credit or debit card, or go inside if that station offers indoor payment.
- Review the displayed price or discount before authorizing the full purchase. If the Walmart+ reduction or Club CITGO benefit does not appear, stop and ask the attendant rather than assuming it will be corrected later.
Walmart+ terms updated August 24, 2026, state a maximum of 30 gallons per CITGO Gas Savings transaction. The terms also warn that a discount can fail because of location restrictions, state-law requirements, operational controls or fraud-prevention controls. Those limits apply even when your accounts are correctly linked.
Which Club CITGO benefits may stack
Club CITGO describes stacking for eligible Club Status or Premier Status savings, seasonal promotions and monthly bonuses at participating CITGO locations. The value and eligibility of those offers can change, so check the offer shown in your Club CITGO account and the station’s current terms. Do not assume that an offer available at one CITGO location is available at every participating location.

Can you pay with a credit card and still earn card rewards?
Club CITGO says customers may pay at the pump with a credit or debit card, or pay inside with cash, a credit card or a debit card. That establishes card acceptance as a payment option. It does not establish that every issuer will award a gas bonus, nor does it establish how every Walmart+ app-mediated transaction will be categorized.
Why card rewards are a separate question
Credit-card rewards are controlled by the issuer’s agreement and the transaction data it receives. A card may award bonus rewards for purchases coded as gasoline or service stations, while excluding certain payment methods, intermediaries, fleet transactions or other transaction types. The available Walmart and CITGO materials do not name an issuer or card whose bonus eligibility has been confirmed for a Walmart+ fuel transaction.
No particular card should therefore be presented as guaranteed to earn its advertised gas rewards in this setup. The same caution applies if you use a card through an app, a digital wallet or another payment flow: the way the final charge is submitted can affect its category.
How to check a card before fueling
- Read the card’s current rewards terms for the definition of a qualifying gas-station purchase and any exclusions.
- Check whether the issuer bases rewards on the merchant category code, the merchant name, the payment method or another transaction field.
- Ask the issuer how it treats purchases made after a fuel discount is applied through Walmart+ or a station loyalty account. Get the answer for the exact card, not just the issuer generally.
- Keep the receipt and note the station, date, gallons and final amount so you can compare the posted rewards with the issuer’s terms.
- If the bonus matters more than the station discount, consider using the card at a location and payment terminal whose treatment you already understand.

How to compare your real savings
Compare the complete transaction, not just the headline cents-per-gallon figure. For each station, record:
- the posted cash or credit price and whether the station uses different prices by payment method;
- the Walmart+ discount shown for that location;
- the Club CITGO, Exxon/Mobil or Murphy USA benefit you would forgo or receive;
- the number of gallons you expect to buy, including the 30-gallon CITGO transaction cap;
- the final amount charged to the card; and
- the rewards your issuer actually credits under the card’s terms.
A simple calculation is: total fuel savings = Walmart+ discount per gallon × eligible gallons + station-loyalty savings per gallon or offer value + card rewards on the qualifying charge. Use zero for a component that does not apply. Do not count a card bonus until the issuer confirms that the transaction qualifies.
For an illustrative calculation only, if a participating CITGO pump applies the announced 10¢-per-gallon Walmart+ reduction to 15 eligible gallons, the Walmart+ portion is $1.50 before any Club CITGO benefit or card rewards. The example does not assign a value to a Club CITGO offer or to a particular credit card.

When the Walmart+ discount does not appear
The station is not eligible
Use the Walmart app’s Gas Savings map rather than relying on the brand sign. Participation is location-specific, and the available provider list can change.
The account was not linked correctly
Reopen the Gas Savings area and confirm that the intended Club CITGO account is linked. At the pump, enter the phone number associated with that account as the Alt ID. Using a different phone number can prevent the loyalty benefit from being recognized.
You exceeded a program limit
At CITGO, the Walmart+ terms cap savings at 30 gallons per transaction. If you need more fuel, ask the station how separate transactions are handled and whether any per-day or account limits apply under the current terms.

The pump or station has an operational restriction
Walmart’s terms allow discounts to be withheld because of state-law restrictions, location limitations, operational problems or fraud controls. Save the receipt and contact Walmart support or the station if the app showed an offer but the pump charged the undiscounted amount.
The loyalty benefit is excluded by that network
At Exxon/Mobil, the dated handout says Exxon Mobil Rewards+ cannot be combined with the Walmart+ discount. At Murphy USA, the stated rule bars earning or using Murphy Drive Rewards points on fuel when Walmart+ is used. If the current station terms still apply, you must choose which benefit to use rather than expecting both.
Important dates, geography and changing terms
The 10¢-per-gallon CITGO figure and the more-than-17,000-station network count come from Walmart’s announcement dated September 14, 2026. The 30-gallon CITGO limit comes from Walmart+ Terms of Use updated August 24, 2026. These figures are time-sensitive: participating locations, prices, discounts and limits can change.
Walmart describes Gas Savings as applying at Walmart fueling stations and select third-party providers, with availability affected by location and state law. Sam’s Club fuel access is described as a member-price benefit rather than a confirmed stacking arrangement with another station reward. Always rely on the offer and terms shown for your location on the day you buy fuel.
A practical decision rule
- Start with the location: confirm that the station appears in Walmart’s Gas Savings area.
- Identify the station reward: determine whether that network allows its own savings to combine with Walmart+.
- Activate the correct account: for CITGO, link Club CITGO and use the associated Alt ID.
- Check the gallon and transaction limits: especially the 30-gallon CITGO maximum.
- Evaluate the card separately: confirm with the issuer whether the exact payment flow earns the desired rewards.
- Verify at the pump: check the displayed discount before completing the purchase.
The best combination is the one that is simultaneously available at that station, allowed by the station’s loyalty rules, within the Walmart+ limits and recognized as a qualifying purchase by your card issuer.
