The fairest way to compare Cameco with other uranium stocks is to compare ownership-adjusted production first, then sales, contract terms, realized prices, costs, operating jurisdictions, business mix, financial strength and valuation using the same date. Cameco is not simply a mine operator: its exposure includes uranium, fuel services and a 49% interest in Westinghouse. Kazatomprom is a large uranium producer whose mining operations are in Kazakhstan and use in-situ recovery. Those companies can respond very differently to the same uranium-price move.
The figures below use 2025 full-year company reporting and Kazatomprom’s 2026 guidance. They show how to build a defensible comparison, not a current buy ranking; current share prices and matched analyst estimates are not established by these disclosures.

Start with the question your comparison must answer
“Which uranium stock is better?” is too broad to be useful. A sound comparison asks which company offers the type of exposure you want and what risks you are accepting for it. A producer with the largest attributable output may have a different contract book, cost structure, currency exposure and political risk from a diversified nuclear-fuel company.

- Normalize ownership. Compare each company’s share of joint-venture output, not one company’s 100% project production with another company’s attributable production.
- Separate production from sales and deliveries. Material produced in a year can be sold later, while deliveries can include inventory or purchased material.
- Read contract mechanics. A producer’s realized price may move differently from the spot uranium quotation.
- Match cost definitions. C1 cash cost, cash cost and all-in sustaining cash cost are not interchangeable.
- Map the business mix and jurisdiction. Mining, conversion, fuel services and reactor-related investments carry different drivers.
- Only then compare financial quality and valuation. Share prices, currencies, debt, capital spending and share counts must be measured at a common date.
This process prevents a headline production number or a single uranium-price chart from standing in for an investment analysis.

Production: compare attributable pounds before anything else
Cameco reported 21.0 million pounds of uranium production on its share basis for 2025. Kazatomprom reported 67.18 million pounds on a 100% basis but 35.15 million pounds attributable to its interests. The latter is the more relevant starting point for an equity investor because it reflects the production economically attributable to the company rather than the entire output of mines in which it may not own 100%.
| 2025 measure | Cameco | Kazatomprom | How to use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Uranium production | 21.0 million lb on Cameco’s share basis | 67.18 million lb on a 100% basis | Do not rank these two figures directly; the ownership bases differ. |
| Attributable production | 21.0 million lb share-basis figure | 35.15 million lb attributable | Use this ownership-adjusted view for an initial scale comparison. |
| Sales or deliveries | 33.0 million lb delivered | 48.08 million lb consolidated U3O8 sales | These are not production figures and are not perfectly identical measures. |
| Year-end inventory | 9.7 million lb at an average inventory cost of US$61.85/lb | Not stated in the cited 2025 results | Inventory can affect deliveries, margins and timing independently of mine output. |

Why attributable output matters
Joint ventures create an easy comparison error. A company can disclose the output of an entire mine while owning only part of it. The company may receive only its ownership share of production, revenue and cash flow, subject to the venture’s arrangements. Always record, for every peer, the reporting period, the 100% production number, the ownership percentage and the attributable number.

Kazatomprom says its attributable production represented approximately 20% of global primary uranium production in 2025. That is the company’s own characterization, not an independent market ranking, so treat it as management’s stated context rather than a substitute for checking the underlying market definition.
Production is not sales
Cameco delivered 33.0 million pounds in 2025 against 21.0 million pounds of share-basis production, while Kazatomprom reported 48.08 million pounds of consolidated U3O8 sales against 67.18 million pounds of 100%-basis production. The differences can reflect inventory movements, purchased material, contract timing, processing and ownership accounting. A production leader is not automatically a sales leader in the same year, and a high delivery number does not prove that mines produced that volume during the period.
Contracts determine how uranium prices reach revenue
Spot uranium prices are visible and easy to quote, but they are not the same as a producer’s realized price. Cameco describes long-term contracts that can combine base-escalated prices with market-referenced prices; some formulas include floors or ceilings. The exact contract mix, delivery schedule and pricing formula determine how quickly a change in spot prices reaches revenue.
Kazatomprom reported a 2025 group average realized price of US$65.32 per pound, down 6% from 2024. Its reported average month-end spot price was US$73.54 per pound, down 14% over the same comparison. Kazatomprom said long-term contracts and fixed-price components limited the effect of lower spot prices on realized pricing.
| Price measure | 2025 figure | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Kazatomprom group average realized price | US$65.32/lb, down 6% from 2024 | What the group realized on its sales; influenced by contract terms and mix. |
| Kazatomprom average month-end spot price | US$73.54/lb, down 14% from 2024 | A market reference, not the company’s realized price. |
| Cameco contract structure | Long-term contracts using base-escalated and market-referenced pricing; some formulas have floors or ceilings | Contract mechanics can dampen, delay or limit spot-price effects. |

Questions to ask about a contract book
- What proportion of expected production is committed, and over what years?
- Are prices fixed, escalated from a base, linked to spot or a blend of references?
- Do floors protect revenue in a weak market, and do ceilings limit upside in a strong market?
- Are delivery obligations larger than planned mine output, requiring inventory or third-party purchases?
- How much volume is available for discretionary spot sales?
These questions explain why two stocks can have different earnings sensitivity even when both sell uranium. Do not replace realized-price analysis with a spot quotation copied from a market page.
Costs: match the definition, year and ownership basis
Cost comparisons often look precise while comparing unlike measures. Before declaring one producer lower cost, align the currency, reporting year, ownership basis, included capital, by-product credits and whether the number is C1 cash cost or an all-in sustaining measure.
Kazatomprom’s 2026 attributable guidance provides two useful reference points: C1 cash cost of US$23.50–25.00 per pound and attributable all-in sustaining cash cost of US$35.00–36.50 per pound. These are forward-looking ranges for 2026, not 2025 results. The cited disclosures do not establish a directly comparable Cameco figure on the same definition and period.
| Cost item | Value | What it includes or excludes |
|---|---|---|
| Kazatomprom 2026 attributable C1 cash cost guidance | US$23.50–25.00/lb | A cash operating-cost measure; use the issuer’s definition before comparing. |
| Kazatomprom 2026 attributable all-in sustaining cash cost guidance | US$35.00–36.50/lb | Adds sustaining-cost considerations; it is not interchangeable with C1. |
| Cameco comparable figure in the cited material | Not stated on a directly matching basis | Do not infer a ranking from the absence of a matched number. |

Build a like-for-like cost sheet
- Write the exact metric name as reported: C1, cash cost, all-in sustaining cash cost or another measure.
- Record whether the figure is attributable or based on 100% operations.
- Use the same year and currency, and note any exchange-rate assumptions.
- Check whether sustaining capital, royalties, taxes, reclamation and corporate costs are included.
- Compare the range or actual result with realized price, not with spot price alone.
A low C1 figure can coexist with substantial sustaining capital or corporate spending. Conversely, a diversified company may show consolidated costs that are not meaningful for its uranium mines alone. The useful output is a transparent bridge from mine cost to company cash flow, not a league table built from mismatched labels.
Mining method and geography create different risks
Kazatomprom states that all of its mining operations are in Kazakhstan and use in-situ recovery (ISR). ISR extracts uranium through wells rather than conventional open-pit or underground mining, so the operating, permitting, water-management and reservoir risks differ from those of a conventional mine.
Cameco’s 2025 annual report describes Canadian operations and other interests, alongside its uranium, fuel-services and Westinghouse businesses. A Canadian operating footprint and Kazatomprom’s concentration in Kazakhstan should not be reduced to a simplistic “safe” versus “risky” label. The relevant comparison is how each company manages its specific exposures.

| Permitting and regulation | Canadian approvals, Indigenous and community relationships, taxes and project timelines | Kazakhstan permits, state-related arrangements, taxes, logistics and operating continuity |
| Ownership | Joint-venture interests can change attributable output and cash flow | Attributable output is lower than 100%-basis output because of ownership interests |
| Logistics and currency | Transport, conversion links and the currencies used in costs and sales | Export routes, supply-chain continuity, local-cost inflation and currency translation |
Use current issuer filings to assess each item. Jurisdiction is one input to risk, not a complete risk score. A mine with a favorable geology profile can still face transport, labor, water, contract or political constraints; a diversified company can still have execution risk in a new segment.

Cameco is a broader nuclear-fuel-cycle investment
Cameco presents a profile that extends beyond uranium mining. Its business includes fuel services and a 49% interest in Westinghouse, giving shareholders potential exposure to conversion, fuel services and reactor-related activity in addition to uranium production.
Kazatomprom’s cited 2025 results center on uranium production and sales. That makes it a useful large-scale producer peer, but not an identical substitute for Cameco. A producer-focused company can offer more direct uranium-price exposure; a broader fuel-cycle company can have additional earnings drivers and additional execution risks.
“Our fourth quarter and year-end results reflect another year of disciplined execution across our uranium, fuel services, and Westinghouse segments, demonstrating the strength of our strategy in a market that continues to evolve in support of long-term value creation,” Cameco CEO Tim Gitzel said in the company’s 2025 fourth-quarter results release.

How to decide whether diversification helps you
- Choose a mining-heavy exposure if you want company results to be driven mainly by uranium production, contracts and mine costs.
- Choose a broader fuel-cycle exposure if you prefer several nuclear-related revenue sources and accept that non-mining execution can dilute or change uranium-price sensitivity.
- Do not treat diversification as automatically safer. It can reduce reliance on one commodity while adding integration, project and segment-reporting complexity.
Financial quality: look beyond revenue and earnings
After operating metrics are normalized, compare how much of the reported result becomes durable cash flow. Review revenue, operating cash generation, adjusted earnings, debt, liquidity, capital spending, dividends, share count and currency translation together.
Kazatomprom reported 2025 consolidated revenue of KZT 1,803 billion, adjusted EBITDA of KZT 1,133 billion and net debt of negative KZT 140 billion, meaning net cash, using the company’s published rounded values.
| Kazatomprom 2025 measure | Reported value | Investor use |
|---|---|---|
| Consolidated revenue | KZT 1,803 billion | Shows the scale of reported sales in the company’s reporting currency. |
| Adjusted EBITDA | KZT 1,133 billion | Useful operating-profit context; reconcile it to cash flow and the issuer’s adjustments. |
| Net debt | Negative KZT 140 billion (net cash) | Indicates a net-cash position on the company’s definition and date. |
Source: Kazatomprom’s 2025 full-year results.
The 2025 net-profit comparison is affected by a prior-year one-time accounting gain. That makes adjusted results and the explanation of one-off items especially important. Do not compare headline net income without reading the reconciliation and checking whether an unusual gain or loss is recurring.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsA practical financial-quality checklist
- Does operating cash flow track adjusted EBITDA over several periods?
- Are receivables, inventory and contract assets absorbing cash?
- Is sustaining capital rising faster than production or realized prices?
- Does the company carry net debt, net cash or material lease and rehabilitation obligations?
- Are dividends funded by recurring cash flow or by balance-sheet capacity?
- Could currency movements make a stable local-currency result volatile for a foreign shareholder?
- Has the share count changed enough to affect per-share growth?
This analysis is more informative than choosing the company with the highest single-year margin.

Valuation requires a matched date and matched estimates
A relative valuation comparison cannot be built from the cited figures alone. Current share prices, enterprise values and forward earnings estimates must be dated together. A Canadian-listed company and a Kazakhstan-listed company may also have different listing currencies, depositary structures, trading hours, liquidity and investor-access costs.
When you perform the valuation work, capture these inputs on the same date:
| Input | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Primary share price and share count | Needed for market capitalization; use the same close date and account for multiple listings. |
| Cash and debt | Needed to move from equity value to enterprise value. |
| Trailing and forward earnings | Different contract timing and one-off items can make a single P/E misleading. |
| Operating cash flow and capital spending | Supports price-to-cash-flow or free-cash-flow analysis. |
| Production and realized-price assumptions | Allows a sensitivity range instead of a single uranium-price forecast. |
| Currency and tax treatment | Prevents apparent valuation differences caused by translation rather than economics. |
Do not publish a claim that one stock is cheaper or more expensive unless the prices, financial statements and estimates are synchronized. The available company reporting does not provide a matched current valuation screen or a complete ranking of public uranium peers.
Use scenarios instead of a single uranium-price forecast
Uranium equities can react to expectations before reported results change. A useful scenario model keeps the operating assumptions separate:
Lower-price scenario
Test how much contracted volume is protected by floors or fixed-price components, how much production is uncommitted, and whether sustaining capital can be reduced without damaging future output. A producer with lower costs may remain cash-generative, but debt, taxes, royalties and capital commitments still matter.
Base scenario
Use the company’s published production plan, contract deliveries and cost guidance, then reconcile production with sales and inventory. For Kazatomprom, the 2026 attributable production guidance is 14,500–15,500 tonnes U3O8. It is forward-looking and can change; do not treat the range as a guaranteed outcome.
Higher-price scenario
Check how quickly higher prices flow through contracts, whether ceilings limit upside and whether the company can expand production. A diversified business may capture upside through fuel services or reactor-related activity, while a producer-heavy peer may show more direct leverage to uranium pricing.
Run each scenario through revenue, operating cash flow, sustaining capital, balance-sheet needs and per-share results. The point is not to predict a precise uranium price; it is to identify which assumptions drive the investment outcome.

A repeatable workflow for comparing any uranium stock
- Collect the latest annual report and results release. Start with the issuer’s own production, sales, contract and financial definitions.
- Normalize units. Record pounds versus tonnes U3O8, 100%-basis versus attributable output, and the reporting currency.
- Build a production-and-sales bridge. Explain the difference between output, deliveries, purchases and inventory.
- Map contract exposure. Separate fixed, escalated, spot-linked, floor and ceiling mechanisms where disclosed.
- Match costs. Compare the same metric, year, ownership basis and capital treatment.
- Assess asset and jurisdiction risk. Note mining method, country concentration, logistics, permitting, labor and joint-venture arrangements.
- Separate business segments. Identify what is uranium mining and what comes from conversion, fuel services, reactor technology or other activities.
- Check financial durability. Reconcile adjusted earnings to cash flow, review net debt and capital spending, and investigate one-off items.
- Set a valuation date. Use share prices, share counts and estimates from the same date and listing context.
- Stress-test the thesis. Model lower, base and higher uranium-price cases and identify the assumptions that would invalidate your view.
Common comparison mistakes and how to correct them
Mistake: ranking 100% production against attributable production
Correction: Put both numbers in the worksheet, but rank scale using attributable output and disclose the ownership percentages.
Mistake: treating deliveries as current-year mine production
Correction: Reconcile deliveries with production, inventory and purchased material before drawing a growth conclusion.
Mistake: using spot uranium price as realized price
Correction: Read contract formulas and compare the company’s realized price with the relevant spot reference for the same period.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Mistake: calling a C1 number an all-in cost
Correction: Label every metric exactly and include sustaining capital and corporate costs where the issuer does.
Mistake: assuming a country label is a complete risk assessment
Correction: Break risk into permitting, taxes, logistics, labor, currency, ownership and supply-chain factors.
Mistake: declaring a valuation winner from different dates
Correction: Rebuild the comparison with synchronized prices, financial statements and estimates.
What the 2025 disclosures establish—and what they do not
The disclosures establish a clear contrast. Cameco produced 21.0 million pounds on its share basis, delivered 33.0 million pounds and ended 2025 with 9.7 million pounds of uranium inventory at an average inventory cost of US$61.85 per pound. It also combines uranium with fuel services and a 49% Westinghouse interest.
Kazatomprom reported 35.15 million pounds of attributable production, 67.18 million pounds on a 100% basis and 48.08 million pounds of consolidated U3O8 sales. It reported a US$65.32 per pound group average realized price, 2025 revenue of KZT 1,803 billion, adjusted EBITDA of KZT 1,133 billion and net cash of KZT 140 billion, and issued 2026 attributable production and cost guidance.
Those facts support a disciplined comparison of scale, contract exposure, costs, geography, diversification and financial strength. They do not establish current relative valuation, a price target, the best uranium stock, a complete peer universe or future production outcomes. Refresh guidance, corporate interests, contract disclosures and market prices before making an investment decision.
