Cameco vs. Other Uranium Stocks: How to Compare Producers

Compare Cameco with other uranium stocks by separating what each company mines from what it sells, delivers, or earns from other fuel-cycle businesses. Then match production ownership, contract terms, cost definitions, operating risks, and valuation dates. A single production or cost figure cannot establish which stock is the better investment.

Start by identifying what each company earns from

Uranium companies are not interchangeable. One may be concentrated in mining; another may also buy and market uranium, provide conversion or fuel services, or own businesses outside uranium production. Those differences can affect how revenue and earnings respond to uranium prices, so first check the business mix in each company’s own filings.

Cameco has businesses beyond uranium mines

Cameco reported 21.0 million pounds of uranium production attributable to the company in 2025, alongside 14.0 million kgU of fuel-services production, including 11.2 million kgU of UF₆. Its 2025 annual report also describes its interest in Westinghouse; Cameco reported a $276 million increase in Westinghouse net earnings compared with 2024. These activities mean Cameco’s results are not a simple proxy for the uranium spot price. See the Cameco 2025 Annual Report.

Kazatomprom has a different operating and sales profile

Kazatomprom reported that approximately 20% of global primary uranium production was attributable to it in 2025. Its sales portfolio includes spot-linked long-term contracts as well as some fixed-price components and ceilings. Its 2025 full-year results provide production scale and financial information, while its 1H 2025 results discuss interim costs, sales, and operating matters. These disclosures are not, by themselves, a like-for-like comparison with Cameco’s annual results.

Keep production, sales, deliveries, and inventory separate

These measures answer different questions. Production concerns output over a period; attributable production reflects the company’s economic share rather than necessarily a mine’s full output. Deliveries reflect material transferred to customers, while inventory is material held at a reporting date. Purchased uranium can also contribute to sales and deliveries, so delivered pounds should not be mistaken for pounds mined.

Cameco reported 33.0 million pounds delivered and 9.7 million pounds of year-end inventory in 2025, in addition to its attributable production figure. After completing that year’s deliveries, it reported about 230 million pounds of long-term uranium commitments remaining, with an average annual delivery volume of about 28 million pounds over the following five years. All these figures cover different aspects of the business; none should be substituted for another. The company’s 2025 fourth-quarter results were published February 13, 2026, and cover the year ended December 31, 2025.

Compare reported figures without treating unlike periods as equivalent

The figures below are useful starting points, not a ranking. They differ in period, unit, and measure. In particular, Kazatomprom’s cost figures are interim results, not full-year figures.

Measure Cameco Kazatomprom
Production or scale reported 21.0 million pounds of attributable uranium production in calendar 2025; Cameco 2025 Annual Report. Approximately 20% of global primary uranium production attributable to Kazatomprom in 2025; Kazatomprom 2025 full-year results. An equivalent attributable-pound figure is not stated in that source.
Cash cost and AISC Not stated in the cited Cameco 2025 annual report for a directly matched comparison with Kazatomprom’s interim figures. Attributable C1 cash cost of USD 17.86/lb and attributable AISC of USD 30.81/lb for the six months ended June 30, 2025; Kazatomprom 1H 2025 results.

Do not infer that the lower-looking number in a cost comparison means a stock is cheaper to produce uranium. C1 cash cost and all-in sustaining cost (AISC) are different measures, and company definitions may differ. Match the reporting period, currency, ownership basis, royalties and taxes, and treatment of sustaining capital before comparing them. Also consider whether operating systems differ: in-situ recovery and conventional mining can have different cost drivers.

Read the contract book alongside production

Long-term contracts can shape realized prices and delivery obligations differently from spot-market exposure. Check how much a company has committed to deliver, when pricing resets, and whether contracts use spot-linked formulas, fixed-price components, floors, ceilings, or escalation terms. Consider those obligations alongside production plans and inventory: a company may need to source material beyond its own output to meet sales commitments.

Cameco’s remaining commitments and expected delivery volume are reported above; Kazatomprom describes a mix of spot-linked long-term contracts and some fixed-price components and ceilings in its 1H 2025 results. Contract structures differ, and the available figures do not establish a directly comparable realized price for the two companies. Avoid using the uranium spot price as though it were automatically the price every producer receives.

Assess assets, operating reliability, and supply-chain exposure

A reported low cost or large production share does not on its own show whether output can be maintained. Review mine and mill capacity, reserves and resources, recovery, ramp-up plans, maintenance, disruptions, remaining mine life, and future capital needs. A low current cost may coexist with output constraints or substantial investment requirements.

Consider jurisdiction and logistics as operating factors

Permitting, taxes, transport routes, input availability, joint-venture control, currency exposure, and export policy can affect whether stated capacity becomes reliable supply. Cameco described supply-chain issues at Inkai, including sulphuric-acid delivery instability in 2024. It said operations resumed on January 23, 2025 after a temporary pause. Kazatomprom cited sulphuric-acid costs and Kazakhstan’s mineral extraction tax among factors behind higher cash costs. These are dated disclosures, not evidence that the same conditions persist today. See the Cameco 2024 Annual Report and Kazatomprom 1H 2025 results.

Use seller lists carefully

The U.S. Energy Information Administration’s Form EIA-858 Table 24 lists sellers to U.S. civilian reactor owners and operators for 2023–2025. It includes Cameco, Kazatomprom, Paladin Energy, Orano, and Energy Fuels, among others. This can help identify participants in the U.S. supply chain; seller status does not establish comparable mine production, attributable output, or pure-play exposure. It is not a producer ranking.

Compare financial resilience and valuation on one date

Before deciding whether one stock looks more attractive, compare liquidity, debt, capital-spending commitments, share count and dilution, and enterprise value using market data collected on the same date. Then assess valuation against the business mix and contract exposure rather than assuming every company deserves the same relationship to uranium prices. The company disclosures cited here do not establish live prices or valuation multiples, so they cannot show which stock is cheapest or best.

A practical comparison should use the same period and definitions wherever possible. If a peer does not report an equivalent figure, treat the gap as a limit on the comparison—not as proof that its economics are better or worse.
