Short answer: Wix is the better all-in-one website builder for beginners and business owners who want to launch quickly with minimal maintenance. Bluehost is the better choice for WordPress users who want lower infrastructure costs, more customization, and the ability to move their site later.
They are not equivalent products: Wix is primarily a hosted website-building platform, while Bluehost is primarily a web-hosting provider commonly used with WordPress. That distinction affects setup, pricing, support, security, ecommerce, and ownership.

Bluehost is hosting, usually paired with WordPress
Bluehost provides the server infrastructure on which a website runs. Its offerings include shared hosting, managed WordPress hosting, WooCommerce-focused hosting, cloud hosting, VPS hosting, and dedicated servers. WordPress is the publishing system and website software you install and manage on that infrastructure.
#1 Best Overall
- Easily store and access 2TB to content on the go with the Seagate Portable Drive, a USB external hard drive
- Designed to work with Windows or Mac computers, this external hard drive makes backup a snap just drag and drop
- To get set up, connect the portable hard drive to a computer for automatic recognition no software required
- This USB drive provides plug and play simplicity with the included 18 inch USB 3.0 cable
- The available storage capacity may vary.
Bluehost also provides WordPress installation and management tools, domain registration, SSL, CDN features, caching, backups, security tools, staging, migration tools, SSH, and WP-CLI on applicable plans. Its current WordPress offering is described at Bluehost’s WordPress hosting page.
The actual editing experience depends on the WordPress theme, block editor, page builder, plugins, and your technical skill. Bluehost itself is not a direct equivalent to Wix’s drag-and-drop editor.
Wix is an all-in-one hosted website builder
Wix combines hosting, the website editor, templates, AI-assisted site creation, security, support, SEO tools, marketing features, ecommerce, bookings, events, restaurants, memberships, and apps in one platform. You do not separately assemble a hosting account and a content-management system.
Wix’s plans page lists these features by plan. Wix Studio also provides more advanced design and agency workflows, but the platform remains hosted and more tightly tied to Wix than a self-hosted WordPress site.
Bluehost vs Wix pricing in 2026
Price comparisons are easy to distort because Bluehost advertises long-term introductory hosting rates, while Wix commonly displays annual-plan pricing for a hosted builder. Compare the renewal price, included features, domain, email, add-ons, and taxes—not just the headline monthly number.
Observed US price signals
On Bluehost pages checked in August 2026, displayed promotional pricing included approximately:
- Starter: about $3.99 per month on a 36-month term, renewing at about $9.99 per month.
- Business: about $6.99 per month on a 36-month term, renewing at about $13.99 per month.
- eCommerce Essentials: about $14.99 per month, renewing at about $21.99 per month.
Qualifying 12- or 36-month plans generally include a free domain for the first year, and Bluehost advertises a 30-day money-back guarantee. Taxes such as VAT or GST may be excluded. Renewal rates vary by product and billing term; see Bluehost’s renewal pricing information before buying.
Independent 2026 coverage listed approximate US Wix annual-billing prices of:
- Light: $17 per month
- Core: $29 per month
- Business: $39 per month
- Business Elite: $159 per month
Wix also offers a free plan, but it uses a Wix subdomain and displays Wix branding. Prices and currencies vary by location and billing term, and annual or multi-year plans are generally paid upfront. The final price at checkout is authoritative; consult Wix’s current plans page.

The costs people forget
For Bluehost, budget for renewal pricing, domain renewal after the first year, email, premium themes and plugins, and optional backup, security, SEO, or marketing services. WordPress maintenance may also cost money if you hire someone to handle updates, troubleshooting, or security. Bluehost explains optional charges in its pricing-transparency guidance.
For Wix, budget for the paid plan, business or ecommerce tier if you accept payments, business email—typically purchased separately through Google Workspace—premium apps, domain renewal, payment-processing charges, and possible rebuilding costs if you later leave the platform. A domain voucher on many qualifying plans generally applies to a new domain for one year, not renewal of an existing domain.
How to compare total cost
- Write down the first payment, including the full prepaid term.
- Record the renewal price and renewal frequency.
- Add the domain cost after year one.
- Add professional email, plugins, apps, payment fees, and maintenance.
- Estimate the cost over three years, not just the first month.
Bluehost may be substantially cheaper for infrastructure, but it can require more paid software or labor. Wix costs more as a bundled platform, but that price includes convenience and reduces the number of separate services you need to manage.
Which is easier to use?
Wix is easier for initial setup and daily visual editing. You can choose a template or generate a starting site with AI, edit pages visually, add business functions, connect a domain, and use built-in marketing tools without making many hosting decisions.
Bluehost is easier if your destination is WordPress and you are prepared to learn WordPress. Guided setup and AI site-creation tools can shorten the starting process, while WordPress gives you more control later. But you remain exposed to plugin compatibility, updates, backups, security settings, caching, and troubleshooting.
“Ease of use” has several meanings:
- Initial launch: Wix usually wins.
- Routine visual edits: Wix usually wins.
- Adding a specialized WordPress feature: Bluehost may win once you understand plugins.
- Troubleshooting: Wix usually has a more unified support path; WordPress offers more possible fixes but more possible failure points.
- Advanced customization: Bluehost and WordPress generally offer more control.
Design and customization
Wix: more visual control with less technical overhead
Wix offers a large template library, drag-and-drop positioning, AI-assisted design, and templates for businesses such as restaurants, portfolios, service companies, and online stores. It is a strong choice when appearance and launch speed matter more than access to the underlying stack.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe trade-off is that changing templates after a site is established can require substantial rebuilding. Storage, collaborators, apps, and advanced features can also depend on the plan.
Bluehost plus WordPress: deeper control, more responsibility
WordPress provides thousands of themes and plugins, along with access to custom CSS, PHP, JavaScript, and database-level configuration where your hosting setup permits it. You can use the block editor, Elementor, or another page builder.
This makes WordPress more adaptable for publications, affiliate sites, membership projects, and custom business workflows. It also creates more compatibility risk: a theme, plugin, page builder, or WordPress update can affect another part of the site.

Hosting performance, uptime, and reliability
Both companies advertise 99.99% uptime figures on current plan pages. These are provider claims or service-level commitments—not proof that every website will have identical speed or availability.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Real-world performance depends on traffic, page weight, images, code quality, plugins, caching, CDN configuration, geography, and plan limits. A lightweight Wix brochure site may outperform a poorly optimized WordPress site, while a carefully configured WordPress site may offer more control over caching and infrastructure.
TechRadar says it tested 60 hosting platforms in 2026 and rated Bluehost strongly for speed, traffic handling, ease of use, and support, while also warning about renewal pricing and add-ons. That is useful independent evidence, but it should not be generalized into “Bluehost is always faster.” Read the full hosting testing context.
Separate these claims when evaluating providers:
- Uptime claim: what the provider promises or advertises.
- Independent test: what a named testing organization measured under its own conditions.
- Site-level outcome: what your particular design, traffic, plugins, and location produce.
WordPress, maintenance, and security
Bluehost plus WordPress gives you an open ecosystem, broad plugin and theme choice, greater access to your content and code, and a clearer path to another WordPress host. Applicable Bluehost plans advertise managed updates, SSL, CDN, malware scanning or removal, backups, staging, SSH, and WP-CLI.
Managed hosting does not mean every part of WordPress is managed for you. You may still encounter:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Plugin conflicts and failed updates
- Vulnerable or abandoned plugins
- Poorly optimized themes
- Database, caching, and compatibility problems
- Backup-retention or restoration limitations
- Costs for premium plugins or professional maintenance
Wix manages more of the platform layer, so you are less exposed to routine server and plugin administration. Its trade-off is less control over server-level behavior, apps, and the platform roadmap. Neither provider eliminates the need for strong passwords, appropriate access controls, reliable backups, and careful content management.
Ecommerce: Wix Commerce versus WordPress and WooCommerce
When Wix is the better fit
Wix is often simpler for a small catalog, services, bookings, subscriptions, appointments, restaurants, or a business that wants storefront, marketing, payments, and site editing together. Qualifying Wix plans include ecommerce and payment features, but plan and country availability matter.
When Bluehost plus WooCommerce is the better fit
WordPress with WooCommerce offers more control over checkout, product data, integrations, content, plugins, and the underlying site. It is a better fit when your store needs custom workflows or you want to reduce dependence on a single hosted builder.
That flexibility adds responsibility for updates, security, performance, compatibility, and recovery. Bluehost’s current ecommerce plans advertise WooCommerce installation and commerce features; confirm exactly what is included in the selected plan at Bluehost’s ecommerce hosting page.

Do payment fees decide the result?
Not by themselves. Payment-processing rates vary by country, provider, payment method, currency, and product configuration. Figures such as 2.9% plus $0.30 for a Wix payment and 0% platform transaction fees for WooCommerce are examples reported in comparison coverage, not universal rules. Verify the applicable rates before forecasting profit.
If the real need is advanced retail operations, large catalogs, omnichannel selling, or specialized checkout, compare Shopify separately. Shopify is designed specifically for ecommerce and may be a better fit than either a general Wix site or basic WordPress hosting.
SEO and marketing
Wix includes SEO controls, AI-assisted content and design tools, analytics, marketing features, and business integrations. WordPress can use SEO plugins such as Yoast, custom schema, redirects, caching controls, structured content, and specialized integrations. Bluehost advertises Yoast SEO tools on applicable plans.
Neither Bluehost nor Wix is automatically “better for Google.” Rankings depend on content quality, crawlability, technical configuration, accessibility, structured data, speed, links, and the quality of the business itself. Wix is simpler; WordPress exposes more technical controls.

Bluehost advertises 24/7 chat, with phone support depending on the plan or product tier. Its support is most relevant to hosting, account issues, WordPress setup, and Bluehost-managed services. It may not troubleshoot every third-party plugin, theme, custom-code problem, or ecommerce integration.
Wix advertises 24/7 customer care and offers documentation, chat, callbacks, and professional assistance. Because the editor and hosting come from the same company, the support path is usually more unified.
“24/7 support” does not guarantee phone access on every plan or resolution of third-party software problems. Check the support options attached to your exact plan.

WordPress on Bluehost
A WordPress site hosted on Bluehost can generally be moved to another WordPress host through a migration plugin or a manual export of files and the database. Bluehost advertises a free WordPress migration tool. Migration is not always effortless: domain settings, email, media files, redirects, plugin licenses, DNS, and testing still need attention.
Wix
A Wix site cannot simply be exported as a complete, independently hostable equivalent of a WordPress installation. Leaving Wix may require rebuilding the design, recreating content, or embedding selected elements rather than transferring the full hosted application. See Wix’s documentation on exporting or embedding a Wix site elsewhere.

- Existing WordPress customer: Compare Bluehost with other managed WordPress hosts based on renewal price, performance, support, and migration terms.
Alternatives worth considering
Hostinger: A lower-cost hosting and website-builder alternative with AI tools; independent 2026 coverage identified it as a strong-value option.
Squarespace: A design-focused hosted builder worth considering if polished templates matter more than WordPress portability.
Shopify: A specialist option for serious ecommerce, larger catalogs, omnichannel selling, and advanced retail workflows.
Other managed WordPress hosts: Experienced users may prefer a provider with stronger performance or support, even if Bluehost offers easier beginner onboarding.
Final verdict
Choose Wix for the better website-building experience. It is the stronger fit when simplicity, visual editing, integrated business features, and low maintenance matter most.
Choose Bluehost for the better WordPress hosting and ownership proposition. It is the stronger fit when you want lower infrastructure costs, plugins, custom development, ecommerce flexibility, and a clearer path to move your site later.
