1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsBloom Energy and Vertiv are AI-infrastructure exposures, but they are not substitutes. Bloom sells on-site solid-oxide fuel-cell power systems, so its results depend on whether data-center developers choose, finance, permit, connect and operate distributed generation. Vertiv sells the equipment and services that manage power, cooling and physical infrastructure inside data centers. Its results depend more on orders, backlog conversion, manufacturing capacity and customer build schedules.
That difference should determine how you compare the stocks. Use matched reporting periods, separate reported results from guidance and company models, examine cash and funding needs, then calculate valuation from current prices on the same date. The evidence available here supports a disciplined comparison of the businesses and their risks; it does not establish a current relative valuation or a buy-or-sell conclusion.

The direct comparison: generation versus infrastructure equipment
Bloom is principally a power-generation company. Its Energy Server systems generate electricity on site using solid-oxide fuel-cell technology. A customer may consider the system when grid capacity, reliability, speed of deployment, emissions goals or the economics of local generation make an alternative attractive.

| Question | Bloom Energy | Vertiv |
|---|---|---|
| What is being sold? | On-site electricity-generation systems and related deployment and service activity. | Power, cooling, racks, integrated systems, software and services used to build and operate critical facilities. |
| Primary AI link | Providing additional or alternative power where grid supply, timing or reliability is a constraint. | Equipping the electrical, thermal and physical systems that support AI servers and other data-center loads. |
| Main demand event | A customer approves and funds a generation project, then completes permitting, interconnection, installation and fuel arrangements. | A customer places an order and Vertiv manufactures, delivers and commissions equipment or services. |
| Typical execution question | Can a project reach operation on the expected schedule and economics? | Can orders be produced, shipped and converted to revenue without cancellation, delay or margin erosion? |
Because the companies sit at different layers, a rising AI-capital-spending forecast can affect them differently. A data-center owner may buy Vertiv equipment while choosing another power source, or select Bloom generation while purchasing cooling and electrical gear from several vendors. A comparison therefore starts with business-model exposure, not a ranking based on the phrase “AI stock.”
What the latest disclosed numbers actually show
The available periods are not matched. Bloom disclosed detailed second-quarter 2026 results, while Vertiv’s cited evidence is its fiscal-2025 Form 10-K. Do not put these figures in a growth-rate contest.
| Measure | Bloom Energy | Vertiv |
|---|---|---|
| Period | Quarter ended June 30, 2026 | Fiscal year ended December 31, 2025 |
| Revenue or net sales | $1,065.4 million; up 165.5% year over year | $10,229.9 million, versus $8,011.8 million in fiscal 2024 |
| Product revenue or mix detail | Product revenue $935.4 million, up 215.4% year over year | Detailed product-versus-service comparison is not stated in the cited evidence |
| Profitability disclosed | GAAP gross margin 33.4%, versus 26.7% in the prior-year quarter; GAAP operating income $182.2 million | Comparable quarter-level margin data are not stated in the cited evidence |
| Cash flow disclosed | Quarterly operating cash flow $226.4 million | Comparable quarter-level operating cash flow is not stated in the cited evidence |
| Forward outlook | 2026 revenue guidance of $3.9–4.2 billion; non-GAAP gross margin about 34%; non-GAAP operating income $800–900 million; non-GAAP EPS $2.55–2.85 | The cited evidence does not provide a matched 2026 guidance set |
| Backlog | A comparable backlog figure is not stated | Estimated combined order backlog $15.0 billion at December 31, 2025, versus $7.2 billion a year earlier |
Bloom’s guidance is a forward-looking management expectation, not a reported result. Its margin, operating-income and EPS targets are explicitly non-GAAP where labeled; they should not be compared with GAAP figures without reconciling the adjustments. Vertiv’s backlog is also not revenue. The filing says most of it was considered firm and expected to ship within 12–18 months, while warning that orders can be cancelled or rescheduled and that backlog is not necessarily indicative of future sales.

Before making a current-quarter comparison, retrieve that release and the associated filing, then align the periods, definitions and currency treatment.
A repeatable framework for comparing the stocks
1. Define the exposure you want
Write the investment thesis in one sentence before looking at valuation. A Bloom thesis might be that constrained grid capacity and urgent AI load growth will make on-site generation commercially attractive, allowing the company to grow systems and services while improving margins. A Vertiv thesis might be that AI rack density and data-center construction will drive sustained demand for power distribution, cooling, integrated systems and service.
If your thesis cannot identify the customer decision that creates revenue, it is probably an AI-theme statement rather than an investable thesis.
2. Separate growth sources
For each company, classify growth as volume, price, acquisitions, mix, project timing or a combination. Bloom’s quarter included product revenue growth that was faster than total revenue growth; that distinction matters because a large system shipment can create a very different cash and service profile from a recurring support contract. For Vertiv, examine whether sales growth comes from data-center demand, other end markets, geographic expansion, acquisitions or shipment timing.

Use several periods. One unusually large Bloom project or one accelerated Vertiv order can make a single quarter look representative when it is not.
3. Compare like with like on margins
Compare GAAP with GAAP and non-GAAP with non-GAAP. Record every adjustment, including stock compensation, restructuring, amortization or other items that management excludes. Then examine gross margin, operating margin and the bridge from revenue to operating cash flow across multiple periods.
For Bloom, improving gross margin can be valuable only if it survives project mix changes, manufacturing costs, fuel economics and service obligations. For Vertiv, margin durability depends on product mix, pricing, factory utilization, component costs, tariffs, expedited freight and the ability to execute fixed-price contracts.
4. Test cash conversion and funding
Revenue and adjusted earnings do not pay suppliers or service debt; cash does. Build a simple bridge for each company:
- Operating cash flow.
- Capital expenditure and other investment.
- Working-capital movements, especially receivables, inventory and customer deposits.
- Interest expense and debt maturities.
- Share issuance, conversions or other potential dilution.
- Customer financing requirements that could affect project timing or adoption.
Bloom identifies significant upfront costs, financing availability and the ability to service debt as risks. Its filing also flags potential stock-price volatility and dilution from conversion of outstanding convertible notes. Vertiv’s filing identifies indebtedness as a risk, so review leverage and refinancing needs rather than assuming backlog growth solves funding questions.
5. Follow demand through the conversion process
Bloom’s signed plan, announcement or customer discussion is only an early milestone. Track whether the project receives permits, secures interconnection, arranges fuel, obtains financing, reaches installation and begins service. Record the expected start date, customer responsibility and cancellation terms where disclosed.
For Vertiv, track orders from booking to production, shipment, installation and acceptance. Measure cancellations, rescheduling, lead times, inventory and the share of backlog expected to ship within the stated window. Treat the company’s backlog caveat as a permanent part of the analysis: a backlog balance is not a guarantee of future sales.

6. Map customers, end markets and geography
Identify exposure to hyperscale and colocation operators, neocloud providers, enterprises, communications customers and industrial buyers. Concentration can make a strong market grow quickly but can also make a quarter dependent on a small number of projects or accounts.
Vertiv reported that 62% of fiscal-2025 sales came from the Americas, 20% from Asia Pacific and 18% from EMEA. Use those proportions to test regional construction cycles, currency effects, tariffs and geopolitical or regulatory exposure. Do not assume Bloom’s announced U.S. projects describe its global mix; verify geographic revenue and customer concentration in its filings.
7. Calculate valuation only after the operating comparison
At publication, capture each share price and market capitalization on the same timestamp. Choose one consistent denominator: trailing-twelve-month sales, forward sales, EBITDA, EBIT or earnings. Use the same fiscal-year convention and disclose whether consensus estimates or company guidance supplies the forward figure.
The evidence here does not provide a dated share-price or valuation snapshot. Consequently, no current price-to-sales, price-to-earnings or enterprise-value multiple can be quoted responsibly from it. A stock can represent the stronger business and still be the less attractive investment if its price already discounts a better outcome.
Bloom Energy: the opportunity and what can break it
The operating opportunity
Bloom’s second-quarter 2026 report indicates a business capable of large year-over-year growth, higher gross margin and positive quarterly operating cash flow. Management’s 2026 outlook also assumes substantial revenue and non-GAAP profit. The economic proposition is straightforward: an on-site generator may help a data-center operator add load faster or obtain resilience where grid power is constrained.
That proposition is project-specific. Fuel prices, electricity prices, local permitting, interconnection rules, incentives, financing costs, site design and utilization determine whether a system is attractive. A favorable model at one site is not proof of the same return at another.
Commercial announcements are milestones, not completed revenue
On July 24, 2025, Bloom announced plans to deploy fuel-cell technology at select U.S. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure data centers and said it aimed to deliver on-site power for an entire data center within 90 days. The announcement also said Bloom had deployed more than 400 MW to power data centers worldwide at that time. These statements are dated to that announcement; independently verify the current operating status and revenue recognition of any site before treating the capacity as completed deployment.

Mahesh Thiagarajan, executive vice president of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, said: “We continue to see strong global demand for OCI services across our entire data center portfolio including our large gigawatt AI data centers.” That comment supports the customer’s stated demand environment, not a guarantee of Bloom orders or future sales.
Bloom’s principal failure modes
- Project timing: sales and installation cycles can extend, pushing revenue and cash receipts into later periods.
- Financing and debt: customers may struggle to fund significant upfront costs, while Bloom must manage its own debt service and potential dilution.
- Fuel and electricity economics: changing gas or electricity prices can alter the customer’s savings and willingness to proceed.
- Manufacturing and supply: scaling capacity, obtaining components and controlling production costs can limit growth or compress margins.
- Interconnection and permitting: local approvals and grid interfaces can delay an otherwise contracted project.
- Policy and incentives: tax-credit or regulatory changes can alter project returns.
- AI construction pace: a slowdown in data-center adoption would reduce the urgency behind new on-site generation.
Bloom’s 2025 filing describes distributed generation as an emerging market. That wording matters: customer acceptance, financing and installation execution remain adoption variables, not merely administrative details.
Vertiv: the opportunity and what can break it
The operating opportunity
Vertiv participates in many of the physical systems that every high-density data center must design, procure, install and maintain, regardless of which server chip or power-generation technology a customer selects. Its broad portfolio can create several selling points per project, from switchgear and busbar to UPS systems, liquid cooling, racks, integrated modules, software and service.
The fiscal-2025 filing’s sales increase and larger estimated backlog indicate substantial demand entering the business. The key analytical question is not whether the backlog is large; it is how much converts to revenue and cash, at what margin and on what schedule.
Vertiv’s principal failure modes
- Order timing and cancellation: customers can place, delay, resize or cancel orders as financing and construction plans change.
- Backlog conversion: factory capacity, component availability, site readiness or customer acceptance can prevent booked work from becoming sales.
- Technology shifts: changes in rack architecture, cooling methods or data-center design can reduce demand for a particular product configuration.
- Fixed-price execution: unexpected labor, material, freight or rework costs can reduce margin on contracts whose prices are already set.
- Competition: rivals can pressure pricing, win specifications or bundle competing systems and services.
- Supply chain and tariffs: shortages, production interruptions and trade costs can raise expenses or delay shipments.
- Cybersecurity and international operations: operational disruption, data risk, currency and regulatory differences can affect service and profitability.
A backlog-heavy thesis should therefore include a conversion rate, expected shipment window, cancellation assumption and margin range. Without those variables, the backlog number is an impressive demand indicator but an incomplete earnings forecast.
What Bloom’s 800V DC analysis does—and does not—prove
Bloom’s September 16, 2026 release presents a modeled 800V DC-native architecture for a 1 GW AI data center. Bloom says the scenario could reduce non-compute capital expenditure by $3.6 billion, or 27%, and reduce five-year total cost of ownership by $5.5 billion, or 9%.

Those are Bloom’s own model outputs, not independently validated realized savings. The release says actual economics vary with site design, energy prices, equipment costs and other project-specific factors. Keep the 1 GW scenario and the modeling qualification attached to every use of the figures; they are not a universal claim about all AI facilities.

Bloom founder, chairman and chief executive KR Sridhar said: “AI is not just increasing electricity demand. It is catalyzing a positive transformation of how power is generated and consumed by becoming the first scale adopter of both onsite and DC power,” Bloom chief marketing officer Natalie Sunderland said: “We’re seeing the shift to 800V DC happen faster than many expected.” These are company statements about an adoption thesis, not independent confirmation of market-wide implementation.
The same announcement relays a forecast from Bloom’s 2026 Mid-Year Data Center Power Report that data-center leaders expect DC-based architectures to account for 58% of new deployments by 2030. Treat that as a reported expectation, not an observed adoption rate. An investor should separately verify customer deployments, standards work and third-party economics before assigning a broad valuation premium to the architecture.
Scenario analysis: make the comparison investable
Build three cases for each company using the same horizon and currency. The cases should change operating assumptions, not just apply arbitrary multiples.
Recommended Free Tools
| Scenario | Bloom assumptions to stress | Vertiv assumptions to stress |
|---|---|---|
| Upside | Faster project approvals, strong AI load growth, improving manufacturing scale, stable fuel economics and guidance achievement. | Backlog ships on schedule, high-density cooling and power mix expands, pricing holds and factories meet demand. |
| Base | Projects progress unevenly, margins improve gradually and guidance is met only after normal timing variability. | Backlog converts over the disclosed window with some rescheduling, normal cost inflation and mixed regional growth. |
| Downside | AI construction slows, financing or interconnection delays projects, incentives change, fuel economics weaken or dilution increases. | Orders are deferred or cancelled, backlog converts slowly, tariffs and supply costs compress margins, or technology changes reduce demand for selected products. |
For each case, calculate revenue, gross margin, operating income, operating cash flow, capital expenditure, net debt and diluted shares. Then apply the same valuation method to both companies. Sensitivity tables are more informative than a single target price: show what happens if revenue is 20% lower, margin is 500 basis points lower or the valuation multiple contracts.
A practical pre-investment checklist
- Date the information: record the filing date, share price timestamp and fiscal period for every input.
- Normalize definitions: distinguish GAAP from non-GAAP, product from service revenue and reported backlog from recognized sales.
- Trace the customer decision: document Bloom’s permitting, interconnection, financing and installation milestones or Vertiv’s order, production, shipment and acceptance milestones.
- Check concentration: review major customers, end markets and geographic exposure instead of assuming all AI spending is interchangeable.
- Model cash: include working capital, capital expenditure, debt service, customer financing and potential dilution.
- Stress the thesis: lower AI capex, delayed projects, cancelled orders, supply constraints, policy changes and margin compression should all have explicit effects.
- Refresh Vertiv’s current quarter: obtain the detailed 2026 second-quarter release before making a current-period growth, margin, EPS or guidance comparison.
- Calculate valuation last: use current, matched market data and state whether the denominator is trailing or forward.
How to reach a decision without forcing a winner
Choose Bloom when your analysis supports a specific, financeable case for distributed generation and you can tolerate project, policy, fuel and execution risk. Choose Vertiv only when its order and backlog conversion, margins, cash generation and valuation remain attractive after testing cancellations, supply costs and technology changes. It is also reasonable to conclude that neither stock offers a sufficient margin of safety at the price you observe.
The most important distinction is between business quality and stock attractiveness. Bloom may offer more direct sensitivity to the power bottleneck but also more project-level uncertainty. Vertiv may offer broader equipment exposure and a visible backlog but still face conversion, competition and execution risk. A fair comparison does not erase those differences; it prices them explicitly.
