Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), Qatar Investment Authority, GIC, Norges Bank Investment Management and Mubadala Investment Co. are reported to be seeking anchor allocations in Jio Platforms’ planned Indian IPO. BlackRock Inc. and FMR LLC are also reported to have shown interest, alongside about 15 domestic asset managers. The indications are not final allocations.

Who is seeking a place in Jio’s anchor book?

An Oct. 15, 2026 report said five large sovereign wealth or institutional investors were seeking allocations: ADIA, Qatar Investment Authority, GIC Pte. Ltd., Norges Bank Investment Management and Mubadala Investment Co. The same account said BlackRock Inc. and FMR LLC were pursuing positions, while roughly 15 Indian asset managers had submitted indications of interest.

These names reflect reported demand before the IPO opens to the broader market. An indication of interest is not a confirmed order, and it does not guarantee that an investor will receive shares or that the final allocation will match the amount requested.

Jio IPO: reported size, valuation and price bands

Item Oct. 15, 2026 report Reuters report, Oct. 9, 2026
Issue size or proceeds About ₹30,200 crore (₹302 billion), approximately $3.2 billion About ₹302 billion, approximately $3.1 billion, at the top of the band
Price band ₹1,069–₹1,119 per share ₹1,065–₹1,119 per share
Target valuation Not stated in this report ₹10.3 trillion, about $106 billion

The issue-size and dollar figures are rounded representations from reports published on different dates. The rupee amount is essentially the same in both accounts, while the dollar conversion differs. The lower end of the reported price band also moved from ₹1,065 to ₹1,069 between the Oct. 9 and Oct. 15 accounts; the upper end remained ₹1,119.

What an anchor investor is in an Indian IPO

An anchor investor is a qualified institutional buyer that receives an allocation before the public subscription period. The purpose is to establish institutional participation ahead of bidding by retail and non-institutional investors. Anchor investors are subject to the IPO’s allocation and lock-in framework, and their participation does not remove the risk that the share price may fall after listing.

For this offering, the reported structure allows up to 60% of the qualified-institutional-buyer portion to be allocated to anchor investors. Half of the anchor portion is reserved for domestic mutual funds. That reservation means overseas institutions cannot necessarily take the entire anchor allocation even if demand from them is strong.

How the Jio anchor process is expected to unfold

  1. Regulatory filing: Jio’s parent filed a red herring prospectus with India’s Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), according to the Oct. 15 report.
  2. Indications of interest: Institutions communicate the size and price at which they may participate. These expressions are preliminary, not binding evidence of final allocations.
  3. Anchor window: The anchor book opens before retail and non-institutional bidding. The issuer and book-running process determine which institutions receive shares and how many.
  4. Public subscription: Retail, non-institutional and other eligible investors then bid during the IPO’s stated subscription period. The reports cited here did not provide the public bidding dates.
  5. Final allocation and listing: The final prospectus and exchange notices establish the confirmed allocation, issue composition and listing timetable.

Why the reported figures differ

The two reports are not necessarily describing different offerings. Reuters’ Oct. 9 account and the Oct. 15 account use slightly different lower price-band figures and dollar conversions. A rupee issue amount converted into dollars can change with exchange rates and rounding, while an updated filing or marketing range can alter the lower end of a price band.

The valuation figure of ₹10.3 trillion, or about $106 billion, was attributed to Reuters’ Oct. 9 report. It is a target valuation based on the reported offer parameters, not a guaranteed post-listing market value. The final valuation depends on the confirmed offer price and the number and type of shares ultimately sold.

What remains unconfirmed

  • Whether each named institution will receive an anchor allocation.
  • The number of shares and rupee value assigned to every anchor.
  • The final split between primary shares and any secondary shares, which was not established in the reports cited here.
  • The exact opening, closing and listing dates for the public issue.
  • The final anchor-book size, which depends on the qualified-institutional-buyer portion and the issuer’s allocation decisions.

Investors should rely on the final SEBI-filed documents and exchange disclosures for those details rather than treating preliminary investor interest as a completed transaction.

What the reported demand means for investors

Interest from globally recognised institutions can signal that large buyers are evaluating the offering, but it is not a recommendation to buy. Anchor participation can improve visibility before subscription begins, yet it does not establish fair value, guarantee listing gains or protect against losses. Retail investors still need to examine Jio Platforms’ prospectus, use of proceeds, financial statements, risks, dilution and the final issue price before deciding whether to bid.
