Short answer: three UK suppliers stand out in the published information available for a small-business buyer: UK Feather Flags has the clearest four-height price ladder; Sailflags advertises UK manufacture, recycled fabric and design support; and Feather Flags Express is geared towards deadline-led orders. None can be declared an objectively best company from supplier pages alone. Compare a complete, like-for-like quote that includes the flag height, single- or double-sided print, pole, base, artwork, VAT, delivery and arrival date.
UK Feather Flags lists 2.8m flags from £79.95, 3.4m from £96.99, 4.5m from £119.99 and 5.6m from £139.99, plus VAT. Those are vendor-stated starting prices for specific configurations, not delivered market averages. Sailflags shows feather flags from £64, while Feather Flags Express shows a 2.8m product from £89; the displayed information does not make those figures directly comparable with the first supplier’s configured kit prices.

#1 Best Overall
What a “best” supplier means for a small business
A feather flag is a printed fabric graphic on a flexible pole, supported by a ground spike or a weighted base. The right supplier is the one whose complete order fits your site, budget and deadline. A low headline price can cease to be low after you add a hard-surface base, double-sided printing, VAT, artwork work and carriage.
Use six comparison axes:
- Total delivered price: compare identical height, print sides, pole, base, carry case, artwork, VAT and delivery.
- Site fit: check the available footprint, overhead clearance, pedestrian flow and whether a ground spike can be installed.
- Print specification: establish single- or double-sided construction, the artwork template, proofing process and any design assistance.
- Timing: separate artwork approval, production, dispatch and courier arrival. A production label is not a guaranteed delivery date.
- Order practicality: ask about minimum quantity, stock, replacement graphics and who will answer artwork questions.
- Evidence quality: distinguish supplier claims from independently tested performance. The published material here does not establish an objective winner.
UK Feather Flags: clearest published price ladder
UK Feather Flags provides the most explicit four-height pricing in the pages reviewed. Its figures are starting prices and are listed plus VAT. The lowest-price configuration is described as standard three-day production, single-sided printing and one ground spike; delivery is charged separately.
| Size label | Height | Starting price (plus VAT) | Published configuration notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small | 2.8m | £79.95 | Starting configuration uses single-sided print and a ground spike; double-sided printing is presented as an option. |
| Medium | 3.4m | £96.99 | Double-sided printing is presented as an option; confirm the selected base and delivery. |
| Large | 4.5m | £119.99 | Double-sided printing is presented as an option; confirm site clearance and base. |
| XL | 5.6m | £139.99 | The listing presents XL as single-sided; confirm the exact specification before ordering. |
The listed kit includes a custom printed flag, fibreglass pole, selected base and carry case. Free artwork help is offered. Because the base is selected as part of the order, do not assume that a ground spike, water base or weighted base is interchangeable between sizes.

The page shows Standard (3 Day), Express (Next Day) and Super Express (Same Day) production choices, subject to capacity and cut-off times. These labels describe production, not the time a parcel takes to reach you. The supplier says estimates are guidelines and courier timing is outside its control.
For an urgent order, ask the supplier to confirm four separate points in writing: capacity for your quantity, the artwork approval deadline, the date the flag will leave the facility and the expected arrival date to your postcode. Eligible Super Express orders may have same-day collection from the supplier’s Derbyshire facility, but collection is not the same as delivery and eligibility must be confirmed.
Sailflags: UK manufacture and design support
Sailflags states that its custom feather flags are made in the UK and highlights 100% recycled fabric, several sizes and base types, professional design support and artwork proofing. Its page displays feather flags from £64.

- Ideal for Gifting

- Compact for travelling
The £64 figure is a starting price, and the displayed information does not establish whether it includes the same pole, base, case, print side, VAT and delivery assumptions as the UK Feather Flags ladder. Treat it as a reason to request a quote, not as proof that a complete 2.8m or 3.4m kit costs £64.

Questions to put in a Sailflags quote request
- Which height and print-side option does the displayed starting price represent?
- Is the pole, carry case and chosen base included?
- Which base is recommended for grass, tarmac, paving or an indoor floor?
- What artwork file types, template and proofing stages are provided?
- What are the production, dispatch and delivery times to your postcode?
- Are VAT and delivery shown separately or included in the quoted total?
Feather Flags Express: useful when the arrival date drives the purchase
Feather Flags Express markets custom feather flags for UK businesses and events, with listed sizes and base options. Its deadline guidance asks for the required arrival date, quantity and postcode so the supplier can check available products and turnaround options. That is practical for a startup working backwards from a venue booking or opening day.
The surfaced product information shows a 2.8m flag from £89. Confirm current stock, the selected configuration, VAT and delivery before using that number in a budget. Ask for a written arrival commitment rather than treating a product page’s production speed as a guaranteed courier service.
Information to send for a time-critical quote
- State the date and local time the flags must be usable, not merely the date you would like them dispatched.
- Give the quantity and your complete delivery postcode.
- Specify the height, print sides and surface where each flag will stand.
- Attach finished artwork or ask for design support, and identify the person who can approve a proof immediately.
- Request the total including VAT, base, pole, case, artwork charges and delivery, plus the latest safe approval time.
Choose the height and base for the site, not the photo
Height and visibility
The four heights in the UK Feather Flags listing range from 2.8m to 5.6m. A taller flag can be easier to see over a forecourt or event crowd, but it also needs more overhead clearance and a base suited to the larger pole. Measure from the intended base position to the nearest awning, sign, tree branch, cable or ceiling before selecting XL.
For a shop entrance, check that the curved flag will not swing into a doorway or obstruct a queue. At a market pitch, map the flag’s footprint inside your allocated boundary. At a forecourt or roadside setting, keep the display away from vehicle paths and sight lines.
Ground spike versus weighted or water base
A ground spike is appropriate only where the surface and the site owner permit penetration. Paving, concrete, indoor floors and many rented forecourts require a weighted or water-filled base instead. A heavier base occupies more floor area, so measure that footprint and allow space for people to pass.
Rank #3
Vendor listings describe ground spikes and weighted or water bases, but compatibility varies by size and configuration. Have the supplier confirm that the selected base fits the exact pole and flag height. Do not buy a replacement base on the assumption that every brand uses the same socket or diameter.
Single-sided versus double-sided print
Single-sided printing is the lowest-price configuration identified in the UK Feather Flags listing. Double-sided options can be useful when visitors approach from both directions, but they change the quote and may affect how the graphic is constructed. Ask whether the back is mirrored, blocked out or a separate printed face, and request a proof showing how text will read on each side.
How to obtain a genuinely comparable quote
- Define the display: record height, number of flags, single- or double-sided print, preferred base and whether a carry case is required.
- Describe the surface: state grass, soil, tarmac, paving, concrete, indoor flooring or another surface, and provide a photo if the supplier requests one.
- Prepare artwork: use the supplier’s template where available. Supply vector artwork or the highest-resolution files you have, and identify brand colours and minimum text size.
- Set the deadline: give the required arrival date, postcode and the date by which you can approve a proof.
- Request an itemised total: ask for flag, pole, base, case, artwork, VAT, delivery and any rush charge as separate lines.
- Check the small print: confirm production begins only after proof approval, what happens if artwork is late, and whether the quoted delivery is an estimate or a guaranteed service.
- Approve and retain records: save the final proof, written specification, invoice and promised dates. They are useful if a replacement graphic or correction is needed.
- Inspect on arrival: check the print, stitching, pole sections, base fittings and case before the event. Assemble the kit in advance rather than discovering a missing connector on the day.
Budgeting: why starting prices are not your final cost
For a UK-registered business, the relevant cash payment is the supplier’s quoted price plus VAT where VAT is charged, delivery and any selected upgrades. A displayed “from” price may represent the smallest height, single-sided print and a basic spike. A hard-surface location can require a weighted base; a two-way approach can justify double-sided print; and a deadline can require an express production option.
Build a comparison sheet with one row per supplier and these columns: height, print sides, flag fabric, pole, base type, carry case, artwork assistance, production time, dispatch date, delivery service, VAT, delivery charge and total. Leave a cell as “not stated” until the supplier answers; do not fill gaps with assumptions.
For cash-flow planning, ask whether the quote is one-off or recurring, whether replacement graphics can be purchased without another pole, and whether a damaged component is covered by the supplier’s terms. No independent evidence in the published material establishes expected lifespan or replacement frequency, so do not model a return on investment from an assumed number of event uses.
Planning permission and display safety
GOV.UK’s Flying flags: a plain English guide, updated 20 July 2021, applies to England. It treats flag flying as advertising for planning purposes and groups flags into categories that may need no consent, deemed consent subject to restrictions, or express consent. A branded feather flag is not automatically exempt merely because it carries a business name; the category, placement and restrictions matter.
Rank #4
The England guidance includes conditions such as keeping the flag safe and visually maintained, obtaining the site owner’s permission and not obscuring or making hazardous the use of transport signs. If your location is in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, the England guide does not establish the applicable rules. Check the relevant local planning authority and local rules for your nation.
Recommended Free Tools
GOV.UK’s practical advice is: “If you are unclear about whether consent is required for flying a flag, you should contact your local planning authority who can provide detailed advice.” Make that check before ordering a non-refundable printed display, particularly for a pavement, roadside or rented site.

Comparing unlike prices
Problem: one supplier quotes a flag-only starting price while another includes a pole and base. Fix: request the same height, print sides, hardware, VAT and delivery in every quote.
Confusing production with arrival
Problem: “next day” production is read as next-day delivery. Fix: obtain separate artwork approval, production, dispatch and arrival dates, with capacity confirmed for your quantity.
Choosing a spike for a hard surface
Problem: the included ground spike cannot be installed at the venue. Fix: describe the surface before ordering and select a compatible weighted or water base.

Approving artwork too late
Problem: a production slot expires while the logo is being corrected. Fix: nominate one approver, use the supplier template and approve a proof in writing by the stated cut-off.
Assuming replacement parts are universal
Problem: a replacement graphic or base does not fit the existing pole. Fix: record the supplier, height and pole system, and confirm compatibility before purchasing a spare.
When a kit from a marketplace makes sense
“Feather flag kit” is the relevant product phrase for the physical display: a printed flag, pole, selected base and carry case. A marketplace purchase can be considered only after checking that a current UK listing supports custom printing and includes the required hardware. Verify height, base stability, delivery date, VAT treatment, artwork proofing and replacement-part compatibility. Current marketplace inventory and a specific suitable listing were not established in the published material, so do not treat an unverified listing as a recommendation.
Which supplier should you contact first?
Choose UK Feather Flags when you need transparent size options
Start here if you want four clearly published heights and a visible progression from 2.8m to 5.6m. Use the listed prices as a baseline, then add VAT, delivery and the exact base or print-side option you need.
Choose Sailflags when UK manufacture and design support matter
Request a full quote if stated UK manufacture, recycled fabric and professional proofing are priorities. The £64 starting price needs configuration details before it can be compared with a complete kit elsewhere.
Choose Feather Flags Express when the date is the constraint
Provide the arrival date, quantity and postcode so the supplier can check options. Obtain written confirmation of the complete order and arrival date before relying on the display for a fixed event.
Bottom-line buying decision
For most small businesses, the sensible process is to request matched written quotes from all three suppliers, then select the kit that fits the site and arrives with enough contingency. UK Feather Flags offers the clearest published price ladder; Sailflags offers stated UK manufacture and design support; Feather Flags Express focuses on checking deadline-sensitive availability. The evidence does not justify a universal winner, and a starting price alone is not a fair comparison.
