For most U.S. households, the best low-cost Netflix replacement is the Disney+ and Hulu bundle at a listed $12.99 per month, provided you will watch both services and can accept ads. If your household also wants Max, the Disney+, Hulu and Max bundle is listed at $19.99 per month and has the largest dollar saving in the comparison. Neither choice is automatically cheaper than keeping one service: the right test is whether every included catalog earns its place in your actual lineup.

The prices below are dated U.S. snapshots from July 12, 2026, and provider pricing can change. Hulu and Disney+ announced subscription-price changes effective September 23, 2026, with existing subscribers potentially seeing changes on or after October 21, 2026. Check the final checkout screen for the exact tier, advertising, simultaneous-stream limits and cancellation terms before paying.

The bundle shortlist

These are the principal combinations identified in the July 12, 2026 comparison. “Savings” means the difference between the listed bundle price and the listed price of buying the same services separately; it is not a guarantee of the price you will see at checkout.

Bundle Listed price Listed separate price Listed monthly saving Best fit Important limitation
Disney+ and Hulu $12.99/month $23.98/month $10.99/month Families and households mixing family and general entertainment Ad-supported tier; poor value if either service goes unused
Disney+, Hulu and Max $19.99/month $34.97/month $14.98/month Households wanting family programming, broad entertainment and prestige film or television Only worthwhile when all three catalogs are wanted
Apple TV+ and Peacock $14.99/month $23.98/month $8.99/month Viewers who want Apple originals plus NBCUniversal programming and selected sports Current enrollment and tier details require direct provider verification
Starz, AMC+ and MGM+ $21.99/month $29.97/month $7.98/month Viewers specifically seeking premium-network catalogs Narrower replacement for a general service such as Netflix
Starz and MGM+ $13.99/month $18.98/month $4.99/month People who already know they want both catalogs Not a broad Netflix replacement

On the listed figures, the Disney+ and Hulu bundle would save $131.88 over 12 months compared with the listed separate prices ($287.76 versus $155.88). The three-service bundle would save $179.76 over a year ($419.64 separately versus $239.88 bundled). Those annual figures simply multiply the dated monthly snapshot; they do not account for later price changes, taxes, promotions or months when you cancel.

What makes a bundle a real saving

A bundle reduces your bill only when it replaces services you would otherwise keep. A large percentage discount can still increase spending if it adds a service you would not subscribe to on its own.

Start with the household watchlist

  1. Write down the specific series, films, franchises, sports, news or channels each person intends to watch in the next three months.
  2. Assign each item to the service that carries it and mark whether it is a must-watch or merely occasional filler.
  3. Remove services with no committed viewing. Do not count a catalog as valuable just because it is large.
  4. Compare the bundle with the services you would actually retain, not with the theoretical total of every included service.

Disney+ is strongest for Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars programming. Hulu adds adult-oriented and current-network programming. Max is aimed at HBO, Warner Bros. and other prestige television and film. Apple TV+ concentrates on exclusive originals. Peacock adds NBCUniversal programming and selected live sports. The practical winner depends on which of those descriptions matches your list.

Compare equivalent advertising tiers

The $12.99 Disney+ and Hulu figure is for an ad-supported bundle. Comparing it with an ad-free standalone plan exaggerates the apparent saving. Record whether each option includes advertising, downloads, picture quality, simultaneous streams and any restrictions that matter to your household. If you require ad-free viewing, recalculate using the ad-free tier rather than accepting the lowest headline price.

Separate monthly price from commitment

A monthly plan gives you the option to stop after a series ends, but a discounted annual plan can be cheaper only if you will keep it for the full term. Before choosing an annual commitment, identify the months in which you expect to watch the service. A bundle that is inexpensive for two active months may be wasteful for the other ten.

How the leading options differ

Disney+ and Hulu: the broad low-cost starting point

At the listed $12.99 per month, this is the strongest low-cost broad bundle in the reviewed U.S. snapshot when both services are wanted. It combines family franchises with adult and current-network programming, so it can serve different age groups without requiring a third service.

The trade-off is the ad-supported tier and the risk of paying for one half of the bundle that nobody watches. If a household needs only Disney+ for children or only Hulu for current shows, buying both is not a saving. Check the exact plan name at checkout because provider pricing and tier names changed during September 2026.

Disney+, Hulu and Max: the highest dollar discount

The listed $19.99 monthly price is $14.98 below the listed $34.97 separate total, the largest dollar saving among the reviewed combinations. It adds HBO, Warner Bros. and prestige programming to the family and general-entertainment catalogs.

Do not choose it solely because the discount is larger. If Max is the only service you want, a three-service bundle costs more than subscribing to Max alone. It becomes compelling when all three services have planned viewing, such as family programming on Disney+, current or adult shows on Hulu, and a specific Max series or film slate.

Apple TV+ and Peacock: originals, NBCUniversal and selected sports

The comparison lists this combination at $14.99 per month, or $8.99 below the listed separate total. Apple TV+ is oriented around exclusive originals, while Peacock supplies NBCUniversal programming and selected live sports.

This price was reported in a secondary bundle guide rather than a directly readable enrollment page. Verify that the offer is still open, which tiers it includes, whether advertising applies and whether the sports content is available in your location before treating the listed saving as current.

Starz, AMC+ and MGM+: a specialist premium-network mix

The three-service combination is listed at $21.99 per month, compared with $29.97 separately. It can make sense for viewers who already have a specific list of Starz, AMC+ and MGM+ programs, but the catalogs are narrower as a general replacement for Netflix. If you do not have titles in all three services, the Disney+/Hulu combinations offer a broader household fit in the reviewed prices.

Starz and MGM+: use only for a defined two-catalog need

At a listed $13.99 per month, this pairing saves $4.99 against the listed separate total. It is best treated as a targeted subscription for people who want both catalogs, not as an all-purpose family package. The smaller discount also means there is less room for an unused service to hide inside the bundle.

Putting the prices in perspective

Streaming bills have become large enough that a few unused services can rival a traditional utility payment. Kiplinger reported Bureau of Labor Statistics data showing subscription and rental prices for video and video games rose roughly 25% between March 2024 and March 2026. The same coverage cited Deloitte’s estimate that the average U.S. household spends $69 per month, or $828 per year, on video-on-demand subscriptions. A Tom’s Guide survey published in June 2026 found more than 35% of respondents paying over $60 per month.

Streaming remains widespread, but it is no longer automatically inexpensive: Pew Research Center figures reported by Kiplinger put U.S. adult streaming use at 83%, while 36% have cable or satellite television. Dan Rayburn, a streaming-video-industry analyst, summarized the trend: “We’ll continue to see pricing going up for all streaming services, live and on demand.” A dated price check is therefore part of the decision, not an optional extra.

On-demand bundles versus live-TV services

An on-demand bundle cannot replace a live-TV package when you need local channels, continuous news, a broad live sports schedule or a channel grid. Treat these as different products rather than assuming a cheaper entertainment bundle covers the same need.

Service type Reported price or range What it is designed to provide
Hulu + Live TV $89.99/month, with more than 95 channels Live channels alongside on-demand programming
YouTube TV $82.99/month Live-channel replacement for households that need a broad lineup
Sling $19.99 to $60.99/month, depending on package More customizable live-channel packages

The figures above are reported prices and ranges cited by Kiplinger, not like-for-like equivalents to the $12.99 or $19.99 on-demand bundles. If live sports is the reason you are keeping Netflix alternatives or a cable package, price the live option separately and check local-channel availability.

How to lower the bill beyond choosing a bundle

Rotate subscriptions instead of stacking them

Rotation means subscribing during the months when a desired show, movie slate or sports season is active, then cancelling until the next need. Christopher Hamilton, industry insights manager at Parrot Analytics, calls the ability to “easily drop and resubscribe for a period without penalty” the major advantage of streaming.

  1. Choose one or two priority services for the current month.
  2. Make a short watchlist and finish the items that justified the subscription.
  3. Cancel before the next billing date if no new viewing need is scheduled.
  4. Set a calendar reminder for the next premiere or sports season instead of leaving the service running.
  5. Recheck the current price and tier when you return; a former price or promotion may no longer exist.

Rotation is particularly effective when one service supplies a limited series and another supplies a seasonal sports schedule. It avoids paying concurrently for catalogs that are not being used.

Check memberships you already pay for

Prime Video is included with an Amazon Prime membership, so calculate the incremental streaming cost before adding another standalone subscription. Qualifying Walmart+ members may receive a choice of Paramount+ Essential or Peacock Premium with ads. These are membership benefits, not universally free subscriptions: eligibility, choice restrictions and current terms must be confirmed in the account before you cancel a paid service.

Use free ad-supported services for filler viewing

Tubi, The Roku Channel and Pluto TV provide free ad-supported programming. Some local libraries also provide television and films through Hoopla. These services may not carry a particular Netflix original or new release, but they can cover casual viewing and reduce the temptation to keep a paid service active solely for background entertainment.

A step-by-step bill audit

  1. List every charge. Review the last two or three bank or card statements and record each streaming, live-TV and membership charge, including bundles billed through an app store or another provider.
  2. Identify duplicate access. Check whether a service is already included in Amazon Prime, Walmart+ or another membership you pay for.
  3. Mark actual use. For each service, write the last program watched and the next program anyone intends to watch. “Maybe later” is not a current viewing plan.
  4. Normalize the tiers. Note ads, resolution, downloads, simultaneous streams and billing term so you compare equivalent products.
  5. Choose one active bundle. Start with Disney+ and Hulu when both catalogs match the watchlist; consider the three-service option only when Max has committed viewing.
  6. Schedule cancellations. Put the renewal date and the next planned reactivation date on a calendar.
  7. Verify checkout. Confirm the final price, taxes if shown, advertising, stream limits and cancellation process before completing enrollment.

Common mistakes and how to fix them

Choosing the biggest percentage discount

Problem: The bundle appears inexpensive compared with three separate plans, but one service is never opened. Fix: Compare the bundle with the services you would actually keep and remove any catalog without a scheduled use.

Comparing ad-supported and ad-free prices

Problem: A low headline price is treated as equivalent to an ad-free plan. Fix: Compare matching tiers and include the value of downloads, picture quality and stream limits that your household requires.

Assuming an on-demand bundle replaces live television

Problem: You cancel a live-TV service and then discover that local channels or sports are missing. Fix: Decide first whether the requirement is on-demand entertainment or live channels, then price the appropriate category.

Leaving every service active year-round

Problem: A household pays for several catalogs while watching only one. Fix: Rotate subscriptions and use calendar reminders around premieres and seasons.

Trusting an old price

Problem: The checkout amount differs from a comparison article or a previous bill. Fix: Treat the July 12, 2026 bundle figures as a dated snapshot. Hulu and Disney+ announced changes on September 23, 2026, and existing accounts may see changes on or after October 21, 2026; verify before submitting payment.

Best choice by household type

Your priority Most suitable starting point Decision test
Lowest-cost broad replacement Disney+ and Hulu Both services have planned viewing and ads are acceptable
Family, general entertainment and prestige shows Disney+, Hulu and Max All three catalogs have specific titles on the watchlist
Originals plus NBCUniversal programming or selected sports Apple TV+ and Peacock Provider confirms the current offer, tier and sports availability
Already paying for Amazon Prime Prime Video benefit Count only the incremental cost of any additional plan
Already paying for Walmart+ Check the included Paramount+ Essential or Peacock Premium choice Confirm eligibility and whether ads apply
Local channels, news or broad live sports Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV or Sling Compare channel lineup and regional availability, not just monthly price

Final decision rule

Choose Disney+ and Hulu when both services match your household’s near-term watchlist and the ad-supported tier is acceptable. Choose Disney+, Hulu and Max only when Max has enough planned viewing to justify the extra $7 per month over the two-service bundle in the listed snapshot. Choose the other combinations for defined catalog needs, not because their names appear in a discount table.

The most reliable way to reduce a streaming bill is a three-part system: buy a bundle only for services you will use, rotate subscriptions when a season ends, and use membership benefits or free ad-supported services for occasional viewing. Recheck the price at checkout and again when your account renews, because the saving is real only at the tier and date you actually pay for.
