The right choice depends on whether you are sending one personal payment, mailing recurring consumer bills, paying vendors from QuickBooks Online, or outsourcing a high-volume fulfillment run. Compare the complete cost per check, processing cutoff, postal class, delivery evidence, recipient-address limits, accounting integration, approval controls and cancellation policy—not just the advertised printing fee.
The services discussed below publish different definitions of “same day,” “tracking” and “delivery.” A provider may print and hand a check to the carrier the same day without the recipient receiving it that day. USPS Certified Mail supplies a receipt and tracking history, but USPS says it travels as ordinary mail. USPS Tracking does not speed up or guarantee delivery.

How to choose a check-mailing service
Start with the payment you need to make, not with a provider’s feature list. An occasional personal payment has different requirements from a company sending hundreds of vendor checks from an accounting system.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Identify the payee and destination. Confirm whether the recipient is in the United States, accepts a PO Box, or is outside the country. Some expedited methods exclude PO Boxes or remote ZIP codes.
- Set the required arrival window. Separate the provider’s print-and-mail cutoff from postal transit. “Mailed today” means processing is complete; it is not a promise of delivery today.
- Decide what proof you need. A carrier scan, a mailing receipt, delivery or attempted-delivery verification, and a signature are different records.
- Calculate the full transaction cost. Include subscriptions or minimums, check production, postage, tracking or signature add-ons, expedited shipping, international fees and correction or reissue charges.
- Check workflow and controls. Businesses may need QuickBooks Online synchronization, multiple approvers, audit history, check copies, bank Positive Pay support or the ability to cancel before mailing.
- Ask whether a check is necessary. If the payee accepts ACH or another electronic method, compare speed, cost, manual work and fraud exposure before choosing paper.
No provider-neutral test establishes a universal winner for reliability, loss rate or on-time delivery. The prices, cutoff times and security features below are vendor-reported page content reviewed October 13, 2026, and can change.

What tracking actually tells you
Certified Mail: evidence, not special handling
The USPS PostalPro Certified Mail Guidebook, published May 10, 2024, defines Certified Mail as an extra service that gives the sender a mailing receipt and tracking history, with electronic verification on request that the piece was delivered or that a delivery attempt was made. USPS also says Certified Mail is handled in transit as ordinary mail. It creates evidence about mailing and delivery status; it does not automatically make the envelope faster or theft-proof.
First-Class letters are not automatically trackable
USPS says First-Class Mail letters and flats are not eligible for USPS Tracking by themselves. An eligible extra service, such as Certified Mail, can add tracking information. USPS Tracking reports status information but does not expedite or guarantee delivery. Therefore, ask the provider whether its “tracking” means carrier scans, a notice that the item was accepted, delivery or attempted-delivery verification, a signature, or merely an internal status update.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesHow to read a delivery promise
Checkbook’s support information illustrates the distinction: it lists First Class as 3–8 business days with coarse tracking, Certified as 2–5 business days with coarse tracking, and 2 Day and Overnight as detailed-tracking options. Those are stated service estimates and feature descriptions, not a guarantee that every recipient will receive a check within that interval. Expedited or Certified choices may require a discussion of plan availability.
Processing cutoffs versus postal transit
Two providers publish explicit same-day processing cutoffs:
Rank #2
- Ideal for Gifting
- Ideal for a bookworm
- Compact for travelling
- Checkrun says payments ready before 11 a.m. Pacific can be printed and mailed the same day.
- Checkeeper says qualifying priority orders received before 4 p.m. Eastern, Monday through Friday, are mailed the same day.
Check Supply says orders before 3 p.m. Eastern are processed the same business day. Bank of America’s check-order shipping page gives an 11 a.m. local-time, Monday–Friday deadline for Overnight and 2 Day methods and says to allow one to two business days for check printing with other delivery methods.
None of these cutoffs establishes the recipient’s delivery date. Weekends, holidays, address corrections, payment approval, printing queues and the carrier’s transit time occur after—or sometimes before—the handoff. Place an order earlier than the cutoff when a due date matters, and retain the provider’s acceptance record.

Security: what a mailing service can and cannot prevent
Why paper checks remain exposed
The United States Postal Inspection Service describes check washing as changing the payee name and often the dollar amount on a stolen check. Checks may be taken from collection boxes or residential mailboxes before alteration. The Postal Inspection Service reported 20,574 reports of high-volume mail theft from mail receptacles in fiscal year 2019 and 49,146 in fiscal year 2023, a 139% increase. These are reports, not the probability that a particular check will be stolen.
A separate Postal Inspection Service page says Postal Inspectors recover more than $1 billion in counterfeit checks and money orders each year. That recovery figure is not a loss estimate for mailed checks and does not translate into a per-check risk rate.
Practical steps for senders
- Deposit outgoing mail before the last scheduled pickup rather than leaving it overnight.
- Retrieve incoming mail promptly and use a hold while you are away.
- Use a staffed post office or another secure handoff when the payment is high value or time-sensitive.
- Keep the check number, amount, payee, mailing date and any tracking or receipt number.
- Ask the recipient to confirm when the envelope arrives and to report suspicious alterations.
If a mailed check may have been stolen, contact your bank immediately. Depending on whether it has been cashed, the bank may discuss a stop-payment order, account-security measures and an investigation. Report suspected mail theft or fraud to the Postal Inspection Service. No provider’s security paper, encryption, sealed envelope or tracking claim guarantees that a check cannot be stolen, intercepted or altered; treat those statements as the provider’s descriptions rather than independent audits.

Service-by-service details
Check Supply for occasional personal payments
Check Supply describes a consumer-oriented, pay-per-check service for people who do not want to write from a checkbook or print at home. Its page lists a $6.99 First-Class check and higher fees for tracked or expedited mailing choices. The page also describes status notifications, recurring or scheduled payments and a bank connection using Plaid.
Because the displayed amount is a provider-reported price, confirm the total at checkout. A bank connection does not mean the provider has been independently audited, and the page’s security or data-handling claims should be read as its own description. Verify domestic recipient coverage, the exact postal class, the processing cutoff and what status information you will receive.
Checkrun for QuickBooks Online workflows
Checkrun is aimed at businesses that want to create and approve checks in a controlled workflow. Its pages describe QuickBooks Online integration, approval and signature steps, check copies, audit trails and Positive Pay. It also describes using existing, preprinted or blank security-feature check stock for local printing in some workflows.
Its published pricing is inconsistent across the reviewed pages: one service FAQ says monthly and annual members can use Print and Mail for a discounted $1.95 per check, while a features page says same-day Print and Mail is $1.75 per check. The available material does not resolve whether those figures apply to different plans or contexts. Confirm the current membership, per-check rate, cutoff time zone, cancellation window and supported bank controls before committing.
Checkeeper for fulfillment and larger runs
Checkeeper displays $1.50 per check with bulk discounts and says qualifying priority orders received before 4 p.m. Eastern on weekdays are mailed the same day. It describes First-Class mailing, custom high-volume fulfillment and a typical USPS First-Class delivery estimate of one to four business days. Its page also says checks drawn on US- or Canada-based banks can be mailed internationally for an additional stated fee.
Rank #4
The one-to-four-day figure is a provider-published estimate, not a guarantee. Request a current quote for your volume and destination, and ask what tracking or delivery evidence is included. Confirm whether your bank, accounting software and approval process are supported.
Bank check-order shipping
If your actual need is to order a new supply of checks from your bank, a bank shipping page may be more relevant than a payment-fulfillment platform. Bank of America’s page describes CheckProtect as trackable and tamper-evident and says it is compatible with PO Boxes. It lists Overnight and 2 Day methods with an 11 a.m. local-time weekday order deadline, but excludes PO Boxes from those expedited methods and notes ZIP-code and remote-location restrictions.
The page says to allow one to two business days for check printing with other delivery methods. Check-stock shipment is not the same as sending a completed payment: you still write, sign and mail each check, and the stock’s features do not eliminate check-washing risk.
Checkbook when you need several delivery speeds
Checkbook’s support page provides a useful menu of postal options: First Class, Certified, 2 Day and Overnight. The stated transit estimates and tracking granularity differ by option, and expedited or Certified choices may depend on plan availability or a sales discussion. Ask what carrier service is actually used, whether the estimate includes printing time, and whether “detailed” tracking includes acceptance, movement and delivery events.
Cost comparison: calculate the delivered payment
Published print fees are not directly comparable because they may include different postage, plans or service levels. Use this formula for each candidate:
Best Value
- It can be a gift option
- Comes with secure packaging
- Helpful in various ways
Total cost per delivered check = subscription or minimum allocation + printing fee + postage + tracking or signature extras + expedited or international surcharge + expected correction/reissue cost.
| Published item | Amount or timing | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Check Supply First-Class check | $6.99 | Provider-displayed fee; higher-cost tracked and expedited choices are also shown. Confirm current price and coverage at checkout. |
| Checkrun Print and Mail | $1.75 or $1.95 per check | Conflicting provider pages; the reviewed material does not establish which plan or context applies. |
| Checkeeper | $1.50 per check | Provider-displayed price; bulk discounts apply and current quote may vary by volume or destination. |
| Checkbook First Class | 3–8 business days | Provider-stated estimate with coarse tracking; not a delivery guarantee. |
| Checkbook Certified | 2–5 business days | Provider-stated estimate with coarse tracking; confirm plan availability. |
Do not infer that the lowest printed fee is the lowest delivered cost. A $1.50 check that requires a subscription, extra postage or a reissue can cost more than a higher all-in price. Conversely, paying for Overnight is wasteful if the recipient accepts a slower method and the due date allows it.
When ACH is a better answer
The CPA.com AP Payment Methods Best Practices Guide compares checks and ACH using speed, cost, manual effort and security. Use that framework with the payee’s rules. A vendor that requires a paper check leaves little choice, but a landlord, contractor or supplier that accepts ACH may receive funds faster with fewer physical-mail risks.
- Choose a check service when the recipient requires paper, cannot receive ACH, needs a signed instrument, or your organization’s control process is built around checks.
- Choose ACH when the recipient accepts it, bank details can be verified safely, and speed or lower manual handling matters more than issuing a paper instrument.
- Document the recipient’s preference and retain confirmation for either method.
DIY local printing: who should consider it
Local printing can make sense for a business that already has compatible accounting software, a reliable printer and staff who can protect blank stock. Checkrun says its setup can use existing check stock, preprinted stock or blank stock with security features. If you search for blank laser check stock, treat it as a consumable, not as a complete security solution.
- Confirm the stock format matches your accounting software and printer.
- Ask your bank whether the layout and MICR requirements are accepted.
- Store unused stock in a locked location and restrict access to authorized staff.
- Reconcile every printed check and securely destroy spoiled sheets.
- Do not assume a security feature prevents mail theft or guarantees acceptance.
A decision checklist before you send
- Does the recipient accept a check, and is a paper instrument actually required?
- Is the destination domestic, international, a PO Box or a remote address?
- What is the latest acceptable arrival date, and how much buffer do you have?
- What is the provider’s processing cutoff and time zone?
- Which postal class will be used, and what does its tracking record prove?
- Is a mailing receipt, delivery attempt, signature or only a status notification included?
- What is the all-in cost, including subscription, postage, tracking, rush and reissue charges?
- For business use, do you need accounting integration, approvals, audit history, check copies or Positive Pay?
- Can you cancel or stop the check before mailing, and what happens if the address is wrong?
- What will you do if the check is delayed, lost, stolen or altered?
Bottom line: match the service to the payment
For a single personal payment, a pay-per-check service such as Check Supply may be convenient if its current fee, bank connection and domestic coverage fit your needs. For QuickBooks Online vendor workflows, Checkrun’s described approvals, records and Positive Pay integration are relevant, but confirm the conflicting $1.75 and $1.95 per-check prices. For fulfillment, Checkeeper publishes a $1.50-per-check price, bulk discounts and a 4 p.m. Eastern same-day mailing cutoff, subject to its terms. If you are only ordering check stock, review the bank’s shipping restrictions instead of choosing a payment platform. Use Certified Mail when you need mailing and delivery evidence, not because it is faster. Finally, compare ACH whenever the payee accepts it.
