Best no-annual-fee credit cards in India for everyday spending (2026 guide)

For most Amazon-heavy shoppers, the Amazon Pay ICICI Bank Credit Card is the clearest genuinely no-annual-fee option in this shortlist. ICICI Bank lists no joining fee and no annual fee, with rewards that vary by Prime status and purchase route. Its application is invite-only, however, so it is not universally available.

Axis Bank NEO can be cheaper for people who repeatedly use its Zomato, Paytm, Blinkit and BookMyShow offers, but its ₹250 joining fee and ₹250 annual fee from year two are waived for lifetime-free applicants only through selected channels. HDFC Bank Millennia is a cashback card with a broader merchant list, not an unconditional no-fee card: its ₹1,000 joining and renewal fees (plus applicable taxes) are waived after ₹1 lakh of eligible annual spending before renewal.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

The right choice depends on where you spend, whether you can obtain a fee-free offer, and whether you pay the statement balance in full. Reward percentages alone do not determine value.

Shortlist at a glance

Card Recurring fee position Everyday rewards or offers Access and key qualification Best suited to
Amazon Pay ICICI Bank Credit Card No joining fee and no annual fee, according to ICICI Bank Up to 5% on Amazon purchases for Prime members; 3% for non-Prime members; 2% at 100+ Amazon Pay partner merchants through the specified Amazon Pay route; 1% on other spends Invite-only application programme; ICICI lists age and indicative income requirements People who buy on Amazon and can use Amazon Pay balance rewards
Axis Bank NEO Credit Card ₹250 joining fee and ₹250 annual fee from year two; lifetime-free terms apply through select channels Merchant-specific discounts at Zomato, Paytm, Blinkit and BookMyShow, with minimum spends and caps Confirm the exact fee offer shown in the application channel Users who regularly trigger the listed merchant offers
HDFC Bank Millennia Credit Card ₹1,000 plus applicable taxes for joining and renewal; renewal waived after ₹1 lakh spend in the preceding year 5% cashback at named merchants and 1% on other spends, subject to terms and exclusions Approval, limit and fee waiver depend on HDFC criteria and eligible spend Higher-spend cashback users who can meet the waiver threshold

This is a focused comparison of issuer terms available on 13 October 2026, not a claim that these are India’s only or objectively best cards. Fees, eligibility, caps and offers can change, so check the live application page immediately before applying.

What “no annual fee” really means

An annual-fee label addresses one recurring charge only. It does not remove interest, late-payment penalties, cash-withdrawal fees, foreign-exchange costs, taxes or charges for other services. The comparison below assumes you pay the statement balance in full by the due date; carrying a balance can cost far more than any reward.

Three different fee situations

  • Unconditional fee-free: ICICI Bank says the Amazon Pay card has no joining or annual fee on its product page.
  • Channel-dependent lifetime-free: Axis Bank’s NEO fee table still shows ₹250 joining and ₹250 annual charges from the second year, while selected application channels may display lifetime-free terms. A generic “lifetime free” advertisement is not enough; save the offer shown in your own application journey.
  • Spend-waiver: HDFC Millennia charges ₹1,000 plus applicable taxes for joining and renewal, then waives the renewal fee when the cardholder spends at least ₹1 lakh in the year before renewal. That is a waiver candidate, not an inherently fee-free card.

Amazon Pay ICICI Bank Credit Card: strongest fit for Amazon spending

Rewards and how they are delivered

ICICI Bank describes a tiered reward structure:

  • Up to 5% rewards on Amazon purchases for Amazon Prime members.
  • 3% on Amazon purchases for non-Prime members.
  • 2% at more than 100 Amazon Pay partner merchants when the specified Amazon Pay payment route is used.
  • 1% on other spends.

Rewards are credited as Amazon Pay balance rather than as a statement credit or unrestricted cash. That makes the headline percentage most valuable to someone who routinely spends that balance on Amazon or eligible Amazon Pay services. If you rarely use Amazon, the 1% “other spends” rate is the more relevant number.

Fees and availability

ICICI Bank lists no joining fee and no annual fee. The application programme is invite-only, so an applicant cannot assume that the card will appear for every Indian customer. ICICI’s page lists Indian citizenship and a minimum age of 21. It gives indicative monthly income thresholds of ₹20,000 for salaried applicants and ₹30,000 for self-employed applicants. These are not approval guarantees: the bank’s credit assessment, documentation and internal criteria still apply.

Who should choose it

  • Prime members with substantial Amazon purchases should first compare their expected 5% reward against the value of Amazon Pay balance they will actually use.
  • Non-Prime shoppers can still benefit from the 3% Amazon rate, but should not assume the Prime rate applies.
  • People whose spending is mostly outside Amazon should evaluate the 1% base reward and the usability of wallet credit before applying.

Axis Bank NEO: useful only when the merchant offers match your routine

Current listed offers

Axis Bank’s NEO page lists the following benefits, each subject to its qualifying transaction rules:

Merchant or service Issuer-listed benefit Conditions and cap
Zomato ₹120 off Minimum order ₹499; up to twice per month
Paytm mobile, broadband and DTH bills 5% off Minimum payment ₹299; maximum discount ₹150 per month
Blinkit 10% off Minimum spend ₹750; maximum discount ₹250 once per month
BookMyShow movie purchases 10% off Maximum discount ₹100 per month

These are targeted discounts, not a universal cashback rate. A cardholder who orders Zomato once a month at the qualifying amount may capture one benefit; a household that does not use the listed merchants may receive little or nothing. Check whether each offer applies to your payment method, transaction type and billing cycle before assigning it a rupee value.

Fee status and an expired benefit

Axis lists a ₹250 joining fee and a ₹250 annual fee from the second year. The same fee information says lifetime-free terms are available through selected channels. Because the free status depends on the channel, verify the exact fee language in the application confirmation and retain a copy.

Axis also showed a Dining Delights benefit valid only through 30 July 2026. As of this guide’s 13 October 2026 terms date, it should not be treated as a current offer. Recheck the live offer page for any replacement benefit.

Other charges

Axis lists finance charges of 3.75% per month, alongside cash-withdrawal and overdue-payment charges. The monthly rate is not a reason to carry a balance for rewards: interest can quickly exceed the value of every discount in the table.

HDFC Bank Millennia: broad cashback with a spend-based waiver

Cashback categories

HDFC Bank lists 5% cashback at Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, Tata CLiQ, Swiggy, Zomato, Uber, BookMyShow, Sony LIV and Cult.fit, and 1% on other spends. The named-merchant rate is subject to detailed terms. HDFC’s reward information also identifies transaction types that do not earn reward points, so a qualifying brand name alone does not guarantee cashback for every payment method or product.

How the fee waiver works

HDFC’s fee page lists a ₹1,000 joining fee and a ₹1,000 renewal fee, both plus applicable taxes. The renewal charge is waived after at least ₹1 lakh of spending in the year before renewal. Plan against the bank’s definition of eligible spend and the renewal date rather than assuming every transaction counts. If you will not reliably reach ₹1 lakh, include the full fee in your value calculation.

Who gets the most value

Millennia can suit a cardholder who concentrates significant spending at its named merchants and can comfortably meet the annual waiver threshold. Someone with modest or scattered spending may earn cashback but still pay the renewal fee, making an unconditional no-fee card a safer comparison.

Compare cards by your actual spending pattern

Amazon-centred household

Start with the Amazon Pay ICICI card if you can obtain an invitation. Use the Prime or non-Prime rate that actually applies, then estimate how much of the resulting Amazon Pay balance you will redeem. Do not substitute the 5% Prime figure if you are not a Prime member.

Frequent food delivery, quick commerce and bill payments

NEO may outperform a flat-rate card when you trigger its Zomato, Blinkit and Paytm discounts every month. Add the monthly caps rather than multiplying the percentage by all spending. For example, the Blinkit benefit stops at ₹250 in a month, so spending substantially above the ₹750 qualifying amount does not create unlimited savings.

Large, diversified online spending

Millennia’s 5% merchant list is broader than NEO’s discount set, but the ₹1 lakh annual waiver hurdle matters. Calculate eligible annual spend, subtract any transactions excluded by HDFC’s terms, and compare the resulting cashback with ₹1,000 plus taxes if the waiver is missed.

Mostly offline or unlisted purchases

Use the ordinary-spend rate rather than the promotional headline: 1% for Amazon Pay ICICI outside its higher-rate categories and 1% on other spends for Millennia. NEO’s value is concentrated in its named offers, so it may not be appropriate as a general-purpose card for unlisted merchants.

A practical value calculation

  1. List twelve months of spending by merchant and payment type. Separate Amazon purchases, named Millennia merchants, NEO qualifying bills and everything else.
  2. Apply the rate or discount that really qualifies. Use Prime status, minimum orders, monthly caps, excluded transactions and the required payment route.
  3. Convert rewards into usable rupees. Amazon Pay balance is useful only to the extent you will redeem it; a capped discount cannot be valued beyond its cap.
  4. Subtract unavoidable fees and taxes. Include the NEO joining or annual fee if your channel is not explicitly lifetime-free, and include Millennia’s renewal fee if you may miss ₹1 lakh.
  5. Stress-test one low-spend year. A card that wins only when every monthly cap is reached may be poor value during a quieter year.
  6. Exclude interest from the reward calculation by paying in full. If full repayment is not realistic, a no-fee label should not drive the decision.

Costs beyond the annual fee

ICICI Bank’s information includes interest on cash withdrawals and on unpaid minimum-due balances, as well as late-payment charges. Axis separately lists finance charges, cash-withdrawal fees and overdue charges. Issuers can also apply taxes and other service fees. Review the current schedule of charges before submitting an application, especially if you might use cash advances, convert purchases to instalments or pay late.

A card’s advertised reward is not guaranteed profit. Paying ₹100 in interest to obtain ₹5 in rewards is a loss, and cash withdrawals generally begin accruing charges under different rules from ordinary purchases. Set up autopay for the full statement amount where possible and keep enough account balance for the debit.

Application and verification checklist

  • Confirm the issuer, card variant and current fee schedule on the live application page.
  • For NEO, verify that the specific channel states “lifetime free” before entering personal details; retain the written confirmation.
  • For Millennia, check the annual-spend definition used for the renewal waiver and identify excluded transactions.
  • For Amazon Pay ICICI, check whether an invitation is available and whether your Prime status is correctly reflected.
  • Check age, citizenship, income, address and documentation requirements. ICICI’s indicative thresholds are ₹20,000 monthly for salaried applicants and ₹30,000 for self-employed applicants, but approval remains discretionary.
  • Read reward-credit timing, redemption rules, minimum spends, caps and expiry provisions.
  • Compare the full schedule of charges, not just the joining and annual fee.
  • Apply only when the expected value comes from spending you already plan to do; never increase spending to manufacture rewards.

Common mistakes and how to avoid them

Assuming every “lifetime free” claim is universal

NEO’s fee table and selected-channel offers can differ. The controlling evidence for your application is the fee disclosure shown by Axis in that channel, not a banner seen elsewhere.

Using the highest advertised percentage for all purchases

Amazon’s 5% rate is for Prime purchases, while Millennia’s 5% rate is limited to listed merchants and detailed conditions. Base rates apply outside those categories.

Ignoring caps and minimum spends

NEO’s ₹120 Zomato saving requires a ₹499 order and is limited to twice monthly; Blinkit’s 10% saving requires ₹750 and caps at ₹250 once monthly; Paytm’s 5% saving requires ₹299 and caps at ₹150 monthly; BookMyShow’s 10% saving caps at ₹100 monthly.

Treating wallet credit as cash

Amazon Pay rewards are credited to Amazon Pay balance. Value them according to your expected redemption, not as an unrestricted bank-account credit.

Planning to carry a balance

Interest and late fees can overwhelm rewards. These cards should be evaluated with full, on-time repayment as the baseline.

Assuming approval or a particular credit limit

Eligibility information is indicative. The issuer decides approval and limit after its own assessment of the individual application.

Which card should you pick?

Choose the Amazon Pay ICICI Bank Credit Card first if you are invited, spend heavily on Amazon and can use Amazon Pay balance. Choose Axis NEO only after confirming a lifetime-free offer or deciding that its ₹250 fees are justified by the specific Zomato, Paytm, Blinkit and BookMyShow savings you will actually claim. Choose HDFC Millennia when its broader 5% merchant list fits your spending and you can either meet the ₹1 lakh renewal-waiver threshold or accept the ₹1,000-plus-tax renewal cost.

For all three, the disciplined choice is the same: calculate from your own transactions, read the current exclusions and caps, and pay every statement in full. Issuer terms accessed on 13 October 2026 may change, so recheck them immediately before applying.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Amazon Pay ICICI Bank Credit Card available to everyone?

No. ICICI Bank describes its application programme as invite-only. The bank also lists Indian citizenship, a minimum age of 21 and indicative monthly income thresholds, but final approval is subject to its own assessment.

Is Axis Bank NEO permanently free?

Not by default. Axis lists a ₹250 joining fee and ₹250 annual fee from the second year. Lifetime-free terms are available through selected channels, so verify the exact offer in your application confirmation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can HDFC Millennia be treated as a no-annual-fee card?

Only conditionally. HDFC lists a ₹1,000 renewal fee plus applicable taxes and waives it after at least ₹1 lakh of spending in the preceding year. It is therefore a spend-waiver card, not an unconditional fee-free card.

Do these cards have costs even when the annual fee is zero?

Yes. Issuers separately charge interest, late-payment penalties, cash-withdrawal fees and other applicable charges. Paying the full statement balance on time is essential to preserve reward value.
