Best Headset for Conference Calls of 2025: The Best Picks for Work, Home and Travel

The Jabra Evolve2 75 is the best default business headset for 2025 conference calls, but noisy offices, home workers, travelers and open-ear users have better-specialized choices.

Short answer: The Jabra Evolve2 75 is the best default purpose-built business headset for conference calls in the 2025 market. It has a retractable boom microphone, active noise cancellation, a busy light, USB and Bluetooth connectivity, and Teams and UC versions.

It is not a universal winner. Choose the EPOS IMPACT 1000 for a genuinely noisy open office, the Sony WH-1000XM5 for a quiet home office where music and travel matter too, the Shokz OpenMeet UC if you need to hear your surroundings, and a wired USB business headset if avoiding batteries and pairing problems is more important than wireless convenience.

2025 snapshot: This guide covers products and recommendations relevant during 2025. It is being published after that buying period, so prices, stock, firmware, support policies and regional availability may have changed. Check the exact model and variant before buying.

Quick recommendations

Conference-call headsets are not all competing in the same category. A business headset prioritizes microphone consistency, mute controls and software integration. A consumer headphone usually prioritizes music, travel and comfort. An open-ear headset prioritizes awareness of the room rather than isolation.

Headset Best for Microphone and noise handling Connection Battery claim Main drawback
Jabra Evolve2 75 Best overall business headset Retractable boom plus eight-microphone system; ANC and busy light Bluetooth and USB receiver/USB connection; Teams and UC versions Up to 36 hours, depending on configuration and use Expensive, with conflicting comfort and microphone-test results
EPOS IMPACT 1000 Noisy open-plan office Adaptive hybrid ANC, four digital MEMS microphones, Open Office compliance Triple connectivity; applicable variants certified for Teams, Zoom and Meet About 19–20 hours of talk time, depending on ANC Premium business design; much of its strongest noise evidence is manufacturer-provided
Sony WH-1000XM5 Home office, music and travel Eight-microphone boomless system, strong ANC and good tested call quality Bluetooth multipoint Up to 30 hours with ANC enabled No boom, busy light or business-call control ecosystem
Shokz OpenMeet UC Hearing colleagues, children, alarms or traffic Open-ear speakers and boom microphone; strong independent noisy-environment microphone results Bluetooth 5.4 and multipoint Up to 15 hours Almost no noise isolation and reduced stability when looking down
Wired USB business headset Value and reliability Close-positioned boom microphones are usually predictable for calls USB; no Bluetooth pairing No battery Cable, less freedom of movement and fewer lifestyle features
Jabra Evolve2 65 Lower-cost dedicated Jabra alternative Strong boom microphone in RTINGS testing; weaker isolation than ANC models Wireless; Teams and UC configurations Long battery life, with exact runtime depending on use On-ear fit and possible high PC latency; verify current stock and price

Best overall business headset: Jabra Evolve2 75

The Jabra Evolve2 75 is the best default recommendation when the headset’s primary job is getting you through several work calls a day. Its retractable boom places the microphone close to your mouth, while the headset also provides ANC, busy lights, call controls, Bluetooth and USB connectivity. Jabra lists eight microphones, 40 mm speakers, a 197-gram stereo weight and up to 36 hours of battery life in its technical documentation.

#1 Best Overall
Wireless Headset with Mic for Work, Bluetooth Headset with Noise Cancelling
  • Great Noise Cancelling & Mute Function: Experience crystal-clear calls with environmental noise cancelling (ENC) technology in our wireless headset. Our noise cancelling headphones for work blocks most background distractions (loud pets/children), making it the ideal headset for noisy environments. One-touch mute button instantly silences your mic during Zoom/Teams meetings.【NOTE】 Mute function activates only during calls
  • Bluetooth 5.3 & Dedicated USB Dongle: Our Bluetooth headset features low-latency transmission for music/video calls, and includes a USB-A adapter for Windows PC (non-Bluetooth compatible), making it a versatile computer headset. It works seamlessly with popular platforms like Webex, Zoom, MS Teams, etc.【NOTE】Dongle incompatible with desk phones or landlines. Remove it when the headset is not in use
  • Dual Pairing & Extended Mobility: Boost productivity by connecting this work headset to your laptop and smartphone simultaneously. This wireless headset with mic for work lets you seamlessly switch between conference calls and mobile chats, while its 33ft Bluetooth range enables free movement during meetings or calls—ideal for dynamic office setups.
  • 40-Hour Battery & Rapid Charge: The 600mAh rechargeable battery delivers 40hrs talk time, with a full charge in just 2 hours using the included charging stand. Perfect for remote work, hybrid office, and business travel, this office headset keeps up with your busy schedule.【NOTE】Can be used while charging, but power off is recommended for optimal safety and battery longevity.
  • All-DayComfort: Our Bluetooth headset for work features an adjustable headband and memory foam earcups, engineered for long-wearing comfort with breathable protein leather ear cushions. The flexible boom mic ensures voice clarity, making it a reliable wireless headset with mic for all-day use. A dedicated MFB button supports voice assistant access (Siri/Google) for added convenience.【NOTE】MFB button controls smartphone functions only (not computer apps)

Microsoft lists the Evolve2 75 among devices meeting its premium microphone requirements for open-office use. That makes it a credible professional choice, but not proof that it is the best microphone in every room or for every voice.

Why it is the default pick

  • Better voice consistency than most boomless headphones: the retractable boom stays near the mouth and is less dependent on the headset’s ability to find your voice from the sides of your head.
  • Useful office signaling: the integrated busy lights can tell nearby coworkers that you are on a call.
  • Flexible computer and phone use: use the USB receiver or USB audio connection with a computer and Bluetooth with a phone or tablet.
  • Teams and UC options: choose the Teams version when Teams-specific certification and controls are required; choose the UC version for mixed use across Zoom, Meet, Webex, Slack huddles and other platforms.
  • Good claimed endurance: Jabra rates it for up to 36 hours, while independent testing reported roughly 33–36 hours depending on the ANC configuration. Neither number should be treated as a guarantee for every call pattern.

The qualifications matter

The Evolve2 75 is expensive, and comfort is disputed. TechRadar describes it as comfortable for extended use, while SoundGuys found the on-ear design and materials uncomfortable beyond roughly an hour and judged its microphone performance merely adequate in its testing. Fit, head shape, glasses and tolerance for clamp pressure can explain some of that disagreement.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

So the accurate verdict is best feature-complete business option, not uncontested best microphone or all-day-comfort champion. It also lacks a 3.5 mm input. Linux users can use it as an audio device, but SoundGuys notes that Jabra’s companion application is not officially supported there.

Best for a noisy open office: EPOS IMPACT 1000

If nearby conversations, keyboard noise and office activity are the central problem, the EPOS IMPACT 1000 is the more targeted recommendation.

Its relevant features include adaptive hybrid ANC, four digital MEMS microphones, a 360-degree busy light, TalkThrough, triple connectivity and Microsoft Open Office compliance. EPOS’s 2025-era fact sheet lists about 19 hours of talk time with ANC enabled and 20 hours with ANC disabled. Applicable variants are listed for Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Google Meet.

Why an open-office headset is different

The IMPACT 1000 is designed around the fact that an open office creates two separate problems:

  1. You need to hear less of the room. Ear-side ANC and passive isolation help the wearer concentrate.
  2. The other participants need to hear less of the room. The microphone system and its noise processing must reduce what gets transmitted into the call.

Those systems are not interchangeable. ANC can make a fan or conversation quieter for you without stopping your microphone from transmitting it to the meeting. EPOS’s strongest noise-suppression claims are manufacturer claims, so they should not be treated as directly comparable to a reviewer’s recording made in a different room with different noise sources.

Buy the IMPACT 1000 when open-office performance, a visible busy light and professional call handling matter more than music quality, compactness or a discreet appearance. For a mixed home-and-office user, the Jabra is likely the more balanced default.

Best for a home office, music and travel: Sony WH-1000XM5

The Sony WH-1000XM5 is the better choice for someone who wants one pair of headphones for work calls, music, commuting and travel. Tom’s Guide praised its call quality and eight-microphone system, along with its ANC, multipoint connectivity and 30-hour battery claim with ANC enabled.

Its boomless design is a benefit outside work: there is no microphone arm to store, adjust or accidentally damage. Multipoint makes it practical to remain connected to a computer and phone. The strong ear-side ANC is useful on a train, plane or in a busy café.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

It is not a business-headset replacement in every situation. There is no retractable boom, visible busy light or equivalent business-call control and certification ecosystem. A boom placed close to the mouth is generally the safer choice when you regularly call from a shared home, open office or location with nearby speech. Sony’s microphones may perform well, but microphone performance can be less dependable than a close boom in severe noise.

Best open-ear headset: Shokz OpenMeet UC

Choose the Shokz OpenMeet UC when hearing your surroundings is more important than blocking them. Its open-ear design leaves the ear canals unsealed, and it includes a boom microphone. Shokz lists a 78-gram weight, Bluetooth 5.4, multipoint connectivity, up to 15 hours of use and up to two hours of talk time after a five-minute charge.

That combination suits people who need to hear coworkers, children, pets, alarms or traffic. It can also be more comfortable for glasses wearers or people who dislike the heat and pressure of sealed ear cups. SoundGuys found its microphone excellent in noisy conditions and its comfort very strong.

Lenovo Wireless VoIP Headset Teams Certified, Noise-Canceling Mic, Bluetooth 5.3 Multipoint, USB-A Receiver, 31-Hour Talk & 60-Hour Playback, Lightweight Over-Ear Design, Replaceable Earcups
  • Microsoft Teams Certified & UC Optimized: Ensure crystal-clear communication with Microsoft Teams Open Office certification and UC platform compatibility, perfect for hybrid workspaces and virtual meetings. Use of USB-A receiver required for all Microsoft Teams functionality.
  • Bluetooth 5.3 & Multipoint Technology: Seamlessly switch between two devices with dual Bluetooth connections or use the USB-A receiver for plug-and-play convenience
  • Advanced Noise Cancellation: Three-mic noise suppression technology blocks distractions, delivering unmatched audio clarity for professional calls or casual gaming
  • Ergonomic & Lightweight Design: At only 140g, the headset features adjustable memory foam earcups and a flexible headband for extended comfort during long workdays or gaming sessions
  • Unmatched Battery Life: Stay powered with up to 31 hours of talk time or 60 hours of music playback on a single charge, ensuring productivity and entertainment without interruptions

The trade-off is fundamental rather than a minor flaw: independent testing found almost no noise isolation. SoundGuys also reported that the headset can become unstable when the wearer looks down. That means it is a poor choice for concentrating in a loud café or office, even though it is a good choice for remaining aware of that environment. Do not buy it expecting conventional ANC or immersive music playback.

Best value approach: a wired USB business headset

For a budget-conscious buyer, a current wired USB headset is often a better value than an old wireless consumer headphone. A cable eliminates battery anxiety, Bluetooth pairing problems and much of the computer-profile confusion that can affect wireless microphone use.

Models worth price-checking include the Logitech Zone Wired, the Poly Blackwire range and the Jabra Evolve2 30. Because exact SKUs, regional availability and prices change, confirm that the model is currently supported, has the connector your computer accepts and includes the controls you need before buying. The wired category is the recommendation; an old product should not become a 2025 pick merely because it received a good review years ago.

A wired headset is particularly sensible when:

  • you take calls at one fixed desk;
  • your employer restricts Bluetooth accessories;
  • you cannot reliably keep a headset charged;
  • you use a desktop computer with inconsistent Bluetooth;
  • you need predictable microphone behavior more than wireless range; or
  • you are buying several units and want to minimize replacement-battery and pairing support issues.

The cost calculation should include the cable, USB connector, replacement ear cushions if available, warranty, and whether the headset can be used with your phone. A cheaper headset that creates recurring support problems may not be the cheaper purchase for a small business.

Best business alternative: Logitech Zone Wireless 2

The Logitech Zone Wireless 2 is a strong middle-ground option for a business or home-office user who wants wireless convenience and a professional feature set. Logitech lists five MEMS microphones, four noise-canceling microphones, a USB receiver, Bluetooth 5.2, and a 230-gram weight.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Its rated battery figures show why battery claims must be labeled carefully: Logitech lists up to 15 hours of talk time with ANC on and 18 hours with ANC off, but up to 22 hours of listening with ANC on and 40 hours with ANC off. Those are different activities under different conditions. A charging stand is sold separately.

Logitech states that Zone Wireless 2 is certified for Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Google Meet and Google Voice when used with the receiver. Native-Bluetooth Teams support is specifically tied to Windows 11 and the new Teams application, so do not assume that every control works identically when the receiver is left in the box. The technical specifications also list hearing-protection standards including EN 50332 and G616-related compliance. Those are safety features, not evidence that it sounds better than another headset.

Which type of headset should you buy?

Type Best at Where it falls short
Business headset Voice calls, boom microphones, mute controls, busy lights, softphone integration and enterprise certification Often costs more and may be less appealing for music or public use
Consumer ANC headphones Music, travel, comfort, multipoint and reducing noise for the wearer Usually boomless, with fewer business controls and less predictable transmission of nearby speech
Gaming headset Close boom microphones, USB receivers and sometimes low-latency audio Can be bulky, visually informal and less suitable for office fleet management
Open-ear headset Awareness of colleagues, traffic, alarms and household sounds Provides little or no isolation, which can make concentration harder in a noisy location
Earbuds Portability and discretion Fit, battery life, microphone behavior and controls vary widely; small microphones are farther from the mouth

The best headphones for listening are not automatically the best headset for transmitting speech. For calls, rank voice intelligibility and background-noise handling before speaker size, ANC strength or Bluetooth version.

Boom microphone versus boomless microphone

A boom microphone is not automatically perfect, but its physical position gives it a major advantage: it stays close to the mouth. That generally improves voice consistency, plosive control and resistance to fan, keyboard and household noise. A boom also makes physical mute positions and visible call indicators easier to implement.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The disadvantages are appearance, extra moving parts and possible interference with glasses, masks or facial movement. A poorly positioned boom can be uncomfortable, and a boom mechanism may eventually wear out.

Boomless headphones are discreet and easier to use while commuting. Their microphones are farther from the mouth, so performance can change more when you turn your head, and nearby speech or keyboard noise may be harder to reject. They also usually lack a physical mute position. For a quiet home office, that trade-off may be worthwhile; for a shared room or open-plan office, a boom is usually the safer purchase.

How to choose for your workspace

Quiet home office

Prioritize comfort, natural voice quality, music performance, multipoint connectivity and reasonable battery life. The Sony WH-1000XM5 is the best lifestyle fit; the Jabra Evolve2 75 is better if call controls and a boom matter more than music.

Shared home with children, pets or keyboard noise

Prioritize a close boom microphone, microphone noise handling, sidetone, physical mute and a USB receiver or USB connection. The Jabra Evolve2 75 and EPOS IMPACT 1000 are better starting points. Choose the Shokz only if hearing the home is more important than isolating yourself from it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Open-plan office

Look for Microsoft Open Office or comparable certification, microphone noise rejection, ear-side ANC or passive isolation, a busy light, sidetone or TalkThrough and stable wireless range. The EPOS IMPACT 1000 is the specialist pick, with the Jabra Evolve2 75 and Logitech Zone Wireless 2 as alternatives.

Travel

The Sony WH-1000XM5 is the easiest general travel recommendation when listening, ANC and calls all matter. If you need business controls and a boom, consider a model such as the Jabra Evolve2 65 Flex, but verify its exact SKU, folding design, case, USB behavior, airline use and current availability before purchase. Outdoor microphone performance should be tested rather than inferred from indoor call claims.

Heavy call-center use

A Bluetooth stereo headset is not automatically suitable for a high-volume contact center. Consider a mono, DECT or enterprise call-center model if you need a replaceable or dockable battery, desk-phone compatibility, long wireless range, acoustic-shock protection, replaceable cushions, a busy light and centralized fleet management.

Compatibility: Teams, Zoom, Meet, Webex and phones

Basic compatibility means that a headset can send and receive audio. Certification can cover much more: call controls, mute synchronization, firmware behavior, receiver operation and platform testing. A headset can work with Zoom or Meet as ordinary Bluetooth audio while lacking a platform-specific answer button or reliable mute-state synchronization.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Microsoft Teams: choose a Teams-certified variant when your employer requires Teams controls or certified support. Jabra offers Teams and UC versions of the Evolve2 75. Logitech’s Zone Wireless 2 certification is tied to use with its receiver, while native-Bluetooth Teams support has Windows 11 and new-Teams limitations.
  • Zoom: basic audio should work through the selected operating-system device, but test the headset’s speaker, microphone and mute controls inside Zoom.
  • Google Meet: verify microphone permissions at the Meet, browser and operating-system levels.
  • Webex and Slack huddles: basic microphone and speaker audio generally works, but platform-specific controls may depend on the receiver, application, operating system and firmware.
  • Windows and macOS: confirm receiver and firmware-utility support separately. Basic audio compatibility does not guarantee that every control or firmware tool works on both systems.
  • iOS and Android: direct Bluetooth is usually more convenient than a computer-focused USB receiver, but check whether the headset supports multipoint in the connection combination you plan to use.

For a mixed-platform household or workplace, a UC model with a USB receiver is usually the safer choice. For a Teams-only employer with strict device requirements, choose the Teams model rather than assuming the UC model has identical controls.

USB receiver or direct Bluetooth?

USB receiver Direct Bluetooth
More predictable computer connection No receiver to lose
Often better call-control integration Convenient with phones and tablets
Less dependent on the laptop’s Bluetooth implementation Useful with modern laptops that have reliable Bluetooth
May provide lower latency and easier enterprise deployment Convenient for multipoint connections

On many Windows systems, classic Bluetooth switches between a high-quality stereo profile and a hands-free profile when the microphone is active. That can make music or meeting audio sound narrower or lower quality. This is a system-level Bluetooth limitation, not automatically a defect in the headset. The Bluetooth Hands-Free Profile documentation explains the underlying profile behavior. Using the included USB receiver or a USB audio connection can avoid or reduce the problem, depending on the headset and operating system.

Bluetooth 5.2, 5.4 or another version by itself does not prove that a headset has a better call microphone, longer battery life or better Windows compatibility. The complete headset, receiver, operating system and application determine the result.

Battery claims: compare like with like

Manufacturers often publish several battery numbers. Separate talk time from listening time, ANC-on from ANC-off use, receiver use from direct Bluetooth, quick-charge claims and whether the headset can operate while charging.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Model Published figure How to interpret it
Jabra Evolve2 75 Up to 36 hours Manufacturer rating; configuration and use affect runtime. Independent testing reported about 33–36 hours.
Logitech Zone Wireless 2 15 hours talk with ANC on; 18 hours with ANC off; 22 hours listening with ANC on; 40 hours with ANC off Talk and listening figures are not interchangeable.
EPOS IMPACT 1000 About 19 hours talk with ANC on and 20 hours with ANC off 2025-era manufacturer data-sheet figures.
Shokz OpenMeet Up to 15 hours; up to two hours of talk after five minutes charging Shokz claim; real runtime depends on volume, connection and call use.
Wired USB headset No battery It may be the most economical choice for a fixed desk, but confirm whether it remains usable if the cable or USB port is damaged.

If a wireless headset is essential, prioritize a model that supports fast charging, can work while charging, includes a charging stand or can fall back to USB audio. Do not assume every wireless headset supports audio while charging.

Comfort and fit for two- to four-hour sessions

Comfort is not a specification that can be settled by weight alone. Check:

  • on-ear versus over-ear pressure;
  • clamp force and headband pressure;
  • heat buildup in the ear cups;
  • fit with the glasses you actually wear;
  • whether the headset remains stable when you lean forward;
  • ear-cup material and cushion depth;
  • hair interference around the headband or seal;
  • whether the boom can be positioned on the preferred side;
  • availability of replacement ear pads; and
  • whether controls are reachable without shifting the headset.

Glasses can disrupt the seal of over-ear ANC headphones. RTINGS discusses this fit issue in its office-headset guidance. Open-ear designs such as the Shokz may reduce pressure around the temples, while on-ear designs may press directly against a glasses frame. Test the headset with your real glasses and for the length of a normal work block if the retailer allows returns.

Mute behavior and sidetone

There are several different mute states:

  • the microphone is muted at the headset;
  • the meeting application is muted;
  • the boom is flipped upward to mute;
  • a physical mute button is pressed; or
  • the headset and app synchronize their mute state.

These states can disagree. You may be muted in Zoom but appear unmuted on the headset, or flip the boom without the application displaying the change. Test the headset mute button, boom-up mute, app mute, visible indicator and synchronization before relying on it in a meeting.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Sidetone feeds a controlled amount of your own voice back to you. It can make speaking feel more natural, help you notice that you are talking too loudly and reduce the temptation to raise the volume. TalkThrough serves a related awareness purpose on some business models, but it is not the same as microphone mute.

In Microsoft Teams, open Settings and more → Settings → Devices and look for Sync device buttons when the headset supports it. Teams also provides Make a test call in device settings. Microsoft notes that an organization’s policies or IT administration can restrict some audio settings.

How to set up the headset correctly

Zoom

  1. Connect and power on the headset.
  2. Open the Zoom desktop application.
  3. Select Profile picture → Settings → Audio.
  4. Under Speaker, select the headset and choose Test Speaker.
  5. Under Microphone, select the same headset and choose Test Microphone.
  6. Record a short sample and listen to the playback.
  7. Turn Automatically adjust microphone volume on or off if necessary.
  8. During a meeting, use the arrow next to Mute/Unmute to choose a different speaker or microphone.

Zoom’s official audio instructions recommend confirming the same headset is selected for both input and output.

Google Meet

  • Confirm microphone permission for Meet, the browser and the operating system.
  • On the Meet pre-join screen or in meeting settings, select the headset as both microphone and speaker.
  • If the headset does not appear, check Bluetooth permissions, charge level and whether another application is using the device.

Google’s audio troubleshooting guidance specifically identifies permissions at the Meet, browser and device levels as possible causes of failure.

When the headset fails during a call

  1. Check that the headset is charged and powered on.
  2. Confirm that the meeting application is using the headset for both microphone and speaker.
  3. Disconnect other Bluetooth audio devices that may have taken the connection.
  4. Quit and reopen Zoom, Teams or the browser.
  5. Reconnect the USB receiver or try the included USB cable.
  6. Test the headset outside the meeting application in the computer’s system audio settings.
  7. Update firmware through the manufacturer’s application, if your operating system is supported.
  8. If the microphone works but audio quality collapses, use the USB receiver instead of direct Bluetooth.
  9. If mute controls do not synchronize, verify the Teams or UC variant, receiver, application and firmware.
  10. If the problem occurs only in a browser, test the desktop application. Microsoft notes that some Teams web functionality is limited.

If a USB receiver is unreliable, move it away from the back of a desktop computer or a crowded USB 3 area with a short USB extension cable. Metal desks and crowded wireless environments can also affect reception. Treat this as a practical troubleshooting test, not a guaranteed fix.

Hearing safety

Use moderate listening levels and do not turn up the volume simply because ANC makes the room quieter. Where available, acoustic-shock protection and workplace noise limiters are useful safety features. Logitech lists EN 50332 and G616-related protection for Zone Wireless 2, while EPOS lists ActiveGard and a noise-at-work limiter for IMPACT 1000. These protections do not mean that any headset is safe at unlimited volume.

Sidetone can also help: hearing your own voice may prevent you from unconsciously shouting or increasing the playback level. It is a comfort and awareness feature, not a substitute for sensible volume limits.

How this 2025 ranking should be interpreted

This comparison separates four types of evidence:

  • Manufacturer specifications: microphone count, weight, connection standards, rated battery life and advertised features.
  • Platform certification: tested compatibility or integration with Teams, Zoom, Meet or another application.
  • Independent testing: reviewer or laboratory observations of microphone behavior, comfort, isolation and latency.
  • Editorial judgment: the recommendation based on the user’s priorities, not a claim that one product wins every test.

Microphone comparisons are especially difficult to normalize. Reviewers use different rooms, noise sources, recording paths, call platforms and listening judgments. That is why the Jabra can be praised for call quality by one publication while SoundGuys finds its microphone only adequate. Manufacturer percentages, such as Shokz’s claimed background-noise reduction, should not be placed in a common ranking against EPOS or another company’s proprietary AI-noise claim.

Leading lists also mix categories. TechRadar’s 2025 coverage, for example, names a Sony WH-1000XM4 as an overall conference-call pick while separately presenting the Jabra Evolve2 75 as a premium and VoIP choice. That is not necessarily contradictory: the Sony is a consumer headphone, while the Jabra is a business headset. The right choice depends on whether the reader means best headphones for general calls or best purpose-built headset for professional calling.

Finally, do not buy a legacy model solely because an old review page still labels it a 2025 pick. Older Plantronics BackBeat Go 810 and BackBeat Pro 2 listings illustrate why current support, stock, warranty and replacement parts matter as much as historic sound quality.

A simple buying decision

  1. Mostly calls in a noisy open office? Start with the EPOS IMPACT 1000; compare the Jabra Evolve2 75 if you want a more balanced home-and-office headset.
  2. Mostly calls at home, plus music and travel? Choose the Sony WH-1000XM5 unless a boom and business controls are essential.
  3. Need to hear the room? Choose the Shokz OpenMeet UC, accepting its lack of isolation.
  4. Want no battery or pairing problems? Price-check a current wired USB business headset.
  5. Need Teams-specific controls? Buy the Teams-certified SKU and use the supported receiver where required.
  6. Use several platforms? Choose a UC SKU with a USB receiver and verify basic audio on each application.
  7. Need gaming and work calls? Consider a gaming headset with a detachable boom and USB receiver, but weigh its bulk, appearance and software support against a business model.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a boom microphone better for conference calls?

Usually, especially in a shared home or open office. A boom stays close to the mouth, which generally improves voice consistency and helps separate speech from keyboard, fan and household noise. A boomless consumer headset can be the better choice in a quiet room or when discretion and travel matter more.

Does ANC stop other people from hearing my office noise?

Not necessarily. Ear-side active noise cancellation reduces noise for you. Microphone noise rejection reduces noise transmitted to other meeting participants. These are separate systems, so check both before buying for an open office.

Do I need a Teams version of a headset?

Choose the Teams version when your employer requires Teams certification or Teams-specific controls. Choose a UC version for mixed use across Zoom, Meet, Webex, Slack and other platforms. Basic audio may work without certification, but mute synchronization and call buttons may not.

Is Bluetooth or a USB receiver better for work calls?

A USB receiver is usually more predictable with a computer and often provides better call-control integration. Direct Bluetooth is more convenient for phones and tablets. On some Windows systems, Bluetooth changes to a lower-quality hands-free profile when the microphone is active; the receiver or USB audio connection can avoid or reduce that issue.

What is the best headset if I wear glasses?

Test the fit with your actual glasses. Over-ear cushions can lose their seal around glasses arms, while on-ear models may press against the frame. An open-ear model such as the Shokz OpenMeet UC may reduce temple pressure, but it provides almost no isolation.

The Bottom Line

Final verdict: Buy the Jabra Evolve2 75 when you want the most complete professional conference-call package. Choose the EPOS IMPACT 1000 for a truly noisy open office, the Sony WH-1000XM5 for calls plus music and travel, the Shokz OpenMeet UC for environmental awareness, and a current wired USB business headset for the lowest-complexity value choice. Confirm the exact Teams or UC variant, receiver requirements, operating-system support and current availability before paying.
