1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFor most cloud-first small businesses, Zoho Books is the strongest starting point. It combines GST invoicing, online return filing, bank and accounting workflows, e-invoices, e-way bills and multi-user access. Choose TallyPrime instead when your accountant already works in a desktop-led Tally environment or you need its established transaction controls. Choose myBillBook when fast, low-cost billing and inventory matter more than full double-entry accounting.
The right choice depends on four practical questions: do you need cloud access or offline desktop work, how deep your accounting must be, whether inventory or POS is central, and whether your turnover and transactions require GST e-invoicing. The comparison below uses current vendor descriptions and stated prices; plan limits, prices and GST rules can change, so confirm them before subscribing.

What GST invoicing and accounting software should handle
A GST application is more than a tax-rate calculator. At minimum, it should preserve the data needed to issue a compliant invoice and keep your books consistent when an invoice is edited, paid, returned or reconciled.
#1 Best Overall
- Two-Part Carbonless Invoice Book: Each invoice book has 50 sets of invoices, each with a white/light yellow section, with the yellow section retained in the invoice book to maintain detailed records.
- Consecutively Numbered: Enlarged red 6-digit numbers in the upper right corner of each invoice receipt book help you quickly navigate through your orders.
- Wraparound Divider Flap: A thick folded cardboard divider is integrated into the back of each invoice book for use between each two-part sales order to prevent the written content from rubbing off on subsequent copies of the invoice, resulting in wasted invoices.
- 2 Packs/50 Sets (100 Sets Total): Each invoice book provides 50 sequentially numbered carbonless sets of 2 invoice books for long-term use.
- Customizable Space: Each invoice book for small business has space at the top to add a company seal or sticker.
Invoice identity and tax fields
- Your business legal name, address and GSTIN, where registered.
- Customer name, address and GSTIN for registered buyers.
- Invoice number and date, supply state, place of supply and whether the transaction is intra-state or inter-state.
- Item or service descriptions, HSN or SAC codes, quantities, unit prices, discounts and taxable value.
- CGST and SGST for applicable intra-state supplies, or IGST for applicable inter-state supplies.
- Credit notes, debit notes, returns and payment terms linked to the original transaction.
Books, controls and collaboration
Full accounting software posts sales and purchases into ledgers, records receipts and payments, tracks receivables and payables, and produces a balance sheet, profit-and-loss statement and tax-related reports. Billing-first tools can be quicker for a counter sale but may require an accountant or separate system for deeper books. Look for role-based users, an audit or edit log, accountant access, backups and export formats before handing over live data.
GST reports and electronic documents
Useful software should map products and services to HSN or SAC, preserve GSTINs, calculate tax components, identify exceptions and provide reports that your business or tax professional can review before filing. If your transactions fall under e-invoicing, the application must be able to send eligible B2B invoice data to the Invoice Registration Portal (IRP), receive an Invoice Reference Number and QR code, and retain the response. E-way-bill creation is a related but separate transport document; confirm that the workflow captures transporter and vehicle information when required.
Zoho Books: best cloud-first all-rounder
What it does
Zoho states that users can file GST returns online by entering their GSTIN, username and the starting date for their accounts. The product associates contacts with GSTINs, auto-populates tax components, classifies goods and services with HSN or SAC codes, creates GST-compliant invoices, generates e-way bills and sends B2B e-invoices authenticated electronically by GSTN.

- QUALITY INVOICES: Adams Order books provide a professional invoice or customer receipt; a great way to create and maintain a professional image for small businesses and service providers
- 50 TWO-PART CARBONLESS FORMS: Customers get the perforated white top copy; retain the canary and pink copies for your records
- WRAP-AROUND COVER: Fold the back cover between sets to keep invoices neat and legible
- ROOM FOR CUSTOMIZATION: A blank space at top leaves room for your company stamp; a big savings over custom-printed forms
- CONSECUTIVELY NUMBERED: Large 6-digit numbers in the upper right hand corner help you thumb through orders quickly
Who should choose it
- A business that wants browser and mobile access rather than a single office computer.
- An owner who wants invoicing, bank or payment workflows and accounting in one cloud record.
- A team that needs accountant collaboration and a documented audit trail.
- A growing business that expects more GST automation than a simple receipt app provides.
Where to be careful
Do not assume that a plan includes every user, integration or advanced inventory function. Confirm the number of organisations, users, invoices, automation actions and inventory locations in the exact plan you intend to buy. Reconcile imported opening balances and GST ledgers before relying on an online return.
TallyPrime: best for established accountant-led or desktop workflows
What it does
Tally’s GST material describes TallyPrime as an invoicing and accounting product for Indian businesses. It supports GST invoice creation, e-invoice and e-way-bill generation, input-tax-credit tracking, reconciliation and edit-log controls. Its small-business material also describes export bills, MSME UDYAM numbers on invoices and transaction-change tracking.

This profile is useful when a proprietor already has a Tally-trained accountant, a chart of accounts built around Tally, or a preference for controlled desktop operations. Edit logs and reconciliation can make it easier to investigate why a tax figure changed, provided the organisation actually reviews those controls.
Who should choose it
- A company whose accountant or auditor already maintains Tally data.
- A business that prioritises mature double-entry accounting over the quickest mobile billing screen.
- An exporter or MSME that needs the invoice information described above.
- An office that needs a desktop-led process and can manage backups, licences and remote access separately.
Price and implementation caution
A current TallyPrime price was not reliably stated in the official material used here, so do not use an old quotation to budget. Ask for the current edition, number of companies, users, renewals, optional hosting and support terms. Before migration, map ledgers, stock items, GST rates, opening balances and prior return periods; an accountant should sign off the opening trial balance.
myBillBook: best when billing and inventory come first
What it does
myBillBook says it creates GST-compliant invoices containing the party GSTIN, HSN/SAC and tax components. It generates e-way bills and GSTN-authenticated B2B e-invoices, produces GSTR-1, GSTR-2 and GSTR-3B reports, tracks receivables, payables and ledgers, and updates inventory after each sales or purchase invoice.

- QUALITY INVOICES: Adams Invoice books provide a professional invoice or customer receipt; easily customize by using the extra space at the top and your company stamp
- 50-TWO PART CARBONLESS FORMS: Customers get the perforated white top copy; retain the yellow copy for your records
- WRAP-AROUND COVER: Fold the back cover between sets to keep invoices neat and legible
- CONSECUTIVELY NUMBERED: Large 6-digit numbers help you thumb through invoices quickly
- STOCK UP: Each book includes 50 white/canary sets; order several to keep your favorite forms on hand
Those functions target retailers, wholesalers and service operators that need to issue many invoices quickly and see stock or outstanding balances without adopting a heavier accounting system on day one.
Published starting price
The service advertises plans starting at ₹199 per month. That is a starting figure, not a promise that every feature is included. Confirm the plan’s invoice volume, number of businesses and users, inventory locations, report access, e-invoice/e-way-bill support and renewal price.
Who should choose it
- A small shop or field team where speed of billing and stock updates is the main requirement.
- A wholesaler that needs GST invoices plus receivable and payable visibility.
- A new business that wants a lower entry price before adopting a more extensive accounting workflow.
Where it may not be enough
If you need complex journal entries, extensive accountant collaboration, detailed audit controls, multiple entities or advanced financial reporting, test those workflows with sample data. A billing-first product can be excellent for sales operations while still requiring a separate accountant-led process for year-end work.

GST e-invoicing and e-way-bill rules that affect your choice
E-invoice turnover threshold
A GSTN/IRP advisory on Notification 10/2023 lowered the B2B e-invoicing threshold to aggregate annual turnover of ₹5 crore and above, effective 1 August 2023. “Aggregate annual turnover” is assessed under GST rules across the relevant registrations and periods, not simply by looking at one month’s sales in one branch. Confirm whether your business falls within the notified class and whether any exemption applies.
Thirty-day reporting rule for larger taxpayers
IRIS IRP guidance says that, effective 1 April 2025, taxpayers with aggregate annual turnover of ₹10 crore and above must report e-invoices within 30 days from the invoice date. A system that lets you create an invoice is not enough: configure a process that submits eligible documents promptly, records the IRN response and prevents staff from treating an unregistered invoice as a completed e-invoice.

What software cannot decide for you
- Whether your legal entity, registration or transaction is covered by e-invoicing.
- Whether a supply is exempt, zero-rated, reverse-charge, export or subject to a special rate.
- Whether a GSTIN, place of supply, HSN/SAC or customer classification is correct.
- Whether an amendment, credit note or late filing is legally appropriate.
- Who is responsible for reviewing and filing the return.
Use the software to prepare and transmit data, but have the owner, authorised tax staff or a qualified tax professional validate eligibility, exemptions, rates, registration details and filing responsibility.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose in a practical sequence
- Describe your sales process. Count invoices per month, sales channels, branches, service lines, returns, credit notes and purchase documents. Note whether sales occur from a counter, phone, website or field visit.
- Decide cloud versus desktop. Choose cloud access if several locations or an external accountant must work on the same live books. Choose a desktop-led process if your accountant depends on local files and you have a reliable backup and access plan.
- Set the accounting depth. List the reports your accountant needs: ledgers, trial balance, profit and loss, balance sheet, receivables, payables, stock valuation and input-tax-credit reconciliation. A tool that only prints invoices may not meet this list.
- Specify inventory and purchasing. Identify units, batches, serial numbers, warehouses, reorder levels, purchase orders, goods received and stock adjustments. Demonstrate one complete purchase-to-sale cycle, not just a sample invoice.
- Check GST scenarios. Test intra-state and inter-state sales, registered and unregistered customers, discounts, returns, credit notes, exports if relevant, reverse charge if relevant, and a change to an HSN/SAC or tax rate.
- Test electronic documents. Use a non-production or controlled transaction to confirm e-invoice authentication, IRN and QR-code storage, e-way-bill data capture, cancellation and amendment handling.
- Price the complete operation. Add subscription, annual billing commitment, taxes, extra users, extra entities, integrations, payment gateways, migration, training, support and accountant time. Compare the 12-month total rather than the headline monthly price.
- Run a pilot and obtain sign-off. Import a copy of representative customers, products and opening balances. Have the person responsible for GST returns compare generated reports with the existing books before switching live invoices.
Implementation checklist after purchase
- Enter legal name, addresses, GSTINs, registration type and financial-year settings.
- Build a controlled master list of customers, suppliers, items, HSN/SAC codes, units and tax rates.
- Set invoice numbering so duplicates and gaps can be investigated.
- Assign roles: billing staff should not automatically have permission to alter ledgers or tax settings.
- Configure bank, payment and accountant access, then test a reconciliation from statement to ledger.
- Import opening receivables, payables, inventory and balances with a dated reconciliation file.
- Create test invoices for every common place-of-supply and tax scenario.
- Document who reviews e-invoice eligibility, who submits returns and who handles rejected or cancelled documents.
- Schedule backups or exports and retain source invoices, IRP responses and supporting records according to your record-keeping policy.
Common failure modes and fixes
Tax amount is wrong on an invoice
Check the customer’s GSTIN and state, place of supply, item tax category, HSN/SAC and whether a discount was applied before or after tax. Correct the master data first; then issue the appropriate amendment or credit note rather than silently overwriting a filed transaction.
E-invoice or e-way bill is rejected
Read the portal response and compare the legal name, GSTIN status, document number, date, taxable value, tax components, transporter details and vehicle information with the source invoice. Fix the field that caused the rejection, preserve the original response and follow your accountant’s procedure for cancellation or reissue.
GST report does not match the books
Look for duplicate imports, invoices posted to the wrong period, credit notes without links, unrecorded purchase bills, altered GSTINs and transactions excluded by a report filter. Reconcile invoice-level data to the ledger before submitting a return.
Staff bypass the system
Require every sale to use a numbered invoice, limit manual edits, review the edit log, and reconcile daily totals to cash, bank and payment-gateway settlements. Training and permissions usually solve more data-quality problems than changing software.
Best Value
- 2 part carbonless forms (White originals, Canary duplicates) for invoicing customers
- Wraparound cover attached to back to place between sets
- Consecutively numbered within each book
- 50 sets per book
- Space at top for company stamp
Migration produces unexplained opening balances
Freeze the old system at an agreed cut-off date, export detailed ledgers and stock, map each account once, and have the accountant compare the old and new trial balances. Do not start live billing until differences are documented and approved.
Total cost, switching effort and support
The subscription is only one part of ownership. Include data cleanup, GST master-data review, invoice template configuration, staff training, accountant time, integrations, additional users, payment or banking connections, support and the cost of keeping an export if you leave later.
Cloud software reduces local maintenance but makes internet access, account security and vendor availability operational concerns. Desktop software can suit controlled office processes but shifts responsibility for backups, upgrades, remote access and hardware to the business. A lower-cost billing plan can be economical when it replaces paper and spreadsheets; it becomes expensive if an accountant must recreate every ledger manually.
