Recommended Free Tools
Capital One 360 Checking is the best free checking account for most consumers because it combines a $0 monthly fee, no minimum balance requirement, no overdraft fees, broad ATM access, retail cash deposits and some physical banking access. It is not the best choice for earning interest, however. For higher yield, consider nbkc Everything Account or ZYNLO More Spending Account; for frequent international ATM use, Schwab Bank Investor Checking is the stronger fit.
There is no single best free checking account for everyone. The right choice depends on whether you need branches, deposit cash, use ATMs often, want interest or debit-card rewards, receive direct deposit, travel internationally or need overdraft protection. This guide reflects account terms and rates checked against the supplied sources as of August 9, 2026. Checking APYs, fees, eligibility rules and promotional offers can change, so confirm the live disclosure before applying.

Best free checking accounts at a glance
These accounts all have a $0 monthly maintenance fee under the terms reviewed, but “free” does not mean every possible service costs $0. Out-of-network ATM fees, cash-deposit fees, foreign transactions, wires, paper statements and expedited services can still cost money.

Our top picks
1. Capital One 360 Checking: best overall for most consumers
Why it stands out: Capital One 360 Checking is unusually practical for an online-first account. It has no monthly service fee, no minimum balance requirement and no overdraft fee. Customers can use more than 70,000 fee-free Capital One, MoneyPass and Allpoint ATMs, receive qualifying direct deposits early and add cash at participating Walgreens, CVS, Kroger-family stores and 7-Eleven locations. Capital One also lists branch and Café access, although Cafés do not provide every service available at a full branch.
Cash deposits: The current stated limits are up to $999 per transaction, $1,500 per day, $5,000 per month and 10 deposits per month. Retailer or location-level operating restrictions may apply. See Capital One’s cash-deposit instructions before relying on a particular store.
Overdraft qualification: The account does not charge an overdraft fee, but “no fee” does not mean every overdraft will be paid. Capital One says access to certain no-fee overdraft features may require regular deposits of at least $250 during two of the previous three calendar months. The bank can decline a transaction or decide whether to pay it.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesYield qualification: Bankrate lists 0.10% APY, but the accessible text of Capital One’s current account page displayed a malformed “NaN” APY value. Do not publish a definitive rate without manually checking the live disclosure on the publication date.
Best for: A primary checking account for someone who wants broad ATM access, occasional cash deposits and some physical banking access without a monthly fee.
Consider another account if: You keep a substantial balance and want checking to earn a competitive rate, or you need unlimited international ATM-fee reimbursement.
See Capital One 360 Checking’s current terms.
2. nbkc Everything Account: best high-yield checking without recurring activity requirements
Why it stands out: nbkc advertises 1.75% APY with no monthly fee and no minimum balance requirement to earn the advertised rate. The minimum balance to obtain APY is $0.01. Unlike conditional-reward checking accounts, the supplied terms do not require monthly debit-card purchases or direct deposit to receive this rate.
The account offers early direct deposit when the payer submits its payment file early, access to more than 90,000 ATMs globally and up to $12 per month in reimbursement for out-of-network ATM fees. Cash deposits are available at nbkc branches and cash-deposit-enabled MoneyPass or Allpoint ATMs. Bankrate lists only four physical branches, in Kansas and Missouri, so branch access is geographically limited.
nbkc states that deposits are FDIC-insured up to $250,000 per depositor. The rate was listed as effective July 27, 2026, but APYs are variable.
Best for: Someone who wants a meaningful checking yield without tracking monthly tasks.
Consider another account if: You regularly use out-of-network ATMs and could exceed the $12 monthly reimbursement limit, or you need convenient branches outside Kansas and Missouri.

3. ZYNLO More Spending Account: best for yield with savings automation
Why it stands out: ZYNLO’s product page advertises 2.00% APY on checking, no monthly maintenance fee and no minimum balance requirement; the stated minimum balance to earn APY is $0.01. ZYNLO also lists more than 55,000 fee-free Allpoint ATMs and $0 fees for out-of-network ATM use, overdrafts, non-sufficient funds, monthly maintenance and foreign transactions. The ATM owner can still impose its own surcharge.
The account’s ZYNG feature rounds debit purchases up to the next dollar and moves the difference to Tomorrow Savings. ZYNLO matches roundups at 100% for the first 100 days. After that, 100% matching requires a $3,000 average daily balance in the prior statement cycle; otherwise, the match can fall to 25%.
Cash deposits are possible at select Allpoint+ ATMs, but the value of the feature depends on finding a nearby deposit-enabled machine. More importantly, the public rate footnote says the 2.00% APY was valid December 29, 2025. Because that date predates this review, verify the live APY and fee schedule before applying.
Best for: A consumer who wants a high unconditional-looking rate and automatic saving from debit-card roundups.
Consider another account if: You need predictable cash deposits, want a long-established current rate disclosure or do not want rewards dependent on a savings balance.

4. Connexus Xtraordinary Checking: highest yield when you can meet the rules
Why it stands out: Connexus advertises 4.50% APY on balances up to $25,000 when the account holder completes every monthly requirement. That is the highest headline yield among the accounts reviewed, but it is a conditional rate rather than a set-it-and-forget-it benefit.
Each month, you must:
- Enroll in eStatements.
- Receive at least $500 through direct deposit or an ACH deposit from a non-Connexus account.
- Make at least 15 debit-card purchases or spend at least $500 in net debit-card purchases.
ATM transactions do not count toward the debit-purchase requirement. Connexus says an external-account ACH transfer can satisfy the $500 deposit requirement, so payroll direct deposit is not strictly necessary. When the requirements are met, balances above $25,000 earn 0.25% APY. The supplied materials do not establish the exact fallback rate for a month in which requirements are missed; check the current rate schedule rather than assuming the 4.50% rate will continue.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

Missing a requirement can substantially reduce the return. Connexus is a credit union share-draft account, so confirm membership eligibility and current NCUA insurance and fee disclosures.
Best for: Someone who can reliably route at least $500 into the account and use the debit card 15 times or spend $500 each month.
Consider nbkc or ZYNLO instead if: You dislike tracking requirements or frequently forget monthly account tasks.

5. SoFi Checking and Savings: best integrated checking/savings setup
Why it stands out: SoFi combines checking and savings under one login. The supplied current terms list 0.50% APY on checking without balance tiers or activity requirements and up to 3.10% APY on the integrated savings account, subject to the applicable terms. There are no monthly fees, minimum balance requirements or overdraft charges.
SoFi provides access to more than 55,000 fee-free Allpoint ATMs. Eligible customers may receive paychecks up to two days early when qualifying direct deposit is established. Cash deposits through Green Dot partners can cost up to $4.95, which makes SoFi less attractive for people who regularly handle cash. SoFi has no branches.
Up to $50 of no-fee overdraft coverage requires at least $1,000 in eligible direct deposits within a rolling 31-day period. Standard overdraft protection can transfer funds from general savings. The overdraft feature, early pay and current promotional bonuses are separate terms; do not assume that receiving a direct deposit automatically qualifies you for every benefit.
Best for: A direct-deposit user who wants a transaction account and a higher-yield savings account in one digital relationship.
Consider Capital One, Chime or a local institution instead if: You deposit cash frequently or need a branch.
See SoFi Checking and Savings terms and SoFi overdraft conditions.
6. Schwab Bank Investor Checking: best for international ATM use
Why it stands out: Schwab Investor Checking charges no monthly service fee or overdraft fee, has no foreign transaction fees and provides unlimited ATM-fee rebates worldwide. That combination is difficult to beat for frequent travelers or anyone who routinely withdraws cash from machines outside a preferred network.
The account is available only with a linked Schwab One brokerage account. The checking account is FDIC-insured, but the brokerage account is not a deposit, is not FDIC-insured in the same way and may lose value. Schwab says there is no minimum balance requirement for the linked brokerage account, although funding is required to establish Bill Pay and receive a debit card and checks.
Best for: International travelers and consumers who prioritize ATM-fee reimbursement over checking interest, branches or cash deposits.
Consider another account if: You want a bank-only relationship, do not want a brokerage account or frequently deposit cash.
See Schwab Investor Checking and its current FAQs.
7. Happen Bank LevelUp Checking: best for a debit-rewards niche
Why it stands out: LevelUp Checking has no account fees and no minimum balance. It pays 1.00% APY on balances of at least $2,500, and offers 1% cash back on qualifying debit purchases at gas stations, grocery stores and pharmacies after at least one monthly direct deposit is established. Happen also says qualifying customers can receive 2% cash back on on-time payments to a Happen personal loan when they use LevelUp Checking and meet the direct-deposit requirement.

8. American Express Rewards Checking: best for Amex loyalists
Why it stands out: American Express Rewards Checking pays 1.00% APY, has no monthly fee and requires no minimum deposit. Eligible debit-card purchases earn one Membership Rewards point for every $2 spent. Customers can use more than 70,000 fee-free Allpoint and MoneyPass ATMs.
Access is limited mainly to people with a qualifying U.S. Basic Consumer Card issued by American Express National Bank, additional card members or customers with an existing Amex High Yield Savings Account or CD, subject to approval. Cash cannot currently be deposited at ATMs. Amex allows customers to purchase checkbooks and check supplies, so do not assume paper checks are free.
A $300 direct-deposit offer shown on the Amex page had a July 30, 2026 deadline. As of August 9, it should not be treated as a current bonus unless a new offer page confirms it.
Best for: An existing Amex customer who values Membership Rewards points and rarely deposits cash.

9. Chime Checking: best fintech-style option for fee avoidance
Why it stands out: Chime Checking has no monthly fee, no minimum balance fee and no overdraft fee. It provides access to more than 47,000 fee-free ATMs, fee-free cash deposits at Walgreens and potentially early paycheck access of up to two days when qualifying direct deposit is established.
SpotMe can provide up to $200 of fee-free overdraft protection for qualifying users, but eligibility and limits vary. SpotMe is not a promise that every transaction will be paid. Chime’s MyPay product can provide up to $500 in earned-wage access for eligible users, but MyPay is a separate product and must not be confused with checking-account overdraft protection.

Other cash-deposit locations may have different terms, and optional services, out-of-network transactions and some instant transfers can carry fees. Chime is a fintech banking platform rather than a traditional branch bank; review the current account disclosures for the actual partner bank and pass-through deposit-insurance structure.
Best for: Someone who wants a mobile-first account, Walgreens cash deposits and fee-free overdraft protection when eligible.
Consider Capital One or a local bank or credit union if: You want branches, extensive cash services or a conventional bank relationship.

10. Upgrade Rewards Checking Preferred: best for a limited 2% debit-rewards category
Why it stands out: Upgrade Rewards Checking Preferred offers 2% cash back in listed everyday categories, including convenience stores, drugstores, restaurants and bars, gas stations, utilities and monthly subscriptions. Rewards are capped at $500 per calendar year, and at least $1,000 in eligible monthly direct deposits is required for the stated rewards structure.
The account does not pay APY. There are no overdraft fees cited, and there is no fee for Allpoint ATM withdrawals. Out-of-network withdrawals cost $2.50 plus any third-party fee, and foreign debit transactions cost 3%.
Best for: A direct-deposit user whose ordinary spending falls heavily in Upgrade’s qualifying categories.
Consider a credit card instead: Paying everyday expenses directly from checking to earn debit rewards may be less valuable than using a suitable credit card and paying its balance in full. Compare the actual rewards, annual fee, eligibility and spending cap.
See Upgrade Rewards Checking Preferred terms and the cash-back FAQ.
Conditional high-yield checking: compare the dollars, not just the APY
A headline rate can be worth pursuing if the requirements fit your normal behavior. It can be a poor deal if you must manufacture debit-card transactions, reroute deposits or remember monthly deadlines. The following approximate annual-interest comparison assumes the stated APY remains unchanged for a full year and that the account requirements are met whenever required. It excludes taxes and compounding effects.
| Account and assumption | $1,000 | $5,000 | $25,000 | $50,000 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| nbkc at 1.75% | $17.50 | $87.50 | $437.50 | $875 |
| ZYNLO at 2.00% Verify the current rate |
$20 | $100 | $500 | $1,000 |
| Connexus at 4.50% on the first $25,000 and 0.25% above that All monthly requirements met |
$45 | $225 | $1,125 | $1,187.50 |
| Happen at 1.00% Balance must be at least $2,500 to receive APY |
$0 | $50 | $250 | $500 |
| SoFi checking at 0.50% | $5 | $25 | $125 | $250 |
| American Express at 1.00% | $10 | $50 | $250 | $500 |
For example, a $1,000 checking balance earning 1% produces only about $10 per year. At that balance, avoiding a single $30 overdraft or out-of-network ATM charge can matter more than the APY. Conversely, at $25,000, Connexus’s maximum rate can be meaningful—but only if the account holder reliably completes the monthly requirements. Do not hold an oversized emergency fund in checking solely for a capped promotional yield; compare a separate high-yield savings account and insurance coverage.
Best accounts by banking habit
If you need branches or deposit cash frequently
Start with Capital One 360 Checking, a local credit union or a community bank. Capital One accepts cash at participating retail locations and has some branch and Café access. A local institution may be more convenient if you need teller services, cashier’s checks or frequent large cash deposits.
Chime is another practical cash-deposit option because Walgreens deposits are fee-free. Varo says it offers fee-free cash deposits at more than 7,000 CVS locations, although other retail locations may charge fees. nbkc accepts cash at branches and eligible deposit-taking ATMs, but physical branches are limited. ZYNLO’s cash deposits depend on select Allpoint+ ATMs. SoFi deposits through Green Dot partners can cost up to $4.95. American Express currently does not accept ATM cash deposits.
If you want the highest yield without monthly tasks
Compare nbkc and ZYNLO first, subject to live rate verification. nbkc’s 1.75% APY was effective July 27, 2026 and does not require monthly direct deposit or debit spending under the reviewed terms. ZYNLO’s advertised 2.00% APY is potentially higher, but its public footnote is dated December 29, 2025, so the rate needs confirmation.
Connexus can earn more, but it is not a no-requirement account. Happen’s APY starts at a $2,500 balance, while its debit cash back requires direct deposit and qualifying categories.
If you will complete monthly requirements
Connexus is the strongest yield candidate if you can meet the eStatement, $500 deposit and debit-card requirements every month. Happen may fit someone who is already a Happen Bank member and can use the card at qualifying gas stations, grocery stores and pharmacies.
If you travel internationally
Schwab Investor Checking is the clearest fit because it offers unlimited ATM-fee rebates worldwide and no foreign transaction fees. Remember that it requires a linked Schwab One brokerage account. American Express, Upgrade and other accounts may impose foreign transaction or currency-related fees, so do not compare domestic ATM network size alone.
If you already use American Express
American Express Rewards Checking can add Membership Rewards points to eligible debit spending and provides 1.00% APY with no monthly fee. The application gate and lack of ATM cash deposits make it a niche choice rather than a universal recommendation.
If you want checking and savings together
SoFi is the most straightforward integrated setup in this group: 0.50% APY on checking and up to 3.10% APY on savings under the cited terms, with no monthly or overdraft fees. It is less suitable for cash-heavy households and people who need branches.
If you want a two-account setup
A practical arrangement can be a fee-free transaction account with convenient cash and ATM access—such as Capital One 360—and a separate higher-yield account such as nbkc or a verified ZYNLO account. Keep enough in checking for bills and ordinary spending, and place the rest in an appropriate savings account rather than chasing a checking rate that has a balance cap or monthly requirements.
What “free checking” should mean
For this comparison, a genuinely free checking account should meet all or nearly all of these standards:
Best Value
- 12 Easy Read Register Checkbook Transaction Registers: Balance your check account withdrawals with this checkbook register featuring 16 lines per pages. This thicker body paper is small enough to carry in your pocket or wallet. Column headings are bold easy to read.
- Made in the USA. Each register has 444 lines. Lines are gray in color. Standard checkbook registers having Item No. Date, Description of Transaction, Payment Debit, Deposit Credit and Balance Column.
- High-quality ink print is easy on the eyes and a great booklet for easy insertion into your checkbook.
- Calendars on Back: Check register has up-to date 2025-2026-2027 calendars printed on the back.
- Checkbook Measures: Checkbook register measures 6x3 inches.
- $0 monthly maintenance fee without a waiver condition. An account that charges $12 unless you receive direct deposit is not equivalent to a permanently free account.
- $0 minimum-balance fee. A minimum balance to earn APY is a separate issue and must be disclosed.
- No required direct deposit just to avoid a monthly fee. Direct deposit may still unlock better overdraft terms, cash back or a bonus.
- No overdraft or NSF fee, or a clearly explained decline-and-no-fee alternative. A bank can decline a transaction rather than pay it.
- A realistic way to access cash. Consider both network size and the availability of nearby ATMs or cash-deposit locations.
- No mandatory subscription to receive the advertised account features.
- Clear FDIC or NCUA insurance status.
Even a qualifying account can charge for out-of-network ATM use or third-party ATM surcharges, outgoing wires, stop payments, expedited card replacement, paper statements, extra checkbooks, inactivity or escheatment, cash deposits, instant transfers and optional overdraft or earned-wage-access services. Read the fee schedule, not just the account’s marketing page.
Overdraft protection: what “no fee” does and does not promise
Overdraft policies differ in ways that matter more than a $0 fee headline:
- Decline without a fee: The bank may simply refuse the debit, ACH or check. The merchant or biller could still impose a returned-payment fee or treat the payment as late.
- Automatic savings transfer: Funds may be moved from savings to cover a transaction, subject to the account’s terms.
- Fee-free buffer: Chime SpotMe and SoFi’s qualifying coverage provide limited protection, but eligibility, limits and transaction types apply.
- Discretionary payment: Capital One does not charge an overdraft fee, but it can decline transactions or decide whether to pay an overdraft; certain access may require regular deposits.
- Transaction-type differences: Under Regulation E, institutions generally must obtain affirmative opt-in before charging overdraft fees on ATM and one-time debit-card transactions. That rule does not eliminate possible fees or returned-payment consequences for checks, ACH payments and recurring debits. See the CFPB overdraft guidance and Regulation E.

Money in a checking account should not be evaluated solely by the app’s brand name. Confirm which legal institution holds the deposit and how insurance works.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- FDIC-insured banks: FDIC insurance generally covers up to $250,000 per depositor, per FDIC-insured bank, per ownership category. It is not a blanket $250,000 limit for every account a person owns across all banks. See the FDIC deposit-insurance FAQ.
- Federally insured credit unions: NCUA share insurance generally provides up to $250,000 under the applicable ownership categories. See NCUA share-insurance coverage. Connexus applicants should also confirm membership eligibility.
- Fintech platforms: An app may use a partner bank and pass-through insurance. Review the program-bank name, recordkeeping arrangements and what happens if the fintech or partner bank fails.
- Brokerage-based alternatives: Schwab Investor Checking requires a linked brokerage account. Fidelity’s Cash Management Account is itself a brokerage account, not a conventional bank checking account. Eligible swept deposits may receive FDIC coverage, while money-market-fund balances are not FDIC-insured. See Fidelity’s Cash Management FAQ.
Accounts that need special treatment
Discover Cashback Debit: existing customers, not a new-applicant pick
Discover’s product materials still describe 1% cash back on up to $3,000 in monthly debit purchases and 60,000+ fee-free ATMs. However, Capital One says Discover merged into Capital One on May 18, 2025 and instructs existing Discover checking customers to continue using their accounts while Capital One contacts them about future changes. Current secondary coverage reports that Discover stopped accepting new deposit-account applications in January 2026.
Therefore, do not casually include Discover Cashback Debit in a 2026 ranking for people opening a new account. Label it existing Discover customers only / not currently available to new applicants unless a live new-account application path is independently confirmed. See Capital One’s Discover checking transition page. This distinction is important because some otherwise current comparison pages continue to display Discover’s older product benefits.
Fidelity Cash Management Account: useful alternative, but not checking
Fidelity’s Cash Management Account can appeal to readers who want no account fees, no minimums and unlimited ATM reimbursement. It belongs in an alternatives section, not a conventional bank-checking ranking, because it is a brokerage account and its yield and insurance depend on the selected cash option. Money-market-fund balances are not FDIC-insured.
Other comparison-list accounts
Ally, Axos, Bask, E*TRADE, Fifth Third, Texas Capital, Digital Federal Credit Union, State Department Federal Credit Union, TAB Bank and other institutions appear in major comparison coverage. Their inclusion on another list does not automatically make their current terms better than the accounts above. Check the live APY, fee schedule, ATM network, deposit requirements and applicant eligibility before applying. If you use Zelle, verify direct participation: NerdWallet notes that Axos is not integrated with the Zelle network, while Bask is listed as participating.

Comparison sites use different scoring systems and do not always update every product fact at the same time:
- Forbes Advisor says it analyzed 422 checking accounts at 143 financial institutions using 17 data points covering fees, access, digital experience, customer experience and minimum requirements. Its breadth is useful, but its current list includes Discover without fully resolving new-applicant availability.
- NerdWallet says it assessed about 100 financial institutions and more than 60 data points, including fees, rates, ATM and branch access, bonuses, customer service and technology. Its coverage is broad, but generic labels such as “best for free checking account” do not always distinguish the actual use case, and rates require live verification.
- Bankrate’s page is titled “Best Free Checking Accounts for August 2026” but identifies an April 15, 2026 update date. That gap matters for variable APYs, bonuses and changing corporate brands.
For a rate-sensitive decision, the bank or credit union’s current account disclosure and fee schedule should override an older comparison-page summary.
How to choose your account in five minutes
- List your non-negotiables: branches, cash deposits, paper checks, Zelle, international ATM use, early direct deposit or overdraft protection.
- Eliminate accounts with inaccessible requirements: Do not choose a conditional APY if you will not reliably complete its deposit, debit-spending or eStatement rules.
- Compare your likely balance: At $1,000, fee avoidance and rewards may beat a small APY difference. At $25,000, the rate and balance cap matter much more.
- Map ATM and cash locations: A large national network is not useful if the nearest deposit-taking ATM is far away. Distinguish fee-free network access from reimbursement of an ATM owner’s surcharge.
- Read the final disclosures: Confirm the APY effective date, fee schedule, overdraft transaction types, insurance, membership eligibility and application availability.
How to switch checking accounts safely
- Open and fund the new account before closing the old one.
- Keep the old account open through at least one full billing cycle.
- Move payroll or government direct deposit and wait until the first payment arrives in the new account.
- Update recurring bills, subscriptions, rent, utilities and loan payments.
- Transfer scheduled ACH debits and update linked external bank accounts.
- Download old statements, tax documents and transaction records.
- Confirm that outstanding checks, pending debit-card purchases and delayed ACH transactions have cleared.
- Leave enough money in the old account to cover transactions that have not posted yet.
- Close the old account only after all activity clears and any automatic transfers are canceled.
- Request and keep written confirmation that the old account was closed with a $0 balance.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best free checking account for most people in 2026?
Capital One 360 Checking is the strongest general-purpose choice in this comparison because it has no monthly fee or minimum balance requirement, no overdraft fees, more than 70,000 fee-free ATMs, retail cash deposits and some physical banking access. Its checking yield is low, and its current APY should be confirmed manually before opening.
Does a $0 overdraft fee mean the bank will pay every overdraft?
No. The bank may decline the transaction without charging an overdraft fee, or it may offer limited coverage subject to eligibility. Checks, ACH payments and recurring debits can also create returned-payment or merchant consequences even when the bank does not charge an overdraft fee.

Are fintech checking accounts FDIC-insured?
Some fintech programs provide pass-through FDIC insurance through a partner bank, but coverage depends on the partner-bank arrangement, account records and applicable ownership limits. Identify the actual bank in the account disclosures instead of relying only on the app’s brand.
Is Discover Cashback Debit available to new applicants in 2026?
It should not be treated as available to new applicants without confirming a live application path. Capital One says Discover merged into Capital One in May 2025, and current secondary coverage reports that Discover stopped accepting new deposit-account applications in January 2026. Existing customers may continue using their accounts while transition information is provided.
Is Schwab Investor Checking a normal bank checking account?
It is a bank checking account linked to a Schwab One brokerage account. The checking account is FDIC-insured, but the linked brokerage account is not a deposit and may lose value. Schwab is particularly attractive for unlimited worldwide ATM-fee rebates and no foreign transaction fees.
Should I choose the highest checking APY?
Not automatically. Compare the balance cap, requirements, fallback rate and your actual average balance. Connexus’s 4.50% APY is compelling only when its monthly requirements are met, while nbkc’s lower rate may be more valuable for someone who wants no recurring tasks.
The Bottom Line
Choose Capital One 360 Checking for the best balance of no-fee everyday banking, ATM access, cash deposits and limited branch access. Choose nbkc for straightforward interest without monthly activity requirements, ZYNLO if its advertised rate is still live and you value automated saving, Connexus if you can meet every monthly requirement, SoFi for an integrated checking-and-savings setup, and Schwab for international ATM use. If none is a clear fit, a two-account setup—a convenient spending account plus a separate insured savings account—may be more useful than forcing every feature into one checking account.
