Kraken is the strongest default for active European traders, Coinbase has the clearest documented SEPA cash-out process, Bitpanda Fusion suits users who want an EU-native multi-asset venue, Bitstamp emphasizes regulated longevity, and Crypto.com combines SEPA Instant with a broader card ecosystem. The right choice depends on your country, the regulated entity serving you, whether your bank supports SEPA Instant, and the full cost of trading—not simply whether an exchange accepts euros.
This guide compares the five services on MiCA authorisation, SEPA deposits and withdrawals, costs, asset access, restrictions and day-to-day usability for EU and EEA residents. Availability changes by country and product, so confirm the live terms immediately before sending money.

Quick comparison
The table is a starting point, not a guarantee that every feature is available in every EU or EEA country. Asset counts and fee figures are dated or product-specific where noted.
| Exchange | Best fit | Regulatory or SEPA evidence | Assets or pairs | Published cost or timing evidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kraken | Active traders who want broad market access | Payward Europe Solutions Limited says it is a MiCA Crypto-Asset Service Provider licensed by the Central Bank of Ireland; EUR deposits and withdrawals are supported across EU member states, subject to published EEA restrictions | More than 600 crypto assets (Kraken, 2026) | Current SEPA fees and settlement times vary by rail and bank; check the funding screen |
| Coinbase | Beginners prioritising a clearly documented euro withdrawal flow | Bank account must first be verified with a successful SEPA deposit; EUR withdrawal instructions use SEPA | Not stated in the supplied current evidence | No fee for the documented SEPA withdrawal method; typical arrival 1–3 business days (Coinbase, 2026) |
| Bitpanda Fusion | EU-native multi-asset users and advanced execution | Bitpanda says it is licensed by Austria’s FMA and Germany’s BaFin and MiCAR compliant across the EU; advertises SEPA Instant and bank-wire funding | More than 2,000 trading pairs | No Bitpanda-charged Fusion deposit or withdrawal fee advertised; Fusion fee schedule ranges from 0.25% entry tier to 0.02% at the highest listed volume tier, before third-party charges and other costs |
| Bitstamp | Users who value an established, security-oriented venue | FXEmpire’s comparison, updated November 23, 2025, reports a Luxembourg MiCA licence | About 100 assets in that dated comparison | FXEmpire’s snapshot lists 0.3% taker and 0.2% maker; confirm the current schedule |
| Crypto.com | Users wanting SEPA Instant plus an optional card ecosystem | FXEmpire’s dated comparison reports a MiCA licence and free SEPA Instant EUR deposits and withdrawals | About 430 assets in that comparison (FXEmpire, 2025) | Card rewards, eligibility and country availability vary; “free” SEPA claims remain subject to bank and product terms |
What “EU-friendly” should mean
Accepting euros is only the first test. A genuinely EU-friendly exchange should identify the legal entity holding your account, show which regulator supervises that entity, explain where its MiCA authorisation applies, and state which products and assets EEA residents can actually use.
#1 Best Overall
MiCA authorisation and the responsible entity
The Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework is being phased in across the EU. Kraken says that from July 1, 2026, all crypto exchanges operating in EU member states must hold a MiCA Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) licence. That statement is Kraken’s regulatory explanation; it does not by itself prove that every service, asset or country is available through Kraken.
When you open an account, look for the exact corporate name in the legal or regulatory disclosure. Then verify the issuing regulator, the services covered, and the countries reached through passporting. A group may operate several entities, and the entity serving you can affect custody terms, complaint routes, product restrictions and transition dates.
Country and product scope
“EU” and “EEA” are not interchangeable in every product rule. An exchange can support EUR transfers while blocking a particular token, stablecoin, staking service or derivatives product for residents of your country. Read the country schedule and the asset availability page before depositing; do not infer eligibility from a global marketing page.

How SEPA funding works
SEPA is the euro payment network used by banks in participating European countries. Standard SEPA transfers and SEPA Instant are different rails: standard payments may settle on business-day schedules, while Instant can arrive within seconds when both banks support it. An exchange’s “SEPA support” may cover deposits, withdrawals or both, and may use standard SEPA rather than Instant.
Checks before sending a deposit
- Confirm the beneficiary name and IBAN shown inside your logged-in exchange account. Do not rely on an old screenshot or a bank-transfer detail copied from a forum.
- Use a bank account in your own name if the exchange requires name matching.
- Check the minimum and maximum transfer amount, reference or payment ID, and whether your bank offers SEPA Instant.
- Read the exchange’s pending, rejected and returned-payment instructions. A missing reference can delay manual allocation.
- Keep the bank confirmation and exchange deposit receipt for your records.
Checks before withdrawing euros
- Verify the destination IBAN and account-holder name.
- Confirm whether the exchange requires a prior successful SEPA deposit to whitelist the bank account.
- Review the displayed fee, expected settlement window and any daily limit immediately before approval.
- Do not treat an “instant” label as a promise that your receiving bank will credit funds instantly.
Exchange-by-exchange analysis
Kraken: the broad-access default for active traders
Kraken identifies Payward Europe Solutions Limited as a MiCA CASP licensed by Ireland’s Central Bank. It says EUR fiat deposits and withdrawals are supported across EU member states and advertises more than 600 crypto assets. That combination makes it the most natural starting point for a trader who needs many markets rather than a minimal buy-and-sell interface.
The breadth comes with a verification obligation. Kraken publishes EEA restrictions covering assets that clients cannot deposit or trade. An asset visible in a global catalogue may therefore be unavailable to you. Check the live country and asset pages after signing in, especially if you plan to move an existing token into the account.
Rank #2
- Ideal for Gifting
- Ideal for a bookworm
- Compact for travelling
Kraken is a better fit when you are comfortable comparing order types, fee tiers and EUR trading pairs. A beginner who only needs occasional euro withdrawals may prefer a simpler workflow, even if Kraken lists more markets.
Coinbase: the clearest documented SEPA withdrawal path
Coinbase’s EUR SEPA withdrawal instructions are unusually explicit. You first verify a bank account with a successful SEPA deposit, select EUR and SEPA when withdrawing, and the help page says there are no fees associated with that payment method. It gives a typical withdrawal time of one to three business days.
That is a useful beginner benchmark, not a guarantee. The arrival estimate is typical rather than instant, and your bank can add its own processing delay. Confirm the legal entity serving your country, account limits, trading spread and the current list of supported countries before treating the documented flow as your complete cost.
For a small number of euro cash-outs, predictable instructions may matter more than the widest token catalogue. For frequent trading, calculate the spread and trading fee on the exact order size; a free bank withdrawal does not make the overall transaction free.
Bitpanda Fusion: EU-native breadth with an advanced interface
Bitpanda says Fusion is licensed by Austria’s FMA and Germany’s BaFin and MiCAR compliant across the EU. It advertises SEPA Instant and bank-wire funding, more than 2,000 trading pairs and no Bitpanda-charged deposit or withdrawal fees on Fusion.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fusion’s published fee table is volume-based: the entry tier is 0.25%, while the highest listed tier falls to 0.02%. These are Fusion figures, not a universal Bitpanda rate card. Third-party bank fees, conversion costs, taxes, government charges, availability limits and eligibility can still apply. Check the quote preview and the fee tier that your own 30-day volume qualifies for.
Rank #3
Fusion is suited to someone who wants a large selection and more control over execution. If you simply want to buy one major coin and withdraw euros, the extra trading-pair breadth may add complexity without a practical benefit.
Bitstamp: a longevity and security-oriented option
FXEmpire’s comparison, updated November 23, 2025, selected Bitstamp for a security-oriented profile and reported a Luxembourg MiCA licence. Its dated table listed about 100 crypto assets and a 0.3% taker / 0.2% maker figure.
Those numbers are a historical snapshot, not a permanent schedule. Confirm the current fee table, supported assets and the precise Luxembourg entity before opening an account. Bitstamp belongs on a shortlist when a comparatively focused catalogue and an established regulated venue matter more to you than having hundreds of additional tokens.
Crypto.com: SEPA Instant with an optional card ecosystem
FXEmpire’s comparison identified Crypto.com as its overall pick and reported a MiCA licence, free SEPA Instant EUR deposits and withdrawals, about 430 available assets and an integrated Visa card. The card is an ecosystem feature, not evidence that the exchange has the lowest trading cost.
Card rewards, supported products and eligibility can change by country. Treat the card as optional: compare the exchange’s spot fees, spread, conversion charges and any card-specific conditions separately from the SEPA transfer cost. Confirm whether your own bank and account jurisdiction are covered by the advertised Instant rail.
Compare total cost, not the headline SEPA fee
Your euro cost is usually the sum of several layers. A no-fee withdrawal can still follow an expensive conversion or a wide spread, while a small trading fee can be offset by a cheap bank rail.
Rank #4
| Cost layer | What to inspect | Why it changes the result |
|---|---|---|
| Trading fee | Maker and taker rate, volume tier and order type | Market orders generally execute against existing liquidity; your rate may differ from a posted maker rate |
| Spread | Difference between the quoted buy and sell prices | A simple “buy” screen can embed a spread that is larger than the separately displayed commission |
| EUR conversion | FX or conversion charge when the asset is not quoted directly in EUR | You may pay twice when converting euros to another fiat currency and then buying crypto |
| SEPA deposit or withdrawal | Exchange fee, bank fee, standard versus Instant rail and limits | “Free” may refer only to the exchange’s charge and not to an intermediary or receiving bank |
| Network withdrawal | Blockchain fee, asset and network selected | This is separate from sending euros to your bank and can vary with network congestion |
| Card and optional products | Card conditions, conversion rules and rewards eligibility | An ecosystem benefit can introduce a different fee schedule and country restrictions |
Before committing funds, enter the same hypothetical transaction on two or three venues: euro amount, asset, order type, withdrawal destination and final amount received. Record the preview rather than comparing only the advertised percentage.
Choose by reader priority
If you are an active trader
Start with Kraken for its stated 600-plus asset coverage, then confirm that the specific EEA markets and EUR pairs you need remain permitted. Compare your actual maker/taker tier and spread with Fusion if Bitpanda’s 2,000-plus pairs include markets you trade.
If simple euro cash-out matters most
Coinbase provides the clearest documented sequence: make a successful SEPA deposit to verify the bank account, then withdraw EUR by SEPA with no fee stated for that method and a typical one-to-three-business-day arrival. Keep a second venue in consideration if your country, limits or asset list do not fit.
If you want SEPA Instant
Bitpanda Fusion and Crypto.com advertise SEPA Instant, while Crypto.com’s comparison also reports free Instant deposits and withdrawals. Ask your bank whether it supports Instant and inspect the exchange confirmation screen; the rail cannot be faster than the participating bank chain.
If regulatory location is your first filter
Compare the exact entity and regulator: Payward Europe Solutions Limited with Ireland’s Central Bank for Kraken; Bitpanda’s stated Austria FMA and Germany BaFin licences; Bitstamp’s Luxembourg licence as reported in FXEmpire’s November 2025 comparison; and the MiCA licence reported for Crypto.com in that same dated comparison. Coinbase’s current legal entity should be confirmed in its own country-specific disclosures before account opening.

Kraken’s more than 600 assets and Fusion’s more than 2,000 trading pairs are the largest figures in this comparison, but they measure different things: assets versus trading pairs. Neither number proves that your preferred coin, stablecoin or product is available to an EEA resident.

Account-opening and first-transfer checklist
- Identify your jurisdiction. Write down your country of residence and whether the service lists it under EU or EEA coverage.
- Record the legal entity. Save the entity name, regulator and MiCA/CASP status shown during onboarding.
- Complete identity verification. Use information that matches your bank account and tax records; mismatches can delay withdrawals.
- Enable account protection. Turn on an authenticator-based two-factor method, use a unique password and save recovery codes offline.
- Read the live asset and product schedule. Check spot trading, stablecoins, staking, derivatives and any token you plan to deposit.
- Connect your bank carefully. Add an account in your name, copy the current IBAN and include the exact reference required.
- Send a small test SEPA payment. Wait for the exchange to credit it before transferring the amount you intend to invest.
- Place the first trade with the preview open. Compare quoted price, spread, commission and the final crypto amount.
- Test a small withdrawal. Confirm the destination bank, expected timing and received amount before relying on the account for regular cash-outs.
- Keep records. Export trade confirmations, deposits, withdrawals and fee statements in a format you can retrieve later.
Common failure modes and fixes
The SEPA transfer is pending
Check whether you used standard SEPA, whether the bank sent the exact reference, and whether the beneficiary details are current. Do not send a second payment until support confirms the first is not being allocated.
The bank account cannot be used for withdrawal
Coinbase’s documented process illustrates a common control: the account must first be verified with a successful SEPA deposit. Other venues may apply a similar ownership check. Make the small verification deposit from the account you intend to use and wait for confirmation.
The token appears globally but is unavailable in the EEA
Follow the exchange’s country and asset restriction page rather than a global asset counter. Kraken explicitly warns that some EEA clients cannot deposit or trade particular assets. Do not transfer a restricted token until the deposit screen confirms support for your jurisdiction and network.

Reopen the order preview and separate trading commission, spread, conversion, network and bank charges. On Fusion, confirm which volume tier applies; the 0.02% figure is the highest listed tier, not the entry rate of 0.25%.
SEPA Instant did not arrive instantly
Confirm that both the sending and receiving banks support the Instant scheme, that the exchange actually used Instant rather than standard SEPA, and that the transfer was not held for a compliance review. “Instant” describes the payment rail, not an unconditional settlement promise.
Security and custody questions to ask
MiCA authorisation addresses regulatory supervision; it is not a guarantee against every operational, market or custody loss. Before depositing, look for clear information about where customer assets are held, withdrawal controls, two-factor authentication, address whitelisting, account recovery, incident communication and any proof-of-reserves methodology. A proof-of-reserves statement, if offered, should be read with its scope and liabilities rather than treated as a blanket guarantee.
Use a separate email address for the account, reject unsolicited support messages, and verify withdrawal addresses on a trusted device. Keep only the amount you need for trading on an exchange; long-term holdings may warrant a custody arrangement whose risks and recovery process you understand.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhat to recheck before every deposit
- Your country is still supported by the relevant legal entity.
- The exchange’s MiCA/CASP entry and passporting information have not changed.
- The exact coin, stablecoin, network and product are available to EEA residents.
- The current maker/taker, spread, conversion and SEPA charges match your calculation.
- The bank beneficiary, IBAN, reference and account-name requirements are current.
- Your bank supports the advertised standard or Instant SEPA rail.
- You have a withdrawal plan and a copy of the transaction records.
The Bottom Line
For most EU readers, shortlist Kraken for market breadth, Coinbase for a clearly documented SEPA withdrawal, Bitpanda Fusion for EU-native breadth and SEPA Instant, Bitstamp for a focused regulated venue, and Crypto.com for an Instant-SEPA-plus-card ecosystem. Verify the serving entity, MiCA scope, country restrictions and complete transaction cost immediately before funding.
