Koinly is the strongest documented starting point for Korean exchange users because its country-support documentation includes South Korea and its workflow accepts API and CSV data, then produces detailed transaction and balance reports. For a Bithumb account, CoinTracking has the clearest exchange-specific evidence because it publishes a Bithumb CSV import and tax-report workflow. CoinTracker is a practical option for portfolios spread across exchanges, self-custody wallets and on-chain addresses, but its published country table does not establish South Korea-specific tax forms. Treat all three as conditional choices: verify your exact exchange connection, reconcile every transfer and fee, and have a Korean tax professional review the resulting records before filing.
Which crypto tax software is best for Korean exchanges?
There is no universal winner because Korean users have different combinations of exchanges, wallets, staking rewards and on-chain activity. The most defensible starting points are:

| Software | Documented strength | Best fit | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Koinly | South Korea appears on its supported-country list; imports can use an API where available or CSV/Excel files; reports include summarized and itemized activity, asset summaries and wallet balances. | Several exchanges and wallets needing one reconciliation workspace. | South Korea support does not prove an API for every Korean exchange or a Korean filing form. |
| CoinTracking | Publishes a dedicated Bithumb CSV import and tax-report guide, with tools to combine Bithumb data with other wallets and exchanges. | Bithumb users who can export files and are comfortable checking mappings manually. | The strongest exchange-specific evidence is for Bithumb CSV, not universal Korean-exchange API coverage. |
| CoinTracker | Supports API or sign-in sync, direct CSV, public-address or xPub imports and WalletConnect; it says reports cover more than 100 countries. | Mixed exchange, wallet and blockchain portfolios requiring multiple ingestion methods. | The published country table does not establish South Korea-specific forms; unlisted countries receive general transaction and gains reports. |
Use the table as a shortlist, not as proof that an account will import correctly. An integration can exist while still mishandling a particular transaction type, such as an internal transfer, fee paid in a second token or staking distribution. You should test a representative export before paying for a plan.
What changed in Korean crypto taxation?
The National Tax Service says the National Assembly passed an amendment to the Income Tax Act in December 2024 that postponed implementation of virtual-asset income taxation by two years. Its notice states:
#1 Best Overall
“국회에서 소득세법 개정안이 통과(’24.12.)되어 가상자산소득 과세 시행이 2년 유예 되었음을 알려드립니다.”
Under that guidance, transfers or lending of virtual assets are treated as separate other income from 2027-01-01. Registered virtual-asset businesses are also required to submit transaction statements and aggregate reports for transactions from that date. The practical consequence is not that earlier records can be ignored. Complete imports, reconciled cost basis and an audit trail make it easier to identify the transactions that fall into the new period and to answer questions about acquisition history.
The software discussed here calculates and organizes transaction data; it does not replace a Korean tax adviser. The available documentation does not establish a single Korean filing form supported by all three products, nor does it establish a tax-rate calculation that applies to every taxpayer. Ask an adviser how the current rules apply to your residence, transaction dates and asset activity.

Judge software against the data you actually have rather than against a marketing list of integrations. Five checks matter most.
1. Confirm the exact exchange connection
An exchange may offer an API integration, a downloadable CSV, both, or neither. Check the product’s current integration directory for the precise exchange name and account type. If the listing is absent, plan on a CSV workflow and verify that the exchange can export the full date range, not merely a recent statement. Do not assume that support for one Korean platform implies support for another.
2. Test transaction completeness
Your import must represent deposits, withdrawals, trades, internal transfers, fees, staking or lending income, airdrops and any decentralized-finance activity you used. A balance that looks plausible can still hide missing lots or duplicated transfers. Compare the imported totals with the exchange’s own trade, deposit and withdrawal histories.
3. Check cost-basis controls
Koinly documents FIFO, LIFO, HIFO and average-cost choices where applicable. The other products may expose different settings by country, asset or account. Record the method you select, the date you selected it and any assumptions about unidentified lots. Changing a method after reviewing gains can materially change the result, so make the choice deliberately and preserve an export of the final settings.

4. Inspect the reports an accountant will need
Useful output normally includes itemized transactions, acquisition and disposal dates, proceeds, fees, gains or losses, asset summaries and wallet balances. Koinly explicitly describes these report types. CoinTracking’s Bithumb workflow describes combining data, calculating gains and losses and generating a tax report. CoinTracker distinguishes country-specific forms from general transaction and gains reports. Download a sample report during the trial or before purchase and make sure it is legible to your adviser.

5. Verify support and retention
Check current transaction limits, plan tiers, support response times and export availability on the purchase page. Those commercial details change, and the available material does not provide a reliable current price comparison. Make sure you can retain your raw exchange files and the final reports independently of the subscription.
Koinly: broadest documented starting point for Korean users
Koinly lists South Korea among its supported countries. That is useful evidence that the product is intended for Korean tax users, but it is not evidence that every Korean exchange has an automated connector or that a Korean government form is generated.
How Koinly imports data
Its import documentation describes two paths:
- API auto-sync: use this only when the current integration directory lists your exchange and the permissions can be restricted to read-only data.
- CSV or Excel upload: export the exchange’s complete history, then upload the file when no supported API exists or when an API omits older records.
Keep the original exchange export unchanged. If you need to edit a column to match a template, save the edited copy separately so an accountant can trace every adjustment to the source file.

Reports and cost-basis methods
Koinly describes a complete report with summarized and itemized activity, plus asset-summary and wallet-balance reports. Those outputs help you move from a high-level gain figure to the individual lot and transfer that produced it. It also documents FIFO, LIFO, HIFO and average-cost methods where applicable. “Where applicable” matters: the available documentation does not explain every Korean-specific limitation, so confirm which methods the current account permits and whether the chosen method is appropriate under your adviser’s interpretation of the rules.
When Koinly is the sensible first test
- You use more than one exchange and need to match transfers between them.
- You hold assets in a personal wallet as well as on an exchange.
- You want both a summarized view for planning and itemized files for professional review.
- Your exchange offers a reliable CSV but no documented API.
Before committing, import a small but representative period containing a trade, a withdrawal, a deposit and a fee. Investigate every unmatched item before importing the rest of the years.
CoinTracking: the clearest documented route for Bithumb CSV
CoinTracking publishes a Bithumb-specific guide. The documented sequence is to export Bithumb transaction history as a CSV, upload it, combine it with data from other exchanges and wallets, calculate gains and losses, and generate a tax report.
Bithumb workflow
- In Bithumb, request the account’s transaction history for the full period you need, including trades, deposits, withdrawals and fees when the export offers separate categories.
- Save the untouched CSV with the export date in its filename. Do not overwrite it when correcting a column or date format.
- Upload the file through CoinTracking’s Bithumb import route and inspect the transaction count and date range shown after import.
- Add every other exchange and wallet as separate sources. Label internal transfers consistently so the same movement is not treated as a taxable disposal on one side and a second acquisition on the other.
- Review calculated gains and losses, then generate the tax report and an itemized transaction export for your adviser.
This is a strong fit for a Bithumb user who prefers file-based control. It does not establish that CoinTracking can automatically connect to every Korean platform, nor that a Bithumb export will contain every field needed for an unusual product such as a lending distribution. Check the source file and classification for those events.
CoinTracker: flexible ingestion for mixed wallets and exchanges
CoinTracker documents automatic API or sign-in synchronization, direct CSV import, public-address or extended public-key (xPub) import and WalletConnect. It recommends CSV when an exchange is not available as a direct integration. This combination is useful when your portfolio spans a centralized exchange, a hardware-wallet address and on-chain applications.
Rank #3
What its country coverage means
CoinTracker says it calculates tax reports for more than 100 countries, while noting that country-specific forms are limited. Users in countries not listed for a dedicated form can still download general transaction and gains reports. The published country table does not establish a South Korea-specific form, so treat the product as a data-ingestion and reporting tool unless a Korean professional confirms that its output meets your filing needs.
Wallet and address cautions
A public-address import can reveal on-chain activity but cannot identify your personal intent. The software may need your help to distinguish a transfer between your own wallets from a payment, swap or income event. WalletConnect can bring in supported decentralized applications, yet you still need to review token symbols, network fees and contract interactions. Keep a map of addresses and the date each address came under your control.
Upbit, Bithumb and other Korean exchanges: what can you safely assume?
Readers often ask, “What is the best crypto tax software for Upbit or Bithumb?” The answer depends on the export and integration available today. The available evidence specifically documents Bithumb CSV handling in CoinTracking and South Korea as a supported country in Koinly; it does not verify a current Upbit API connection for any product.
| Your situation | Practical first test | What to verify before relying on the result |
|---|---|---|
| Bithumb with downloadable history | Compare CoinTracking’s Bithumb CSV workflow with a Koinly CSV import. | Whether all years, fees, deposits and withdrawals appear, and whether duplicate transfers are created. |
| Upbit account | Check each product’s live integration directory; if no connector is listed, export Upbit CSV and test the file. | That the export includes the full date range and that the importer recognizes Korean date, currency and fee fields. |
| Several Korean exchanges | Use CSV files as separate sources first, then test API sync only for listed connectors. | Consistent treatment of transfers between accounts and a report that an adviser can inspect. |
| Exchange plus self-custody wallet | Use CSV for the exchange and an address, xPub or WalletConnect method for the wallet where supported. | Ownership labels, network fees, swaps and internal transfers. |
Do not infer support from a blog post or an old screenshot. Integration directories and export formats change; verify them immediately before purchase and again when you begin a new tax period.
A complete preparation workflow before you file
The software is only as reliable as the records you feed it. Follow this order so that errors are found before a report reaches an adviser.
Step 1: Inventory every account and address
List each Korean exchange, overseas exchange, brokerage-like crypto service, personal wallet, hardware-wallet address and decentralized application. Include closed accounts. Record the account owner, base currency, opening date and the date you stopped using it.
Step 2: Collect source files and access records
Download trade, deposit, withdrawal, fee, staking, lending and reward histories for the entire period. Save API-generated files and manual CSV exports in a read-only folder with clear filenames. If an exchange limits the date range per export, download consecutive ranges and keep a written note showing how they join.
Step 3: Import one source at a time
Start with the exchange that has the most activity. Confirm that the earliest and latest dates match the source file and that the number of trades is plausible. Add the next source only after the first passes those checks; this makes a duplicate or missing batch easier to locate.
Step 4: Match internal transfers
A withdrawal from one of your accounts should pair with a deposit into another. Match by asset, quantity, timestamp and destination, allowing for network fees. Unmatched withdrawals can be mistaken for disposals; unmatched deposits can be mistaken for income. Never delete an unmatched line simply to make the balance agree.
Step 5: Classify special activity
- Fees: confirm which asset paid the fee and whether it was deducted from the received amount.
- Staking or lending: identify the distribution date, asset quantity and source program.
- Airdrops: preserve the announcement or account record showing how the tokens arrived.
- DeFi swaps: capture both sides of the transaction and the network fee, not just the wallet’s net balance change.
- Fiat deposits and withdrawals: keep bank or exchange records that explain cash movement without treating a fiat transfer as a crypto disposal.
Step 6: Resolve missing cost basis
When a coin arrives without a matched acquisition, search older exchange files and wallet history before entering a manual basis. If the original acquisition cannot be established, flag the lot for professional review and document the assumption used by the software. A guessed basis can distort every later disposal of that lot.
Step 7: Select and document the cost method
Choose the method available and appropriate for your circumstances, such as FIFO, LIFO, HIFO or average cost where the software and applicable rules permit. Save a PDF or screenshot of the setting, the date selected and any account-level exceptions. Do not compare two methods and report the more favorable one without discussing the choice with a tax professional.

For each exchange and wallet, compare the software’s ending asset balance with the platform statement or on-chain balance at the same cutoff time. Explain differences caused by pending withdrawals, dust, unsupported tokens or rounding. A zero balance in the software is not proof that the account was empty.
Step 9: Export an accountant package
Provide the itemized transaction report, gains and losses report, asset summary, wallet balances, cost-basis settings, source CSVs and a short list of unresolved items. Keep the package unaltered after delivery; if a correction is made, create a new version and describe the change.

The API connects but old transactions are missing
Many connectors retrieve only the period or event types exposed by the exchange endpoint. Export older history manually, import it as a separate file and check for overlap so trades are not doubled.
Every transfer appears as a taxable sale
Check whether both wallets are identified as yours and whether timestamps or network fees prevent automatic matching. Link the withdrawal and deposit manually, retaining the fee as a separate event when appropriate.

Balances match but gains are implausible
Inspect cost basis, not just quantities. Missing purchases, duplicated deposits and an incorrect fiat conversion can leave the ending balance correct while inflating gains. Trace several large disposals back to their acquisition lots.
Korean characters or dates import incorrectly
Open the original CSV in a spreadsheet without changing its encoding, then compare the date format and decimal separators with the importer’s template. If a conversion is necessary, keep both the original and converted files and test a small sample before re-uploading.
Staking, lending or airdrop entries are treated as ordinary trades
Use the product’s transaction-type editor or notes to preserve the source event, then ask a Korean adviser how it should be classified under the applicable period. Do not force an income event into a trade category merely to clear an error count.
A wallet import shows contracts you do not recognize
Review the transaction hash, token contract and destination before labeling it. Unknown contracts can be spam tokens, approvals or a protocol interaction. Preserve the raw on-chain record and do not assign a value without evidence.

Professional review is especially valuable when you have more than one exchange, moved assets between personal wallets, received staking or lending distributions, used decentralized applications, or cannot establish an acquisition cost. An accountant can also determine how the separate-other-income rule applies to your facts and whether a general gains report is sufficient for the filing year.
Give the professional an editable transaction export as well as a human-readable PDF. Explain your residence, the accounts you control, the period covered and any transactions you intentionally excluded. Ask them to approve the cost-basis method and the treatment of unmatched deposits before you submit anything.
How to prepare for Korea’s 2027 crypto tax
- Start historical collection now: exchanges may limit downloadable history, and old API records can disappear after an account closes.
- Reconcile annually: do not wait until 2027 to discover that a 2023 wallet transfer has no matching deposit.
- Maintain an address register: note which wallet addresses belong to you and when control changed.
- Preserve evidence: retain CSVs, statements, transaction hashes, fee records and notes explaining manual classifications.
- Review the current NTS guidance: the stated 2027-01-01 date and reporting obligations should be checked against any later legislative or administrative updates.
- Obtain professional confirmation: have a Korean tax adviser review the final report and unresolved items before the first filing under the amended rules.
Decision guide by portfolio type
Mostly Bithumb, limited wallet activity
Begin with CoinTracking’s Bithumb CSV workflow. Add a second tool only if its reports or transfer matching address a problem you can demonstrate in your own file.
Several exchanges and wallets
Test Koinly first because its documented South Korea support, API/CSV imports and multiple report types align with a broad reconciliation job. Compare the resulting unmatched-transaction list with a CSV import in another product if the first pass leaves material gaps.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesExchange plus substantial on-chain activity
Test CoinTracker’s public-address, xPub or WalletConnect options alongside exchange CSV/API imports. Spend time labeling self-transfers and protocol interactions; ingestion flexibility does not remove the need for manual classification.
Need a Korean filing form rather than a general report
None of the available documentation establishes a universal Korean form. Ask the software provider and your tax professional for confirmation in writing before purchasing on that assumption.
Purchase and support checklist
- Is your exact exchange listed today, and does the connector cover deposits, withdrawals, fees and rewards?
- Can you import a full historical CSV if the API omits older data?
- What transaction limit applies to your account, and does it reset annually or remain a lifetime allowance?
- Can you export itemized transactions, gains, balances and the assumptions used?
- Can support explain a sample unmatched transfer before you upgrade?
- Will a Korean tax professional be able to open the report without proprietary software?
- Can you retain all source files and reports if you cancel?
Because prices, limits and integrations change, check these items on the current purchase and support pages immediately before committing. A lower subscription cost is not a saving if missing transactions require hours of manual reconstruction.
