M4 iPad Pro: buy only when the gap to M5 is meaningful
The original deal list featured an 11-inch M4 iPad Pro with 256GB of storage and Wi-Fi for $849, plus a refurbished 13-inch 256GB Wi-Fi + Cellular model for $1,099. Those offers are historical. The refurbished label is important: the latter was not equivalent to a new Apple-sold iPad.
Current comparison coverage has placed an 11-inch M5 iPad Pro with 256GB around $1,139 and a 13-inch 256GB model around $1,424. These are dynamic retailer signals, but they show why an M4 iPad Pro must now be discounted substantially to be compelling.
When the M4 is the better financial choice
- Choose the M4 when an equivalent model is several hundred dollars cheaper than the M5.
- Compare like with like: 11-inch against 11-inch, 13-inch against 13-inch, Wi-Fi against Wi-Fi, and the same storage tier.
- An older M4 Pro can still offer better display and premium hardware than a newer iPad Air, provided the discount is large enough.
- For a 1TB or 2TB model, the newer generation may be preferable if the price difference is relatively small.
Check whether the listing has standard glass or nano-texture glass, and whether it is new, Apple-certified refurbished, retailer-refurbished or renewed. Also confirm AppleCare eligibility, remaining warranty, battery condition and the return window. “Renewed” does not automatically mean Apple-certified refurbished.

Storage matters because internal storage generally cannot be upgraded later. A 256GB iPad is reasonable for web use, office work and cloud-first workflows; 512GB is safer for large photo libraries, games and creative applications. Cellular models cost more and may also require a separate carrier plan.

AirTag deals: calculate the per-tracker cost
The old roundup cited $23 for one AirTag and $70 for a four-pack, or $17.50 per tracker. In 2026, coverage has referred to newer “AirTag 2” inventory, including a July example of $27 for one and $89 for four. A later tracker signal showed a four-pack near $64. Because listings can mix generations, do not compare those figures without checking the product name and model.
For four trackers, the pack is usually the better value. At $64, the effective price is $16 per tracker; at $89, it is $22.25. A single tag makes more sense if you need only one or if buying four would leave unused hardware.
Before checkout:
- Confirm whether the listing is the current generation or older inventory.
- Check that the item is new and sealed if warranty certainty matters.
- Verify the seller and fulfillment method, especially on marketplace listings.
- Confirm the included battery and compatible replacement-battery type.
- Remember that AirTag privacy protections help prevent unwanted tracking; an AirTag is not a substitute for consent or a personal-safety device.

M4 MacBook Pro: compare the whole specification, not just the chip name
The historical deal featured a 16-inch M4 Pro MacBook Pro with 24GB of memory and a 512GB SSD for $2,239, compared with a cited $2,499 list price. That price is no longer enough on its own to establish a good deal. Current coverage has listed M5 examples around $1,886.31 for a 14-inch 1TB model, $2,374 for a 14-inch M5 Pro 1TB model and $2,818.34 for a 16-inch M5 Pro 1TB model.
M4 Pro can still be attractive if a retailer is clearing a high-spec 14-inch or 16-inch model. Base M4 models need a sharper discount because they compete directly with newer M5 systems. For professional work, compare memory capacity, GPU cores and storage before comparing chip labels. A cheaper computer that forces you to buy external storage or cannot handle your workload is not necessarily the lower-cost choice.
MacBook Pro buying checklist
- Size: The 16-inch model costs more but provides a larger workspace and battery capacity; the 14-inch model is easier to carry.
- Memory: Developers, video editors, 3D users and other professionals should not downgrade memory merely to obtain a sale price.
- Storage: 512GB may be workable with external storage, while 1TB is more comfortable for large applications and media libraries.
- Ports and displays: Confirm the required external-monitor support and port selection.
- Used or renewed units: Request the battery cycle count, warranty terms, cosmetic grade and included accessories.
In September 2026, call an M4 MacBook Pro a previous-generation model. Compare the final M4 price with the relevant Apple MacBook Pro configuration, not merely an old MSRP.
M4 iMac: probably the strongest older-generation value
The M4 iMac remains one of the more credible reasons to buy an older Apple generation. Recent tracking showed prices from about $1,122.33 against a cited $1,499 list price, although the exact configuration and seller must be verified.

Historical configurations included an 8-core GPU model with 16GB of memory and 256GB of storage for $1,149, a 10-core/256GB model around $1,350, and a 10-core/512GB model around $1,499. Nano-texture glass cost more. Some promotions also required an on-page coupon.
Which iMac configuration makes sense?
- 256GB: Suitable for light office work, browsing, streaming and cloud-first users, but restrictive for large creative libraries.
- 512GB: Safer for photography, development tools, games and creative applications.
- 8-core versus 10-core GPU: The 10-core version is more suitable for sustained graphics work, but the base model may be better value for ordinary household and office use.
- Standard versus nano-texture glass: Treat the higher-priced finish as a specific display preference, not an automatic upgrade worth paying for.
- Included accessories: Confirm the keyboard and mouse configuration, color and port count. A cheaper listing may be a different color or accessory bundle.
The iMac’s value comes from its integrated display, speakers, webcam, keyboard and mouse. A Mac mini can be cheaper for someone who already owns those peripherals, but calculate the complete setup cost—including monitor, webcam, speakers, keyboard and mouse—before comparing. “More” should not mean buying accessories simply because they are discounted. These categories are relevant when they solve a specific need:
- M4 iPad Air: A 13-inch 512GB example was reported around $1,049. It may be the better choice when the iPad Pro display and highest-end features are unnecessary.
- MacBook Air: An M4 MacBook Air example was reported around $849.99 versus $999. It is generally the lower-cost option for office, school and everyday work, while the Pro is justified by sustained workloads, ports, display quality or additional performance.
- Apple Pencil Pro: Consider it only if you are buying a compatible iPad and will use handwriting, drawing or advanced stylus features.
- AirPods and Apple Watch: Compare the exact generation and health or audio features. A small discount on an older model may not beat a newer model with a longer support life.
- Chargers, MagSafe accessories and USB-C hubs: Check whether a charger is already included and compare power output, safety certification, port count and warranty—not just the headline discount.
Apple’s Certified Refurbished Store can be preferable to an unknown refurbisher because support and warranty terms are clearer, although configuration inventory is limited. Amazon and Best Buy can offer lower cash prices, but check whether the listing is sold and fulfilled by the retailer, a marketplace seller or a membership-only program.

How to verify an Apple deal before paying
- Record the exact model, chip, screen size, memory, storage and color.
- Confirm Wi-Fi versus Wi-Fi + Cellular for iPads.
- Identify whether the item is new, open-box, refurbished or renewed.
- Check the seller, fulfillment method and warranty provider.
- Apply any coupon and determine whether membership is required.
- Compare with Apple’s current U.S. price, not only an outdated MSRP.
- Compare the equivalent M5 model where one exists.
- Check the return period, restocking terms and AppleCare eligibility.
- Include sales tax, delivery charges, membership fees and any required carrier plan.
- Save the final checkout price and configuration because stock and pricing can change quickly.
Membership pricing is worthwhile only when the savings exceed the membership cost and you would use the membership anyway. The same rule applies to Prime or paid delivery programs.
When to buy and when to wait
Buy now: An M4 iMac or M4 iPad Pro is at least a few hundred dollars below a comparable M5 model, the storage is sufficient, and the seller offers dependable warranty and returns. An AirTag four-pack is also reasonable when its per-unit price is materially below the single-pack price.
Wait or choose M5: The price gap is modest, you need maximum support life, or you are buying a premium 1TB/2TB iPad Pro or a professional MacBook Pro. Do not trade away necessary memory or storage for a superficially attractive discount.
