That distinction matters in a personal-finance comparison. A $175 Apple Gift Card is not the same as $175 off the MacBook being purchased. It is a conditional rebate: it has face value for a buyer who will definitely spend that amount with Apple later, but it is not equivalent to cash for someone who would not otherwise buy Apple hardware, accessories, apps, subscriptions, or services.

Apple’s gift cards could be used under Apple’s U.S. gift-card terms toward eligible Apple products and accessories, as well as apps, subscriptions and services such as Apple Music, Apple TV, and iCloud+. Apple’s 2025 gift-card tiers

The tiers and exclusions were reported in Apple’s 2025 Black Friday announcement coverage. Apple excluded several of its newest products from its own promotion, including the M5 MacBook Pro, M5 iPad Pro, iPhone 17 family, iPhone Air, and Apple Watch Ultra 3. Retailers nevertheless offered direct discounts on some of those newer models.

Contemporary coverage also reported that refurbished products and education-priced purchases were not eligible for the 2025 event. That was a condition of this promotion; it should not be treated as a permanent rule covering every future Apple sale.

When Apple was—and was not—the better choice

Consider the 13-inch M4 MacBook Air. Apple offered a $175 gift card with the qualifying $999 configuration, while Amazon listed the same base configuration at $749. Even if a buyer would eventually use the full Apple card, Apple’s effective cost would be $824 after assigning the card its full face value—still $75 more than the $749 retailer price.

The same pattern applied to the 11-inch M3 iPad Air: Apple offered a $100 gift card, while Amazon listed it at $449, or $150 below the $599 reference price. The retailer saved $50 more immediately and did not require a future Apple purchase to realize the discount.

AirPods Pro 3 was a closer case. Apple offered a $50 gift card on a product priced at $249, while a retailer listing was approximately $220—about $29 off. A buyer certain to spend at least $50 at Apple could view Apple’s offer as $79 of total value, but that value arrived later and was restricted to eligible Apple spending. A buyer seeking the lowest immediate out-of-pocket price preferred the approximately $220 retailer deal.

AirPods 4 for $69: the best overall AirPods bargain

The standard AirPods 4 at $69 was the clearest value winner. It cut roughly 46% from a $129 reference price, which was a considerably larger percentage reduction than the AirPods Pro 3 offer. It was also a genuine direct price reduction rather than Apple’s $25 future-purchase gift card.

Do not confuse this listing with the AirPods 4 with ANC. The standard model was the cheaper product; buyers who specifically wanted active noise cancellation needed to confirm that the listing said ANC.

AirPods 4 with ANC for about $99.99: the middle ground

AirPods 4 with ANC was recorded at approximately $99.99 against a $179 reference price. That made it the practical choice for someone who wanted noise cancellation but did not need the full AirPods Pro feature set or want to spend roughly $220. The precise discount language varied across deal listings, so the actual model and seller mattered.

AirPods Pro 3 for $219.99: the newest in-ear option

AirPods Pro 3 was a genuinely new September 2025 product, not old stock being cleared. Apple said the model added a revised fit, foam-infused ear tips, heart-rate sensing during workouts, IP57 resistance, and up to eight hours of music playback with ANC. AirPods Max with USB-C for about $399

The USB-C AirPods Max fell to approximately $399–$399.99 from a $549 reference price, the best recorded Apple over-ear price in the 2025 roundup. The $150 reduction was meaningful, but a lower price did not automatically make the Max the best headphone value. iPad with A16 for $274–$275: the budget pick

Apple officially called this model the iPad with A16. Deal pages sometimes called it the 11th-generation iPad, but that retail shorthand should not obscure the exact product. It was also reported as selling out or fluctuating, so “recorded at” is more accurate than saying it was available everywhere throughout the weekend.

11-inch M3 iPad Air for $449: the best all-around iPad

The 11-inch M3 iPad Air at $449 was the strongest balance of price, performance, and useful lifespan. It was $150 below the $599 reference price and sat comfortably between the entry iPad and the iPad Pro. The M3 iPad Air itself was introduced in March 2025, so this was not a heavily outdated model being sold only because it was old.

Series 11 for $329–$339: the mainstream choice

The 42mm GPS Series 11 was recorded at $339 in a November 29 MacRumors snapshot and at $329 in later Macworld coverage. The 42mm GPS listing therefore needs a date and retailer beside it rather than one undated “best price.” The reference price was $399, making the reduction approximately $60–$70.

The larger chassis did not turn the Air into a MacBook Pro. Buyers doing long renders, heavy software builds, advanced 3D work, or other sustained workloads should compare cooling, core counts, memory, and storage rather than choosing by screen size alone.
