But the cheapest advertised price is not always the cheapest deal: carrier discounts may require a new line, while an unlocked phone with weak U.S. band support can create headaches later.
For a new, unlocked U.S. phone at manufacturer pricing, the Motorola Moto G Power (2025) is the safest all-around purchase. The CMF Phone 2 Pro has the strongest hardware for the money, but its U.S. Beta Program distribution makes it a risky choice for some carriers. Buyers focused on long-term value should look at the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G or Galaxy A26 5G.

1. CMF Phone 2 Pro: best specifications for $279
The CMF Phone 2 Pro offers the most ambitious hardware package on this list. Its $279 U.S. version includes 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, along with a microSD slot for additional capacity.

- 5,000mAh battery
- 50MP main camera, 50MP telephoto camera and 8MP ultrawide camera
- Three years of Android updates and six years of security updates
The telephoto camera and AMOLED display are unusual at this price. The processor also gives the CMF Phone 2 Pro more headroom than the entry-level chips used in several competing phones.
The U.S. carrier warning matters
In the United States, the CMF Phone 2 Pro is sold through Nothing’s US Beta Program, rather than through ordinary carrier and retail channels. Nothing says compatibility is not guaranteed.
- AT&T: 3G, 4G and 5G work, but not every 5G band is supported; VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling do not work.
- T-Mobile: 3G, 4G and 5G work, but some 5G bands are missing.
- Verizon: CDMA is unsupported, and the IMEI must be added to Verizon’s database before use.
Best for: Someone who wants maximum hardware value and has confirmed that the phone’s network limitations are acceptable.
Skip it if: You need guaranteed carrier activation, Wi-Fi calling, VoLTE or a conventional retail warranty experience.

The $299.99 Moto G Power is the easiest recommendation for shoppers who value durability and everyday convenience more than benchmark performance. It has a 6.8-inch Full HD+ LCD screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
- MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor
- 5,000mAh battery
- 30W wired charging
- 15W wireless charging
- microSD support up to 1TB
- IP68 water and dust resistance
Wireless charging and IP68 protection are particularly valuable at this price. They can reduce the cost of replacing a damaged phone or buying extra charging accessories, although water resistance is not a guarantee against every type of liquid damage.
The compromises are a conventional LCD rather than an OLED panel, entry-level performance and only two Android OS upgrades with three years of security updates. The cameras are suitable for ordinary daylight photos but are not a match for more expensive Pixel or Galaxy models.

- Compatibility: Compatible with T-Mobile, Metro, Boost, Mint, Ultra, Ting, and Consumer Cellular. If your carrier is not listed, please confirm compatibility with your preferred carrier. This device is 4G/LTE only and does not support band 71 or 5G. This device is not compatible with networks like AT&T, Cricket, Verizon, or Tracfone and does not include a SIM card.
- All of the Essentials: The Unnecto Bolt One has a 5" screen, 5MP main camera and 2MP front facing camera.
- Connect Everywhere: Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi, GPS, and USB Type C ensure that you can connect however you need.
- Software: Android 14 Go runs in parallel with the 2GB of RAM and 1.3 GHz Quad core processor.
- Customizable Storage: with 32GB of internal storage and an additional 512GB of expandable storage with a microSD card, the Bolt One offers the flexibility to expand your device's capacity, providing additional space for photos, videos, and files.
Best for: Buyers who want a new unlocked phone with broad U.S. compatibility, expandable storage, durability and wireless charging.
3. Samsung Galaxy A16 5G: best value for long-term software support
The Galaxy A16 5G costs $199.99 and is the standout choice if keeping a phone for several years matters more than speed. Samsung promises six generations of One UI and Android OS upgrades plus six years of security updates for the U.S. model.
- 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display
- 90Hz refresh rate
- Exynos 1330 processor
- 5,000mAh battery
- 5G connectivity and microSD expansion
That support policy changes the value calculation. A phone that costs $200 but remains eligible for security updates for six years may be a better financial decision than a slightly faster phone that needs replacing sooner.
The A16 5G is not a performance leader. App launches and multitasking can feel slower than on the CMF Phone 2 Pro or Galaxy A26 5G. It also lacks wireless charging and uses 25W wired charging. Its cameras are functional rather than exceptional.
Best for: People who want Samsung’s software, dependable U.S. carrier support and a long update window at the lowest price.
4. Motorola Moto G (2025): best for basic use under $200
At $199.99 with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, the Moto G (2025) covers the essentials: calls, messaging, maps, streaming, web browsing and light social-media use.
- 6.7-inch 120Hz LCD display
- 5,000mAh battery
- 50MP main camera
- 5G connectivity
- microSD card slot
The 120Hz screen makes scrolling look smoother, but it does not make every app run at 120 frames per second. The phone may also stutter more often when several apps are open because of its modest processor and 4GB of RAM.

Spend more on the Moto G Power if you want IP68 protection, wireless charging or more comfortable multitasking. The Galaxy A16 5G is a better long-term purchase if software support is the priority.
Best for: A cost-conscious buyer who needs a straightforward 5G phone and does not plan to run demanding games or heavy workloads.

5. Samsung Galaxy A26 5G: best Samsung phone at the $300 ceiling
The unlocked 128GB Galaxy A26 5G costs $299.99. It improves on the A16 with a faster Exynos 1380 processor, an AMOLED display, IP67 water and dust resistance and the same broad six-year support commitment.
It launched with Android 15 and One UI 7. The phone is a sensible choice for someone who wants Samsung’s interface but finds the A16 too slow. It is also better suited to long-term ownership than many budget phones because its update schedule extends well beyond the typical two- or three-year budget-phone cycle.
The main question is whether to choose it over the CMF Phone 2 Pro. The CMF has more storage and a telephoto camera for less money, but the Galaxy A26 5G offers a more conventional U.S. purchase, stronger water resistance and clearer carrier support.
Best for: Buyers who want Samsung software, an AMOLED screen, better performance than the A16 and IP67 protection.

- Confirm the purchase type. Check whether the quoted price is unlocked MSRP, a retailer sale or a carrier promotion. A $199 phone that requires a new line or trade-in is not equivalent to a $199 unlocked phone.
- Check your carrier before ordering. Verify the exact model and IMEI, especially for the CMF Phone 2 Pro. Compatibility can affect calling, 5G access and Wi-Fi calling.
- Prioritize support if you keep phones for years. Samsung’s six-year policy makes the A16 5G and A26 5G unusually strong value choices.
- Buy storage for your habits. The CMF Phone 2 Pro starts with 256GB. The other listed phones offer 128GB but support microSD cards, which can store photos and media without paying for a more expensive model.
- Budget for the full ownership cost. Include a case, screen protector, charger if one is not included, sales tax and any activation fee. A phone advertised at $299.99 can exceed a $300 spending limit at checkout.

Motorola Moto G Stylus 5G (2025)
Its normal U.S. launch price was about $399.99. A $199 or $299 listing may require a new line, prepaid activation, financing, trade-in or a limited promotion. It should not be treated as a standard unlocked sub-$300 phone without checking the conditions.

The Nord N30 SE is a regional product and should not be confused with the U.S. OnePlus Nord N30 5G. Bands, warranty coverage and availability vary by market. Confirm the exact model and country before buying.

A used Pixel or Galaxy S phone can outperform a new budget model, but it belongs in a separate comparison. Check battery health, carrier-lock status, water resistance, warranty coverage and the remaining security-update period.
FAQ
What is the best Android phone under $300 in 2025?
The Motorola Moto G Power (2025) is the safest overall choice for most U.S. buyers because it combines broad carrier availability, IP68 protection, wireless charging, a 5,000mAh battery and microSD support. The CMF Phone 2 Pro has better hardware, but its U.S. Beta Program distribution and carrier limitations make it less suitable for everyone.
Which Android phone under $300 will receive updates the longest?
The Samsung Galaxy A16 5G and Galaxy A26 5G receive six generations of Android and One UI upgrades plus six years of security updates. That is significantly longer than the Moto G Power’s two Android upgrades and three years of security updates.
Is the CMF Phone 2 Pro fully compatible with U.S. carriers?
Not necessarily. Nothing says the U.S. model, sold through its Beta Program, does not have guaranteed carrier compatibility. AT&T and T-Mobile support is incomplete, while Verizon requires IMEI approval and does not support CDMA. Check compatibility before purchasing.
Are phones advertised at $199 or $299 really unlocked?
Not always. Carrier prices may require a new line, activation, financing, a prepaid plan or a trade-in. Check the product page for the words “unlocked” and confirm that the price is not conditional before comparing it with unlocked MSRP.
The Bottom Line
For most U.S. shoppers, buy the Motorola Moto G Power (2025) if you want the most practical mix of durability, charging options and carrier compatibility. Choose the CMF Phone 2 Pro for the best specifications only after confirming network support. The Galaxy A16 5G is the strongest low-cost option for long software support, while the Galaxy A26 5G is the better Samsung choice when the full $300 budget is available.
