What Rerun does

Rerun provides recurring, subscription and membership billing for businesses, schools and organizations collecting from customers, clients, donors or students.

Payment streams can define billing dates, frequency, amounts, discounts, surcharges, up to two tax codes, custom start dates and prorated first payments. Recurring card and ACH payments are supported, as are recurring invoices.

A hosted My Account area lets customers update contact or payment details, review payment and email history, and settle open invoices.

Fees and plans

The 30-day trial is free. It includes sample data, needs no credit card and does not permit live transactions.

The pay-as-you-go option has unlimited transactions and no monthly fee. Charges are 2.95% + 30¢ for each Visa, Mastercard or Discover transaction, 2.99% + 30¢ for each American Express transaction, and $1.49 per ACH transaction.

The American Express and card entries are shown as per-transaction prices, while ACH is listed as a one-time charge per payment.

Where it runs

Rerun runs in a browser. Listed browser support includes Chrome 31+, Firefox 26+, Safari 6.1+ and Internet Explorer 8+, on Mac OS X 10.6.8+ or Windows XP through Windows 10.

Rerun says it has no public API; HTML buttons for its hosted checkout are the deeper website integration option. It is not offered for customer self-hosting.

Protection, as Rerun publishes it

Rerun says it does not store payment-method information. It says tokenization runs through Forte’s PCI DSS compliant environment, and that CSG Forte processes payments on the back end.

Rerun says users receive processor credentials for their account. The supplied material does not state a licence, regulator, deposit protection, two-factor sign-in or dispute-handling process.

Strengths

Automated emails for upcoming, successful or unsuccessful payments can accompany recurring card, ACH and invoice billing.

Its hosted checkout handles recurring payments, one-time payments or donations, and can expose selected fields, branding and social links. Customer accounts provide self-service payment and contact updates.

Reports cover payments, streams, customers, items, salespeople, groups, projections and invoices, with filters, date ranges, configurable columns and Excel export. QuickBooks Online and Xero syncs, plus Slack notifications, are available.

Catches and limits

Rerun is for US use only, and transactions are processed in US dollars. It does not offer multi-currency billing or usage-based billing.

The trial cannot process real transactions. Rerun integrates with QuickBooks Online only, not QuickBooks for Mac or Windows, and it has no public API.

The software is proprietary. Its licence restricts copying, redistribution, reverse engineering and derivative works. Self-hosting is not provided because use is limited to a server controlled by Rerun.

Who should skip Rerun

Rerun does not fit organizations needing non-US billing, currencies beyond USD, a public API or self-hosted deployment.

Verdict

Rerun suits a US-based organization that wants browser-based recurring collections, invoices, hosted checkout and a customer portal without a monthly subscription charge. Its pay-as-you-go model has no fixed monthly price, while card and ACH charges apply to each payment.

It is a poor match for international or multi-currency operations, businesses requiring QuickBooks desktop support, or developers looking for a public API or self-hosting. The trial is useful for reviewing setup with sample records, but it cannot demonstrate live payment processing.

Who it suits

Pick it if

  • US organizations collecting recurring payments
  • Teams needing invoices, checkout and customer self-service
  • Businesses that prefer browser-based billing

Skip it if

  • You need multi-currency or non-US processing
  • You require a public API or self-hosted deployment
  • You use QuickBooks for Mac or Windows
