What Dojo does

Merchants can use Dojo card machines alongside online, telephone and face-to-face payment services. Payment links, a virtual terminal and online checkout handle remote or website payments, while terminals support counter and tableside transactions.

Its Sidekick and business app manage payments, refunds, reconciliation, transfers, alerts and business insights, including across locations. Dojo serves organisations from cafes and other small firms to growing enterprises in hospitality, leisure and service sectors.

Fees and plans

Tap to Pay on an iPhone is free, has no contract and needs no separate device. For annual card turnover under £100,000, Dojo lists an all-in card rate of 1.20% per contact.

The Plus plan is priced at £11.99 per month for each location. The page shows £25 struck through and says the £11.99 offer is for new customers and new locations from 24 August 2026. Plus contains Essential features along with customer-spend tracking, competitor benchmarking, weekly reports and remote refunds. Essential is billed monthly per location, but no amount is shown.

Monthly hardware billing is £15 for Dojo Wired, £20 for Dojo Pocket and £25 for Dojo Go Max. Upfront prices are £179 for Wired, £239 for Pocket and £149 for Go Max; the Go Max entry also shows £229 and marks £149 as a launch offer.

Dojo says joining involves no fixed contract, and eligible businesses may select either a 12-month fixed arrangement or a 30-day rolling one. A free trial is offered, but its length is not published.

Where it runs

Dojo offers Android and iPhone apps, web tools and APIs. Existing websites can connect to its online checkout via plugins or the API, while the virtual terminal takes remote or telephone payments without the cardholder present.

Through the business app, users can view live transactions, transfer alerts, filters and exports, manage account settings and follow PCI-compliance steps. The Dojo app lets an iPhone accept contactless payments through Tap to Pay, without another device.

Portable and mobile terminals connect over Wi-Fi; mobile units can fall back to 4G. Go Max includes Wi-Fi, 4G and a 10-hour battery. Countertop machines handle chip-and-PIN, contactless and Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay.

Developer materials cover REST APIs, webhooks and SDKs for iOS, Android, .NET, PHP and React Native. Dojo says new Connect API integrations are unsupported and recommends its newer Dojo API.

Protection and rules Dojo publishes

Dojo says Paymentsense Limited, its trading name, is authorized and regulated by the UK Financial Conduct Authority. That is the company’s statement.

According to the company, its environments for processing, storing and transmitting card data meet PCI DSS and undergo yearly assessment by an independent Qualified Security Assessor. It says payment transmissions use TLS, while its card machines use point-to-point encryption and instant fraud detection.

Dojo says customers can reach a UK-based person within minutes. Its about page says the UK team can remotely access a device to help.

Strengths

Dojo combines in-person, online, telephone, mobile and tableside acceptance with payment links and a virtual terminal. Its EPOS connections support Pay at Counter and Pay at Table, including bill splitting and tips.

The company says it works with more than 450 EPOS providers and syncs card-machine and EPOS transactions for reconciliation. It also advertises 99.99% uptime and seven-day technical support from 8am to 11pm.

Catches to check

The 1.20% rate is available only where annual card turnover stays below £100,000. Quotes for custom plans vary with volume, card mix and locations, while Essential has no published amount. Hardware costs differ by device and by monthly or upfront payment.

The Go Max upfront price is a launch offer, with £229 also shown.

Trustpilot's review summary mentions complaints about charges exceeding expectations, payment-link fees, unclear billing and trouble obtaining help for serious hardware faults.

Who may want another option

Dojo may not suit a business seeking a published price for every plan, an explicitly stated country or currency scope, or another payment-link provider.

Verdict

Dojo suits merchants wanting one provider for card machines, website and phone payments, EPOS links and day-to-day reconciliation. The free iPhone option removes hardware for contactless acceptance, while monthly and upfront devices cover different setups.

The main unknowns are plan pricing outside the listed rate, the details behind custom quotes, and the countries and currencies available. Businesses with multi-site needs can ask about the custom plan; those needing a fully itemized public price list may prefer to compare other payment-link services.

Who it suits

Pick it if

  • Businesses combining card machines with online and phone payments
  • Businesses needing EPOS reconciliation across locations
  • iPhone users taking contactless payments without extra hardware

Skip it if

  • You need every plan, country and currency published before requesting a quote
  • You want to avoid hardware or payment-link fees that are not clear upfront
  • You need a provider other than a UK FCA-authorized business
