What Atome does
Atome lets shoppers split purchases at participating online and offline retailers. At checkout, customers select Atome online or scan a merchant QR code in a store.
Its standard Pay-in-3 option takes the first payment at purchase and the next two payments monthly. The app also shows payment schedules and offers Atome+ points for spending.
Fees and plans
Pay-in-3 is free: three payments, no processing fee, and interest-free. Pay in full is also free with one payment and no processing fee.
Pay-in-6 has a one-time fee equal to 3% of the purchase value, shown as S$3 one-time, and applies at selected stores. The first payment is due one day after purchase, with the rest every 30 days.
Pay-in-9 and Pay-in-12 are for selected users. Each lists a monthly processing fee equal to 0.75% of the total purchase value, shown as S$0.75 a month, over nine or 12 payments.
If automatic billing fails on the due date, Atome says the account is suspended and an S$15 or S$30 administration fee applies per late payment, based on the order amount. There is no free trial.
Where it runs
Atome provides Android and iOS apps, a web service and APIs for merchants. The iOS listing supports iPhone and iPad, is free, occupies 194.2 MB and is not verified for macOS.
The mobile app supports account setup, purchases in three payments and payment-schedule tracking. In-store use requires a participating merchant's Atome QR code. Merchant tools include online API connections and Atome Cashier for point-of-sale transactions.
Protection and rules, as Atome publishes them
Atome says it is licensed as a Major Payment Institution under Singapore's Payment Services Act 2019. Its Singapore site identifies Apaylater Financials Pte. Ltd., registration number 201936265H, licence PS20200511, and says it complies with BNPL Standards.
Atome says customer funds are held in trust accounts at Singapore licensed banks and kept separate from Atome's own funds. It also notes that commingling can create shared shortfall risk.
Support hours listed by Atome are Monday to Friday, 09:30–18:30, excluding weekends and public holidays.
Strengths
The free Pay-in-3 plan spreads a purchase across three interest-free payments, online or in stores. Pay-in-full is also listed without a processing fee.
The service supports both online checkout and QR-code payments at participating physical retailers. Atome+ awards one point for every S$2 spent, with points redeemable for rewards or in-app prize games.
Atome publishes merchant APIs, point-of-sale documentation and integrations for several commerce platforms.
Catches to check
Longer repayment options can add processing fees, and Pay-in-6 is limited to selected stores while Pay-in-9 and Pay-in-12 are limited to selected users. The longer-plan price is not always listed in advance.
A failed automatic deduction can suspend the account and trigger an S$15 or S$30 fee. Atome's stated consumer regions are Singapore and Malaysia, so availability depends on location and merchant participation.
App review summaries report payment declines, difficulty reaching human support and unclear remaining-credit displays. These are user reports, not Atome's stated terms.
Who may want another option
Atome may not fit shoppers outside Singapore or Malaysia, people who need a clearly priced longer plan before checkout, or anyone unwilling to risk late-payment administration fees.
Verdict
Atome suits shoppers who want a three-payment schedule with no processing fee and who shop with participating retailers in its stated regions. Its app combines checkout, payment tracking and rewards, while merchants can connect through APIs and point-of-sale tools.
The trade-offs are material for longer schedules: fees vary by plan, store and user, and late automatic-payment failures carry administration charges. Atome's published safeguarding and licence statements provide its own account of the legal framework, but reported support and transaction problems may matter to shoppers who need dependable issue resolution.
Who it suits
Pick it if
- Shoppers in Singapore or Malaysia using participating retailers
- People seeking three interest-free payments
- Merchants needing online API or POS checkout
Skip it if
- You need a fixed longer-plan price before checkout
- You live outside Atome's stated consumer regions
- Late-payment fees or account suspension are unacceptable
