The Amex–Airbnb partnership launched on October 22, 2026, but the advertised $850 is not an automatic rebate. Eligible U.S. Consumer and Business Platinum Card Members can receive up to $600 per calendar year in lodging statement credits on qualifying prepaid Airbnb Luxe stays, then unlock up to $250 in Airbnb Experiences credits after a confirmed qualifying Luxe reservation. Each credit has a separate trigger, cap and deadline.

Receiving the full $850 requires an eligible Platinum account, qualifying Luxe inventory, unused credit capacity in the relevant period and enough eligible Experiences spending. The two amounts do not function as one combined balance.
Who qualifies, and what kind of Airbnb booking counts?
All U.S. American Express Card Members can search and book available Airbnb properties through Amex Travel, but the statement-credit benefits are limited to eligible U.S. Consumer and Business Platinum Card accounts.

Requirements for the $600 Lodging Credit
- The reservation must be an Airbnb Luxe property.
- It must be prepaid and booked through AmexTravel.com or the Amex Travel App.
- The stay must be at least two nights.
- The Card Member must stay at the booked property.
- The Airbnb account must be linked to the matching-name American Express online account before the reservation is completed.
A regular Airbnb home, a direct Airbnb reservation or a booking made through another channel does not satisfy these requirements for the Lodging Credit.
Requirements for the $250 Experiences Credit
The Experiences benefit becomes available only after Airbnb confirms the qualifying Luxe reservation. A booking request that Airbnb declines or that expires does not unlock the benefit. Eligible Experiences must be purchased directly from Airbnb and charged to the same eligible Card Account during that calendar year. Purchases that send you to a third-party platform, including some event-ticket transactions, are excluded.
How do the $850 credits add up?
The Lodging Credit is split into two semiannual periods rather than being available as a single $600 allowance. American Express describes the 2026 benefit as up to $300 from January through June and up to $300 from July through December. A cardholder who does not use the first period’s capacity cannot assume it carries into the second.

The Experiences Credit can add up to $250 after a confirmed Luxe booking, but it is conditional spending credit, not cash paid at booking. The maximum combined value is therefore arithmetic: $600 plus $250 equals $850. It is not a guaranteed return on every Luxe reservation.
How do I book Airbnb through Amex Travel?
- Open AmexTravel.com or the Amex Travel App and select the Homes tab.
- Search for the destination and dates, then identify an available Airbnb Luxe property.
- Link your Airbnb account to your American Express online account. The names on both accounts must match.
- Choose a prepaid reservation of at least two nights and complete payment with the eligible Platinum Card Account.
- Wait for Airbnb to confirm the reservation. Only a confirmed qualifying Luxe stay unlocks the Experiences benefit.
- Purchase eligible Experiences directly through Airbnb and charge them to the same Card Account before the applicable calendar year ends.
After the booking is made, Airbnb—not American Express—handles host messages, reservation changes, cancellations and reservation support.
How many Membership Rewards points does each card earn?

Direct Airbnb bookings generally do not earn the additional Membership Rewards bonus available for most cards through Amex Travel. Membership Rewards Pay with Points cannot currently pay for Airbnb bookings through Amex Travel; American Express says points may become redeemable later as a statement credit after the transaction posts.

What can go wrong with the credit?
Booking outside Amex Travel
A direct Airbnb checkout may be convenient, but it generally forfeits the additional points and does not qualify for the Luxe lodging statement credit.
Buying an ineligible Experience
If Airbnb redirects the transaction to another platform, the purchase is not eligible for the $250 benefit. Check that the charge is made directly by Airbnb before paying.
Canceling every qualifying Luxe stay
If all qualifying Luxe bookings are canceled, the Experiences benefit can become locked again, and credits already issued may be reversed. Review the reservation’s cancellation terms before relying on the $250 portion of the offer.

Choosing the wrong calendar year
The Experiences purchase must be recognized in the same calendar year as the confirmed Luxe booking. A charge initiated on December 31 but processed on January 1 can miss the prior year’s eligibility window.

Airbnb Luxe is now included in the Platinum Lodging Credit framework, but it is not interchangeable with every hotel program. The Hotel Collection and Airbnb Luxe already require two nights. Fine Hotels + Resorts bookings will also require two nights for the $600 Lodging Credit beginning January 1, 2027.
That means a short, one-night stay cannot be used to trigger the lodging credit in the categories covered by the two-night rule. The booking channel and prepaid requirement remain decisive for Airbnb Luxe.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use Membership Rewards points to pay for an Airbnb reservation through Amex Travel?
Not at present. American Express says Pay with Points is unavailable for these Airbnb bookings, although points may be redeemable later as a statement credit after the charge posts.
What happens if my Airbnb account name does not match my Amex account?
The account-linking requirement is not met, so the reservation may fail to qualify for the statement-credit benefits. Link the matching-name accounts before completing checkout rather than trying to correct the connection afterward.

American Express states that statement credits can take up to eight weeks to post. Keep the confirmation and final charge records until the credit appears or the issuer resolves the claim.
Can I use the Airbnb Experiences credit in the following year?
No. Eligible Experiences spending must be charged by December 31 of the same calendar year as the confirmed qualifying Luxe booking. A transaction processed after midnight on January 1 may fall outside that year’s benefit.
