Amazon’s Wondery deal and the later arrival of Brazilian Wondery podcasts were separate milestones. Amazon announced an agreement to acquire the podcast publisher in 2020; its February 2021 financial-results release still said the transaction was pending customary closing conditions. In Brazil, the listener-facing result came later: Wondery productions reached Amazon Music, with some released there first and at least one show offering a specific Amazon Music-exclusive episode. The entire Wondery catalog did not become permanently exclusive.
What Amazon announced about Wondery
Amazon announced an agreement to acquire Wondery, a podcast publisher and production studio, as part of its effort to grow podcasting through Amazon Music. Amazon said the combination could bring creators, hosts, and immersive audio experiences to more listeners globally. Its February 2021 financial-results release still described the acquisition as subject to customary closing conditions, so that release is evidence of a pending deal—not a closing announcement. Wondery was not a podcast-listening app. It made and published shows, including narrative, entertainment, business, and true-crime programming. Amazon Music was the listening service; Wondery was the production and publishing asset Amazon was bringing into its podcast strategy. That distinction matters because acquiring a studio does not, by itself, make every show exclusive to one app.

The acquisition announcement was not a Brazil-specific launch of exclusive podcasts. Amazon Brazil later described Wondery as Amazon’s podcast studio and highlighted locally produced programs. Their distribution arrangements varied by show: an Amazon-first release could later be heard elsewhere, while a particular episode could be exclusive to Amazon Music.

A Coach: first on Amazon Music, then available elsewhere
Presented by Brazilian journalist, writer, and screenwriter Chico Felitti, A Coach was produced by Wondery and Pachorra Felitti Áudios, Livros e Filmes. Its story follows Kat Torres and her rise through several public identities and careers. Amazon Brazil said the episodes arrived first on Amazon Music, while also describing the show as free and available through other audio-streaming services. That is an early-access or first-window arrangement, not proof of permanent platform exclusivity. Amazon’s listing described nine main episodes plus two extras. Amazon Brazil’s announcement is the source for those release details.
Caso Bizarro: a weekly exclusive episode
Created by Mabê Bonafé and produced by Wondery, Caso Bizarro draws on unusual stories from international reporting and listener submissions. In its May 2024 feature, Amazon Brazil said the show had more than 80 episodes and released two episodes a week, with one exclusive to Amazon Music. The exclusivity claim applies to that episode arrangement, not automatically to the whole show or Wondery catalog. Amazon also called it Amazon Music’s second-most-listened podcast in Brazil at the time; that is Amazon’s historical platform ranking, not an independently audited national chart or a current position. Histórias da Firma and the wider listening picture
Wondery productions formed part of a broader Amazon Music podcast offering in Brazil. Amazon Brazil’s June 2024 list of popular titles included Histórias da Firma, associated with Déia Freitas, as well as Flow Podcast and Os Sócios Podcast. Amazon described Histórias da Firma as its leading podcast at that time. Treat the list as a snapshot of Amazon Music’s own ranking in 2024, not a current chart or a measure of the entire Brazilian podcast market. Amazon Brazil’s list supplies that context.
What “exclusive” can mean for a podcast
Podcast exclusivity is not one uniform arrangement. Check the title and episode rather than assuming that a Wondery label means every installment is locked to Amazon Music.

“Amazon Original” is another label listeners may encounter, generally signaling programming produced or commissioned for Amazon; it does not alone establish a title’s current territory, length of exclusivity, or listening terms. Availability can differ by country and change over time.
What Prime did—and what the announcement did not establish for Brazil
In November 2022, Amazon announced that Prime members would receive ad-free access to a selection of leading podcasts, including the Wondery catalog and Amazon-exclusive shows, at no additional cost. The announcement discussed the United States and Canada. It therefore does not establish that Brazilian Prime members received identical catalog access or terms. Prime membership and Amazon Music are related but distinct products, and an announcement covering one market should not be treated as a Brazil-specific offer. Amazon’s 2022 announcement included titles such as Dr. Death, SmartLess, and Even the Rich as examples; it does not establish their present availability in Brazil.

How to check where a show is available
- Search for the podcast in Amazon Music using its exact title and, if needed, the creator’s name.
- Read the show and episode descriptions for terms such as “exclusive,” “first on Amazon Music,” or “ad-free.” They describe different arrangements.
- If an episode is not on Amazon Music, check other podcast services. An Amazon-first release may also appear elsewhere, as Amazon Brazil said was the case for A Coach.
- Confirm the country associated with the account and any membership conditions shown for that title. Availability and benefits can vary by territory and date.
Do not assume that a show listed in one country, or a benefit announced for another, will appear in the Brazilian catalog. A free podcast episode also does not establish that Amazon’s broader music catalog or every ad-free benefit is free.

What the deal changed for Brazilian listeners
Amazon brought a podcast publisher and production capability into its audio business, then showcased Brazilian Wondery programs on Amazon Music. The local examples show a mix of distribution models: one show launched first on Amazon Music and was also described as available elsewhere; another had a specifically identified exclusive weekly episode. That is a more precise account than saying the acquisition made all Wondery content exclusive in Brazil. For a listener deciding whether to use Amazon Music or Prime, the useful question is the availability and terms of the particular show—not the acquisition alone.
