The deal was real, but it is no longer active. Amazon’s standard 16GB Kindle Colorsoft fell to approximately $169.99 during Black Friday 2025, down from $249.99. That was an $80 saving, or about 32% off. The promotion was reported on November 29, 2025, and the $170 price should now be treated as a historical benchmark—not a current offer.
Kindle Colorsoft deal details
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Model | Kindle Colorsoft, 16GB |
| Historical sale price | Approximately $169.99 |

The calculation is straightforward: $249.99 minus $169.99 equals $80, and $80 divided by $249.99 is approximately 32%. Engadget reported the price as a record low at the time, but later promotions could match or beat it.

This was the 16GB Colorsoft, not the Signature Edition
The discounted device was the standard 16GB Kindle Colorsoft. It was not the 32GB Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition.
Amazon introduced the 16GB model at $249.99. The Signature Edition launched at $279.99 and added 32GB of storage, wireless charging and an auto-adjusting front light. The standard model has an adjustable warm light, but that is not the same as automatic brightness adjustment. See Amazon’s model details before comparing listings.

- Read in any light – Adjust the display from white to amber to read in bright sunlight or in the dark.

What Colorsoft does differently
Colorsoft is Amazon’s first Kindle with a color E Ink-style display. Amazon designed it for color book covers, illustrations, photos, comics, graphic novels, travel guides and cookbooks. It also supports color highlighting, pinch-to-zoom on images and Page Color on supported content, which can invert black text and white page backgrounds.
That makes color the product’s main reason to exist. It is not a small tablet: the display is intended for reading, not video, social media, animation or broad app support. Color E Ink is also not meant to look as bright or saturated as a phone or OLED tablet.
The 16GB model includes a 7-inch display, USB-C charging, waterproofing and an adjustable warm light. Amazon estimates up to eight weeks of battery life, but that is a manufacturer estimate rather than a guarantee. Brightness, wireless connectivity, page-turn frequency, audiobook use and reading habits affect actual runtime.

Is the Colorsoft worth $170?
Yes, if you specifically want a color reading display. At its original $249.99 price, the Colorsoft’s premium is difficult to justify for readers who mainly consume ordinary novels. At approximately $170, the discount substantially improved the value proposition by reducing the cost of Colorsoft’s main weakness: its price.
- Best fit: comic-book and graphic-novel readers, people who read illustrated nonfiction, cookbook and travel-guide readers, and Kindle owners who want color highlights and images.
- Maybe: readers with a mixed library who value distraction-free E Ink reading but occasionally need color.
- Skip it: text-only novel readers, shoppers seeking the cheapest Kindle, and anyone expecting tablet-quality color, apps, video or web browsing.
The key question is not whether 32% off sounds attractive. It is whether your library contains enough color content to justify paying more than you would for a monochrome Kindle.
How it compares with other Kindles
Standard Kindle
The standard Kindle is the better value for readers who mostly read novels and want the lowest-cost entry into Amazon’s e-reader ecosystem. Its black-and-white screen cannot display color images or color highlights, but those features have little value in text-only books.
Rank #3
- Our fastest Kindle Paperwhite ever – The next-generation 7“ Paperwhite display has a higher contrast ratio and 25% faster page turns.
- Ready for travel – The ultra-thin design has a larger glare-free screen so pages stay sharp no matter where you are.
- Escape into your books – Your Kindle doesn’t have social media, notifications, or other distracting apps.
- Battery life for your longest novel – A single charge via USB-C lasts up to 12 weeks.
- Read in any light – Adjust the display from white to amber to read in bright sunlight or in the dark.
Kindle Paperwhite
The Kindle Paperwhite is the stronger alternative for readers who want a premium monochrome reading experience and waterproofing without paying for color. It is especially sensible when most of your reading is long-form text. Engadget reported that the Paperwhite was also discounted during the same Black Friday promotion.

Colorsoft Signature Edition
The Signature Edition makes more sense for readers with large comic, graphic-novel, audiobook or image-heavy collections who can use 32GB of storage. Wireless charging and the auto-adjusting front light are useful conveniences, but they are hard to justify for someone who only reads standard novels.
Kindle Scribe
The Kindle Scribe is a different category. Its larger screen and writing features suit note-taking and document work, not shoppers seeking a compact color e-reader.
Rank #4
- Light and compact - With adjustable brightness, high contrast ratio, and fast page turns.
- Effortless reading in any light - Read comfortably with a 6“ glare-free display, adjustable front light—now 25% brighter at max setting—and dark mode.
- Escape into your books - Tune out messages, emails, and social media with a distraction-free reading experience.
- Read for a while - Get up to 6 weeks of battery life on a single charge.
- Take your library with you - 16 GB storage holds thousands of books.
What to check before buying a future deal
- Confirm the model: Make sure the listing says 16GB Kindle Colorsoft, rather than Signature Edition, Colorsoft Kids, an international version or a refurbished device.
- Check the live price: The $169.99 figure is historical. Do not treat it as current unless the product page actually shows it.
- Review what is included: A case, power adapter or wireless charging dock should not be assumed to come with the device. Bundles are separate listings.
- Check the condition and seller: Verify whether the unit is new, used or refurbished, along with return terms and delivery timing.
- Compare the alternatives: If you mainly read novels, compare the live Colorsoft price with the standard Kindle and Paperwhite before paying for color.
Amazon’s 2026 Prime Day coverage referenced Colorsoft promotions, including an international 16GB version, but that does not establish a current U.S. price for the standard model. Regional versions can differ in availability, pricing and functionality.
Bottom line for deal hunters
The Black Friday 2025 offer was a meaningful value correction: the 16GB Kindle Colorsoft dropped from $249.99 to about $170, saving $80. That price made Colorsoft much easier to recommend for comics, graphic novels and illustrated books. It did not automatically make color worthwhile for conventional novel readers.
