Best Buy’s AT&T promotion advertises up to $800 in bill credits with qualified activation and trade-in.
For most shoppers, choose Samsung direct if you want flexibility, an unlocked phone and immediate savings. Choose a carrier promotion only if you already want that carrier and will keep the required plan for the entire credit period. The figures and availability below were checked against U.S. offer pages on August 16, 2026; promotions, eligible devices, inventory and checkout values can change.

Samsung’s U.S. product page lists the unlocked Galaxy S25 Ultra at $1,299.99 for 256GB, $1,419.99 for 512GB and $1,659.99 for 1TB. The product page showed trade-in credit of up to $570, while Samsung’s general offer pages showed amounts of up to roughly $520 or more. Treat that as a range, not a universal value: the quote depends on the phone you send, its condition and the offer displayed during checkout.

Samsung accepts eligible phones from other manufacturers, so you are not limited to trading a Galaxy device. The key advantage is that the credit is applied to the purchase rather than being spread over a long carrier contract. You can use the unlocked S25 Ultra with your preferred carrier and change providers later without losing a carrier subsidy.
Samsung’s important conditions
- You generally must ship the qualifying device within 15 days after receiving the new purchase.
- Samsung can charge back the applied credit if the device arrives late or fails the program’s requirements.
- One Samsung FAQ describes a possible $25 deduction in certain cases where Samsung accepts the device but determines it does not meet all requirements.
- Cracked-device treatment applies only when a specific cracked-device offer covers the device. Do not assume the normal trade-in program accepts a cracked screen or damaged chassis.
- Leased devices are generally ineligible unless you purchase the device from the carrier before trading it in.
- Samsung’s standard trade-in program cannot necessarily be combined with other promotions unless the applicable terms expressly allow it.

2. Highest headline credit: carrier financing through Samsung
Samsung’s 512GB carrier purchase page showed an offer of up to $1,100. That amount consists of a one-time trade-in credit plus 24 monthly bill credits on an eligible rate plan. It is therefore not equivalent to receiving $1,100 off an unlocked phone at checkout.

The financially relevant question is whether the required service is worth keeping. A carrier offer can be excellent when you already have the qualifying plan, are upgrading an existing line and would pay the same service bill anyway. It can be a poor deal when you switch solely for the promotion, add a line you do not need or move to a more expensive plan.
Check these terms before accepting a carrier deal
- Does the offer work for existing customers, new customers or both?
- Is a new line required, or is an upgrade eligible?
- Which exact rate plans qualify?
- Must the trade-in be paid off and in good working condition?
- How many months of credits are required?
- Do credits stop if you change plans, cancel service, port out, pay off the phone or upgrade early?
- Is the phone locked while installments remain?
- Is sales tax charged on the full retail price?
- Are activation, upgrade, restocking or other fees involved?
- Is the trade-in value credited immediately or only after inspection?
Before buying, write down the device installment amount, the monthly promotional credit, the credit duration and the remaining balance if you leave. A phone described as “free” may simply have its installment payment offset over the full promotional term.
3. Best Buy’s AT&T offer: up to $800
Best Buy’s AT&T listing advertised up to $800 in bill credits for a Galaxy S25 Ultra with qualified AT&T activation and trade-in. This is an AT&T installment and bill-credit promotion sold through Best Buy—not a standard unlocked Best Buy trade-in.
The offer’s eligible-device list included recent Galaxy, iPhone, Pixel, Motorola, OnePlus and other phones, but the exact credit depends on the device and condition. You must verify the applicable AT&T plan, activation method, installment arrangement and credit period at checkout. Taxes may be due on the full retail price when you buy the phone.

AT&T’s Best Buy offer page directs customers to AT&T’s trade-in terms and states that the promotion can change. Save the order confirmation, screenshots of the offer and all promotion terms. If the credit does not appear, those records make escalation easier.
4. Verizon and T-Mobile: evaluate the live offer, not an old headline
Verizon
Verizon’s device-deals FAQ confirms the general mechanics but does not establish a current S25 Ultra-specific credit amount here. Do not rely on a precise Verizon figure unless it appears in the live Verizon product page and checkout.
Verizon promotional credits generally appear on monthly bills after the trade-in is received. The eligible plan, device condition and customer status depend on the promotion. Some existing-customer offers require the traded device to have been active on the account for at least 60 consecutive days. New customers may be able to trade a phone from another carrier. Verizon says promotional terms can extend to 36 months, although that does not mean every S25 Ultra promotion uses 36 months.
T-Mobile
No reliable, current T-Mobile S25 Ultra-specific amount, plan name or eligible-device list was verified for this article. Check T-Mobile’s live product page before publication or purchase. In general, large T-Mobile-style credits are tied to a particular plan and paid monthly. Changing plans, leaving the carrier or upgrading early can end future credits.

Use this calculation for a carrier promotion:
Effective phone cost = device price + taxes and fees + required plan premium − instant credit − total bill credits
If switching carriers, use a second calculation:
True deal value = trade-in credits − extra service cost during the required term − activation or upgrade fees
For example, suppose a carrier offers a larger credit than Samsung but requires a more expensive plan. Multiply the monthly plan difference by the number of months you must remain eligible, then add activation fees and any remaining device balance you would face if you leave. Compare that total with Samsung’s unlocked price after its immediate trade-in credit. This is a framework for your own checkout figures, not a claim about a particular carrier quote.

Also compare storage. Samsung’s listed unlocked prices differ by configuration, so a larger trade-in credit on a 512GB carrier model may not be cheaper than a smaller credit on the 256GB unlocked model once the plan and installment terms are included.
6. Should you sell your old phone privately?
A clean, fully functional recent Ultra, iPhone Pro Max or flagship Galaxy may bring more through a private sale than through a standard trade-in. The trade-off is time and risk: you must create the listing, handle payment, ship the phone, manage returns and protect yourself against disputes or fraud.
Obtain at least three private-sale quotes before accepting a low direct trade-in value. Compare the expected proceeds after platform fees, shipping, payment fees, taxes and the value of your time. A guaranteed Samsung credit can still be preferable if it is close to the private-sale amount or if you need a fast, low-effort transaction.
Consider keeping the old phone as a backup if the net private-sale premium is small. A backup can be useful during repairs, travel or a future insurance claim, and it avoids the risk of selling a device for less than expected.
Potential comparison venues include eBay, Swappa and Facebook Marketplace. Prices change constantly, so do not treat an old listing or an unverified quote as a guaranteed resale value.
7. Buying a cheap phone just to trade it in
This strategy can work only when the promotion’s eligible-device list and minimum trade-in requirements clearly allow it. Calculate the result before buying the donor phone:
Net savings = additional trade-in credit − donor-phone price − tax and shipping − activation costs − extra service costs

The donor phone must satisfy all ownership, lock, activation and condition requirements. A financed, leased, blacklisted or account-linked phone may be rejected. The apparent savings can disappear through a new-line requirement, an expensive rate plan or an installment balance that remains after you cancel.
Do not buy a donor phone until you have confirmed the exact model number, condition tier and promotion terms in the live checkout. “Any phone” rarely means literally any phone.

Samsung’s FAQ says a cracked-device offer may accept phones with cracks when that specific offer applies, but all other requirements still matter. A normal trade-in quote should not be assumed to cover a cracked display, damaged chassis, swelling battery, missing parts or severe cosmetic damage.
Before choosing between repair and trade-in:
- Select the exact condition honestly.
- Compare the repair cost with the extra credit repair would unlock.
- Avoid unauthorized repairs that could create additional defects or remove water-resistance seals.
- Photograph every side of the device before shipment.
- Record the IMEI or serial number and keep it with the order details.
9. Trade-in preparation checklist
- Back up photos, messages, authenticator codes, contacts and app data.
- Transfer your data to the Galaxy S25 Ultra and verify that important apps work.
- Sign out of Samsung, Google and Apple accounts as applicable.
- Disable Samsung Reactivation Lock, Google Factory Reset Protection and Apple Find My.
- Remove the SIM card and microSD card.
- Confirm that the phone powers on, charges, holds a charge and has a functioning display.
- Confirm that the phone is not blacklisted and that you own it outright.
- Photograph the condition, IMEI or serial number and the package before sealing it.
- Use the supplied shipping materials and follow the return label instructions.
- Keep the receipt, tracking number and photos until the trade-in is fully accepted and all expected credits appear.
Samsung’s preparation guidance is available through its trade-in help page. A factory reset alone may not remove every cloud-based activation lock.
10. What to do when something goes wrong
The trade-in value is reduced
Compare the inspection reason with the original terms. Send the processor your pre-shipment photos and video, contact it promptly and ask whether the phone can be returned rather than accepting the revised value. If the purchase was made through a retailer or carrier, escalate through that seller as well.
The shipment is marked missing
Provide the shipping receipt and tracking confirmation, confirm that the IMEI on the order matches the phone you sent and request a case number. Do not discard the receipt until the credit is posted.

An activation lock remains enabled
Remove the phone from the relevant Apple, Google or Samsung account immediately. If it has already shipped, contact the trade-in processor; an unlocked account may still be required before inspection.
You want to leave the carrier
Check the remaining device balance and determine whether future promotional credits stop when you cancel, port out, change plans, pay off the phone or upgrade. Calculate the payoff before switching. Several months of credits do not make the phone economically free if a large installment balance remains.
Your desired storage or color is unavailable
Check every storage configuration and compare unlocked and carrier-specific SKUs. Do not assume that one advertised promotion applies to every configuration. The S26 family launched in 2026, and Samsung’s offer pages list S26 products alongside remaining S25 inventory, so S25 stock and colors may change quickly. Compare the effective S25 Ultra price with the current S26 Ultra promotion before calling the older model a bargain.
