What did Janrain do?
Janrain’s Identity Cloud was an enterprise CIAM offering. CIAM systems manage customer identity-related functions such as registration, login, authentication, privacy controls, and customer identity information. Akamai described Janrain’s services as a way for enterprises to offload login and registration workloads.
Why did Akamai acquire Janrain?
Akamai presented customer identity as a complement to its security and edge capabilities. Its stated rationale was that combining identity management with its platform could help secure digital interactions, support adaptive authentication, and strengthen defenses against fraudulent account creation and compromised credentials. Those were Akamai’s intended benefits, not independently measured outcomes established by the acquisition announcements.
