Take-Two Interactive Software (NASDAQ: TTWO) is the stock most directly positioned to benefit from Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI). Rockstar Games is scheduled to release the game on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026. Take-Two has reiterated fiscal 2027 net bookings guidance of $8.0 billion to $8.2 billion, up from $6.72 billion in fiscal 2026, but the launch is a catalyst—not a guaranteed share-price outcome.
Which stock could GTA VI reignite?
Take-Two owns Rockstar Games, the label behind the Grand Theft Auto franchise, so TTWO is the clearest public-market exposure to GTA VI. The company’s fiscal Q1 2027 results, published August 7, 2026, list the release for November 19, 2026, exclusively at launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Take-Two Chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick said the company was reiterating its fiscal 2027 net bookings outlook of $8.0 billion to $8.2 billion “with these positive trends and excitement around the November 19th launch of Grand Theft Auto VI.” That guidance covers the company’s full portfolio, not GTA VI alone, so it should not be treated as a forecast of the game’s individual sales.
What the launch could mean for Take-Two’s revenue scale
| Measure | Figure | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Fiscal 2026 net bookings | $6.72 billion | Take-Two reported 19% year-over-year growth for fiscal 2026. |
| Fiscal 2027 net bookings guidance | $8.0 billion–$8.2 billion | Management reiterated this range alongside the GTA VI release timing. |
| Implied increase versus fiscal 2026 | $1.28 billion–$1.48 billion | Simple comparison with the reported $6.72 billion fiscal 2026 figure; it is not guidance for GTA VI sales alone. |
| Recurrent consumer spending | 78% of fiscal 2026 net bookings | Includes virtual currency, add-on content, in-game purchases and in-game advertising. |
The midpoint of the fiscal 2027 range is approximately 21% above fiscal 2026 net bookings. That step-up reflects expectations for GTA VI as well as performance from other releases, catalog games and live services. A strong launch could therefore accelerate an already larger operating base, while a delay or weak post-launch engagement could make the guidance harder to achieve.

Why Grand Theft Auto V sets a high benchmark
GTA V demonstrates the franchise’s unusual combination of launch demand and longevity. Zacks Investment Research reported more than $800 million in worldwide retail sales during the game’s first 24 hours and more than $1 billion during its first three days. The same report said the title had sold nearly 230 million copies worldwide; Take-Two’s earlier 2025 Form 10-K separately reported more than 210 million units sold-in.
The commercial lesson is not that GTA VI will repeat those figures. It is that the largest opportunity may extend well beyond launch week. GTA V continued generating spending through Grand Theft Auto Online, illustrating why Take-Two’s 78% recurrent-consumer-spending mix matters to investors assessing the sequel.

How GTA VI could flow through to TTWO
- Initial sell-through: New-game purchases on the two current-generation console platforms would create the first revenue and bookings surge. A $79.99 launch price was cited by Zacks, but final regional pricing and edition details should be confirmed before purchase decisions.
- Platform expansion: The addressable audience depends on the installed base of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S systems and on how quickly owners of older consoles upgrade. The announced launch platforms do not include previous-generation hardware.
- Online retention: Ongoing play can support virtual currency, add-on content and other in-game purchases. Retention, content cadence and player sentiment will determine whether recurrent spending develops into a durable stream.
- Portfolio leverage: GTA VI would operate alongside NBA 2K, Zynga, Red Dead Redemption and other labels. Results from those businesses can cushion a shortfall or amplify a strong quarter, which is why company-wide net bookings are broader than one title.
What could derail the bullish case
- Timing and execution: A delay beyond November 19, 2026, technical problems or a troubled launch could shift bookings between reporting periods and weaken market confidence.
- Adoption and reviews: Sales depend on how quickly console owners buy the game, critical and player reception, and the game’s ability to sustain engagement after launch.
- Monetization: A large first-week audience does not guarantee long-term in-game spending. Changes in pricing, content quality, consumer tolerance or platform policies could reduce recurring revenue.
- Competition and portfolio results: Other major releases can compete for players’ time and money, while weaker performance from NBA 2K, mobile products or other labels could offset GTA VI strength.
- Macro and market risks: Take-Two has identified current-generation console growth, successful products and live services, mobile user-acquisition economics and stable foreign-exchange conditions as factors in its outlook. Investor expectations and the stock’s valuation can also move independently of reported bookings.

Is Take-Two stock a buy before GTA VI?
GTA VI gives TTWO a powerful, identifiable catalyst, but a release date alone is not an investment thesis. The stock’s eventual return will depend on how much success is already reflected in its price, whether the game meets exceptionally high expectations, and whether recurring spending lasts long enough to support earnings after launch.

A disciplined approach is to treat the $8.0 billion–$8.2 billion outlook as management’s current company-wide framework, then test each update against delivery, sell-through, retention and portfolio performance. Investors should also account for the possibility that a well-received game produces a muted share reaction if expectations were already elevated, or that a delay creates volatility even if long-term demand remains intact.
For anyone considering TTWO, the central question is therefore not simply “Will GTA VI sell?” It is whether the launch can convert the franchise’s proven demand into sustained recurrent spending while Take-Two executes across the rest of its business.
