Use Synthesia or HeyGen when a presenter should read a script, Pictory or InVideo AI when written material needs to become a video, Runway when you need newly generated scenes, Canva when brand design and templates matter, and CapCut when you are polishing short-form footage for social channels. These tools are not interchangeable, and none should be treated as a universal winner.
For an online seller, the most important check is product accuracy. Inspect every generated frame for packaging, logos, colors, dimensions, labels, and other details before publishing. Then check the destination format: vertical video for many short-form feeds, square for feed placements, and landscape or square for many product pages.

Start with the workflow, not the brand list
An “AI video generator” can mean several different production systems. One may synthesize a presenter from a script; another may assemble stock footage around an article; another may create a few seconds of cinematic imagery from a prompt; and another may simply make editing existing footage faster. Choosing by a generic ranking often leads to buying the wrong type of tool.

Presenter-led explainers and demonstrations
Choose an avatar workflow when you need a person on screen but do not want to film a new presenter for every language, offer, or product variation. Synthesia and HeyGen fit this use. They can turn an approved script into a presenter-led video for an explainer, onboarding clip, sales message, or product introduction. You still have to check pronunciation, claims, pacing, and whether the presenter accurately describes what the product does.
#1 Best Overall
Blog posts, scripts, and campaign concepts
Pictory and InVideo AI are better suited to turning written material or a prompt into an assembled draft. A retailer can repurpose a buying guide, launch outline, or campaign brief, then replace unsuitable scenes and rewrite any wording that overstates a product. These systems can save assembly time, but the first draft is not a substitute for fact-checking.
Newly generated scenes or product b-roll
Runway addresses a different need: generating shots or cinematic b-roll that was not filmed. It can help illustrate a mood, transition, or concept when a conventional product photo is too static. Generated imagery is especially risky for physical goods because small changes to geometry, labels, or colors can make the item look different from what a customer will receive.
Branded design and short-form editing
Canva is a design-led option for businesses that already work with brand templates, logos, colors, and social layouts. CapCut is positioned for fast short-form editing, where trimming, captions, effects, and reframing existing clips are more valuable than generating a complete advertisement from scratch.

Seven tools compared by job
| Tool | Best fit | Primary input | Typical output | What to watch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Synthesia | Scripted presenter videos | Written script | Avatar-led explainer, training, or product introduction | Review script, voice, presenter representation, and product claims; Shopify’s September 2026 roundup reported a free tier limited to 10 minutes per month and a $19/month starting figure for its US-facing comparison. |
| HeyGen | Presenter videos and seller-oriented ad variations | Script; seller workflows may also start from product material | Avatar presentation or social-commerce style ad | Plan limits and billing terms differ. Shopify reported $29/month and three watermarked videos per month on a free plan; HeyGen’s own comparison reported Creator at $24/month billed annually or $29 month-to-month. |
| Pictory | Article and script repurposing | Blog post, outline, or script | Assembled video using selected scenes and narration elements | Check scene selection, factual wording, stock or generated visuals, and export limits. Shopify reported a $29/month starting figure. |
| InVideo AI | Prompt- or script-to-video drafts | Prompt, script, or campaign concept | Edited sequence with visuals, text, and voice elements | Generation meters and retry costs matter; Shopify reported a $20/month starting figure, but plan details can change. |
| Runway | Generated shots and cinematic product b-roll | Text prompt or image reference | New short clips or visual inserts | Generated objects may not preserve exact packaging, logos, geometry, or color. Treat output as illustrative until checked against the real product. |
| Canva | Branded template-based video | Brand assets, photos, clips, and design layouts | Social, promotional, or product-page video assembled in a design workflow | Its advantage is brand control and reusable layouts; current plan prices, export limits, and AI allowances should be verified before purchase. |
| CapCut | Editing and adapting short-form footage | Existing clips, photos, captions, and audio | Vertical or square social edit with captions, effects, and reframing | It is most useful when you already have footage. Confirm current export, watermark, AI allowance, and commercial-use terms for your edition. |
The table is a workflow map rather than an independent performance ranking. Shopify’s roundup, Loudscene’s small-business guide, and HeyGen’s ecommerce material describe different plan contexts and use cases; they do not establish a single objectively best tool.
Detailed guide to each generator
Synthesia: a controlled presenter without a filming day
Synthesia is a practical starting point when the message is already known and the business needs a presenter on screen. Write a concise script, select an available avatar and voice, divide the message into scenes, and render a version for the intended channel. This is useful for product introductions, frequently asked questions, internal training, and sales enablement where a consistent delivery matters more than cinematic imagery.
The main operational advantage is repeatability: the same approved copy can be adapted into multiple versions without scheduling a new shoot. That does not remove editorial work. A reviewer should confirm that the wording matches the actual product, the pronunciation of brand and technical terms is acceptable, and the avatar’s gestures and appearance are suitable for the audience.
Shopify’s September 2026 roundup reported a free Synthesia tier with 10 minutes per month and a $19/month starting figure for its US-facing comparison. Those are reported snapshots, not a permanent price guarantee. Before subscribing, verify the billing period, included minutes, export resolution, watermark rules, available avatars and voices, language coverage, seat count, and commercial-use terms on the current vendor page.

HeyGen: presenter videos with seller-oriented variations
HeyGen fits businesses that want an avatar presenter and may also need multiple versions for social or ecommerce campaigns. A seller can prepare one factual script, then vary the opening, offer, call to action, or language while keeping the core description consistent. This is useful for product introductions, comparison explainers, and sales messages that do not require a filmed host.
Do not confuse a presenter workflow with a product-faithful demonstration. If the video shows a generated or composited product, inspect every shot against the real item. A presenter can explain a product accurately while an accompanying visual still displays the wrong package or color.
Price evidence differs by context. Shopify reported $29/month and a free plan limited to three watermarked videos per month. HeyGen’s vendor-authored ecommerce comparison reported a Creator plan at $24/month when billed annually or $29 month-to-month. These figures use different billing terms and sources, so they should not be merged into one universal starting price. Check the current plan page for minutes, credits, watermark removal, export settings, seats, avatar options, and language features.
Pictory: turn written material into a first video draft
Pictory is aimed at converting text into an assembled video. That makes it useful for a small business with a backlog of articles, buying guides, educational posts, or campaign outlines. Paste or prepare the source text, let the system propose scenes and pacing, then replace any visual that does not support the sentence it accompanies.
Recommended Free Tools
The review step is particularly important for finance, health, technical, and regulated claims. Automated scene selection can create an attractive sequence that implies something the source text never promised. Read every on-screen caption, compare the narration with the approved copy, and remove stock footage that could misrepresent the product or customer.
Shopify’s September 2026 roundup listed a $29/month starting figure. The practical cost depends on how many drafts you render, how often you revise scenes, and whether the plan includes the resolution and exports you need. Confirm those limits before treating the monthly price as the cost of a finished clip.
InVideo AI: prompt-to-video campaign concepts
InVideo AI is suited to a business that wants to describe a campaign and receive a structured draft with scenes, text, and voice elements. It can be useful at the concept stage: test two hooks, create a first version of a seasonal announcement, or turn a rough script into an editable sequence.
Rank #3
Use a precise brief. State the audience, product facts, offer dates, prohibited claims, visual style, destination, and call to action. Then inspect the generated sequence line by line. Rewrite generic or exaggerated wording, replace irrelevant footage, and make sure the call to action leads to the correct page.
Shopify reported a $20/month starting figure in its 2026 roundup. Prompt-based systems can consume credits or other generation allowances when you retry a draft, so compare the included meter with your expected number of revisions. A low headline price can become expensive if each change requires a new generation and only a fraction of drafts are publishable.
Runway: generate shots that were never filmed
Runway belongs in a production plan when you need an original visual insert rather than a complete product-page ad. A prompt or image reference can produce atmospheric b-roll, transitions, or cinematic scenes for a launch video. This can help a small brand create visual variety without arranging a location shoot.
Use it cautiously for physical products. Generated video may alter a bottle’s proportions, move a logo, change a label, add or remove features, or produce a color that is not sold. If the product itself must be shown, use approved photography or video for the factual view and reserve generated shots for clearly illustrative moments.
Plan for iteration. Define the shot length, aspect ratio, camera movement, lighting, and elements that must not change. Keep a human review step before any generated clip is placed beside a purchase claim. Current Runway pricing and generation allowances were not established in the cited comparisons, so verify the live plan terms and credit rules directly.

Canva is a strong fit when the business already manages social graphics, presentations, and brand templates in a design workflow. Instead of starting with a blank video editor, you can combine approved logos, colors, product photos, type styles, and motion layouts. This makes it useful for recurring promotions where consistency matters more than fully automated generation.
Build a small template library: a vertical product feature, a square offer card, a landscape product-page introduction, and a version with space for subtitles. Lock the brand elements that should not change, then duplicate the template for each product or campaign. Review text contrast and safe areas after changing the aspect ratio; an element that works in a square layout can be cropped in a vertical export.
Rank #4
Canva’s current prices, AI allowances, export settings, and commercial-use terms can vary by plan and region. Verify those details before purchasing, especially if several staff members need seats or if the workflow depends on premium assets.
CapCut: fast finishing for short-form channels
CapCut is most useful when the business already has phone footage, customer clips, product demonstrations, or still photos and needs a fast social edit. Trim the strongest moments, add readable captions, reframe for vertical or square delivery, and create multiple openings for testing. This is a different job from generating an entire commercial from a URL.
Keep the source files organized and preserve a clean master without platform-specific text. Then create channel versions with captions and calls to action placed inside the destination’s safe area. Watch for automatic caption errors, especially product names, prices, measurements, and technical terms.
Because plan features and export policies can change by edition and geography, confirm current watermark, resolution, AI allowance, audio rights, and commercial-use terms before relying on CapCut for a paid campaign.

1. Define the sales job
Write one sentence describing the outcome: explain a product, demonstrate a use, repurpose an article, create a launch concept, or edit footage already captured. If the sentence includes “show the exact product,” prioritize approved assets and a tool that lets you control the edit rather than relying entirely on generated imagery.
2. Choose the source material
Gather the final product name, price, specifications, approved claims, logo files, product photos, filmed clips, and destination URL. Mark statements that must not change. This gives you a factual reference when an automated script or scene suggestion introduces an error.
3. Select the narrowest tool category
Use an avatar tool for a presenter, a script-to-video tool for written content, Runway for new visual inserts, Canva for branded layouts, and CapCut for finishing existing footage. A narrow fit usually reduces wasted generations and manual correction.
Best Value
- It can be a gift option
- Comes with secure packaging
- Helpful in various ways
4. Set the destination format before generating
Specify vertical 9:16 for short-form social, square 1:1 for many feed placements, or landscape and square for product-page use when those are the formats your destination accepts. Do not assume one export can be cropped safely into every placement. Check where captions, logos, and product details land after reframing.
5. Generate a small draft first
Make one short version before producing a full campaign. Check the voice, pacing, visual style, caption readability, and whether the product remains accurate. A short draft exposes a poor workflow before it consumes a large allowance of credits or minutes.
6. Audit every factual and visual claim
- Compare spoken and on-screen wording with the approved product information.
- Inspect packaging, logos, labels, colors, geometry, and accessories frame by frame.
- Remove scenes that imply performance, availability, or results you cannot substantiate.
- Check prices, dates, discount language, and destination links immediately before export.
7. Create channel versions and a clean master
Keep an unbranded or minimally branded master, then export the required vertical, square, or landscape versions. Review each export on a phone and desktop where appropriate. Cropping can hide a product feature, cut off a subtitle, or place a call to action under interface controls.

Commercial-use permissions, stock-media licenses, voice and avatar rights, storage, and team-seat rules differ by service and plan. Verify the current terms for your region and edition. Do not assume that a free export has the same rights or watermark policy as a paid plan.
How to compare plans beyond the monthly headline
The usable cost is the cost of an approved clip, not simply the advertised subscription. Compare the limits that determine how many finished assets you can actually publish:
- Generation credits or minutes: A draft, a revision, and a final export may consume the same allowance or different allowances.
- Watermarks: Free plans may add a watermark, as Shopify reported for HeyGen’s three-video free tier.
- Resolution and export formats: A plan may support a format that your social or product-page placement does not.
- Seats and collaboration: A low individual price may not cover the number of people who need access.
- Retry cost: Prompt-based generation can use credits each time you regenerate a scene.
- Avatar, voice, and language access: Presenter and localization options may be restricted to particular plans.
- Commercial-use and asset rights: Verify whether the plan permits paid advertising and whether included stock or audio can be used commercially.
The reported prices provide orientation, not a guarantee. Shopify’s September 2026 figures were US-facing examples; Loudscene said it checked vendor prices in September 2026; and HeyGen’s ecommerce comparison used its own plan descriptions and workload assumptions. Vendor pricing pages are dynamic, and the reviewed pages did not expose a complete, independently readable table for every service. Recheck the current price, billing period, geography, limits, and rights before payment.
What the ecommerce test evidence does—and does not—show
HeyGen’s vendor-authored comparison described a specific test: a ceramic travel mug photo, a 30-second script, watermark-free 9:16 and 1:1 targets, and three runs per tool in October 2026. Any scores, rankings, or workflow costs from that exercise are HeyGen’s reported results under its stated method. They are not independent category-wide performance measurements.

A practical decision guide
- You need a talking head without filming: Start with Synthesia or HeyGen, then review voice, wording, representation, and product visuals.
- You have a library of articles or scripts: Test Pictory and InVideo AI on one approved piece and measure how much scene replacement and copy editing are required.
- You need cinematic inserts: Use Runway for illustrative b-roll while keeping factual product views in approved footage.
- Your priority is brand consistency: Use Canva templates with locked brand elements and separate exports for each aspect ratio.
- You already filmed the product: Use CapCut to trim, caption, reframe, and create short-form variations before considering full generation.
- You sell a visually exact product: Favor a workflow with human-controlled assets, and treat generated product shots as drafts until every detail is verified.
Bottom line for a small business
Pick the tool that matches your production bottleneck. Synthesia and HeyGen reduce the need to film a presenter; Pictory and InVideo AI accelerate text-led drafts; Runway creates new visual material; Canva protects a template-driven brand workflow; and CapCut speeds up short-form editing. For ecommerce, product fidelity and plan limits matter more than a generic “best AI” label. Run a small, representative test, count the usable clips after revisions, and verify current pricing and rights before committing.
