There is no single best email marketing service in 2026. For most beginners and small businesses, Brevo is the strongest low-cost, multi-channel choice, while MailerLite is better for simple newsletters, landing pages, and lightweight automations. Ecommerce stores should look first at Klaviyo, Omnisend, or Drip. B2B teams usually need HubSpot or ActiveCampaign, not a newsletter-only tool. Creators should compare Kit and beehiiv.
Updated August 10, 2026: Prices and plan limits below reflect US-dollar prices displayed or documented on official provider pages at the time of checking. They can change by audience size, billing term, geography, taxes, promotional pricing, SMS usage, seats, onboarding, and add-ons. This is a documented comparison, not a claim that a few seed emails establish a platform-wide deliverability ranking.

Quick picks: the best email service for each situation
- Best for most beginners: Brevo if you send irregularly or need transactional email; MailerLite if you want the simplest newsletter-building experience.
- Best simple newsletter platform: MailerLite.
- Best small-business support: Constant Contact, especially when phone support, events, or local-organ-ization tools matter more than advanced branching automation.
- Best free plan for a creator: Kit, with up to 10,000 active unique subscribers and unlimited sends, although its free automation is intentionally limited.
- Best free plan for a publication: beehiiv Launch, which supports up to 2,500 subscribers and unlimited sends.
- Best ecommerce platform: Klaviyo for sophisticated data and analytics; Omnisend for an easier store-focused experience; Drip for ecommerce CRM and behavioral automation.
- Best for Shopify: Klaviyo or Omnisend, depending on whether you prioritize advanced customer data or ease and price.
- Best for WooCommerce: Omnisend, Klaviyo, Drip, or Brevo, chosen after checking the exact events and fields your store needs.
- Best for B2B lead nurturing: HubSpot when the CRM should be the center of the system; ActiveCampaign when automation depth matters more than an all-in-one CRM suite.
- Best advanced automation: ActiveCampaign.
- Best transactional email and email in one account: Brevo, which explicitly includes transactional email and SMS on its free plan.
- Best email and SMS combination: Brevo for broad low-cost multichannel use; Klaviyo or Omnisend for ecommerce behavior and product data.
- Best paid newsletter business: beehiiv for publication growth and monetization; Kit for creators selling products, courses, or memberships.
- Best webinars and funnels: GetResponse.
- Best familiar general-purpose option: Mailchimp, provided you understand how it counts contacts and how its current pricing changes at higher tiers.
These recommendations are intentionally scenario-based. A platform that is excellent for a Shopify abandoned-cart sequence may be a poor choice for a weekly nonprofit newsletter, and a creator publication does not necessarily need a CRM.
What an email marketing service actually does
Email marketing services are not one product category. They generally combine some mix of contact storage, signup forms, campaign creation, automation, segmentation, analytics, integrations, and delivery infrastructure. The important distinction is what each service considers the central job.
#1 Best Overall
- Compact Mouse: With a comfortable and contoured shape, this Logitech ambidextrous wireless mouse feels great in either right or left hand and is far superior to a touchpad
- Durable and Reliable: This USB wireless mouse features a line-by-line scroll wheel, up to 1 year of battery life (2) thanks to a smart sleep mode function, and comes with the included AA battery
- Universal Compatibility: Your Logitech mouse works with your Windows PC, Mac, or laptop, so no matter what type of computer you own today or buy tomorrow your mouse will be compatible
- Plug and Play Simplicity: Just plug in the tiny nano USB receiver and start working in seconds with a strong, reliable connection to your wireless computer mouse up to 33 feet / 10 m (5)
- Better than touchpad: Get more done by adding M185 to your laptop; according to a recent study, laptop users who chose this mouse over a touchpad were 50% more productive (3) and worked 30% faster (4)
- Newsletter and broadcast platforms are designed for regular campaigns such as weekly updates, announcements, and editorial newsletters. MailerLite, Mailchimp, AWeber, and Constant Contact fit here.
- Marketing automation platforms use behavior, tags, custom fields, lead scores, and conditional journeys to nurture prospects. ActiveCampaign and GetResponse are prominent examples.
- Ecommerce lifecycle platforms connect to a store and react to product views, carts, purchases, refunds, and customer value. Klaviyo, Omnisend, and Drip are built around this model.
- CRM-based marketing suites connect marketing activity with sales records, pipelines, forms, chat, reporting, and team permissions. HubSpot is the clearest example.
- Creator newsletter platforms treat the publication or audience as the business. Kit and beehiiv emphasize subscriber growth, paid subscriptions, recommendations, and digital products.
- Transactional email services send operational messages such as receipts, password resets, order confirmations, and account alerts through an API or SMTP relay. Marketing automation and transactional email can coexist, but they are not interchangeable.
This is why comparing MailerLite, Klaviyo, HubSpot, beehiiv, and Drip on one universal star rating is misleading. The right question is whether the platform can perform the work your business actually needs at an acceptable total cost.
Comparison of the 14 leading services
The table uses the pricing information available on August 10, 2026. A starting price is not a quote for your account: contact definitions, email volume, annual billing, SMS, seats, and add-ons can change the result.

Detailed reviews
1. Brevo: best for low-cost, multichannel sending
Verdict: Brevo is the most practical starting point for a small business that sends irregular campaigns, needs transactional messages, or wants email, SMS, WhatsApp, and basic CRM features without paying solely for a large contact list.
Its free plan allows up to 100,000 stored contacts, but only 300 email sends per day. That is free storage, not unlimited free sending. If you send a large newsletter on one day, the daily cap matters even when the monthly volume is modest. Starter begins at $9 per month and Standard at $18 per month according to Brevo’s plan documentation. Removing the Brevo logo on Starter costs extra.
Brevo is unusually useful when marketing and operational email belong in the same general stack: newsletters, signup forms, basic automation, transactional API or SMTP delivery, SMS, WhatsApp, and CRM functions. It is also a sensible WordPress starting point when you need forms and straightforward broadcasts rather than a sophisticated customer-data model.
Choose it if: you send occasionally, have many stored contacts but low volume, need transactional email, or want an inexpensive multichannel foundation.
Do not choose it if: you need deeply granular ecommerce event modeling, advanced B2B lead scoring, or a highly specialized creator publication.
Best alternatives: MailerLite for a cleaner newsletter experience; Omnisend for store automation; ActiveCampaign for more complex journeys.
2. MailerLite: best for simple newsletters and small businesses
Verdict: MailerLite is the strongest general recommendation for a blogger, freelancer, nonprofit, or small business that wants to build a clean campaign, landing page, form, or basic automation without learning a full CRM.
The free plan supports up to 250 subscribers and 2,500 monthly emails. Paid pricing introduced in June 2026 lists Comfort from $12 per month and Power from $25 per month. The exact tier depends on the account’s subscriber limit and features; MailerLite’s billing documentation says paid accounts can move automatically to a higher subscriber tier when the limit is exceeded.
The platform’s strengths are ease of use, landing pages, signup forms, visual automations, reusable content, and digital-product features. Its automation is sufficient for welcome sequences, lead magnets, basic tagging, and engagement follow-ups. It is not the natural choice for complex CRM scoring or an ecommerce event stream with extensive product and purchase logic.
Recommended Free Tools
Choose it if: you value speed, a clean editor, and predictable newsletter workflows.
Do not choose it if: you need advanced sales pipelines, sophisticated predictive ecommerce analytics, or a publication business centered on paid subscriptions and referral growth.
Best alternatives: Brevo for transactional email and volume-based pricing; Kit for creator products; Constant Contact for phone support and events.
3. Constant Contact: best for support, events, and local organizations
Verdict: Constant Contact remains a good fit for a small organization that wants an approachable interface, templates, phone or chat support, event-related tools, and social features.

1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe pricing page currently displays Lite at $8.40 per month, Standard at $24.50, and Premium at $56. Send limits are listed as 10 times, 12 times, and 24 times the contact count, respectively. Those figures should be interpreted together with the plan’s contact tier and billing terms; the headline price is not a universal quote.
Constant Contact is particularly reasonable for local businesses, associations, nonprofits, and event organizers where support and simple execution are more important than complex branching. It has forms, templates, campaign reporting, social tools, and automation, but its logic is less deep than ActiveCampaign, HubSpot, Klaviyo, or Drip.
Choose it if: nontechnical staff need help, phone support has real value, or events and regular announcements are central to your communication.
Do not choose it if: you need extensive behavioral branching, advanced ecommerce attribution, or a permanent free plan.

4. AWeber: best for bloggers and RSS newsletters
Verdict: AWeber is a mature, straightforward option for bloggers, publishers, and small lists that want RSS-to-email, forms, tagging, support, ecommerce features, or web push without moving to an enterprise platform.
At 500 subscribers, the official pricing page shows Lite at $15 per month or $150 per year and Plus at $30 per month or $240 per year. Because pricing is list-based, inactive, duplicate, or poorly cleaned contacts can affect the bill. Review the current definition of billable subscribers before importing a legacy list.
AWeber’s durable advantage is familiarity: forms, broadcasts, RSS newsletters, tags, automations, and support are all established workflows. Its interface and templates may feel less modern than newer competitors, and its value declines for a rapidly growing list that does not need the extra features.
Choose it if: you operate a blog, want automated RSS newsletters, or prefer a mature service with accessible support.
Do not choose it if: your main requirement is advanced ecommerce behavior, sophisticated CRM, or creator monetization tools.

5. Drip: best for ecommerce CRM and behavioral automation
Verdict: Drip is for online stores that want marketing to react to customer behavior, not merely send newsletters.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

Drip’s official pricing is dynamic, so an old universal claim such as $39 per month should not be treated as current. Calculate the live quote using your subscriber or customer tier, sending needs, and any relevant features at Drip’s pricing page.
The platform is centered on ecommerce CRM data: purchases, product activity, abandoned carts, customer segments, repeat-purchase behavior, and revenue attribution. That makes it a better fit than a newsletter tool for post-purchase sequences, win-back campaigns, product-interest segments, and customer-value workflows.
Choose it if: your store needs behavioral automation and revenue-focused segmentation but you do not want to assemble a large CRM suite.
Do not choose it if: you are sending one newsletter per week, have a very small list, or need a creator publication with native paid subscriptions.

6. HubSpot Marketing Hub: best for CRM-led B2B marketing
Verdict: HubSpot is better understood as a CRM and marketing system than as an ordinary email service. It is powerful when marketing, sales, support, forms, chat, pipeline data, and reporting need to share one customer record.
HubSpot’s official page currently displays Free tools, Starter at $7 per month, Professional at $800 per month, and Enterprise at $3,600 per month. The $7 figure should not be used as a realistic budget for every marketing team: contact tiers, marketing-contact definitions, send limits, seats, onboarding, and other HubSpot products can materially change the total cost. Review the current details at HubSpot’s Marketing Hub pricing page.
HubSpot is a strong choice for lead capture, lifecycle stages, sales handoff, CRM segmentation, personalization, forms, chat, and attribution. Its weakness is proportionality. If all you need is a monthly newsletter and a welcome email, paying for a CRM-centered system adds cost and implementation burden without solving a real problem.

7. Omnisend: best for store owners who want email, SMS, and push
Verdict: Omnisend is one of the most approachable choices for Shopify, WooCommerce, and similar ecommerce businesses that need product blocks, cart recovery, post-purchase messages, and multichannel workflows.
The current 2026 documentation lists a free plan with 500 emails per month to up to 250 unique contacts. Standard starts at $16 per month and Pro at $59 per month. Standard email credits equal billable contacts multiplied by 12, while Pro includes unlimited email. New paid customers after May 4, 2026 need Pro for SMS under the current plan rules. See Omnisend’s 2026 pricing documentation.
Do not assume that only newsletter subscribers count. Omnisend says billable contacts can include subscribers and certain non-subscribers, including abandoned-cart and other ecommerce contacts. That can make a store’s real bill higher than a simple subscriber-count comparison suggests.
Choose it if: you want a store-aware editor, product picker, cart recovery, email, SMS, and push notifications without building every workflow from scratch.
Do not choose it if: your business has no ecommerce events or you require the deepest possible predictive analytics and custom data model.
Best alternatives: Klaviyo for advanced data and segmentation; Drip for ecommerce CRM; Brevo for lower-cost general-purpose and transactional email.
8. Klaviyo: best for sophisticated ecommerce lifecycle marketing
Verdict: Klaviyo is the strongest choice for a data-driven ecommerce company that can use product, browsing, purchase, and customer-value data to personalize every stage of the lifecycle.
The free plan supports up to 250 active profiles, 500 monthly email sends, and 150 SMS/MMS credits. The official pricing page currently displays Email starting at $45 per month for 15,000 email sends. The phrase active profiles matters: this is not equivalent to a free plan for a large inactive list.
Klaviyo’s strengths include event data, behavioral segments, predictive analytics, product and purchase automation, revenue reporting, and coordinated email and SMS. Its price can rise quickly as active profiles and channel usage increase, so evaluate the account using total billable profiles and realistic monthly messaging, not the free allowance.

9. Moosend: best budget alternative for visual automation
Verdict: Moosend deserves consideration when you want visual automation, ecommerce triggers, landing pages, heatmaps, and product recommendations without immediately committing to a large CRM platform.

Its trade-off is ecosystem size and market familiarity. Confirm that your WordPress, store, payment, webinar, course, or CRM integration exposes the events and custom fields you need. Transactional email is available through SMTP or API arrangements, but it may be an add-on or higher-level configuration rather than an automatic feature of every plan.
Choose it if: visual automation and budget flexibility matter more than the largest integration marketplace.
Do not choose it if: you need the deepest Shopify data, a major B2B CRM, or a creator-first publication business.

10. ActiveCampaign: best for advanced automation
Verdict: ActiveCampaign is the best fit among this group when a business needs multi-step journeys, conditional logic, lead scoring, CRM functions, and many possible triggers and exits.
The current pricing page uses Starter, Plus, Pro, and Enterprise plans with dynamic contact-based pricing. It does not provide a stable universal starting price that should be copied into a comparison chart. The quote depends on contacts, plan, billing term, and potentially add-ons.
ActiveCampaign supports complex automation maps, behavioral segmentation, CRM workflows, ecommerce integrations, AI features, and a large library of automation recipes. It can handle workflows such as form submission to welcome email, a two-day wait, click-based branching, custom-field updates, purchase exits, re-entry rules, and lead scoring. The same flexibility creates the learning curve: a simple newsletter can feel unnecessarily complicated.

11. GetResponse: best for webinars, funnels, and courses
Verdict: GetResponse is differentiated by breadth. It combines email, automation, landing pages, funnels, webinars, courses, paid newsletters, web push, and ecommerce capabilities.
Current displayed prices are Starter at $19 per month or $15.58 per month when billed annually, Marketer at $59 or $48.38 annually, and Creator at $69 or $56.58 annually. Plans include unlimited monthly email sends according to the supplied pricing snapshot, but the features that make GetResponse distinctive vary by tier.
This is useful for an educator, coach, course seller, or business that would otherwise stitch together an email platform, webinar service, funnel builder, and course tool. The cost is feature density: users who only need newsletters may find the interface and upgrade path heavier than necessary.
Choose it if: webinars, funnels, courses, or paid newsletters are part of the same marketing operation.

12. beehiiv: best for professional newsletter businesses
Verdict: beehiiv is designed for a publication whose newsletter and audience are the product. It is not a general replacement for an ecommerce CRM.
The free Launch plan supports up to 2,500 subscribers with unlimited sends. Scale costs $43 per month or $517 annually, and Max costs $96 per month or $1,151 annually according to beehiiv’s pricing page. Paid tiers add capabilities around referrals, recommendations, ad monetization, paid subscriptions, digital products, website tools, and analytics.

13. Kit: best for authors and creators
Verdict: Kit is the strongest fit for authors, podcasters, educators, and creators who want forms, landing pages, sequences, recommendations, digital products, paid newsletters, and audience growth in one creator-focused service.
The free Newsletter Plan supports up to 10,000 active unique subscribers and unlimited sends. It includes forms, landing pages, digital products, and one basic visual automation with one sequence. The free plan is therefore generous for broadcasting but not equivalent to unlimited automation.
Paid Creator starts at $39 per month and Creator Pro at $79 per month for up to 1,000 subscribers, based on the current plan documentation. Kit also advertises free migration for paid creators, but confirm exactly what will move: contacts, fields, forms, sequences, templates, reports, and consent history are not necessarily migrated in the same way.
Choose it if: your audience, products, courses, sponsorships, or paid newsletter are the business.
Do not choose it if: you need a product catalog, abandoned-cart event stream, complex sales CRM, or enterprise permissions.
Best alternatives: beehiiv for media and referral growth; GetResponse for webinars and funnels; MailerLite for a more general small-business tool.
14. Mailchimp: best familiar all-purpose option, with pricing caveats
Verdict: Mailchimp remains a reasonable choice when ease of recognition, a polished editor, familiar workflows, and a broad integration ecosystem reduce switching or training costs.
The free plan allows up to 250 contacts, 500 monthly sends, and 250 sends per day. Mailchimp’s contact definition is especially important: subscribed, unsubscribed, and non-subscribed contacts can count toward contact totals, while archived, cleaned, and deleted contacts do not. Exceeding a free limit can pause sending, so do not treat the free tier as a permanent guarantee for a growing list.
Mailchimp offers campaign creation, forms, basic automations, reporting, integrations, and AI-assisted content features. It is less compelling when advanced automation or ecommerce data is the reason you are shopping. Current paid prices depend on contact and send limits, and promotional starting prices should be checked at checkout rather than copied from an old comparison.
Choose it if: your team already knows it, your integrations are important, and your automation needs are moderate.
Do not choose it if: you want the lowest cost at a large list, deep ecommerce behavior, or creator-native paid subscriptions.
Best alternatives: MailerLite or Brevo for lower-cost general use; Omnisend or Klaviyo for ecommerce; ActiveCampaign for advanced automation.
Pricing: compare the bill, not the headline
Email platforms use fundamentally different pricing models. A provider charging $9 for a small send allowance may cost less than a contact-based tool for an occasional sender, while a high-volume sender may prefer a contact plan with generous or unlimited sends. Neither price is universally cheaper without the same scenario.
The main pricing models
- Contact-based pricing: your bill rises with the number of stored or subscribed contacts. AWeber and many Mailchimp plans fit this model.
- Active-profile pricing: only profiles considered active or marketable may count, as with Klaviyo. The definition still needs checking.
- Billable-contact pricing: ecommerce platforms may count subscribers plus certain non-subscribers, abandoned-cart contacts, or other reachable profiles. Omnisend is an important example.
- Email-volume pricing: the bill is tied primarily to monthly or daily sends. Brevo can be attractive when the list is large but sends are infrequent.
- Combined contact-and-send pricing: the plan may cap both audience size and the number of messages.
- SMS pricing: SMS and MMS are typically credit-based, country-specific, and separate from email. Carrier fees, message length, and local rules can affect cost.
- Pay-as-you-go credits: useful for irregular campaigns, but compare expiration, automation, transactional, and support restrictions.
- Annual discounts: a monthly equivalent can conceal an annual prepayment. GetResponse, beehiiv, AWeber, and others display annual savings.
- Add-ons and implementation costs: dedicated IPs, transactional email, CRM seats, onboarding, logo removal, additional users, and premium support may sit outside the advertised plan.
Before subscribing, write down these inputs: number of contacts, number of active profiles, number of monthly sends, largest one-day send, SMS recipients, number of users, required integrations, automation tier, transactional volume, billing term, country, currency, taxes, and expected growth. Then request or calculate the price for the same inputs across two or three finalists.

| 250 contacts and 2,500 emails per month | Whether the free plan permits the full monthly volume and whether one-day limits matter | MailerLite, Mailchimp, Kit, beehiiv, or Brevo depending on the workflow |
| 1,000 contacts and 10,000 emails per month | Contact tier, annual versus monthly billing, branding, automation, and whether the provider counts all stored contacts | MailerLite, Brevo, AWeber, Constant Contact, or GetResponse after a live quote |
| 5,000 contacts and 50,000 emails per month | Send allowance, inactive-contact rules, deliverability controls, segmentation, and upgrade thresholds | Brevo, GetResponse, MailerLite, or a specialist platform matched to the use case |
| 5,000 marketing subscribers, 20,000 ecommerce billable contacts, 50,000 sends, and SMS | Active or billable profile definitions, store events, SMS credits, attribution, and the tier required for SMS | Klaviyo, Omnisend, Drip, or Brevo; calculate the live quote rather than relying on entry pricing |
What free plans really provide
A free plan can mean free storage, free sending, a restricted trial, or a generous newsletter tier with most automation removed. Compare the operational limit, not just the contact headline.
- Brevo: unusually large free contact storage, but 300 emails per day. It works for low-volume or spread-out sending, not a large single-day blast.
- MailerLite: 250 subscribers and 2,500 monthly emails. A practical starter allowance for a small list.
- Mailchimp: 250 contacts, 500 monthly sends, and 250 daily sends. Subscribed, unsubscribed, and non-subscribed contacts may count.
- Kit: up to 10,000 active unique subscribers and unlimited sends, but one basic visual automation and one sequence on the free plan.
- beehiiv: up to 2,500 subscribers with unlimited sends on Launch, but paid subscriptions and some growth or automation capabilities require paid tiers.
- Klaviyo: 250 active profiles, 500 monthly email sends, and 150 SMS/MMS credits. This is a small operational allowance for a serious store.
- Omnisend: 500 emails per month to up to 250 unique contacts.
- Moosend: a 30-day trial with no credit card, listing unlimited campaigns and sends for up to 1,000 contacts during the trial.
- Constant Contact and Drip: do not treat them as permanent free-plan leaders; check the current trial or paid offer.
- HubSpot: free tools exist, but the marketing features, contact definitions, and send limits must be checked separately from the free CRM headline.
Also check whether the service keeps its branding in the footer, limits seats, requires manual approval, restricts support, limits audiences or lists, or automatically stops sending when the cap is reached.

Campaign editors: what to evaluate
A large template library does not prove that an editor is good. The useful test is whether a person can produce a clean, accessible, responsive email quickly and make changes without fighting the interface.
Look for a drag-and-drop editor, plain-text mode, HTML access, reusable blocks, global brand styles, mobile preview, inbox preview, image hosting and compression, dynamic content, product blocks, countdowns, custom fonts, conditional visibility, link checking, accessibility controls, undo, and version history. Check how the email behaves in Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail, and Yahoo, including dark mode.
For a WordPress site, test the complete path rather than simply checking whether a plugin exists: form submission, consent checkbox, custom-field mapping, double opt-in, welcome automation, unsubscribe synchronization, and deletion. For WooCommerce, Shopify, or BigCommerce, test product views, cart events, purchases, refunds, and customer suppression.
Automation and segmentation: the workflow that separates tools
Ask each finalist to handle the same workflow:
- A visitor submits a form.
- The service sends an immediate welcome email.
- It waits two days.
- It branches on whether the subscriber clicked.
- It adds a tag or custom field.
- It sends a different follow-up.
- A purchase removes the subscriber from the sequence.
- A separate trigger allows an appropriate re-entry journey.
- A time-zone or send-time condition changes delivery.
- An unsubscribe, bounce, or failed integration is visible in the history and does not trigger an inappropriate follow-up.
Then compare trigger types, event tracking, branching logic, wait steps, goals, exit conditions, re-entry rules, automation maps, lead scoring, predictive sending, ecommerce events, webhooks, API triggers, SMS or WhatsApp branches, error handling, and debugging history.

Segmentation also varies dramatically. A basic tag filter is not equivalent to event-based segments, purchase-based segments, engagement segments, predictive segments, conditional content, product recommendations, preference centers, suppression segments, and multiple-brand audiences. Confirm whether custom fields map correctly from your form, store, CRM, or payment tool.

The relevant question is not how many integrations a provider advertises. It is whether the connection sends the data your automation needs and keeps consent status synchronized.
- WordPress: check forms, embedded blocks, double opt-in, custom fields, and unsubscribe synchronization.
- WooCommerce and Shopify: check product-view, cart, purchase, refund, and customer-value events. Omnisend, Klaviyo, Drip, Brevo, and ActiveCampaign are potential fits, but verify the exact connector and required tier.
- BigCommerce: check product catalog, order, customer, and cart events rather than assuming Shopify-level functionality.
- Stripe and PayPal: verify whether payments create or update a contact, trigger a purchase automation, and preserve consent boundaries.
- Zapier and Make: useful for connecting tools, but confirm whether the action is real-time, whether custom fields map, and whether task volume adds cost.
- Salesforce, HubSpot CRM, and Pipedrive: check ownership, lifecycle stages, activity history, and whether unsubscribes sync back to the CRM.
- Google Analytics and Meta: verify tracking parameters, conversion events, and attribution windows.
- Webinar, course, membership, and form tools: check registration, attendance, completion, purchase, and cancellation events.
Native integration is generally easier to maintain than a third-party bridge, but a native logo alone is not enough. Test real-time versus scheduled sync, deletion behavior, duplicate handling, field mapping, and the plan required to activate the connection.
Deliverability: controls matter more than marketing claims
No email platform can guarantee inbox placement. Results depend on your sending domain and IP reputation, authentication, list quality, complaint rate, content, consistency, warm-up, volume, and recipient engagement. A small test to Gmail, Outlook, and Yahoo cannot establish that one provider has a universal 98% deliverability rate.

Gmail classifies senders approaching 5,000 messages in 24 hours to personal Gmail accounts as bulk senders. Its requirements include SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and one-click unsubscribe for marketing messages; senders should keep user-reported spam rates below 0.3%. Gmail began ramping up enforcement on noncompliant traffic in November 2025. See Gmail’s sender FAQ and sender guidelines.
Yahoo likewise emphasizes authentication, a functioning list-unsubscribe mechanism for bulk senders, visible unsubscribe options, and a spam rate below 0.3%. It recommends separating bulk marketing streams from transactional or user mail. See Yahoo’s sender best practices.
A footer unsubscribe link is not the same as one-click unsubscribe. RFC 8058 describes the List-Unsubscribe and List-Unsubscribe-Post headers and requires a valid DKIM signature covering those headers. When comparing services, inspect whether those headers are present and whether the service maintains suppression lists after an opt-out.
How to evaluate a provider fairly
A reproducible comparison would use one fresh account per provider, the same authenticated test subdomain, the same permission-based test list, identical copy, images, links, sender identity, form fields, welcome automation, and relevant ecommerce event. It would send to Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, and Apple Mail seed addresses during a documented period, record timestamps, capture authentication results, and publish screenshots or exported results.
That type of test can report whether setup was easy, whether messages arrived, whether they appeared in inbox, promotions, or spam during the test, whether unsubscribe headers were present, and whether bounces and complaints were visible. It cannot turn a handful of test messages into a platform-wide deliverability benchmark.
Transactional email is a separate buying decision
Marketing newsletters and transactional messages have different purposes and should often use separate streams. Newsletters promote content or products. Transactional messages include password resets, receipts, order confirmations, account alerts, and API-triggered notifications.
Brevo explicitly includes transactional email and SMS on its free plan. Moosend offers transactional email through SMTP or API as an add-on or higher-level configuration. ActiveCampaign lists transactional email as an add-on. Other services may require a separate product, an API provider, or an SMTP relay.

Analytics you can trust in 2026
Most dashboards report delivered messages, bounces, unsubscribes, complaints, opens, clicks, and sometimes revenue. Ecommerce and CRM platforms may add automation-level performance, segment performance, assisted conversions, lead progression, and customer-value reporting.
Do not rank services by open rate alone. Apple Mail Privacy Protection, Gmail image caching, bot clicks, security scanners, and provider-specific tracking affect opens and clicks. Open data can still be directional, but engaged-recipient trends, unique clicks, conversion events, revenue, unsubscribes, bounces, and complaints are usually more useful for decisions.
When comparing revenue, document the attribution window, last-click or multi-touch method, assisted-conversion rules, currency, refunds, coupon treatment, and whether the platform is counting a sale that would have happened anyway. Two dashboards can report different revenue from the same campaign without either being technically broken.
Recommended Free Tools
Consent, unsubscribe, and legal safeguards
Software tools help you follow rules; they do not make a campaign legally compliant automatically. Your obligations depend on the message, sender, recipient, consent record, and geography.
For US commercial email, the FTC’s CAN-SPAM guide describes accurate header information, nondeceptive subject lines, identification of commercial messages, a valid physical postal address, an opt-out mechanism, prompt handling of opt-outs, and oversight of vendors. The FTC says opt-out requests must be honored within 10 business days.
For UK individual subscribers, PECR generally requires consent before unsolicited electronic-mail marketing, subject to limited exceptions such as the soft opt-in. The consent must be specific, informed, affirmative, and not based on silence or a pre-ticked box. Review the ICO email-marketing guidance and its PECR consent guidance.
Keep the source and date of consent, avoid purchased or scraped lists, use a clear preference center where appropriate, suppress unsubscribed and bounced addresses, and make sure an imported suppression list is not accidentally overwritten during migration.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsSupport and migration
Support is part of the cost. Check whether the provider offers email, live chat, phone support, 24/7 availability, business-hours coverage, onboarding, agency accounts, multiple-client management, and API access. A low monthly price can be expensive if a broken automation interrupts sales and no one can help.
Migration claims also need precision. Free migration may mean contacts only, while forms, templates, automation maps, historical reports, consent dates, and integration credentials require manual work. Kit offers free migration for paid creators, and ActiveCampaign advertises migration support, but confirm the documented scope before signing up.
Migration checklist
- Export active subscribers and their consent source and date.
- Export unsubscribes, suppression lists, cleaned addresses, and bounce records.
- Preserve tags, custom fields, segments, purchase history, and lifecycle stages.
- Save forms, landing pages, templates, automation maps, goals, exit conditions, and re-entry rules.
- Document integration credentials, webhooks, API calls, tracking parameters, and ecommerce events.
- Authenticate the new sending domain before the first campaign.
- Rebuild and test forms, confirmation pages, welcome sequences, purchase exits, and unsubscribe behavior.
- Do not send immediately to every old contact. Start with recent, engaged recipients and monitor bounces and complaints.
- Prevent duplicate welcome emails during the transition.
- Run a controlled parallel test and export any historical reports the old platform permits.
- Cancel the old service only after the new forms, automations, integrations, suppressions, and reporting have been verified.
Which service should you choose?
- If you send occasional newsletters: start with Brevo because its pricing is tied more closely to volume, or MailerLite if you want a simple editor.
- If your email list is the product: compare beehiiv and Kit. Choose beehiiv for publication growth, referrals, and media monetization; choose Kit for creator products and sequences.
- If you run Shopify: compare Klaviyo and Omnisend using product events, cart recovery, SMS, active or billable profiles, and revenue attribution.
- If you run WooCommerce: compare Omnisend, Klaviyo, Drip, and Brevo after testing the exact store events and custom-field mapping.
- If sales needs to see every lead interaction: choose HubSpot if the CRM should be the center; choose ActiveCampaign if sophisticated automation is the priority.
- If you need password resets and receipts: choose a service with native, API, or SMTP transactional support, such as Brevo, or pair your marketing tool with a dedicated transactional provider.
- If you have outgrown Mailchimp: move to MailerLite or Brevo for simpler lower-cost marketing, ActiveCampaign for automation, HubSpot for CRM, or Klaviyo and Omnisend for ecommerce.
- If you have outgrown Klaviyo: compare Omnisend for a more accessible store platform, Drip for ecommerce CRM, and Brevo for lower-cost multichannel sending. The best alternative depends on whether cost, data depth, or workflow simplicity is the problem.
- If you have outgrown ActiveCampaign: compare HubSpot when sales, service, permissions, and reporting need one system; choose Brevo or MailerLite if the actual need is only simpler newsletters.
- If phone support matters most: Constant Contact deserves a close look.
- If you manage multiple clients: evaluate agency or multi-account support, permissions, separate sending domains, billing separation, and exportability before comparing monthly prices.
- If you send at high volume: compare volume pricing, one-day caps, dedicated-IP availability, authentication support, suppression handling, and realistic warm-up requirements.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Brevo really free for 100,000 contacts?
Brevo’s free plan allows up to 100,000 stored contacts, but it limits sending to 300 emails per day. That is not the same as unlimited free email. Starter begins at $9 per month and Standard at $18 per month according to Brevo’s current plan documentation.
Which is better for a small business: MailerLite or Brevo?
Choose MailerLite for a cleaner newsletter, form, landing-page, and basic automation experience. Choose Brevo if you send irregularly, need transactional email, or want email, SMS, WhatsApp, and CRM features with pricing that is more closely tied to sending volume.
Can an email marketing service guarantee inbox placement?
No. Inbox placement depends on your domain and IP reputation, authentication, list quality, complaint rate, content, sending consistency, volume, and recipient engagement. A small seed test can evaluate setup and controls, but it cannot establish a universal provider ranking.
What is the cheapest email marketing service?
There is no universal cheapest option. Brevo may be less expensive for a large list with occasional sends, while MailerLite, Kit, beehiiv, or Mailchimp may be free within their specific audience and sending limits. Ecommerce, SMS, transactional email, seats, annual billing, and add-ons can change the answer.
Are newsletter platforms suitable for order confirmations and password resets?
Not automatically. Transactional email requires appropriate API or SMTP support, suppression handling, rate limits, event logs, and separate stream management. Brevo explicitly includes transactional email; Moosend and ActiveCampaign offer transactional options through additional configurations or add-ons. Verify the exact plan before relying on any service for operational mail.
Should I use Klaviyo or Omnisend for Shopify?
Klaviyo is usually the stronger fit when advanced event data, predictive analytics, detailed segmentation, and revenue reporting justify the cost. Omnisend is attractive when you want an easier store-focused workflow with email, SMS, and push. Compare active or billable profile rules and the precise SMS tier required for your account.
Is Kit or beehiiv better for a paid newsletter?
beehiiv is more publication-oriented, with referrals, recommendations, ad opportunities, publication tools, and paid subscriptions. Kit is more creator-oriented, with sequences, forms, recommendations, digital products, and creator monetization. Choose based on whether your main business is a media publication or a creator-led product and audience funnel.
What should I migrate when changing email platforms?
Export active subscribers, unsubscribes, suppression and bounce records, consent source and date, tags, custom fields, segments, forms, landing pages, templates, automation maps, integration credentials, and historical reports where available. Authenticate the new domain and test forms, automations, purchase events, and unsubscribe handling before ending the old account.
The Bottom Line
Pick the platform that matches your business model, not the one with the most impressive feature list. Start with MailerLite for straightforward newsletters, Brevo for low-cost volume and transactional email, Constant Contact when support and events matter, Klaviyo, Omnisend, or Drip for ecommerce, HubSpot or ActiveCampaign for CRM and automation, and Kit or beehiiv for creators and publications. Before subscribing, price the same contact count, send volume, SMS usage, seats, automation tier, and add-ons across your finalists. Then authenticate your domain, preserve consent and suppression data, and test the integrations and unsubscribe path before sending at scale.
