Zoho POS is retail point-of-sale software, not a standardized, all-in-one “Zoho POS machine” bundle. In the U.S., its plans range from free to $60 per location per month with annual billing, but a working checkout may also need a computer or tablet, peripherals, a payment terminal, processing, and setup.

Zoho is worth considering if you want inventory and back-office tools, especially if you already use Zoho products and can source and test compatible hardware. If you want one vendor to supply a ready-to-use terminal, payments, and support, compare turnkey systems before choosing on subscription price alone. Prices below are U.S. prices listed as of August 16, 2026; confirm current terms before buying.

Is Zoho POS a machine or software?

Zoho POS is a cloud-based retail point-of-sale platform for checkout, inventory, purchasing, customer records, returns, reporting, and connected sales channels. It includes billing apps for Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS. That app runs on a device you provide or source separately.

It helps to separate four things buyers often mean by “POS machine”:

Whether you're working indoors or outdoors, you can work without interruption, increasing your work flexibility. The N6602 scan engine scans a variety of barcode formats quickly and accurately.
  • POS software: Zoho POS handles sales and retail workflows.
  • Billing device: A computer, tablet, or phone runs the app.
  • Payment terminal: A separate reader or terminal accepts card or contactless payments; its availability and integration depend on the provider, device, and region.
  • Complete POS bundle: A coordinated package of software, hardware, processing, and support.

Zoho’s U.S. materials describe software and support for retail peripherals, not a universally standardized U.S. countertop bundle with one published machine price. In practice, expect to build a checkout around compatible third-party equipment. Zoho’s terms put responsibility for purchasing, configuring, maintaining, and verifying third-party hardware compatibility on the customer.

Zoho POS pricing in the U.S.

Prices are per location per month. Annual-billing prices are paid yearly; local taxes may apply. Paid plans include unlimited POS transactions, while the Free plan is capped at 50 per month.

Plan Annual billing (monthly equivalent) Month-to-month Registers Users Notable limits or features
Free $0 $0 1 1 50 POS transactions/month; 50 marketplace orders
Standard $15 $20 1 3 Unlimited POS transactions; offline billing; serial and batch tracking; barcode generation
Professional $30 $40 3 10 Session and cash tracking; transaction-level offers; backorders and drop shipments
Premium $60 $75 5 15 Advanced promotions, loyalty features, price management, custom modules and automation options

Other plan limits apply. For example, the Free plan includes 20 purchase orders and bills; Standard includes 500, Professional 2,500, and Premium 5,000. Marketplace order allowances are 50, 500, 5,000, and 10,000 respectively. Shopify store connections rise from one on Free, Standard, and Professional to five on Premium (Professional lists two). Check the current U.S. pricing page and feature comparison for the complete limits. Some Premium capabilities are marked early access, so verify availability before making them part of a production plan.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Free plan can be a low-risk way to explore the software, but it is not a free checkout counter: equipment, payment acceptance, and any implementation work are separate. Its 50-sale monthly limit can also be reached quickly by a shop with regular foot traffic. Zoho offers a 15-day trial with Premium functionality and no credit card required; after the trial, the account moves to Free unless upgraded.

Possible add-on charges

Zoho’s pricing display lists additional users, registers, and storage locations at $5, $10, and $10 respectively, with annual and monthly amounts shown together. Because the presentation can be easy to misread, confirm the billing period and checkout total with Zoho before subscribing. Add-ons can also change which plan is cheapest for your actual headcount and register count.

What does a Zoho POS setup really cost?

Use this as a first-year budgeting formula:

First-year cost = software subscription + checkout hardware + payment terminal + processing fees + add-ons + setup/training + taxes.

Software-only annual costs at the listed annual rates are:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Standard: $15 × 12 = $180 per location per year.
  • Professional: $30 × 12 = $360 per location per year.
  • Premium: $60 × 12 = $720 per location per year.

These figures exclude equipment, payment processing, taxes, and add-ons. Zoho does not publish one universal U.S. price for a complete hardware bundle, so a realistic total depends on what you already own, what devices are compatible, and how you take payments. Budget separately for a billing device, receipt printer, barcode scanner, cash drawer, optional customer display or scale, mounts and cables, and a payment terminal if needed.

Payment processing is a separate decision

Do not treat the Zoho POS subscription as including card processing. Zoho Payments’ U.S. pricing page lists domestic cards at 2.90% + $0.30 per transaction, international cards at an additional 1.5% over the domestic card fee, ACH direct debit at 0.80% capped at $5, and a $15 dispute fee. Those are Zoho Payments rates, not a universal rate for every processor or every Zoho POS setup. Merchant approval, supported hardware, integration, and actual pricing may vary. Review the current Zoho Payments terms and compare them with the processor available for your chosen terminal.

Compare card-present and online rates, deposit timing, refunds, dispute costs, supported terminals, contract length, and cancellation terms. Also determine whether a payment integration authorizes and records a transaction in the POS, or whether staff must reconcile it manually. A terminal mentioned on a global Zoho page is not automatically available to U.S. merchants.

Setup and migration

Moving from spreadsheets or another POS can involve cleaning product data, normalizing SKUs, importing inventory and vendors, configuring taxes and permissions, setting up printers, mapping payments, and training staff. Zoho offers a Jumpstart service covering implementation tasks such as app installation, inventory setup, printer configuration, payment mapping, reports, and integrations. The reviewed materials do not give a single public U.S. implementation price; request a quote based on your scope.

What hardware works with Zoho POS?

Zoho describes support for retail devices such as receipt printers, barcode scanners, weighing scales, pole displays, cash drawers, and payment terminals. That category-level statement does not guarantee that every model works with every app and operating system. Compatibility can depend on the precise device, connection, driver, firmware, region, and payment integration.

Before buying equipment, get the exact model and configuration confirmed and test it in your store workflow. Ask:

  1. Is the billing app available for the operating system on the device you plan to use?
  2. Does the printer connect and print the required receipt format using a supported driver?
  3. Does the scanner send barcodes in the expected format?
  4. Does the cash drawer open reliably, and is it connected through the printer or another supported interface?
  5. Is the payment terminal integrated with the U.S. Zoho POS setup, or will it operate separately?
  6. What can still be done during an internet outage, and what requires reconnection?
  7. Do you need a customer-facing display, a weighing scale, or backup equipment?
  8. Who supports a problem caused by a device, driver, firmware, or processor?

Zoho’s terms make compatibility and ongoing maintenance of third-party hardware the customer’s responsibility. Keep that support boundary in mind if you would rather call one vendor for the entire checkout stack.

Offline billing is not the same as fully offline payments

Offline billing is listed for paid plans. That does not establish that card authorization, all cloud features, multi-location views, or reporting continue uninterrupted without internet access. Test which transactions can be recorded offline, how they sync after reconnection, how conflicts or duplicates are handled, and whether card payments still require a connection. Maintain a manual fallback for a serious outage.

What Zoho POS does

The product’s value is broader than ringing up a sale. Documented capabilities include:

  • Checkout and sales: Billing, invoicing, returns, refunds, cancellations, exchanges, and discounts; higher plans add cash-session controls and more promotion tools.
  • Inventory and purchasing: Catalog and stock workflows, purchase orders, vendor management, and higher-tier serial, batch, backorder, and drop-shipment capabilities.
  • Customers and reporting: Customer records, dashboards, sales reports, custom reports and views on eligible plans, and loyalty features listed for Premium.
  • Locations and staff: Multi-location management, register and user allowances by plan, and permission controls.
  • Sales channels and integrations: Connections involving Zoho Books, Zoho Commerce, Shopify, shipping services, Twilio, payment providers, and the Zoho POS API. Confirm that the particular integration and region support your workflow.
  • Customization and automation: Higher plans list features such as custom modules, buttons, webhooks, custom functions, and schedulers; some features may be early access.

These are product-documented capabilities, not a substitute for checking that your specific catalog, tax setup, payment flow, and integrations behave as required.

Zoho POS reviews: what buyers can verify

Independent review coverage is thinner than for long-established U.S. POS names. The available G2 listing does not establish a large review base or a dependable consensus rating. GetApp provides directory-style product, pricing, feature, and alternative information, but a directory listing is not the same as extensive independently verified hands-on feedback.

That makes a precise star rating or claim about what “users” generally think misleading without current, attributable evidence. The safer assessment is to separate what Zoho documents—plans, apps, integrations, offline billing, and workflows—from what you still need to verify in your own environment. Treat anecdotes as anecdotes, not proof that a system will work with your equipment or that support will resolve a specific issue.

Use the trial to assess the risks that matter in daily operations: speed at checkout, receipt formatting, scanner and drawer behavior, refunds and exchanges, inventory accuracy, payment settlement, ease of training, and the quality of help when a setup problem occurs.

Pros and cons

Potential advantages Trade-offs and risks
Permanent Free plan and comparatively low annual software prices Free does not include a complete hardware setup or processing; the transaction cap can be restrictive
Retail back-office functions for inventory, purchasing, vendors, customers, and reporting More setup and compatibility work than a tightly bundled terminal system
Multiple locations and more registers on higher plans Additional users, registers, or storage locations can change total subscription cost
Paid-plan offline billing and integrations with the Zoho ecosystem Offline billing does not guarantee offline payment authorization or full cloud functionality
API and automation options for businesses with technical needs Some advanced features are marked early access; verify availability and support
15-day Premium-feature trial without a credit card Independent review evidence is limited compared with major U.S. POS brands

Zoho POS compared with alternatives

Choose comparisons based on the full checkout and operating model, not just monthly software cost.

System Consider it if… What to compare
Square You want a familiar, integrated hardware-and-payments ecosystem for a small merchant. Current hardware, processing, software tiers, offline behavior, and how much inventory depth your shop needs. Confirm current fees directly with Square.
Shopify POS Your store is ecommerce-first and you want online and in-person selling tied to Shopify. Plan and POS Pro eligibility, hardware, processing rates, and whether its commerce-centered workflow suits your back office. Pricing and offer context can change.
Clover You want dedicated terminals and a broad payments ecosystem. Who sells and processes the system, equipment terms, processing rates, contract length, support, and cancellation conditions.
Lightspeed Retail You need a retail-focused system for inventory-intensive or multi-location operations. Total software and onboarding cost, hardware model, integrations, support, and whether its capabilities justify the expense.

These are fit comparisons, not claims that one platform is universally better or cheaper. Get a current quote and verify your required workflows with each provider.

Who is Zoho POS a good fit for?

  • Existing Zoho customer: A sensible candidate if Books, Commerce, or other Zoho tools are already part of your operations and the integrations meet your needs.
  • Small, inventory-led retailer: Worth a trial if you want purchasing, vendors, stock tracking, and reporting rather than checkout alone—and can handle hardware selection.
  • Multi-counter or multi-location business: Compare the register, user, and location limits on the plan against your actual footprint, including add-on costs.
  • Solo or very small shop: Free may help test the system, but check whether 50 monthly POS transactions and one user are enough. Standard removes the POS transaction cap.
  • Turnkey-hardware buyer: Be cautious if you expect Zoho to supply a single ready-to-use U.S. terminal with guaranteed compatibility and one support contact for payments and equipment.
  • Merchant with unusual or legacy peripherals: Do not commit until the exact model and workflow have been confirmed and tested.

How to test Zoho POS before paying

  1. Create a sample catalog and import real or anonymized inventory.
  2. Connect the exact computer or tablet and receipt printer you plan to use.
  3. Scan real barcodes and check product matching, price, and tax.
  4. Complete a cash sale; confirm receipt output and cash-drawer behavior.
  5. Run a card transaction with the intended payment provider and terminal; verify settlement and refunds.
  6. Test returns, exchanges, discounts, and any split-payment workflow you require.
  7. Disconnect the internet and test offline billing; reconnect and inspect synchronization and inventory.
  8. Run end-of-day reports and reconcile cash and payments.
  9. Check staff logins, permissions, and register workflows.
  10. Test Shopify or other essential integrations, including what happens when an item changes in one system.
  11. Ask Zoho or an implementation partner to confirm exact hardware compatibility in writing.

A demo can show the interface; it cannot confirm that your particular printer, terminal, catalog, and store routine will work together.
